@ToshibaWonder?: how many budget do you ready pay for ur machine?
IMHO,this series you chose is old,may be difficult for replacing broken device. In another hand,Pentium P4 is not is good suggestion because it decrease your battery life and easy to overheat
I recommend you fill out this FAQ when opening new thread here

I am real happy with my new Toshiba great screen wow video hope it holds up like my old one (not Toshiba). What kills me are the unrealistic prices the companys charge for up-grades! 1G ram $189 "RIGHT" 7200rpm HD $125 xtra
sheese I can buy one for $95 Oh well.
It's luck of the draw with any product purchased today and 1year is long enough to see any defect.

    I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite A100-VA1 (budget laptop). It's a Celeron M 430 @ 1.73GHz, 1GB Ram, 80GB SATA HDD, ATi Radeon 200M 320MB, 15.4" WXGA Display, and internal wireless.

I gotta say, this is my first Toshiba laptop (My dad has used about 4 for work since they have had laptops which is at least 10 years now, so he says they're good computers) and I must say, I'm so happy with it. Up until this point, I had been using used laptops, maxing out at a PIII 650 with 256mb (Latitude CPx J650GT, massive keyboard problems, that sparked me buying this one :p)

Anyway, over all, I so happy with this little computer. It runs Windows Vista Home Basic, although I know for a fact it can run Ultimate (I used the anytime upgrade disc and installed a 30 day demo of Ultimate). Ultimate installed and had Glass on by default. So the ATi Radeon Xpress 200m is a very capable graphics card. Flip3d worked perfectly too.

Only problem I have is battery life, 2 hours is good, but a 9 cell battery would be better served in this laptop.

-A very happy Toshiba customer :p

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4447 on sale for $599 with rebates.
It's loaded with all the things I wanted: Core DuoT2250, 1.7mgh,1024 MB DDR2, 5400rpm, 15.4 Trubrite,80 mg hard drive, Double Layer DVD, integrated 802.11a/b/g/ Vista Premium. Intel Graphic Media Accelerator 950 : 224 shared(but I don't play games).

I think I really like it, but I don't know how to put it through its paces (took me an hour to figure out how to shut it down for goodness sakes!!). Watched a movie, checked emails, tried to add MicroSuite 2003 til I get a copy of Office from my sister (it has 2 weeks free office on computer) and couldn't do that..but I think its me and not the computer.

Trying to decide on a warranty...the one from Office Depot is expensive. I loved the one from Office Max...but they didnt' have the computer or the price. (Any suggestions re warranty company much appreciated.)

So...without having anything but a desktop to compare it to, I THINK I really like it. Won't vote until I've had it a few weeks tho!

I have a Satellite Pro 4600,Windows 2000, one of the hinges is broken and it has a nasty pencil end mouse that I never use. But I got it for free from a friend and it is my 1st laptop, so I'm gratefull. Hope to get a new notebook in the near future though.

I like my new toshiba a135-2276 very much after installing an extra gig of memory today.

Price was great, best buy had it for $549, $200 off regular price.

Only problem was the vista ran too slow with 512mb memory, but with 1.5gig I could not be happier with the performance.

The crucial 1gig memory was just $81 at mwave.com.

I just got Satellite A135-S2276. I haven’t benched marked it or used it for a full day yet but I like the notebook overall. You can't beat Best Buy deals if you are looking in to getting one.

I need to upgrade this to XP, but just found out that Toshiba website doesn’t even have XP drivers for this model. I don’t like using aftermarket drivers like omega drivers, but I guess I don’t have any choice.

The Computer is Good, but the Service is VERY BAD.

Why should you have to distroy all your software and data just to repair a Windows XP installation?

That is the Toshiba way. Bad news if you have say 100 GB of applicaitons installed.

I cannot think of one bad thing to say about my old Toshi 1905-S277. Six years old and still runs strong. In fact, I just threw another $100 of ram to get her up to 1gb just because I'm confident I'll get that back out of her. This weekend I'm swapping the 30gb for a 40gb just because I can and I want the extra space for movies while traveling. Now if only Toshiba made cars... ;)

lol, no the way you say it is impossible. your thinking of things like hps have. It lets you watch movies and dvds without booting windows. But the laptop is turned on, without power nothing would happen. And toshibas cant do it, only some brands can.

edit: maybe your primary language isnt english and thats why you couldnt say what you wanted properly

    Hi Everyone,

This is my first time so be gentle OK? Posting here mean.
I would sure love it a lot better if I had realized the implications of a GMA 950in it. That is this baby's only downfall so far and I'm stuck. Horrors!

I was really hoping to break up w/ my PS2 and use this for gaming and multimedia on this beast but that card is going to limit me. This is my first ever PC aside from work so I have a lot to learn.

    Satellite P205-S6297
    Core 2 Dual T5500
    1.66 GHz, 2MB L2 , 667 MHz FSB w/ 64-bit
    Intel 945GM Expess chipset
GMA 950 w/ 8MB-256MB allocated shared graphics memory (whatever that means)
    250GB (4200RPM) serial ATA HDD
    8X DVD+RW supports Labelflash
    17" TruBrite 1440x900(WXGA+)
Runs 32-bit Vista Home premium w/ Aero on OK.
    Received it May 1st
    Anything else I should mention?
Please post opinions, comments regarding my new toy if you'd like.

