Did you ever get the keyboard working? If not would you be interested in selling it to me? I want to give it a shot. Shoot me an email if you are interested. [email protected]

I am typing this on the keyboard but no, the backlighting is not working. Any ideas?
-
@ sgilmore62 Can i ask you how did you get 1.1 increase in your Graphics WEI because on page 190 you are posting 6.0 and on page 219 you have 7.1!
What did you do to get this difference? Was that only from drivers? or I had missed something in the posts?!?!? -
The difference in the WEI graphics scores was between the release candidate version of Windows 7 and the RTM one. Apparantly MS made some adjustments to the tests. Drivers do make a difference also with a graphics score of 6.8 on notebook drivers and 7.1 with the desktop ones.
-
I wish Toshiba would give us RAID options in the BIOS so that I could add another 60gb Summit. It would also be nice to have the ability to overclock extreme processors with unlocked multipliers. I will never buy another computer without complete BIOS options.
-
@sgilmore62 Ooo so it was nothing to do with performance, just numbers!!! Sorry i didn't saw the post on page 218!
I know someone already wrote about this but I will share my experience too, might help someone!
My HDD WEI score was 5.6 and I was not able to read S.M.A.R.T. and SpeedFan was'n showing temp for the HDD with the drivers from toshiba! after removing them and letting Windows 7 installing the standart drivers for SATA i have HDD WEI 5.7 and the S.M.A.R.T. functional again! -
I've ordered qx9100 yesterday. Gonna have some fun soon ^_^. Results of tests on it's way to forum.

Is this the SSD you're referring to?
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/solid_state_drives/ocz_summit_series_sata_ii_2_5-ssd
I've read some very positive reviews about it, so I'm very tempted to get it
Anyway, is there a notebook version and a desktop version, or is it the same?
Sorry if it may be a dumb question, but I'm a newbie with SSDs :/ -
Typically, SSD's come in 2.5" form factor which is the same as your notebook drive but 3.5" adapters are utilized when they are put in desktops.
I would not recommend getting a Summit unless the price was right, got mine for $129 on a Newegg shell shocker, Today Newegg has the 60gb OCZ Vertex for $189 after MIR. Too bad they don't ship to Italy. The Intel SSD's are supposedly the best because of their small write performance usually 25-45 MB/S whereas small write performance is the weakness of the Summit drives. The Indillix based drives like the Vertexes performance is somewhere in between the Intel and Samsung drives, The Summit is a Samsung SSD.
If you run Iometer 4k random write test on a Summit it will start off at 15-20 MB/S for the first 5-10 seconds(probably due to the 128 mb cache) then gradually taper off to about 4 mb/s through the 3 minutes of the test. The Summit performance gradually increases throughout the other Iometer tests such as sequential reads and writes and bigger random reads and writes but it is said that most real world performance is realized from lesser than 32k random writes. -
Umm but Intel SSDs are the most expensive ones, if I see right... So I might check one of those Vertex as well. I'm looking for a 120gb drive, 'cause 60gb is too small for me :/ and Intel 120gb ssds are way too expensive...

