You can stop the keyboard flex just like I have by putting an old unused plastic credit-card sized card under the keyboard right above the WIFI card to the right and taping it to the plastic base. Just be careful with the keyboard ribbon when lifting the keyboard up...

I overclock my processor with Nvidia system tools but you will be better off just upgrading your processor. Software CPU overclocking is not recommended although mine runs pretty stable at 2.6--306mhz fsb.

Hey, hey sgilmore62!
Thx for answer! Btw i can't find QX9300 on newegg, and the average price on it is around 800$ on e-bay :O. I think I'll w8 a bit for price reduction
. (According to some information intel going to drop prices on mobile cpu on May/June, and this reduction going to be around 15-30%)
Btw i cannot force CUDA to use 9800 GTS, and I don't know if physix is working. Btw latest nVidia drivers should support Q305-706 but they didn't recognize 9800 GTS installed and I used modified inf from laptopvidio2go. So i suppose no hybrid sli forever?
I think our dual 9800 GTS is a kinda freak, looks like it is something like 9800 GTS GX2 with no good support from nVidia and Toshiba, or I’m wrong and it is 2 separated cards?
Btw did you had any luck with RAID?
Let's bump it: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=89462 -

Hey Dude55!
179.48 even do not recognize 9800 GTS as a supported GPU I used modified inf to install it :< And still no PhysX support. -
Ah that sucks, i thought it was supported because the x305 wasnt part of the unsupported list.
-
Btw now 3d Mark Vantage says that my videocard do not support DirectX 10.
-
Lol, how hard does one have to be typing to get it to flex a.nywhere to be of an issue or even barely noticed. I have used it for over 3 months now and not noticed a thing. I think if one pounded on it like a stenograph in the navy, then ja, you're gonna get some flex.
But if you can pound so hard to flex it in that one area, then you might as well glue some thin psheet tin, steel or copper behind it. Most computer surplus stores will carry this. We use it in the server racks and towers. -
okay thanks i will try it!
-
Hey i found the problem to be a combination of the driver and bios 1.90 i flashed back down to bios 1.80 and removed driver and used driver 181.22 from this site http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/. the driver i was using was the beta notebook driver on nvidias website. this driver runs great!!
-
All mobile video card owners should expect more problems as more preparations are made before all cards switch to the Windwos 7 WDM. It seems both GFX giants are headed that way. Windows causes alot of problems with drivers.
-
Glad to see there are no more problems raymond, the 1.90 bios is usually in accordance to the nvidia bios...as it has new bios for the nvidia chip as well.
and nice to see you got your qx9300...think you can beat e-wrecked?
and bad news, OCZ will no longer be supporting the flextronics arima, so no more upgrading hopes through OCZ and probably no support...so good luck all lol

i would just like to update my progress, i just scored 8738 with ridiculous clocks of 700/1100/1900, and memory timings of 7-6-6-16.
im using the newest drivers on toshiba's site....
anybody recommend any better drivers? the 185.20's right here: http://laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=22523 -
Any1 knows what CPU I should get for my X300 laptop (2.0ghz default) so that I can play l4d with out those 25s and 30s dip on max settings? I seriously the 2.0 ghz is a bottleneck in a lot of games!
I'm going to try the new Nvidia drivers (laptop) right now and see if they help with anything
-
well I tried them out, and ran left 4 dead ( didn't expect anything) but my avg and min frame rates went up, stead of getting 25 fps I got 30 fps on car with swarm, and I got 85 fps avg at the begining instead of 70-75.
Going to try some more games
-
hmmm i see, mind trying 3dmark 06? if not thats fine...i just want some "before" and "after" results to see if this driver will increase my performance...i want to hit 9000 without upgrading anything.
-
Actually Dude, XoticPC will still honor my 3 years of parts and service warranty, as well as upgrade paths. There is a rumor going around that a vendor will pick up where OCZ dropped the ball, and Alienware will continue it's support of the M17. As well Arima still makes the 840 DI, so no worries when it comes to upgrading.
-
Well 3dmark06 is very dependant on the CPU, so this driver won't do much other than add a couple of points if any.
You want to see some true 3dmark06 results try to get a faster cpu, thats when you'll see aleap....but unless the driver is broken from before, this new shouldn't be a leap worth recording
I would grab another program to benchmark with thats not synthetic benchmarks.
I only bench real games
but I'll do 3dmark06 2morrow so I can find my cd key.
-
alright sounds good, and i know what you mean...if i could overclock the cpu like with the nvidia chipset, then i could hit 9000 no problem.

