also, i havent really researched the drivers and windows 7. im going to crack it so there is unlitmited time, but just wondering if i should do anything else.

is there a way i can get the drivers for the x300/305 for windows 7?

after a few of the automatic updates, i now have the aero theme because of the video driver installed. i now have the nvidia control panel back. i still have to look into the realtek drivers, but am thinking they are already installed. i havent really done anything, but windows 7 seems pretty easy to install and run.

Hmmm,, I think the first issue with any two Windows apps is being on the same partition. You just ask for issues that way. It's hard enough to get them to load dual x64 and x86 on same physical drive with seperate partitons.

As I described earlier, the truely best way to dual boot any two different OS of either x64 or x86 is to dual drive dual boot, two seperate physical drives with their own boot primary partitions and loader. If space is an isse you can in most cases load the installs to of program files to a shared common partition.

As for the Windows 7, I cant see the point of going backwards to x32 since this OS is aimed at x64 & x128 forward. Since the windows 7 is based off the vista x64 system, the same should be the same for the backwards compatable x86 stuff. Try using the Vista x86 drivers.

ok well i increased the partition size using an easy program. right now im dualbooting with vista 64bit and windows 7 32-bit without any problems. i have each on a seperate partition, vista with 200 gb and windows 7 with 100gb. i have most drivers installed, but still looking around for the toshiba flash cards driver. the problem is is that the drivers for this computer are only for 64 bit vista, theres no 32bit or any other OS.

i dont know if its possible, but if i have a game installed on one partition (vista partition) or even a file like music or something can i use it through windows 7? is there a way i can get access to the files on the other partition? i can see the partition through my computer on the vista OS but not through the windows 7 OS.

if i cant, i dont really care ill just put everything on the two partitions.

    1tb wd 7200rpm hd
pny nvidia 9400gt (not much of a gamer)

    gigabyte ep45 ud3p

the cpu temps stay idle around 85 farenheit (i know im amazing lol)

There's a neet app called Take Ownership used now in "7" and it works for Vista too to take ownership of old XP files and folders so you dont have to click a thousands times just to brouse your old drive. Yes, you can use the all files and folders from other partition. The game install share should work if you have a common files/folder install directory.

I had the same problem as you when i installed windows 7 in that it wouldnt show the drive with all my media on it due to dual booting the solution is fairly simple:

Weird, I never experienced not being able to see another partition, just not access my old profile docs in XP or Vista. For that, "Take Ownership" worked for me. It also worked in Vista for brousing my XP and 7 stuf (my user accounts).

alright i figured out to see the partition and i can access all the files. i just have to reinstall the programs on windows 7 to the same place i installed them on vista.

ive only had one issue with windows 7, and thats with call of duty 4 multiplayer, the game wont boot up. i tried installing it on the windows 7 partition and the vista shared partiiton, but nothing would work. the screen just loads up black then crashes. single player is ok.

ill look into that program to see if it makes it easier to find the files.

    thanks

    i got a quick question.

i just installed the vista 32-bit driver off of nvidias website for windows 7. i get about 90-100 fps with a resolution of 1280x800, with field depth off on call of duty 4. i think its better than vista, but will i get better performance from laptopvideo2go drivers? anyone try this?

does anyone know if theres any software for the keyboard or something? i can use the flashcards with the mouse, but the fn key doesnt work to pop it up. is there a setting i can enable?

i got all functions working in windows 7, from the flash cards to the media bar lighting up and IT BOOTS UP IN UNDER 20 SECONDS FROM WHEN I CHOOSE WINDOWS 7 OS. i hated vista, where it took over 2 minutes saying "please wait" i think it was all the bloatware from toshiba. i only installed 4 or 5 drivers from toshiba, theres no way i need 25+.

i have 79 processes running in the background in vista and under 40 in windows 7. all the toshiba crap is annoying. they could easially combine everything into one program. for some reason they need one program to detect wireless, another one to connect to it and another one to monitor it! they need one program for the webcam and another one for the face recognition. i just dont get all the uselessness. i just use everything that microsoft installed for me.

