    I live in Canada too, and have been wanting to upgrade my P7350 to a T9600 and not many options up here but check this site a friend told me about. If you can afford it and want to order a T9600 check out www.ncix.com and the direct link to T9600 http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=41307&vpn=BX80576T9600&manufacture=Intel

    Now, on this topic, can anyone help me out... is that cost (just over $400 including taxes and shipping) is it worth that price to go from a P7350 to T9600? Would the improvement be enough to justify the cost? (X305-Q705 is my system)

    What are you guys with Intel chipsets getting for WEI memory performance with Windows 7? I think the Nvidia chipset is causing latency problems maybe it's the shared memory and I need more?

    I flashed my BIOS to 1.70 today from the UK support site, does anybody know what that BIOS version offers?

    I have updated my bios to the 1.70, this are the ''improvements'' that appear on the US site:
    Version 1.70 - 2009-10-17
    •Updated the NVMM to 79B2P110.
    •Updated the SMU to 9502.
    •Updated the Lojack ROM file for Windows 7.
    •Fixed: Brightness doesn't work In performance mode in Windows 7.
    •Fixed: BSOD 0x7E during installation of the Windows 7 check build edition.

    Away from the theme, i have the Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q706, the saturday i got it from repair, because the motherboard fried. But now everything works good, only my ethernet dont works (is detected, but i tried differents drivers and nothing works), windows give me the Code 10, in ubuntu works fine the ethernet but in windows not, i tried updating the bios and the turning off/on from the bios but didnt work. The problem from my point is that the ethernet dont works fine with windows, i dont want to take it to support because they took too much day to resolve a problem like this (the motherboard was 15 days), somebody has an idea to solve it?

    My brother ordered a Dell Studio 17, so im gonna use the OS disc when i receive the notebook, but like right now i dont have the OS disc and my recovery dont works, i can only navigate via WiFi*

    Sorry for my bad english :(

    I have not tested my ethernet since upgrading to Windows 7 RTM but it worked with the release candidate. Have you tried installing the chipset drivers from Nvidia? The ethernet driver is in the chipset driver package.

    I had used the drivers from recovery, toshiba website and nvidia, but nothing works. Yesterday i used ubuntu and the ethernet was fine, so its not an hardware problem, is from windows only

    I have still not upgraded to Windows7 :eek:

    I just checked the norwegian support side, and they have updated they driver section Windows7 (x86 and x64) drivers are available!
    I'm now downloading them, and I think I am going to update (to Win7) soon.

    I'm going to keep you updated!

    Well, I went ahead and got the T9600 and installed it. So far so good, I am happy with the purchase. I figured everyone else posting the WEI Scores I will too. I took a pic of after I installed the T9600 but don't have one from prior, but I do remember the numbers so I will just type them out. My system is an X305-Q705.

    WEI Scores for Windows 7 x64:
    P7350 (original):
    Processor=5.5
    Memory=5.8
    Graphics=6.5
    Gaming graphics=6.5
    Primary hard disk=5.8

    T9600:
    Processor=6.4
    Memory=6.4
    Graphics=6.6
    Gaming graphics=6.6
    Primary hard disk=5.8

    Well, I am going to update soon (and post my score)

    I am pretty sure the Intel chipset produces better memory performance than the Nvidia chipset. My WEI memory score and Everest memory benchmarks were the same with P8400 as with the Q9200. Nvidias chipset drivers are notoriously sucky, if anyone has a Qosmio with Nvidia chipset do not install the Nvidia storage drivers from the chipset package. The HDD or SSD performance will be much better with Microsoft SATA drivers.

    I found a wholesaler that has the Q9200 ES Processor at 160$ ea, although the minimum order is 5.

    Would any of you be interested in doing a group buy for it?

    I would be willing to facilitate it and front half the cost for each and the remaining half when I receivce the processor from the wholesaler and have it ready to ship.

    Let me know what you guys think!