I'm having problems running Left 4 Dead I have the x305 q701 and I just bought the dam game from steam. It always crashes on the 2nd level in the subway when I'm suppose to go to the North or something then I get the blank screen and audio loop and the only way I can shut down is to hold down the power button.
I've read on steam that the remedy for this kind of crash is to turn off processes because of not enough paged memory or something like that I'm not sure how to turn processes off or how to turn them back on if I do and which ones to turn off.
Can someone please walk me through this cause I'm fricken pissed I wasted money and time downloading this dumb game. -
not enough page file?
go to the vista orb, type in system, look for "System" and click on that...click on advanced properties to the left. make sure ur on the advanced tab and by performance click settings...click on advanced and check ur page filing for drivers..if its above 4gb then ur fine.
ending processes would be going to task manager, looking at whats running, and just ending the ones that u know...ex windows media player, etc..
but how many running processes are there on the bottom left?
and how much memory is being used on the bottom right? -

Meh
I jjust ordered a p9600 from ebay for 200$ so hopefully that iwll increase my source, benchmarks and we'll see what it does for 3dmark. -
Hello. Im new here. Got my Qosmio last September for university, studying video game design and use 3D studio a lot, which is processor heavy when rendering. Which comes to my first downfall of the laptop, been reading this thread a lot and just going to post some components and would really appreciate if people could say if they would work or not in the laptop. I have a x300-11S btw.
- First of all does this one have an extra slot for an extra hard drive?
- Which would be the best and most powerful processor to upgrade to?
- Lastly, if I could find somehwere that sold a 9800m gtx sli card, would it be compatable with my laptop?
If I am wrong about anything please correct me.
thanks in advance
Jamgeo -
Yes, there is another spot for a secondary hard drive...since you do 3d work, i suggest the 500gb 7200.5 rpm drive from seagate..
and the best processor would be a qx9300, which is a 2.53ghz quad core..but thats too expensive...otherwise theres the dual core 3.06ghz x9100.
but with those cpu's, the gpu would be the bottleneck, and unless you can find a 9800m gtx that matches the proprietary slot used by toshiba, you cannot upgrade....and you cant get 9800's in sli either, especially since you dont have an nvidia chipset and you would need 2 9800's and the sli cable, plus the right drivers...so its either 9800m gtx or bust. -
try 700/1100/1900 and use memset to lower your timings to 7-6-6-16....im sure you can score near 8800-8900..
and with a p9500, you would get near 9500-9800. -
well the the P9600, is clocked 600 mhz higher, I think we should see more improvement I think
, I'm estimating 9000-11000 with the Oced card, especially since it has a higher cache count
-
Many thanks man
Currently looking at a 320 gb hdd from seagate off Newegg.
Dont think I ill have much luck for a while looking for a 9800m GTX.
Found a few x9100's that i like the look of, this processor would definately work for me?
Thanks again aswell
-
your welcome
yep, make sure you get a 7200rpm drive...
and yes, the processor would definitely work...it should rip through tasks quite easily, and really won't produce any more heat than you current processor...so its perfect. i also suggest getting arctic silver 5 for around $5 on newegg and applying that to the cpu and heatsink when u install...u can even apply it to the graphics card i believe. i havent taken apart this computer, but there are a few people who have...hopefully they can give u some insights and any guides they might have. -
Would anyone be able to recomned the best drivers for the qosmio x305-q706 and how to properly install them? The new ones from nvidia don't work and the only ones I can find of toshiba site are 2 months old. I also can't get any driver off laptopvideo2go to work properly. It seems like nothing supports this laptop's 3 gpu deal
Please help
-
To jamgeo, and in response to Dude55. Those options will increase multi tasking performance, and to a degree, even gaming performance. Noticeably when loading games, and especially when using post- processing effects. As for the Arctic Silver 5 application, keep in mind that it is an EXCELLENT conductive paste, so apply about a grain of rice worth to the cpu, and the same applies to the gpu(s). It should give you the impression that there is an insufficient amount(thats how you know the amount is correct), as it's true use is only to fill in almost microscopic gaps between the cpu, and the heat-sink/heat pipe. Keep this advice near and dear, and you should not have any problems gaming hardcore on your upgraded setup.
-
From my experience w/ x2 GPU on other Intel notebooks, you will be able to install it especially since the slot and space is there on even the Q701 version. It will just run in non SLI dual GPU multi monitor mode wich will be fine for video editing work anyways. The 9800M GTS card is a complete drop in replacement for the single. You may need to add another fan to keep cool.
Again, this is a good guess but I have not found one to test. -
The PM45 Express Chipset, supports full Crossfire X, so if you can find a dual 3870, 4850, or 4870( which is slim at best) you could have Multi-gpu performance. The only reason that Nvidia's card wont do SLi on non-Nvidia chipsets, is a choice made solely by Nvidia through drivers. The Intel X58 chipset supports full SLI, because Nvidia and Intel came to an agreement. I would imagine that the same is true in this case, as it's not a question of bandwidth( there is plenty there), just Nvidia trying to secure a competitive edge in the chipset market by forcing consumers to use an Nvidia chipset to support SLI.
-
So I would be able to use sli on my laptop? Which card would you recommend?
-
No, you cant use sli, because Nvidia has that locked down through drivers to only work on Nvidia chipsets, except for the Intel X58 chipset.
-
Ahhhhh. Ok. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll get a 9800m gtx and an x9100 CPU soon. Probably when I get my next student loan LOL. Will post the results here though. Many thanks to you all, will probably come back with some more questions in the near future LOL
-
No, not on an Intel based mobo. As I stated, you can install it and run it as dual GPU (two indepemdent) and maybe quad display for video editing.
Yes, nVidia is the one locking out this function through firmware. It has and likely again, can be hacked to work as it did the early days of
SLI w/ the 6800 ultra cards on !975X.
However, ATI is now in the works on Crossfire for mobile gaming. most likely 1st to appear on Alienware (M17) and ASUS but will be 1stt an MXM compliant slot. So hopefully Toshiba will offer a retail model equipped with one of these 4870 x2 cards and it should have the Toshiba proprietary slot to install on our current PM45 notebooks.
Just my "2" cents. -
And a valuable 2 cents it is. I have a Crossfire X(mobile crossfire) solution in my whitebook. It has an MXM 2.1 compliant setup, with one master slot, and one slave slot. Which is why I am waiting for the 4870s. Currently it has two Mobility HD3870s in crossfire.
-
i am not sure toshiba will go the ati route..if they do, they will most likely alter the chipset of the qosmio...nevertheless, from my observations toshiba doesnt appear to be a major ati fan, only incorporating their graphics cards in the lower end satellite models and other lower end models.
-
Thats the beauty of it all, unless the Qosmio uses an Nvidia chipset, it can use an ATi card. My whitebook has the exact same chipset as the Qosmio X305-Q701, only mine uses the two ati cards. The PM45 Express chipset is a good chipset for performance.
-
then i need to find "me" some 2 4870's or something and just steal some drivers somewhere
but that proprietary slot -
hmmm interesting to know this is upgradeable (GPU-wise), nothing wrong with the 9700m GTS, a 4850, or something along those lines would be great though.