    SPECS:

    TOSHIBA Satellite P100-ST9742
17" widescreen (that's one of the few nice things about it)
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2CPU
    T7200 @ 2.00 GHz
    2.01GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM

    Here's my gripe...
Bought it (and the extended warranty) and within a month or so stress cracks started appearing on the laptop lid where the orange cover resides (almost like the orange plastic cover couldn't take the stress and was simply creating cracks).

Anyway, I called Toshiba and they gave me the name/number of a local repair shop. When I called them I was told, "the plastics on the Toshiba are not covered under warranty" and that I would have to pay to replace it. I followed with the obvious, "so what you are saying is that I pay to fix this and then it can happen in another month or two, in which case I'll be back to buy another one?". Their response: "yup".

I just called today to confirm that Toshiba agreed with that and they did. All material defects (and this is a serious defect) are NOT covered under warranty.

    {Having said that, I obviously understand that if I were to have dropped it, it would be my fault and wouldn't expect Toshiba to pick up the tab.}

So...suffice it say, I sit with what is essentially a brand new laptop and I sit day by day watching the cracks grow slightly larger to compensate for the really poor design. I figure when it finally does break apart, I buy a monitor and then let the kids use it as their "junk computer" but what an expensive "junk computer" don't you think?!?!?

Then I'll go buy an Apple. I have a colleague that's never had a problem with his...he's so lucky like that!

Ok, I bought a Satellite A15 some 3 years back. I paid only $500 for it, which was at the time the cheapest notebook one could buy. I can understand it being slow, but the basic design was used on much of the Satellite lineup. The keyboard is as stiff as a wet noodle, and the plastics are of the lowest quality. The lid isn't very thick either, as putting even a small amount of pressure gives a lot of rippling effect on the screen.

Suffice to say, I hate it.

I am pretty satisfied with my P105-S9337. Only things I don't like is the cover for the lid seems to have a lot of flex and the latch for the screen is very poorly designed.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite 5105 about 3 or 4 years back. I must say that within 4 weeks of purchasing this laptop, I really hated this notebook. It has a very flimsy feeling, which was there since the start. The screen shakes if you give it a slight tap. The graphics on this laptop stopped me from playing anything but old games. The touchpad was very....weird. The graphics they let you do inside of it isn't really worth it. I also thought the touchpad was kind of small. It is very bad for gaming.

Worst of all, out of nowhere, and without any physical action that caused it, the graphics for the laptop completely messed up. There are lines on the screen all the time and different things appear. It's kind of interesting to see whenever I am forced to use this PoS.

After getting my new Sony Vaio FE about 7 months ago, I was so pleased. :)

I've had my Satellite u205-s5057 for about a week and a half now, and overall, I think it's OK.

Pros: It's small and light. However, I've seen many 12.1" laptops that have smaller form factors and are lighter to boot. It's a pretty sturdy machine though, so it's got that going for it. Even with only 1 gig of memory, I don't feel the system really ever has to chug under Vista. I don't play games on it, so video performance is a non-issue. I really like the external volume switch on the side.

Cons: The battery life definitely leaves much to be desired. I have a 17" Gateway with an x700 pro video card that (on highest performance settings) will outlast this thing on power saver settings. Also, I hate, hate, (Hate I say!) the toshiba flash cards app. It does not play nice with Vista at all and crashes constantly. I simply don't need flashy visuals when using my hot keys. Finally, while I like the fingerprint reader, I hate its placement. I'm constantly triggering it when I type, as it is next to my right palm and will try to scan my hand if I get too close.

My Toshiba is 4 years old now - I don't even remember what model it was (the sticker is no longer there) all it says that this is Satelite and also harman/kardon (whatever that means). It's a 15" P4 2.4ghz and 256mb of RAM! The weight is 3kg. I had to change the hard drive last year, but apart from that the laptop has never let me down. In particular, I never had to use support.

Mostly Win XP, never blue screens, never any fan/other hardware problems, I watch DVDs pretty much every day on it, 4 years and no problems with the DVD drive, the laptop never gets hot, keyboard is as new - I type a lot (essays, dissertation now) and the only effect of this is shiny buttons, but all letters are intact, screen is matte and bright, the battery used to be 3 hours but now it has aged a bit ;), laptop came with complete restore cds plus separate cd with only the drivers, very handy as I've tried to install on it virtually every OS during these years.

Anyway its my great old friend and although I am getting new fancy Fujitsu my next laptop is likely going to be the toshiba.

    :)

I've got a friend who lives in Japan she says people there would never even think of buying stuff like dell, ibm, hp etc., the most popular for quality are panasonic and toshiba.

I agree the point on Dell/HP. Dell/HP use very quality/priced parts for thier laptops. You get what you paid for.

I've had my M115-S3094 for about 9 months. Very capable system and I havent any problems with it. Vista was fine on it, but i'm keeping XP Pro until SP1 for Vista
