ha yea i would have waited for the SLI, but they didnt tell us anything, even their best model at the time, which was 3,500$, only had 1 9800M GTX, so i wouldnt suspect anything with SLI, and if it was, then no less than 3,000$, nevermind less than 2,000$

yeah, for sure. well, there is ultimately nothing that you can do now. I am sure that u cant return it, or can u?

Dude55 I can't find the toshiba recovery disc creator anymore. I was fiddling around with ccleaner and I tried the registery option where it's suppose to analyze your registry and fix any probs but I was scared to go ahead and fix whatever problem it found and as I was looking through what needed to be fixed it said something about the toshiba recovery disc creator was an unused extension so that got me looking for the icon and now I can't find it I searched for it in the start menu but when it takes me to it I can't find an executable to run it.
So my questions are what's the registery option do in ccleaner? How do I create another set of recovery discs? and How am I suppose to use the recovery discs I already made? Thanks and if anyone else can help with these questions I'd appreciate it. -
I believe it is a onetime option, where if you use the Recovery Disk Creator once it will no longer be available. At least that is what happened to me on my Gateway laptop. I hope this helps. God Bless -
ccleaner prompts you to save backup your registry before it cleans it, its a very good tool so dont be afraid to use it
-
Oh thanks jdeluna and potentv. Although I still need to understand this better. Jdeluna how am I suppose to recover from the hard drive or from the recovery disks, sorry but I'm not real computer literate. And potentv I know it prompts me if I want to back up the registry and I've read that in order to get the registry back I'd have to click on something and then click merge and I've never done this before and won't be sure were to find the file since it says it usually goes to my documents but I'm afraid I won't be able to find it. I'll probably just try and give it a shot but what exactly does this registry thing do and if I choose not to repair the problems what are the consequences? Thanks again people
-
Well, the more things you install on your computer, the larger your registry will get. The registry saves many changes and options of your computer, almost everything you do affects the registry, just to see how many changes happen to your registry, install spybot search and destroy with the teatimer, it gets very annoying and is perfectly normal that the registry is changed so often.
The more things you do on your computer, the more cluttered your registry will become. CCleaner just tidies the registry up, Ive used it countless times, each with a backup and have never had a problem. It can however remove unused file extensions and many other things and I have removed them without any problem, when I try to open that file type again, it is recreated in the registry. It has never caused me any harm.
I would be very very surprised if your recovery disk creater cant be used again, I wont declare it impossible but I would be very surprized. Besides, if anything does make a turn for the worse, the System Restore option that vista has is very useful.
You dont need to worry about these things mate -
-
Yes, I'd suggest saving it in my documents and create a folder called Registry Backups. Then, once you back it up, you can open the folder, and if u right click, and click merge, it just goes in there and thats it. it is still in your folder as well. so, trust me, use ccleaner. it does not remove any entries that can hazardous, as it doesnt does this haphazardly.

I have mixed feelings on SLI, but I dont want to get into the performance arguments but just the cost sli normally adds to a price, the size it very often adds, the weight it very often adds.
I need to take my babies to work so thats kind of out of the question for me, besides can you really see a difference in crysis at high or very high? For me, its too small to care -

