Just got my X205-S9359 today. I love it :D It's been ripping through whatever games I throw at it. The speakers are above and beyond what I was expecting, and for a new Vista user I don't find it very moan-and-groan worthy thus far.

for all of those with bloatware- did you know that if you would have bought it at best buy they would have gotten rid of all of that bloatware and would have gone through the registry and deleted what you don't need. I was looking at one at best buy. i'm from ND. anyways they say they would do that for me. I found a great deal on a Toshiba..orignally a 999.99 dollar computer for 849.99. def. a great deal for all the specs.

I have had my Toshiba X200 for nearly a week and am loving it so far.
Having some problems with Windows Vista however, but usually find the fixes to those issues.

Can someone tell me, in blonde terms, exactly what toshiba flash cards do? Do I need them? Can I delete them without any problems? They're a pain in my a$$.

    Thanks!

The toshiba flashcards are the icons that appear when you press and hold the Fn key. It makes it possible to change many settings of the laptop quickly such as brightness, wifi, sleep, mute, etc. The functions that the flashcard do is shown by the icons under the F1-F12 keys.

I do not recommend uninstalling the flashcards. If you find them intrusive, maybe you move them to the bottom of the screen instead of on the top. That's what I did :)

OK. I thought they might have something to do with the way my screen "flashes" occasionally. It's a BIG problem when I'm using Photoshop, especially, because if, for instance, I'm in the process of trying to draw an outline around an object, if the screen flashes, it completes the outline, and NOT in a good way. Very frustrating.

I am really happy with my x205 I am having the screen flashing on me when it first starts up. I have no idea why though, anyone else having this problem other than me and Tibbie-mom? Maybe there's a fix out there for it we are not aware of.

Mine flashes for a moment upon startup as well - My HP did the same thing...

I uninstalled the flashcards.....I rarely used the function keys on my other laptop - the only ones I will be using are the display switcher and screen brightness - and those work without the software.

It suits me just fine. I suppose if you like something blindingly bright then this wouldn't cut it, but I don't like mine to be like a halogen headlight. It's plenty bright to these eyes.

I'm really dissapointed in my Tecra M7. I bought the tablet PC for art, but the LCD screen is just dark, hard to see, it has some of the worst viewing angles I have ever seen and the build quality seems painfully average. I bought the customized M7 one week before Toshiba seemingly started to phase them out and removed almost all the M7's from their site. I would not buy it again.

I like my X205 far more, but I've not had it long enough to make a solid decision on it. The construction on it seems more solid and better thought out.

6 year satellite, not one problem ever, and I use it daily.
So impressed with Toshiba I ordered a new Tecra A9 with a core2 duo.
Should have it in maybe 10 days.
What I have now is a satellite 1410-s174...

hey uninformed (possible ignorant too) american dude, take ur attitude and stuff it where the sun don't shine.

anyhow, in response to the original post of this thread:

sofar having my toshiba a200-th7 desktop-replacement-class notebook since Sept 1st I have had to restore it (aren't unremovable trojan's fun? - thanks windows live onecare for doing nothing, back to zonealarm free, avg antivirus free+avg antispyware and spybot+windows defender) using the recovery cds made by futureshop, which thankfully they did as i couldn't figureout how to get it to access the hard drive partition with the system restore to factory settings information on it. anyhow since last thurs after the restore my laptop has been awsome, [despite the fact that some of the icons are a bit different from when i got it from futureshop after it was setup and there is only 1 hard drive (even physically - i looked) where there was originally 2 (the other being 6 gig drive), but since the recovery discs are supposed to restore to factory settings i am assuming my post-Future Shop config was not standard toshiba config], it runs world of warcraft at nearly constant 60 frames per second with nearly everything turned up, and guildwars is at max everything...

one downside i have noticed is that parts of vista like to crash every so often and the left side of the laptop gets quite warm when running games. I haven't even tried to burn a movie or any disc in general so i can't comment yet on how it fares on that.

Has anyone seen any reviews or opinions on this laptop model? not much turns up in google searches.

I got my X205-9349 on Sept. 13 and I already upgraded the cpu to the T7300 and I am very happy with it so far, can play Bioshock, FEAR at good frame rates.

Well, Last week I removed the T7300 and installed the T7700 cpu now I am really happy with my 9349 I average about 85fps in FEAR with all settings maxed @ 1280x800, even Bioshock runs silky smooth all the time with all settings maxed.

My Toshiba P30...well I first bought it for the purpose of Gaming. I figgured 128mb ATI Radeon Mobility...COOL! Well it ran ok playing resource Hog games like Battlefield. But then my video went to crap! red lines everywhere! still able to see alittle bit behind them but the motherboard was fried. I guess toshiba crapped the bed bigtime about this overheating issue.

