I know I shouldn't, but there's something about the nexus that makes me go meh..dunno why but there is.
I'd vote note.
-
Maybe the strange on screen buttons, that's definitely what I don't like about it
~Sent from my Galaxy S II~ -
The Galaxy Note is nice enough, but I can't shake this mental image when I think about it:
trigger happy tv, giant phone - YouTube
It seems almost comically oversized for a phone. -
That's why it's a "phablet"
~Sent from my Galaxy S II~ -
I think it's a good size actually - when I hold it up to my head, the earpiece by my ear, the mic is right by my mouth.
Plus I never call people anyway. -
Who still use the "call" function on their smartphone anyway?
I always use HeyTell when I am too lazy to text. -
I'm sure it's a good design functionally, it just looks odd to me
-
Can't. Work. Out. If. Sarcastic. Or. Not.

Megacharge Custom User Title
People have been ripping on the Note's size a lot, but I would love to have the note, TBH, to have that screen and stylus, I'd gladly give up my SGSII without a second thought.
-
I'm guessing this will be of some interest to some people:
-
I think he's serious. I might make a phone call once a day if that.

Just played with the RAZR a little today... that is one sharp phone (pun intended).
Can't believe how light and thin it is... and the screen looks nice to my unprofessional eye (I also have a preference for the i4's Retina Display). The metallic Motorola piece near the ear speaker is a bit gaudy but everything else looks really good. Too bad it's only on VZW. -
So.. about to pull the trigger on the Galaxy Nexus for $703 shipped..... what do you guys think? Bad decision?
-
I would also choose the Nexus. It just looks more "futuristic" than the Note in this case. The Note looks more businessman-ish.
I think you made a good choice, because the Nexus will get loads of community support. -
I disagree.
TearTaker has imported a Note for $700 - it's more phone for the same money. -
Of course! But for avg day to day usage, 5.3" is a bit overkill. 4.65" is already imensely big, but 5.3" for a phone is too much.
As I said, the Note is targeted for businessmen
-
I would say they're both targeted towards Android power-users, be that businesspeople, enthusiasts or whoever.
The only advantage the Nexus has IMO is the more pocketable size. -
That's true.
And the Nexus is also "pure android". I am willing to bet when Samsung releases ICS for GSII and alike, it'll have a BUNCH of modifications. Hopefully good ones, because I love what they did with TW4.
EDIT
I guess the GSII DOES have a chance versus the Nexus?
Rooted, stock 2.3.4, no OC. -
One feature I also really like on the galaxy nexus is the notification light. Still trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on the phone

You can get an unlocked RAZR for HSPA/GSM networks on Amazon right now. So it's not just Verizon. Verizon is the only one subsidizing it in the US ATM.
More futuristic doesn't negate the fact that the GSII still walks all over it in graphics benchmarks... and that phone is old in comparison. Not to mention the 5MP camera, and no SD card slot. I really wanted the Nexus, but the Note will be it for me. -
They'll both have CM9 support, so I don't think the software should be a deciding factor.
-
For the international yes, but some of the US variants take longer to get things. (Mine still has no CM7 but the AT&T one does T_T)
Sent from my Galaxy S II -
There is no US version of the Note and every variant of the Nexus will definitely be supported.
Not that support for US variants matters if he's talking about importing. -
Sorry I shouldve quoted Pistachios post too
I was just comparing the SGSII to the Nexus for CM9.
I wonder if there will be a US variant. Maybe in a year
since they take so long to get stuff here lol
-
Galaxy Nexus ordered.
-
The light swung it?
-
Not just the light... I just really like the hardware design, and the somewhat lacking GPU doesn't really bother me since the only game I play on my phone is doodle jump lol

