    Interesting...
I asked a few shops who sell it, and said it shouldn't be a problem... but it seems to be a more complicated then I was expecting hopefully it will go fine with your upgrade.

it's already a good rating, but hoping to improve mine as well, besides I noticed that under stress the Toshiba stays amazingly cool putting the proc. under 100% load for 15 min did not raise the temp above 45 degrees.

    Edit:
I have the 1.9 bios aswell

Personally i think we should have no problem using/running a qx9300, the problem lies in as dude55 stated Toshiba has made the x300/x305 a btch to upgrade, you have to strip the whole laptop apart and this is whats got me thinking twice. Too late tho as i've already ordered the qx9300.

Yeah it's certainly not going to be easy, opening it, Toshiba does not seem to like people changing things.

and if you do destroy something going to be a hassle to get the spare parts.

as far as takeing this thing apart if u are handy its not to hard 2 things i would say is get the best thermal paste u can norm only 10-15$ tops so go fort he gold the stuff toshiba usess as standard is junk u get 10-15 deg C drop just from the paste second is a static wrist gaurd .. it is just a wrist band with a eath cable u attach to any of the eathed points on the MB easy to see if u are a handy person

as for a disasembly guide i used this 1

    http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v720/christopherquinalty/Qosmio X305-Q701 disassembly/

i used that as a guide of what to do next i kept notes of every screw i removed and in what order to make putting it back together easier.

i concider my self handy not a tech boffen and found it simple if u are worried about doing it most comp stores will fit it for u for a fee just make a few calls around ur local area and ask for a price what can it hurt..

Okay, I think they are same then...

    EDIT;
I have done a bit re-search, and read at toshiba forums, they say x300/5 has no raid support, only dual HDD. This is what I cal FAIL! No Raid form bios. "We" must use other "tools/softwares". This was the last thing, now no more Toshiba laptops or Toshiba products...
PS: Someone has given adress to this site on Toshiba forums lol :D

Maybe I'm wrong, please let me know (I hope I'm wrong :D)

    Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this forum and a potential X300 owner but need everyone's expertise:

I want to buy a used-ex returned model X300-033 (Model PQX32C-033019) from a local Futureshop (Bestbuy) but was worried that the inner guts of the Qosmio X300 maybe swapped out with inferior parts by the first buyer...

The store opened up the RAM and HD covers on the Laptop for me to jot down the info and I was hoping that some of you can tell me if these are the same on your "new" original X300s:

    (1) RAM CHIPs: Hynix (Korea 08) 2GB 2RX8 PC3-8500S7-10-FI
    HMT125S6AFP8C-G7NOAA

? I thought Toshiba had their own RAM Chips in the laptop??

    (2) HD: There is no label or info on the HD.. only a sticker with
    "AM041000400YDMK0A089F"
In Device Manager, the drive comes up as "Toshiba MK3252GSX"

    (3) When Laptop booted up, Control Panel shows Intel P8400, 2.26 Ghz with 4 GB RAM and GeForce 9700M GTS Card. I can not find any info on the P8400 setup and from Toshiba.ca site, the current X300s have P7350 to P7450 Cores... Is the P8400 Core legit??

    (4) There is no finger pad reader on the laptop... Is this standard on the machine or an option?

    (5) The DVD Drive only has "DVD Multi Recorder" label on it...
In Device Manager under DVD/CD Drives, the drive comes up as
    " HL - DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA T50N"

? Isn't the DVD drive a "Super Multi Double layer"? Why doesn't it say anywhere that it plays 11 formats??

    (6) System loaded with Vista Home Premium OEM... How do I know it is 64 bit or the 32 bit version? The Microsoft Sticker on the bottom of the laptop looks washed out with the first upc bar almost completely rubbed out.... Computer guy said that its due to the heat of the machine??
Do you recommend upgrade to Vista Ultimate?

    (7) Lastly, I know that the 320 GBHD comes with preloaded software on it and it is a separate partition... However, Control Panel shows total size of C: to be only 290GB. Where or how can I find the other partition to see if total adds up to 320 GB? What is the total size available for many of your machines?

    Sorry for the long post....

BTW, The machine is $1300 Cdn. and I have it on hold until Saturday April 18th.

Maybe I'm a worry wart, but I just don't want to be stuck with a machine that did not have all of the original "guts" in it and I don't think Futureshop Techs are the smartest guys on the Planet...

I really appreciate all of your feedbacks that will give me comfort in making my decision to buy the used X300 or not...

    Thanks again for your inputs.

    Regards.

-the laptop has the correct parts.
-the p8400 is stock for the X300-033.
-and no toshiba doesnt have to have their own chips, i have samsung chips in mine.
-to find total partition size, go to computer management
-to find out 64 bit or 32 bit, go to system information or system properties, or download pcwizard, tells you everything you want to know
-fingerprint readers arent too standard on larger laptops, usually smaller travel laptops
-the dvd drive is correct in the naming
-hd has no label, just cage, black plastic, etc. toshiba mk is an official toshiba drive

and how much is $1300 cdn to usd?

Yeah i just upgraded to bios 2.10 but can't find any info on what's new.
BIOS (WINDOWS VERSION) BIOS 2.10 Windows 32bit BIOS Update 2.4 MB PQX32A_BIOS_W210_32B.exe
BIOS (WINDOWS VERSION) BIOS 2.10 Windows 64bit BIOS Update 2.3 MB PQX32A_BIOS_W210_64B.exe

I see all the toshiba qosmio x305 driver updates on the US website is still showing bios 1.90.

Done the upgrade anyway as my qx9300 should arrive early next week ready for installation.

If anyone can find out whats new in bios 2.10 please post

    RE: 8GB memory.