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
wow well i thought that mine had 2 all along, if we actually look inside them, there is only one fan inside. the other is just a vent i think, i can actually see what i think is the motherboard.
i think it could have 2, but ares doesnt have alot of power, so it may not need 2. if we had say quad core and SLI, then yes, it should need 2.
i dont know for sure, but this is what im thinking.
also, did u say your overheats? what does it get to? my gpu maxes at 65 degrees in games, cpus max at 55 and HD max at 43 degrees.
i thought that it had 2 all along, but i guess it doesnt need it. it has alot of room in there, and not maxed out in power.
i built my own cooler with 2 fans blowing air into both of the holes, and my gpu doesnt go over 50 degrees -
The heatsink must be mounted right because the temp rises very slowly.
I noticed the fan does not spin as fast as the first 2 seconds when you press the power switch at these temps either, seems to be around 80% speed?
The funny thing is my CPU does not ever go over 50C even when running ORTHOS for an hour. I have the 2.4GHZ p8600. -
I am quite perplexed now. It appears that it is my mistake and the system only has 1 fan!!! Right next to it is the same vent, but no fan and then the subwoofer behind both of them.
and the highest ive seen my temps are:
in farenheit by the way
CPU: 163
GPU 155
HD 118
I ran Prime 95, and nvidia geoforms with my stable clocks in my sig for about an hour and a half and that was what i got. i didnt elevate anything, just on a flat table.
and jacob, since the newer qosmios incorporate SLI, it is definitely possible for ours as long as there is no motherboard limitation or difference, which i am quite sure there isn't. there are only 2 problems:
1. obtaining a 9700m gts
2. obtaining the proper cables and screws to connect them with SLi
You could try contacting toshiba, but they may not have a clue or an answer that would be appropriate as their sales reps or tech support is just based on answering more simple questions. last time i called tech support, i was like 5
so i dont deal with those guys. but, SLi would be cool but not easy to have/get.
And check this out:
http://explore.toshiba.com/laptops/qosmio/x305/x305-Q708
that is the x305-q708. it is a beast but there are problems:
1. $4200??????????!!!!!
2. 1440x900 res
3. SLi 9800m GTS's, not GT's or GTX's
So, i dont think that this laptop is worth it. it is too costly and the screen res just ruins the whole deals completely!!!!
by the way, it can be purchased directly from www.Toshibadirect.com as well.
also, has anyone used any of my tips and checked out 3dmark 06 for benchmarks????? -
at 1440x900 resolution
Ive hit the limit on my gpu for overclocking, Anymore than the above and the driver stops responding and the game crashes -
ah, those clocks are kinda low. but still, it varies from GPU to GPU. they are still good.
and what are your specs? they cant be the same as mine. There is no way someone can beat my score with the same q701 as mine. -
-
oh yeah, definitely. i was about to say, cause im already 1000 past stock scores without anything overclocked and this was when i first got it.
weeks and weeks later and hours of work, i built this thing from the ground up. i am close to a gateway p7811's stock score of 8700. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
wow that thing is pretty sweet, but the screen is too low.
about the overclocking, is it safe in the laptop? will it reduce the life of any part of the laptop at all? im not too woried as this thing can support SLI and such. -
well, it will reduce the life of the components, but minimally, especially if the temperatures are fine. I think if your temps are above 175, then its too high. But, you can overclock, just dont run those clocks at startup, just load them maunally from nvidia system tools performance before you play a game, do benchmarks, or something like that.
-
glary utilities is a great tool to have
-
Yeah, but I have not used it. If you would like me to add it, just tell me exactly how good it is and what is does. (a brief review)
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
whats the driver for the media bar? i want to reinstall it, thanks.

Its in the Value added package.
-
Also, It is in My computer, C:, Tosapins

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
ok well ive tried everything to get the boot back up to speed, but it seems to get slower and slower. i also have alot of **** on here that i dont need, so im gonna do a fresh restore of vista, but dont really know how to do it.
if i use the recovery program, it says i need 2 dvds (4.7GB each) what exactly does it save to it? is it like files only?
i want to save all games, and some programs. since i dont have the cd and downloaded all games (torrents) i think im going to have to burn them to a dvd.
i also have microsoft office enterprise that i also dont have a cd for.
i pretty much transfered all my files from my desktop, but since its broken, i dont have a backup.
any help would be great. thanks -
Well, if you've tried my programs, at least the ones that "clean up" the pc, then a restore of vista may work.
I would do the recovery program and burn the DVD's. But just in case i would get an external and back everything up. I'm not exactly sure how this works since I never had to do it, but i will update this later on, around 3-4 hours. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
alright thanks, that external sounds like a good idea.
and ive tried alot of stuff, even the thing you sent me in a pm. ccleaner works pretty good, but theres no noticable performance difference. ive ran alot of virus programs, ad aware , and error programs and havent found 1 error on the computer.
so ill probably try and get an external HD. is usb the way to go, because i know our computer has alot of other ports, i just dont know whats for what. -
Yes, the best external will be 7200RPM and have at least 50GB more than your hard drive capacity. It should also have eSATA, because it allows for the fastest transferring speeds. You also need an eSATA cable. Here are 3 good 500GB 7200RPM eSATA externals:

