anyone try out the new onlive app? (the one where you can actually play the games)
OnLive intros apps for iOS and Android, refreshes its wireless controller, we go hands-on (video) -- Engadget
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.onlive.client -
Ok, now Onlive has peaked my interest. But $50 for controller?
-
Problem is, they refuse to admit it.
I have tried contacting the CEO, MD and Director of Customer Services and I'm getting fed the same load of manure I got from the bottom-rung-of-the-ladder Customer Services people.
The latest story is that there were conflicting data services on my account and T-Mobile have removed the offending items but it's made bugger all difference.
They've also claimed that there's no cap on my account and there's nothing else they can do.
Even though there are other people on T-Mobile's support forum who are getting better speeds with the addition of a particular booster and whose speedtest results look like this, they are 'unable to comment on other customers accounts and information posted on forums'.
I am actually going to have to take this to a regulatory body, it's ridiculous. -

Some games use touch. However, only a small amount of games have this feature. Out of all the games, I only saw two games I want that have touch controls-- Darkriders and DOW 2.Attached Files:

-
Ok i'll PM it in a bit
-
I still have the issue though that if it's a game I want to play I probably already own it, and don't want to pay full price for it AGAIN. Plus using a controller isn't very conducive for use with a handheld device. They need to make a clip or something to hold your device attached to the controller.

Honestly, their completely inept handling of the whole Galaxy Nexus launch is actually pushing me away. If AT&T wasn't awful, I'd switch and get a GSII tomorrow.
-
HAL, just a quick question. Can using LCDDensity to change DPI from 240 to 200-180 hurt the display or the screen?
-
Yeah man, I have been using that for almost a year my screen has like a dozen dead pixels on it.

Hahaha, i know, i love it
-
Also, which reboot method should I choose? Kill, killall or ssdaemon?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
For what? DPI changes? -
Yes. In LCDDensity, it says Apply (Restart), but then I need to choose a Reboot method, and those 3 are the options.
EDIT : Nevermind, installed another program, LCD Resolution, it just says "Always set on boot" and Apply, no reboot methods. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
They really should ban VZW from selling it. And I firmly believe they should be investigated for anti-competitiveness by the FTC on the Google Wallet thing. I would MUCH prefer to use Google Wallet than whatever proprietary crap Verizon is going to stuff in there. I want choice of payment systems.
Verizon has failed HARD with this launch. I mean HARD. Ridiculous.
If you're rooted, use ROM Toolbox. It's free and can make the DPI change persist after rebooting. LCDDensity's settings will go away after a reboot, unless you buy the paid version.
Plus ROM Toolbox has a LOT of other cool features. -
Bonus option.
ಠ_ಠ
(Yes, you need adb.) -
Oh wow, ROM Toolbox is AMAZING! Definetly buying! Yay for Galaxy Nexus boot animation and ICS icons!
I think LCD Resolution is a bit easier
Besides, I don't know how to use adb... -
If I were Lowell McAdam, I would be embarrassed. This phone should be the flagship phone of the network right now, and they're damning it to also-ran status at this point, and for what, to promote the Droid Razr? It's a good phone, but come on. They have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of customers waiting for this damn phone, and they can't even be bothered to announce a firm release date. They can, of course, confirm that they're saddling it with crapware.
Pathetic.
Edit: I was bored, so I sent an email to Lowell McAdam. Let's see what I get back. -
Maybe being on Verizon's resulted in me being browbeaten by their draconian behavior, but I'm not seeing the huge deal beyond it missing what many thought the release date was going to be.
My thoughts, not aimed at anyone in particular just at this whole mess in general:
"bloatware" - Yes it has Backup Assistant and MyVerizon Mobile. That's not necessarily a issue. It makes sense to include Backup Assistant so people who have feature phones don't have to either sit and copy over numbers one by one, or schlep their new phone they ordered online to the Verizon store and deal with waiting to use the CellBrite machine. Many people also use Backup Assistant as a secondary backup service, even with Google.
MyVerizon Mobile is important for customers with data caps, and might be a legal requirement for Verizon if AC is correct.
Now one might ask/whine "well why not include those in the market instead?" Well sure, but people still are going to freak out and go "zomg, where's my numbers" and not even bother looking in the market for backup assistant. It's best from a usability standpoint for it to just be there waiting.
Plus, one can "uninstall" both apps....I'm not quite seeing the issue here, I'm horrible I know.
*NFC: While it would be cool to do Wallet, only the Nexus S on Sprint can officially do it through a partnership of sorts. No international versions can do it as far as I can tell.
Very good read: Editorial: Is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus really a Nexus? You betcha | Android Central
People are making a mountain out of a freakin' mo hill IMO. -
The not having Wallet is just stupid. Nobody should be strongarmed into using their proprietary solution. Let people choose which one to use.
It's a lot of things. It's them not saying ANYTHING about this phone except "lol we're loadin our appz on it!" It's zero communication since the initial announcement. It's the fact that they're promoting the hell out of the Razr while everyone is waiting for the Nexus. It's just stupid.
And it's molehill, not mo hill. -
Apologies for getting ranty earlier.
And thanks on the molehill thing
I agree that no one should be strongarmed into using a solution that IMO shouldn't exist and it should be on the new Nexus. It's just that it's not unprecedented for Nexus devices to be without wallet, that's all. I do wish that Google would have gotten more aggressive about insisting about Wallet. It's a Nexus killer feature atm.
IIRC, they didn't announce explicitly that Backup Assistant and MyVerizon would be on there, just people spotted them in images.
Could communication be better? Yeah I think so, from both Google and Verizon. Google should have controlled the advertising and messaging IMO. Verizon should have realized that, no, you won't confuse people by advertising more than one flagship at a time. You gotta remember though that most people outside of the enthusiast set don't know nor care about the Galaxy Nexus. My stepmom has a Fascinate and wants a new phone...I showed her the Nexus videos and such and she was pretty much bored to tears within a minute. The masses want flash over substance, cool party tricks (ohh but look at how thin it is/watch it reply to your question!) over a unique ownership experience. For them Droid RAZR is getting all the attention, she's actually mentioned it and iPhone 4S without prompting. As much as it would be cool for the Galaxy Nexus to achieve super duper mainstream status, it's not physically attractive enough to grab the eye of many consumers yet "the latest version of android" means nothing to those same consumers either. It's kinda a conundrum for the marketing people I'd imagine.
EDIT: I also realize that I was in your same position for a long time with the HTC Merge. I feel you.
If you think no communication is bad, try months of miscommunication from not only Verizon and HTC, but from stores like Best Buy. By the time the phone made it out to indirect stores only, it was ancient and pretty much doomed to no community following. Such a shame for what was a very good handset at it's announcement. It still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
I agree with you on your points, like I said I wasn't disagreeing with anyone here really, it's just that people are even going as far as to insist on not buying the phone and screaming it's not a google phone...even though it's one of the best phone's out now and google designed it...it's that weird level of fanboyisim that makes me crabby.
Sorry if I came across any other way!
Edit: I've somehow entered some sort of safemode on my stratosphere. I'm typing from it now and things seem the same except the word safe mode is in the lower left corner of the screen in a semi transparent box
Ok weirdness...all the non preinstalled apps in the app drawer are gone from it, yet I'm typing this from tapatalk. Gonna reboot phone. -
Anyone with a Galaxy Note in here?. Any thoughts
Thanks in advance -
There's three people I think.
The consensus is universally positive, provided the size isn't an issue for you. -
Kinda off topic, but Android now has a new buddy in the open source smartphone OS movement...
-
Many thanks for your reply
I already have a SG2, but i find the size to small, so i think the Note is perfect for me
-
You will not be disappointed, it's an amazing handset.
Whilst, unfortunately, I don't own one myself I've had the pleasure of playing around with one and that screen... gorgeous. -