    Any questions feel free to give me a call - 541-306-8674

    Thats the same point I am at, There was someone else in this thread that had great success using the Q9200 ES, over clocked to 2.77 GHZ stable.

    Its a hard processor to find though.

    Hoping we can get several of us one, would be sweet!

    What Q9200 ES are you looking at for $160, QAVR or QAJF? Be careful because I have heard the QAJF does not have temperature sensors

    I just sent an e-mail to confirm the build model.

    ShirlyCPU did not have any of them listed on her site yesterday.

    Hope they are QAVR, but we'll see!

    Hey everyone my performance numbers for Windows 7 seem to be off, why is it that the 2 other people that posted Pics on Page 216 have over 6 in graphics, like 6.5, and I have 5.7?
    Any drivers people can recommend here? I still am using Dox's 185.68.

    Are you using the release candidate or the retail version? My graphics score with the RC was 6.0 and with the RTM it is 7.1 with the 191.07 display drivers and 6.7 with the display drivers from Toshiba.

    Hmm I see because my scoring is as follows:

    CPU: 5.5
    RAM: 5.9
    Graphics: 5.9
    Gaming Graphics: 5.7
    Primary Hard Disk: 5.7

    I am using Dox's 185.68 drivers which have also given me my 8825 3DMarks 06 score as well.

    And SGilmore, what drivers would you say has worked the best for you? Perhaps given you the highest 3DMarks 06 score? Also Tunay, I see that you are using the drivers Nvidia recommends on their site. I am trying to figure out what drivers to use, or what is causing my scoring to be so darn low. I will soon be getting a 640GB Western Digital HD to replace one of my 200GB drives. I have also noticed that with time the hard drive gets slower. Anyone else experience this?

    And I am using Windows Ultimate 64 Bit Retail Version.

    Hey Dude, my highest 3dmark06 score was with 190.62. I would be more worried about my RAM score if I was you. Intel chipset with 4gb DDR3 1066 should get 6.4 at least,

    My SSD works fine with Windows 7. Wonder if I should upgrade my RAM to 2x2gb 5-5-5-15 Kingston Hyper X or just swap one of the 7-7-7-20 2gb modules with a similarly clocked 4gb module?

    Sorry for "resurrecting" this old post, but I'm very interested in this.

    Did you actually benchmark Nvidia Storage Drivers vs Ms SATA Drivers performance?

    I have installed the Nvidia storage drivers. But I will uninstall them if you noticed SATA performance is better with Windows default sata drivers.

    EDIT: about your low WEI score for memory, I'm having the exact same issue on Nvidia chipset... 5.9 is kinda low.

    Did you try lowering your timings using Ntune? I didn't, but I surely will try soon.

    Yes I have benchmarked with and without the Nvidia storage drivers. I probably never would have noticed it but I bought an SSD and the performance was less than half of advertised spec. Three days later I found the problem to be The Nvidia storage driver. Nvidia storage driver is recommended only for RAID setups and since Toshiba has no BIOS options for RAID--thats out of the question.

    Memory latency is much lower with Intel chipset thats why even DDR2 systems have better memory performance than our DDR3 with Nvidia chipset.

    I have tried lowering timings with NST but the benefits have been miniscule and besides I don't really know what I am doing. If I knew what to adjust I might get somewhere with it but I don't and there is so much trial and error that it's not worth it.

    I see. I will try uninstalling Nvidia storage drivers and see if anything changes :)

    Anyway, I tried lowering memory timings and:

    1) WEI score was still 5.9, even at 7-6-6-18.
    2) Memtest detected a lot of errors with those timings @1200mhz (no errors on stock timings)
    3) Lowering them to even 7-5-6-18 caused a system crash.

    I suppose lowering the timings isn't a solution at all. I think a higher amount of memory would raise the WEI score for memory, but the latency problem would still be there.