This is the exact reason i went out and purchased a retail version of Vista x64 for my Qosmio, then used vlite and stripped out all the stuff i dont need or use and installed only the necessary drivers, I only have 45 processess running on a fresh boot of vista and thats with a few of my own start-up programs running. Im happy with it and it hasnt had a single problem and is also faster and more stable than win 7 at least for me at the moment.

well thats the problem i have. i got the flash cards working, but i have to use the mouse. hold your mouse at the top of the screen for 5-10 seconds and it should pop up.

thats why i was wondering if there was some keyboard software for the fn key.

    ah thats great...
and your welcome, its my pleasure to help...i feel that all users should be equally given the right to extract as much performance out of this laptop as possible. the middle finger to toshiba for disregarding all of this, with no oc ability, no easy access, horrible support, etc. the list goes on...

that shows the power of the 4870 and the qx9300...im sure you can overclock that qx9300 of yours close to 4ghz along with proper cooling, and if u get 2 4870's, you should score above 20k...ouch

I agree, unfortunately i have to wait for a bios update that fixes the voltage threshold divisors. As for the Mobility HD4870s, I am psyched, and cant wait. The HD3870s in here, are very capable cards, but their performance is limited by the drivers, and the fact that the bios voltages arent handled correctly yet. I can see my rig getting 18k once the fixes are applied. I'll just have to wait and see. Also, I'm not sure if this is limited to the Vbios, or drivers, but these cards run at Gen 2.0 X8 a piece, what is interesting is that the motherboard and slots support Gen 2.0 X16 just like the Asus.

im sure this must be a bios and video driver thing because they are both hand in hand...hopefully you can get it running a 16 2.0, fix the voltages, and then get the 4870s...u will score at least 20k with everything overclocked...

edit: i updated the front page with the 3 links for the gpu's.

Pioneer DVRTD08L DVD rOM drive issues on X305! I have been experiencing problems with my DVD getting dropped out of system requiring a restart. I think I nerrowed it down to when using Nero v8.13.x and can't remember for sure if it was happening regurlarly last year on Nero v8.2.6.0. I can use other apps utilising DVD for burning such as DVDFab v5 Premium and no problem. I cant find where to confirm if it is just getting knocked out of DMA. It doesnt even appear to be kicked down to at least PIO mode.

Is this happening to anybody else and if so, is there a Pioneer firmware flash to fix and update? I accept and realise it may and can be many other things so I am very welcome and open to advice of things to check for.

    Thankx

Questions for anybody else who has done the complete fresh vista Install!

After ista Enterprise x64 SP1, I have finished the basics and am left with an unknown device just like on previous Qosmio on PM945. Something to do with ACPI\TOS6205 *6205. What is this and what Toshiba driver corrects it? As far as I know, all my stuff is working and even complete ACPI S3/S4.

Only thing I noticed with Enterprise over Ultimate, is that "Hibernate" is off by default. To enable it go to decktop and right click to new and create short cut. in path type powercfg /hibernate on and next to name it and save. Now from decktop, right click and run as admin and it is good to go, Hibernate is now enabled.

The only other annoying thing is the "Hibernate" tab is no longer available on shut down menue for mobile install like in Ultimate. Does anybody know how to regedit that to make it appear? how do we get rid of "power" like in 7 Ultimate or trade it for "switch users"

Additionally: What was that fix or file to enable the pop flash cards (key notify) boxes for FN button for Vista x64?

Which one (file number)? I installed the one from site for Vista x64 and got this error: error 2755 server returned unexpected error 1624. I followed the link and get several choices for toshiba. Also what about the hot keys (lighted buttons on top of keyboard) and ort the visual block displays for them (pop ups for FN button)?

EDIT: Thanx, it worked the 3rd try and all is good.

Oh ja, and I got my "Hibernate" button back on shut down menue again. Not sure how, but glad it is.

How do we force number lock on at Windows start up, not just at boot and after log in. The point of having num lon=ck on at log on is to to be able to quickly enter key codes using numbers before letters. Is this a Toshiba thing or Windows thing, cause my same Vista Enterprise enables number lock on on ASUS desktop.

    Onboard audio:

What driver and software did you guiys choose to use for re-install onboard audio to get record with what you hear options or record i"Steroe Mix"? I normally used my drop in X-Fi card but no I noticed that when I unplug it, I do not get any record with "what you hear" option anymore and I used to with the Realtek codec and even a record "stereo line in mix".

What is the exact RealTek model we have if we go get the direct codecs and software?

I noticed that toshiba list a Synaptecs touch pad as well as the ALPS one I have. Does anybody have an X305/X300 with installed Synaptecs pad? If so, where can we buy one as a replacement? I much rather have the Synaptecs v/s the ALPS. EDIT: It looks like if you install the Synaptecs driver to the installed ALPS you get basic str8 mouse functions, no custom buttons or anything else, but it will install, just like the Windows Update.

I installed the flash Cards utility from Toshiba and I get no responce from the FN key as far as drop down but some of the functions to work, just not pop up menue. I even pulled the FN key notify file from the other drive to test and it did nothing new.