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
Hey well i havent been on in a while but im just wondering a few things.
I have an x300 from canada with vista 64 bit. I want to dualboot with xp. To be honest, i downloaded the black edition for free as i cant find my xp cd.
Now is it possible on this laptop? Can we get drivers for xp 32 bit? It doesnt matter if its not factory or anything, just so i can have xp.
Also, did they fix the slow vista startup? I know im not the only one with the 2 minute " please wait" message.
Right now, i want to erase the hd, as i did. Now i want to put xp on firt because its easier to dualboot with xp first. I want to do this only if i can get the drivers. If i can, i want to install vista, but not from the recovery cd. Ill probably buy the vista OS and get the drivers off of the site.
Is there also a way to not install all the bloatware if i use the recovery cd?
Thanks. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
And just skimming through the pages, can we now upgrade the 9700mgts and the 7350 cpu? When i was on this forum in november, there was 15 pages and we couldnt upgrade the laptop, can we now??
Thanks -
I have no idea about the GPU really, i would assume that since toshiba offers a 9800m GTX in a higher end model, that would also work with this model since theyare the same thing apart from a few changes.
And any socket P CPU should work, its just a b*tch to take the whole thing apart. -
One question guys.
I need to use de recovery partition to recover my system, if i use "Recovering the original factory image (recommended recovery method)" this method will erase the recovery partition? or i need to use "Recovering the C: partition of the HDD without changing the current partition size".
I dont want to erase the recovery partition.
(Sorry for my bad english) -
Yes you certainly dual boot, but I would use 2 physical drives unless you have experience with boot loaders on sama drive with partitions as it becomes tricky w/ a x86 & x64 on disc. I would guess all the drivers available for Vista 32 are more then available since it is way older, and especially if you go to the components sites. You for sure need to get use of a USB floppy for the f6 AHCI install under any version XP. Unless your blck edition has Intel RAID/AHCI drivers integrated in. As for the slow start up, look at the other tread in here about Vista tricks and tips. But to be honest, cold starts are so rare on modern equipment with use of suspend states such as S3 (sleep) or S4 (hibernate). So the best thing is to use those features since restarting is only needed during certain installs and updates.
-
hi guys, I `ve question .. kind of silly one
how can i scroll down using the touch pad ? ist possible to do that ?
thanks -
Yes it is possible, you need to install the old driver (the original), with the new one I think is not possible.
-
I already dont like this Alps touch pad. I miss the Symantecs on my ASUS. This one, the custom tapping features work barely half the time and when they do, only for windowds folders, not IE7 like w/ Symentecs, and if it does, work, you have to tap so hard but if you relax setting, the rest is so sensitive. Either Alps needs a new driver or can we swap out for a Symanetc pointing device used in another model? I'd go out of my way to order it since this one drives me "nuckin futs".
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well i decided to not dual boot with xp, but instead windwos 7 32-bit. ive installed it and got the video driver, but it says its nvidia x94 or something like that, but it seems to work. i couldnt find any of the special drivers like the media pad, flashcards or anything like that, but i havent really looked. its alot easier to dualboot with vista then windows 7 because you dont have to really do anything except install it.
the only thing i didnt do is make the partition big enough, i only have 4 gb free, but i think theres this program to change the size of the partition without erasing it. i forget what its called. but if someone can direct me to it, that would be great.