    I have no doubt that you will see better performance with the Microsoft SATA drivers. Go to device manager and right click on nforce serial ata controller and select uninstall>check the box, delete drivers for this device>you will be prompted to reboot a couple of times then device manager will look like this.

    Already did so, and it feels like the HDDs are somehow faster at reading data :)

    This didn't affect my HDD WEI score, but I suppose one shouldn't rely on WEI that much...

    Hi everyone,

    I have been lurking around for about a year now and this thread has been a valuable source of information. thank you for that.

    I have x300-11s and it is missing one of the fans inside. So I get from the earlier discussion somewhere in this thread that it's pretty easy to add one.
    Ebay seems to have some but x300/x305 ones aren't shipping to Europe.

    So can I just get some other Toshiba fan (earlier qosmio model F25/F10) and install that?

    Thanks

    Does anyone know how to update the system DMI information on a Toshiba X305-Q711? It seems to be write protected or something. When I had my motherboard replaced, the dmi strings return "*" for serial, model, and part number. No tool(s) exist for the public to fix this problem in this model. Even the authorized service center couldn't fix it, nor locate the proper tool in their support extranet which has files that aren't otherwise available to the public.

    I tried used Phlash16 AND WinPhlash64 which allowed me to enter new DMI strings and seemingly wrote them to the BIOS (as the "chip specified" strings now show what I typed in), but in actuality, no changes were made. The strings still show * in Windows, the Toshiba support software, and everything else that reads them.

    I even tried multiple options in WinPhlash including totally wiping the BIOS and rewriting, as opposed to just flashing the DMI strings. Nothing works. I tried used the Phoenix Bios Editor program, but apparently the BIOS is too new for the version I have (2.2.1.3) and not all of the components are extracted, so I can't rebuild the BIOS. What's weird, though, is that the default DMI strings are still different than "*".

    What the heck do you have to do to get the proper strings in the BIOS? Why can't even the service provider do it? I'm not going to send it to the Depot and be without a laptop for weeks, only so they can fix a problem that takes less than 5 minutes with the proper tool.

    Awesome! Thanks a lot! Worked perfectly and took a whole whoppin' 60 seconds, if that. I wasn't quite sure which of the files to run. I just booted into DOS from a bootable usb stick and ran DMI /WP blah blah, DMI /WS serial, etc.

    That's just sad that Toshiba support was of absolutely no help whatsoever, especially after calling like 4 times. Even moreso when their only answer was "send it in" and "sorry the service center can't help you". Even Toshiba's official forums were of no help. Why they don't offer this tool to the public (with quick instructions to those that need it) like they did the tool for the older Satellite models is beyond me. Should've come here in the first place.. Would've saved me a couple weeks of screwing around with stuff that didn't work and people that don't know what they're talking about. I knew all along there was a simple tool. Just everyone played dumb about it.

    I'm glad it worked, the files were left on my computer when i sent it in to be repaired.

    Can anyone suggest why my FM tuner doesn't work? The FM Tuner Utility can tune into stations but i don't get any sound from the speakers or headphones.
    I've tried different combinations of disabling and enabling different devices and installing different drivers and had no luck.

    I have no other sound issues and the radio has also been swapped with another and still no luck. Maybe it's the motherboard, everything appears to be setup correctly.

    Should the radio show up in the recording tab? It's not there for me.

    At least yours tunes, lol. I just tried it with Windows 7 Pro and it doesn't even tune, let alone do I actually hear anything. The signal is very light (says "bad"). Worked flawlessly with Vista and with the antenna in the same place. Go figure.

    I did notice that when the FM tuner program is running, the microphone turns on. When the program exits, it turns off. I can't recall how the Recording/Playback tabs looked in Vista, but perhaps they were different.

    I have the same problem, they changed my motherboard without introducing the serial and part number, the problem is that i have downloaded the dmi tool that you get from here, but donts run because i use windows 7 64 bits, and is not compatible (even with administrator rights).
    How do you run it with DOS?