Is there a seperate driver for the Toshiba "hot keys"? I can't even turn the lights off if I wanted to. Certain functions such media player for CVreative Audigy work but no cam or Dolby (yes the Dolby Center is installed).

No, not at 1st. I did now and that did the trick for the drop down cards and the LED touch pad and on/off control.

Now, where do we get the correct audio software for the RealTek audio device to use 2 channel Stereo mix? . In my previouse Toshiba with Audigy X-Fi removed, I had an icon for a picture of a sound card and option to record in line in 2 channel stereo mix. Now I dont.

Edit: This is what I get on my Toshiba install after installing Creative X-Fi Notebook. I did have to keep the Windows driver till the beta came out last month because if I updated I lost the Creative sorce "What You Hear". Then somehwere along the way (I can't remember for sure), I ended up after an update and now had the RealTek Stereo Mix and allowed me to record like "what You Hear" but I didn't have to monitor with headphones anymore.

I have not yet confirmed if my HDMI HD audio works or is even installed correctly yet. I also noticed that none of the RealTek site driver downloads include the HD control pannel software.

All in all a powerfull DTR......
i'm a student at cummunication and multi media design school. so it helps a lot.
i was lucky enough to find this laptop (humph...) for the price i payed for it.the qosmio x300 has a very nice masterfullness/shjitiness ratio that balance everything out.
its quick enough for anyone to be envious of you. the sound is the best ive seen on a portable product.
And then there are the shjitty factors that balance the coolness out so that youre not envied. the cruddy flexing keyboard. the powerbrick that would put an xbox 360 to shame...the crappy screen quality and the battery.

i didnt factor the looks in. because thats a matter of taste. you like it or you hate it. i personally like it. but its a bit to "Bask in my coolness".

I lie the looks for today. But my desires change with time so I wonder what it will feel like if I still have it next year. I do keep most of my older models and paint them to suit mt taste for the time. Although on this model, I can see where painting is gonna be different since most of it was clear plastic we can paint from behind or just base coat and slear coat the top for a nice solid look.

I only wish we had a lighted keyboard like on my Alienware wich really comes in so handy in dim light for lots of typing.

heya!!!!!Memph333!!!!! what do you mean by crappy screen................?when i first got my x300/o4s the colours looked kinda washed greyish (dull) noticed digtal vibrancy was factory set to zero, so i set it to 36% but some updates put it back to 0%(factory setting) annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When tweaking red blue green (noticed digtal vibrancy setting on each colour stays the same e.g if set on 40 for red then set green to 50 it will change red automatically to 50) good idea too write your preferences down incase of an update setting all your preferences to crappy factory settings.

    RED GREEN BLUE
    brightness 52 50 52
    digtal brightness 36 36 36
    contrast 50 62 45
    gamma 50 63 57
(best i could do, but still not quite happy with depth of colour tones)

thats exactly what i mean. the colour gamut is not that fantastic.for a product that costs bout 2500 euro's. ya had to mess around with the monitor colours to get an acceptabel result. plus the viewangles were pretty sucky. i recommend purchasing a new screen. thats what i did. (because i wrecked mine). and yes. digital vibrance is a great help. set it to bout 25 procent on the new monior. havent messed around with the colours.

    otherwise its pretty ok...

yeah the 1920x1200/1920x1080 screens should have been incorporated with the q706, and the more expensive models. 2 9800's can easily take on 1920x1200, and if not, just run the game at a lower resolution. toshiba has made a huge mistake with that.
here is a huge list of mistakes:

    1. not getting drivers out fast enough
    2. not having overclocking/tweaking support
    3. not having a bracket available for a 2nd hard drive that comes with the computer or is able to be purchased online
    4. not having the x305 customizable
    5. not putting the right components together, ex. qx9300 with 2 9800's...instead of a qx9300 with a 9800m gtx.
    6. only including 1 fan on the q701 and q705.
    7. not having upgrade support, and making it hard to upgrade with having to take apart every single thing
    8. not having 1920x1200/1920x1080 screens (blu-ray also)

    Hey guys,

Recently I started experience BSOD. I notice that it only happens after I've hibernated my laptop a few times and then I try restarting. As it's trying to restart it hangs for a while before giving me the

    driver_power_state_failure BSOD

    Has this happened to you?

I did some research and am wondering if my having a second hard drive installed has anything to do with it. I can't be sure though since I am having a hard time duplicating the problem.

The other thing, which may or may not be related is that I keep getting the following error (as it appears in my log):

" A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the TrkWks service."

    Thoughts?

    Thanks for your help.

    Raymond