LOL. Anyone seen this one? Motorola has preliminarily won an injuction to ban sales of iOS devices in Europe. That covers iPad's and iPhone's with cellular radios, as the offending patent is one which relates to a GPRS/GSM function.

Yes i can imagine surfing on the net and view movies with that amazing screen
I heard some users actually prefer viewing movies on the Notes screen rather than they big lcd TVs
-
I'm annoyed that Stratosphere didnt make it for Verizon's top qwerty. With 4g, i think it deserved to win, even with a single core processor.
-
The note is pretty sweet. You do have to understand beforehand that it is not really a one-handed device. Comfortably that is. Unless you have big hands. I dont mind though because I knew that when going in. I installed the abyss kernel a bit ago. Version 1.2, it was pretty unstable, about to try that recently released.

I changed my dpi to default, and got 20 app updates instantly

Did the build.prop work? -
This might be a stupid question...
If I'm using an HSDPA-capable handset on an HSPA+-capable mast and I switch to an HSPA+-capable handset, will I automatically see an improvement in speeds?
Or, would I need to be pretty much maxing out the HSDPA-capable handset already to see an improvement?
I'm wondering ( assuming I can get the cap removed from my account) if switching from the Ray to the Atrix will help my speeds. -
My dad's friend is a salesman at Verizon and he claims that they're releasing the Galaxy Nexus on December 14th. One of the salesman was already using one. They're putting one on hold for me to pick up on the 14th... we'll see how that plays out.
-
I wonder if it's true that the delay is due to Google vs. Verizon on the Google Wallet debacle.
-
Nope, unfortunately my phone didn't like the build.prop change and wouldn't boot lol. Had to reflash rom update to get it back. (Tried wiping cache/dalvik, no go)
Oh well, luckily I emailed the developer of asphalt 6 and they fixed the compatibility listing in time for me to get it for 10 cents
Sent from my Galaxy S II -
I'm sure it is. What else could it be?
I'm trying to think of a more poorly handled product launch than this. -
Both Engadget and TheVerge report Nexus being sold early:
Galaxy Nexus LTE sold early at some Best Buy and Verizon stores | The Verge -
The Bionic, SG2, iPhone 4? LOL.
-
The Bionic was pretty fail. I guess I forgot about that one because it wasn't very high-profile. The Galaxy S II isn't a Verizon device, so I wouldn't say it failed, per se. iPhone 4 went pretty well for them, though.
