Droid charge and htc merge immediately come to mind
-
I think you are the only one disappointed that the merge didn't launch
-
What's a Merge?
-
Nope, not bitter, not bitter at all.
/sarcasm
There's many who were dissappointed with how the launch was bungled. For those of us who were waiting for it, to see things go down the way they did was beyond infuriating.
This:
If the launch wen't according to plan, it would have finally provided Verizon customer's a high end, proper, competitior to the Motorola Droid line.
HTC quality, a dev community that would pretty much appear overnight (it IS an HTC after all) and a keyboard that was only surpassed by the Touch Pro 2...one couldn't have created a handset with more potential if they tried.
But things didn't go according to plan. Release dates were missed, messaging to the public from both HTC and Verizon was bungled over and over, a unbranded device was shown off at trade show after trade show, full page ads were placed in major newspapers and magazines across the country...all for a phone that no one could buy.
Months went on and then it was shown off again, this time announced that it would be on regional carriers like Alltel and US Cellular/CSpire in Spring of 2011...remember that blogs showed proof of its existence in a near final state for Verizon in October 2010. Still no hint from Verizon beyond the addition of a somewhat hidden support section for it. Many Merge enthusiasts on Verizon stood strong, we wanted this phone and were willing to wait.
Finally in May of 2011, Verizon halfheartedly decides to release the Merge to indirect stores: HTC Merge on Verizon today, but Big Red won't actually be selling it | Android Central
Of course, their messaging was wrong AGAIN. They cocked up by stating that large big box stores (specifically Best Buy) would carry Merge.
Cue everyone trying to figure out where the hell the phone is: Best Buy replied to my post on their wall: Bad news Verizon users: - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com
Turns out, only select indirect locations would be picking up the phone and Best Buy/Verizon screwed up. Big time. By this time, enthusiasts were pretty much ready to wring their hands of Merge: A updated Droid 3 with a proper keyboard was around the corner, hints of Stratosphere's existence began to surface shortly there after... and all that HTC community goodness that would have been assured by a proper launch was erased. Sure enough, while the regional version of the Merge has a small dev community, the one on Verizon is nonexistant.
That and Verizon's status on providing OTA updates to their version of the Merge is highly questionable: Both the Security update and Gingerbread update appear to not be on the Verizon version.
No support from both the community and Verizon. Specs that are now solidly mid-range at best. Ambitious pricing from the indirect stores who are carrying it. The 3 nails in the Merge's coffin.
It still burns me up to this very day. Seriously. Although Verizon's tried to make amends with the Stratosphere, I and many others still wanted the Merge.
That's one reason why, compared to the Merge launch debacle, I feel you guys are on a cakewalk.
I do know it's frustrating waiting, but at least you're looking at a few more days possibly instead of months.
The Droid Charge's launch got delayed because of a LTE outage that happened a few days before launch. Guess what happened a few days before one of the Nexus' rumored launch dates?
-
I won't believe it until I have the phone in my hands. December 15th is just as real as the 9th was.
-
True, true. Hopefully it'll be in your hands soon. If I were you, I'd have tried to go to Best Buy and snag one when they were a bit confused about the release date.
-
-
Happier bunny:
-
I'll believe it when I can walk into a store and walk out with a GNex. I refuse to bite on any more rumors.
-
I'm taking this with a huge grain of salt.
-
Woohoo, CM7 being developed for my phone
just a few bugs that need to be fixed before fully usable.

Coolest. App. Ever.
I've confirmed it's accurate with a standalone pulse meter. To just use the camera for a pulse is something out of science fiction. If only they'd slap'd a medical tricorder UI on it, it would have been the epitome of win. -
I have a Galaxy Nexus on hold by a sales rep that my father knows, they have them but aren't selling them yet. One of the sales reps already activated his and was using it. Today they told me that I could get it on the 15th, so I'm pretty confident it'll be released then.
-
I just still find it suspicious that Verizon hasn't announced the date already if it's the 15th.
A surprise launch doesn't exactly sound like the best idea for such a high profile phone... -
Been using the free version for a while, just purchased the full version. It's definitely ingenious though the accuracy is only decent. Good enough for most people and on the go but at least I work at a hospital for when I really need accuracy.

Megacharge Custom User Title
It's alright the flash on my phone burns my finger a bit though with that app. -
Just need blood pressure... so I can monitor when I should be posting on an NBR thread or not... heh.
-
Seems weird to me too. I guess if they market it heavily, people will be like "why should I buy a crappy Rezound when the Nexus is so much better?" and it will be harder to push crap phones on unsuspecting customers.
I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow no matter what and I'm going to see what I can get. -
C'mon, the Rezound isn't THAT bad. It's no LG Ally (blecch) or worse...a Citrus *shudders*
I don't even think Verizon themselves know's what the hell they're doing...the left hand not speaking to the other and all that jazz.
Or, maybe Google wanted to be in charge of advertising and marketing, but bungled it. It's possible, highly unlikely, but possible. *shrugs*
Good Luck tomorrow, hopefully you'll get it. This phone's too good to fall between the cracks promotional wise. :/ -
My brother had one for two weeks. I used it and was utterly unimpressed. Lagtastic. Then it got stuck in a reboot loop, subsequently refusing to boot at all, after 14 days and he had to return it. He is now lost to the iCult.
Verizon has released an interactive support simulator for the Nexus today. This date seems a lot more "solid" than the past ones, but I still know better than to get my hopes up. -
Verizon has released an official statement: it will be released in 2011. LOL. I'll be at Costco tomorrow after my exam. I hope they'll have it for sale, if not, I'll just get my usual Costco run.
edit: it's official, tomorrow is the launch date.