Warranty replaced my motherboard and I was happy again. But then a year later... freakin black and white boxes all over the screen!! once again, fried motherboard! now out of warranty I sent it to "Laptop Rescue" to see if I could get a chip swapped out to get it working. Nope, they tried and when I got it back it wouldn't even boot up anymore.

so now I'm trying to find a motherboard on a students budget, what a pain in the butt.

When it worked ("worked" being no crashing and smooth running) I was happy, but that was %50 of the time. My new opinion on Laptops...NOT FOR GAMING! I shouldda got a sweet desktop for the same price...

I have no clue, but i would love to replace my current 4200 RPM fujitsu hdd with something faster.

Also, my a200 can support upto 4GB of ddr2 ram, but I have only seen 1GB chips available, anyone seen 2GB ddr2 laptop ram chips for sale that would work with the a200?

    Update on my A135-S2276...
Got my notebook from Best Buy around end of march with great deal. Although it's pain in the ass to install XP, I liked the notebook for overall for performances/value/price ratio. It's a decent notebook, but I have never faced worst Customer Service in my life to date.

    Here's what happened...
    1. I got my notebook at end of march.
    2. With regular uses (surfing the internet, music, office applications) and I got boot bios password error on July 29th. I've called CS and they told me to take it to their Authorized Customer Service Center and told me it will be fixed instantly. I'd called and went to the CS Center, and the guy told me due to OVERWHELMING repairs they have, its going to take several months to fix it. Called Toshiba again. told me to go to another CS Center, I've called other CS Center and they told me same BS. Left my notebook on July 30th.
    3. A month passed and no news on my notebook. Called CS and the supervisor couldn't tell me anything about my notebook other then its being serviced. Weekly call to Toshiba and Service Center started and spended hours a week with lovely people at Toshiba and CS Center. Almost another month passed and pratically gave up getting my notebook back. On Monday I got a call from Service Center and told me after LONG Diagnostics they have finally found a problem and replaced the motherboard, and eventually got my notebook back on September 25.

I know I got what I paid for but expected a hint of Customer Service or at least pretend to be helpful from such a globally large and well known corp. It's a decent notebook but I am sure that the A135-S2276 is the last Toshiba product that I'll ever buy. I wish all Toshiba notebook owners luck! I hope you don't have to face same problem as I did.

I had a Tohisba A75-S229. nothing but crashes/overheating problems. NEVER BUY A TOSHIBA!!! There is even a class action lawsuit being filed right now. Toshiba is not taking responsibility for its faulty products.

    I bought a new Dell XPS M1330. works like a charm :)

I bought the Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656 a couple months ago at Best Buy for $350. Surprisingly good laptop for the bucks, well made and rugged. components/hardware (except for CPU, RAM and HDD) are the same as higher priced models.

15.4" matte LCD, 1.6GHz Celeron M 520, 512MB, 80GB HDD, Multiformat DL DVD±RW, 5-in-1 card reader, Wi-Fi, LAN, FireWire, Vista Lite (Vista Home Basic).

Upgraded the RAM to 2GB (of course) and it's handled office apps, email, web browsing with no problems.

Best Bang For The Buck out there.

Mine is a Toshiba Satellite X205 with Intel Centrino Core Duo 1.67 GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8700 256 MB, RealTek HD Audio and 2x 120 GB HDDs

Performance wise, it seems as it should so far. Vista Home Prem is a real... heh heh heh. Let's just say, I trashed the UAC as soon as I figured out how. I don't like my machine telling me what I can and cannot do.

I can't really say if I love it yet, as I haven't gotten around to installing Unreal Tournament 2004 on it. I know it should run since it ran very well on my old desktop machine with a 1.4 GHz AMD Athlon CPU, 1 GB RAM and 128 MB ATI Radeo 9600XT. This machine should outclass the desktop, right?

But yes, I did dislike the junkware that was installed and went through and got rid of what I didn't want. I did keep Bejeweled 2 though, as that is quite addicting.

I used to have a Qosmio G35-AV 660 with no issues whatsover, send it home because it was too heavy to carrying with me here in Iraq. My wife sold it for $800.00 and bought me yesterday on a garage sale a P105-9337 brand new stiil on package and seal for only $800.00 due to moving out. So is like I upgrade, thats my 3rd Toshiba and 2nd Satellite I have here now a A135-S2246 I pay $500.00 used with only issue Vista, but I getting use to. Support is not the best but they do good machines, I'm planning buying a X205-SLi-3 for me and left the other one for my wife.

I got a great deal ($499)from Fry's on a A215-S7407. The machine is working well however, if I had known what a piece of crap VISTA is, I never would have bought this machine.... especially since it looks like a "work in progress" to back fill with WinXP Pro....
BTW... The SYNAPTIC touch pad is very flaky.......