I'm debating between this laptop (Q706 configuration) and the 7811FX from Gateway. I just may lean towards the Gateway, as right now I only play WoW (which does not, by ANY means, tax the 9800GTS!) but what still holds me in debate is the upgrade ability and SLI in the X305.
I would like to think that the flames/color design wouldn't be a problem, but part of me knows that my friends would laugh at me when I pulled it out. On the other hand, this would stay on the desk and my Gateway MP8708 (once fixed) will be my travel/work laptop (at least until I can get an ultraportable).
My questions:
Anyone tear the keyboard off this thing yet? I'd like to get some sort of pad behind the right side of it, as that flex just bothered me when I typed on it. Is there room and is there something stable behind it to support such padding?
The low-res screen: I need HD. There's even less excuse to not have a WUXGA screen than there is to not have a blu-ray drive! I've read one reviewer (on some other site) mention he pulled the HD screen from another computer (his HP, I think) and it worked in the X305. Anyone else try this?
Support: I've only ever used support when I knew I had to get a replacement device/unit. I'll do everything else, thank you very much. However, what does it take to void the warranty? Are there silly stickers covering screws to show that I cracked the case?
I'm thinking the screen resolution may be the thing that wins me over (and it'd save me $600 too) to the 7811FX. I'd sacrifice the option to upgrade, I think, for the hi-res screen. -

I believe that there is some room. you can cut out some foam and put it in there.

nope. and there is no blu ray drive on this thing so no problems with that here.

no, there are no stickers like that. you can successfully it apart without messing with any stickers, as far as i know.

Well, I ordered the 701 at the $999.99 price in the link above. I figure, for half the price, I can live with a 9700 and 120GB less hdd space! Should be getting it Tuesday or Thursday next week!
-
Congratulations! You just basically stole it. It literally is 33% off! i got mine for $1400 from $1550 3 months ago.
And feel free to add another hard drive if you really want more space. follow my guide on page 1 to configure it. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well im just wondering about this;
since i updated my gpu drivers, my gpu temp is alot lower, but my cpu is alot hotter.
it just hit 80degrees C while multitasking! it never went over 55, now its at 80. is this bad?? -
Too bad canada BB still sells x300 for $1699.
-
80C is very cool. I believe the thermal shutdown is 105C. Hope this helps. God Bless -

hey guys im looking for the qosmio backgrounds that came with the computer.
its the ones that came with the laptop, and says qosmio in the middle, theres a red one i want in particular. ive looked everywhere for them and i dont know where they went
does anyone know where they could be, thanks. -
I never got any Qosmio backgrounds on my computer.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well when you first boot it up, you can choose which one you want. there was a red one that looked like the lid.
its actually the one thats shown in the review on this site. -
where when you first boot it up?
under personalize -> desktop backgrounds? -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
yea i know how to change it but their not on the computer anymore.

okay well id thought i would post a link to my thread i made a month or so ago. it has pics of the x300 and a cooler that i made.

and heres a link to all the pics that i have of it, and the cooler i made, which really helps

nice cooler idea. i need to get something like that for when im at home, but my temps dont go high, never above 160 for the cpu, 155 for the gpu. since i have 2 hard drives, the hd temps are much higher, by about at least 5-10 degrees since heat transfers to the other hard drive. they shouldnt have the hard drives right on top of each other, but separate like on a gateway p7811.
-
Fortunately this : http://www.evercool.com.tw/products/nb_fa.htm does by 50F -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
yea i didnt want to buy one because i wanted to get the vents lined up right.
it brings my temps down alot, and my gpu doesnt go above 50c, HD above 40c and the cpu no higher than 55c -
Yeah, its a decent idea. what would make it better is if you can smooth out the rough edges.
-
do you think we can buy the second fan somewhere to put it into the empty place?