That's why we have Android. Choice in hardware.
Congratulations on your purchase!
You have to let us know what you think of it when you get it!
-
Congrats!
If there's one thing I don't like about my phone, it's the lack of notification light.
-
Why doesn't Samsung include notification lights on all of their phones? Just seems like a weird thing to leave off.
-
That's one of the reasons why I didn't get Droid Charge and decided to wait out for Galaxy Nexus instead. I wouldn't like having to turn on the screen to just see what's up.
-
Most of the Samsung phones without a notification light have something you can get called "BLN", which uses the home/menu/back/seach button's lights as notification lights (Turns them on and/or flashes them like a normal notification light would).
Though having both a phone with and without, I do prefer having a regular notification light. -
A question someone I know posed recently, made all the more pertinent by this story, which I find myself unable to answer - what's the difference between Chrome OS and Android ( other than the fact one is designed for touchscreens and the other is not)?
Or, to phrase it as he did, what's the point of Chrome OS when Google has Android?
On a completely different note, this article[/size] 'clicked' with me - if Apple find a way of getting Siri into a TV, they could actually change things in some sort of significant way.
I know that you get a similar sort of control via your X-Box if you're using Kinnect but Siri is that much more natural. -
hmm, some insights into this anyone?:
I still haven't returned my phone yet. Why? I suspect the reboots could be somehow due to software. My phone's random rebooted twice within the past hour but it's seemingly random. The reboots themselves are odd too:
On the OG droid, when I got random reboots the whole phone would reboot, i'd see the motorola logo and the splash screen of whatever ROM I was running at the time, before returning to the lock screen.
On the stratosphere, the screen lights up with whatever's open, then goes black. Then it jumps straight to the lock screen with media scanner running and the universal symbol for no showing up where signal strength and data type would be in the notification bar: No boot animations or sounds, just that. upon unlocking it, all the apps are closed.
It's some sort of soft reboot I guess. Think resetting the phone and starting fresh would fix it? I just don't want to send it in when there's an easy fix. -
I've been trying to decide which phone to get, and I've sort of stuck between the HTC Incredible 2 and the Droid X2. I'm going to be doing a lot of media stuff and will need some decent battery life(probably at least a day's worth). The Droid X2 is only 0.01 on Amazon Wireless right now and includes a 16GB microsd(which I'll need for music): AmazonWireless: HTC DROID INCREDIBLE 2 Android Phone (Verizon Wireless)
The HTC Incredible 2 is $30 on Amazon Wireless with an 8GB microsd
I'm interested in running Cyanogen Mod, and I know currently the Droid X2 doesn't have it, but I still can't decide. Any recommendations? -

I would swap it just to make sure. It's hard for software to do what you're describing. I would suggest you try to ODIN your phone to a stock software image, just to make sure if you don't want to exchange it.
By media, do you mean videos and music or just music? -
Lots of music and some video.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
If you plan on not having to convert video, go with a Samsung device. Otherwise, the X2 is a good device...
If you plan on immediately going the CyanogenMod route, go with the Droid Charge. CM7 on that device FLIES. Plus it's got an unlocked bootloader so you can swap kernels/radios/ROMs on the fly, and it's got the Wolfson audio which shines under CM7.
All of the HTC/Motorola devices on Verizon have locked bootloaders. -
Galaxy nexus will be here on Friday
. Can't wait
-
Arrrggghh I'm gonna burn your house down!!!

I'm trying to get my old Intercept ready to give to my girlfriend who's switching to Virgin Mobile. It's a piece of crap, but free is better than over $100 for any of the better Android phones they offer. But it won't boot...the progress bar comes up and finishes and then the Samsung logo appears, which usually lasts for a minute before Android comes up. But it just stays at the Samsung logo, and after a couple minutes, the phone starts vibrating every 10 seconds or so.
I still have a custom recovery installed, which I can boot into, but it doesn't seem to do any good. I've wiped cache, data and dalvik-cache, and re-installed both the stock VM FroYo ROM and the custom ROM I was using, but it still won't boot. I've left the thing going for 20 minutes and it just stays on the Samsung logo and vibrating every few seconds. -
Damn! 16GB SD Card for only $13 Free Shipping!
SanDisk 16GB MicroSD Card Hi-Speed Class 4 -
Have you tried re-flashing through ODIN? With a .PIT file.
-
Nice, just got two
Anyway, I ended up reformatting system, cache, data, dalvik-cache and everything else and re-flashing the stock VM ROM. It works now and my girlfriend just activated it. She likes it so far, it's her first Android phone. -
Sweet!
And thats cool, gotta start somewhere!
-
I'm getting RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome, yes it's a real medical condition) waiting for the Nexus.
-

Just don't sit and wait for so long you get DVT's or something...
Gotta love VZW.

Some cool apps I thought I'd share with you guys...

^AirDroid. You can start the server on your device and read/respond to SMS, check your call logs, view your contacts/photos/music/files over WiFi. All with an AWESOME web interface.

^Dice Player. If you've ever just wanted to play a video on your device without having to sit and wait for it to convert... try this. It has literally played everything I've thrown at it. That includes MKV's with AC3/DTS audio. And it's playing this at 720p without skipping a frame, on a single core Hummingbird device. It's really all I was looking for, since CM7 doesn't natively support anything but MP4/M4V. -
AirDroid is seriously awesome, I'd +rep you, but I can't!
Thanks for the input!