Well i have had my Toshiba equium A60 for over 3 years now and its been all over the uk in a truck, to oz and back several times and canada. The only time it went wrong was when the centre pin in the power cable broke. Toshiba collected it and had it back to me within 10 days i think. I now lust after the Toshiba Satellite X200-219 which i think looks to be a great Laptop and on that i hope will run top end games like the flight sims.

    found your laptop here: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/rdet.jsp?poid=393777&seg=HHO

not bad for a system (especially the $US price you got!), though if it had 2gb of ram it would probably work better, vista (ultimate, not sure about home premium) usually does.

the graphics, while shared memory with the system, is nice, but dedicated ram would be better (and more expensive).

what do you mean by flaky?

I have found the touchpad (can be lit-up (blue) to be used as buttons and volume control - something not normal for touchpads! WOOT!) to be quite nice, and responsive, though for gaming i prefer to use a usb mouse.

Also, I am unable to find my laptop on the toshiba US site, I can locate it on the canadian site but you would think that such a new laptop like mine would be available (or still available) on the US site.

I currently have a Toshiba, but it will be replaced in the next few weeks. My only reason for replacing it is a matter of performance, the little 1.3Ghz Celeron doesn't pack enough punch for today's apps, and the battery only gives me about 40min between charges. Not that I expected anything else from it, we bought this thing 2 years ago with the sole purpose of sitting on a desk, plugged, serving as a terminal for an online-school program.

Except for the battery, this little box is running exactly the same way it did when it came out of the box, I have to say that Toshiba knows what they're doing with laptops that just work.

I like Toshiba so far I am on my 3rd one I started with the 2435-S255 which one of my kids is still using no problems, my oldest son has the X205-9349, and I just got the X205-SLi1 and I like all 3 of them. I put the T7700 from my 9349 on my SLi1 and put the T7250 on my 9349 and I tell you this sli1 is very fast with the T7700 and the 2 x 8600M GT's, even with the T7250 on the 9349 my son is playing Call of Duty 4 and Bioshock and they play very nice and smooth.

I have noticed that http://www.systemrequirementlab.com/ rates my laptop as not being able to run cod4 but it does just not under max settings, its playable at max resolution however.

I got mine, a Toshiba Portege 4000 PIII from mom as a hand-me-down (although I took it anyway--she has a new Celeron laptop now), and I like it so much...because it's the only one I have. I had it coated with black Nikkalite sticker to hide the faded grey paint, so I had it from gray to black without repainting it. Reinstall is easy with the recovery disc, but the problem is the very picky requirements for reinstallation (IT MUST USE A TOSHIBA CD-ROM DRIVE...waaaah).

It was able to run all sorts of software. I had Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit and a few emulators running without a glitch (NFS was a bit slow) except for the window-type display, which is the built-in Trident CyberBlade XP's fault. What killed my HD today (?) is when I attempted to install Kana: Okaeri and it froze after installation. Maybe because I overloaded it.

The good thing, though, is that it was able to run for three straight days without a shutdown while online before I shut it down myself.

Right now, it's down...I need a new hard drive, five or so months after replacing it.

I had a Toshiba for about 4 years now, had problem with heating and shutting off but i past that now, clean up the fans and heat sinks and everything is all kool, then power supply issues but got past that as well. but is ok i still like me Toshiba.

    BTW

CompUsa is going out of business on February 2008, they are going to start selling everything starting with a 5% off, and lower from then on as they get closer to the closing date. Take advantage of the good price to get some kool stuff at good price.

I just ordered the Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7479, and will be at my doorstep in the next few days. I am getting excited about it. I will let you all know how I like it.

I still have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4060CDT that I got back in 1999. I haven't had the first problem with it. Although it has been rarely used for the last several years. A Pentium 2 and a whopping 192mb of RAM are dog slow these days, although it does run the Linux Ubuntu OS just fine.

I bought a new Satellite M45-S265 in 9/05 and it was great for about 18 months. Then it had an overheating episode that killed the hard drive. I was a little disappointed in it.

Instead of fixing it, I stupidly decided to buy a new HP dv9000t. I'm not crazy about it. I finally got around to installing a new hard drive last week in the M45 and upgraded from 512mb tp 1.5GB of RAM. Running XP Home, the Pentium M 730 is at least as quick as the Core 2 Duo T5500 on my HP...thanks Vista!

I'm not sure if I'll buy another Toshiba next time around. I like the Tecra models, but they cost more than a Lenovo T61 with equal or better specs. If the ThinkPad wasn't an option for me, I'd readily buy another Toshiba Satellite.