hockeymass can rejoice.
And needs 3 Benjis. -
Ahh, shame that it turned out to be a dud. My stepmom's Fascinate turned out to be physically defective, she suffered through it until it self bricked itself (no kidding, I'm still wrapping my head round that, managed to reimage via odin but still..) and promptly washed her hands of Android....
Her iPhone 4S just came yesterday. :/
I suspect that they were waiting for that update to get ready. It got ready earlier today and people who got them early reported getting the OTA notice.
Early on, there was a rumor that the price would be 199. I thought that was unusual and I guess I was right. :/ -
I'll be waking up early. Store opens at 8.
-
/dies
I only need $250. Been holding on to my last NE2 for this momentous occasion.
Happily I work across the street from a VZW store AND around the corner from a BBY. -
Well at least it's the 32GB. $199 might be for the 16GB version (if that comes out state side).
edit: $175 from Let's Talk!! $155 for new customers. Forget Costco, ordering at midnight lol. -
Yes! My life is complete! Galaxy Nexus has been released!
/s -
I'm still wondering why they took out the microSD... what happen to options on Android?
-
You have the option to buy something else that has a microSD slot.
edit: this may be of interest to some people here: Verizon Galaxy Nexus available for just $154.99 from LetsTalk -
My parents offered to pay for my phone as a Christmas gift, so I'm heading to the VZW store at lunch to grab mine.
-
Typing on my VZW Nexus right now.
-
Valid point.
But the Nexus is supposed to be the flagship phone for Google and thus should have all the great features of Android, which to me includes external, expandable storage (something Android proponents jump on the iPhone about).
And this isn't the first time, they've done that... it's partly what stopped me from getting the Nexus S (although now I'm regretting it because my Moto is doo-doo). -
The expandable storage isn't a feature of Android, and I've never touted it as a differentiating feature of the phones, I just use it when iPhone users come at me over the fact that my phone has anemic onboard storage.
-
Liking it a lot so far... -
Finally got through and ordered the Nexus through LetsTalk. Basically saved $105 since I was upgrading a second line ($270-$75 = $195 vs. $300 at VZW store). I can wait til tmw. After all I have an exam in 3 hours and I'll be out the rest of the night.
-
Cool picture.
Now you need to update your signature!
Moto Droid no more. -
Hah I'm upgrading from Moto Droid CM7 too!
-
Really? The way some fans talk about it... it was as if Android invented it.
How are you going to do that when someone comes at you with a 64gb iPhone?
-
Well it's a $400 phone on contract. It should have 64gb!
Some Android fans are stupid, just like some iPhone fans are stupid.
BTW, I have mine. It is indeed as awesome as I expected. It is ginormous. -
Doesn't feel ginormous though. It actually feels smaller in my pocket because it's thinner and lighter than my Droid. One handed use is still reasonable.
But when you use it, the screen size makes such a big difference, especially while typing. Auto correct kicks in a lot less now, because I'm actually hitting the keys I want a lot more. -
Yeah, it's head and shoulders above my Droid. A lot lighter.
-
Congrats! The phone looks great!
-
I'm upgrading from Moto Droid too! Hi-five?
Just ordered from LetsTalk this morning for $174.99. -
Literally everyone that was in the store with me was upgrading from the Droid to the Galaxy Nexus. Every single person that stepped up to the counter (during the half hour I waited) was like "I want to upgrade from the Droid to the Nexus".
-
That's true. Droid was released in Nov 2009, so unless someone upgraded a phone with an eligibility from other family member, it's the only device that can be upgraded to Nexus.
Anyway, happy Nex-mas, everyone! -
Congrats... was it from BB or VZW?
One of you guys should do an unboxing video so we can vicariously feel Christmas-y (or whichever holiday you celebrate) through you.
Is Costco discounting it? -
I got it at VZW. Costco is discounting it like 10 bucks, but I don't think they can process New Every 2 credits.
-
Just got my Galaxy Nexus, loving it so far. I do miss the dedicated settings button, but oh well. The salesman told me that they got the message to start selling them 20 minutes before close yesterday (14th).
-
I was thinking about it, but it wouldn't be a real unboxing video since the guy that technically unboxed it was the Verizon retail rep to activate it.