I've see that Toshiba's official spec sheet says 4GB, but the chipset (Intel PM45 Express) supports up to 8GB DD3. Good to know it works in these machines, no BIOS issues etc.
    .................................................................................................

so maybe we can 8 gig these puppys

I know at least 6 GB works, tried one 4gb chip that came back from a client ..
still way to expensive for me to buy it..

but it gave me the chance to try it out :) had no problem still on vista 32 bit tough so further then detecting it, it has no perf increase.

What drivers are you guys using in your x300/305?

Im currently with dox's 182.46 and they give me the best performance (10250 stock 3dmark06). The current whql nvidias are also good performers, but give me black screen crashes even when gpu is relatively cool. The official toshiba ones are the most stable, but unfortunately newer games have an annoying stutter with them.

    So what's everyone else' recommendations?

Hi All! My first posting. I'm up and running with a PQX31C-01G022 (X300-01G)
I put a Philips-LiteON DS-4E1S BlueRay drive in, and what fun. Also, Crysis is running beautifully on high. One thing of note: contrary to some posting I've seen, the SPDIF out is indeed fiber optic, the mini. I've been able to run HDMI to a monitor, and SPDIF out to a Denon receiver simultaneously. Power DVD helped with that. Certainly the Qosmio wants to send audio only down HDMI, when connected, but it can be changed. Let me know if anyone has any issues setting up blueray, as I've solved a couple. Tim

I tried these drivers but didn't really notice any difference in 3dmark06 stock scores. I also noticed when using these drivers the fan on the gpu you can slightly hear reving up and down ever so faint (which was driving me mad) . So i went back to the normal 185.68 from laptoptogo. No problems rev up and down disappeared.

The only complaint i've ever had with Dox's drivers is that they are extremely unstable overclockers. Display driver stops responding half way through 3dmark test with a 10% OC, although max temp reached is 75C... i guess ill try vanilla 185.68 now.

Ok everyone just upgraded to qx9300 from t9550 it went smoothly except my fingerprinter isn't working now,but i think i forgot to put the ribbon back on. (Weekend fix)

Now just to mention as ppl here suggesting/thinking about the cooler if it will fit or not on a qx9300, here is a screen dump comparing the cpu and the x305 cpu cooler let me just say it just fits. My temps are only 2C more than my t9550. Could change after my AS5 settles.

    http://img511.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc01422k.jpg

Also while i had the whole thing apart i thought i'll change the gpu thermal paste to AC5 and guess what my temps have increased by about 6c.

Give it a little hard pull, it should just come off here is a screen so you can see what it looks like, also my temps are starting to settle now gpu 41,42

    http://img206.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc01424i.jpg

    http://img206.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc01423x.jpg

Look at all that yuk stuff they put on gpu

    Good luck

Oh to give ppl an idea of the difference in performance from t9550 to qx9300
3Dmark06 has now gone to 11430 with qx9300 9800m gtx where as before i was getting 10480 with t9550 all stock.

Full credit to the guy that put up the guide to disassemble x305 you know who u are cq842000 :)

Also i think i'll make another guide thats more detailed as there is a lot of fiddly bits that need to be mentioned for eg the ribbon conectors need to be pulled out for the ribbon release, what screws need to be unscrewed from the motherboard and to mention that the motherboard doesn't fully get removed due to the power connector etc

    Thanks

and i dont think im gonna open up the toshiba unless im upgrading a cpu, but that might be in 2 years...ive had enough with this...so much work just to get to the GPU.

but those guides will help other people, so it would be a good idea to make one.

Currently working on placing a copper sheet on GPU and heatshield will let you know the outcome results temps wise. I'm finding my GPU under heavy load is getting a little too hot even at stock. It seems there is a gap between the cooler and gpu that needs to get filled.

update: only used a medium copper sheet from any craft shop or hobby shop just for testing : under load temps dropped 10c idle only 3c still better than nothing here are some screens of the copper sheet on the gpu :)
New 1mm thick copper sheet should arrive next week will update on that.

thanks that gives me any idea on what to expect mines at 41c (105 far) idle and 85c (185 far) load with the copper sheet where as before stock i was getting 44c (111 far) idle and heavy load max i saw was 95c (203 far).
No cooler just laptop rested on a wooden table. Maybe i should invest in this nyco cooler seems to keep temps down.

Not sure if the 9700m runs cooler, why i asked tunqy was his also running a 9800m gtx.

    thanks

When i removed the old thermal paste from the gpu there was so much of it, it wasn't funny just to be safe i added a copper sheet incase of any gap between the cooler and gpu its sort of a more snug secure tight fit. Very happy with the result temps seem to have come down a little more as the AS5 sets in.

    Hi :)
My GPU is at 53C right now, idle. Min temp at idle is 34C and max is 60C
    Core Clock 200MHz
    Memory Clock 100MHz
    (it downcolck it self :D)

I'm not sure about load, becouse I have been busy whole week. I have no logs rather for load. :(
But I can try to play some games ofcourse :D, Max I remember is 95 C with O.C (Show at my sig)
But I saw that only for one time, it is usually not so high :D

the copper is meant to transfer and dissipate the heat and therefore lower temperatures and keep the laptop running cooler.

i notice you were talking about the copper mod and i have some questions.
is there a certain kind needed. does it have to be thick or thin. i already see how to apply it but does it need to be big over the cpu or just right and how much difference did everyone see from doing this mod. also would you recommend doing this mod.

I used a 0.05mm thick one, an yes it has to cover the gpu size, personal choice as to do this. Only reson i did it was ppl were getting very good results in the dell xps m1330 thread so i said why not.

    good luck