I've read some of this thread but I can't find too much relevant to this particular model: (X305-Q712 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114652). Is this worth the money? What are some issues associated with this particular model? Should I be worried about this laptop's lifespan? Thanks everyone.
-
Well I bought the x305-q11 last year and have had no problems with it. I have windows 64 bit 7 on it and I play crisis warhead at high settings with
no lag. I have the 2.4 cpu in it and a 9800gts 512 video card, I paid 1,500 for the lap-top last January. I would like to get a ssd for it and maybe a faster cpu but are in no hurry to up-grade. -
Can we get a memory bandwidth comparison of the various X300/305 configurations by running a command prompt as administrator and typing winsat mem? I think the reason that my x305-Q706 WEI memory score never gets higher than 5.9 is because in addition to the memory bandwidth portion of the test, net memory minus shared by graphics is used. If you don't have over a certain amount of memory left over after subtracting what is shared by graphics then your score is capped.
Considering upgrading to more RAM but a single 4gb stick of 1066 DDR3 SODIMM is frickin expensive at $225. I do get some occasional low memory warnings while gaming telling me to close programs to prevent data loss. -
Hey sgilmore62!
I also get those "low memory warnings", last one was few days ago when I was playing GTA IV. Anyways, I am going to do that test on my Qosmio and post them here. Standby -
Thanks tunay, I mainly want some winsat mem bandwidth scores to compare to mine to see if my memory bandwidth sucks or the 5.9 WEI memory score is because I simply don't have enough memory because the GPU's are hogging so much of it. I'm hoping it is the latter because I can fix it by buying a 4gb stick to replace one of the 2's to bring it up to 6gb total.
-
-
What is your WEI memory score?
-
I am using Vista x64. It is 5.9
But, I have posted my Windows7 WEI Score here. But don't remember which Page it was. -
Oh ok, mine was 5.9 in Vista as well, I need someone with Windows 7 to post to get an accurate comparison I think. Thanks though
-
I can try to find my Windows7 Score, I have posted it here before.
EDIT:
Here bro
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=306522&page=219 -
6.4 for memory score in Windows 7 eh? I guess that is good news if your winsat mem bandwidth test was the same in win7 as the one you just posted in Vista. Since my bandwidth test is slightly higher yet I get a 5.9 and you get 6.4 means that my WEI memory score is capped by the GPU sharing thing.
-
I did not run the winsat mem bandwidth test under windows 7
-
I never ran it in Vista so have no idea if the methodology is the same for an accurate comparison.
-
Ah, understand.
-
BTW, did anyone got the backlit keyboard to work?
I think the connector for the backlighting ribbon cable needs to be enabled in BIOS. I think that connector that the ribbon cable fits is possibly a connector for models with fingerprint scanners so it may work on Intel chipset X305's. afaik, none of the Nvidia chipset X305's were configured with fingerprint scanners so that connector is not enabled in BIOS. I think it is possible that the backlit keyboard could work on Intel chipset X305's because that connector would be enabled in BIOS since those models were configurable with fingerprint scanners.
-
Should I try it out ?
-
I got myself a X500 for over 2 months now. Flashy unit with extras, But i cant really see any difference in performance compare to my X300.
Other Issues, Windows 7 (Crashes BSOD etc) - normal stuff's -
Hey guys ive had my x305 q701 for over a year now and was wanting to upgrade the cpu. would a q9100 fit in this comp, or should i get the t9900. i mainly play games. thanks
-
I actually just ordered this model from Newegg. Seems like they are the only ones who have it, so I'm guessing it's a closeout model. Seems like a great price for the specs. My only gripe is why would a computer being sold at the end of December come with Vista? I understand Toshiba gives you a free upgrade to Windows 7, but who wants to deal with doing a clean install of it? I've read it's better to do a clean install than an upgrade.
Sorry I didn't have any info for you on the model. Hopefully someone out there has some info on it. -
It cost me $94, Kind of a waste since the backlight isn't working but i do prefer the flatter, less glossy keys. It is definitely a risk at $94.
-
Yeah I found that odd too. I guess I'll submit that paper to get the Windows 7 upgrade.
It's all good, Good luck with your Q712
-
Hmm, I can check if I can find it at anystore here in Norway. I want anyway to change it becouse I have norwegian letters but my Windows languge is Turkish
-
I ordered mine from spareparts warehouse http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Parts.aspx
I don't know if they ship to Norway or have Turkish version keyboards. -
hi
i was wondering if the x305 q701 would support a q9100? and where would be the best place to buy one? thanks -
Not able to find Norwegian or Turkish version keyboards, beside that not able to find my model
-
yeah, you are not going to be looking for your model since it didn't come with a backlit keyboard, you have to look for a model with the backlit keyboard. Luckily, Toshiba keyboards are fairly interchangeable. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a Turkish one that will fit. I was dickin around yesterday and found a Turkish keyboard that would fit and it was $15, but it was silver.
-
Thanks man
I prefer black
, I would love a black keyboard with red backlit. I can even give $100+ for that one
(If it fit ofcourse
)
Sorry, can't rep you up, but will soon I can... -
Hey what would be a good cpu and can you add another gpu(NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS, 512MB GDDR3 for the 305-705?
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium (SP1, 64-bit version)

SLI card is not necessery for that CPU. Go for a better one. Your CPU will hold you back...
-
Hello, yes I am also considering purchasing a X305-Q712. From reading this thread, it seems as the x305 is great for "upgrading" parts and even adding SLI. Does that also include the Q712 version? I couldn't find any info on the Q712, but I'm hoping the motherboard supports the same features most of the X305's support, can anyone confirm this or shed some light?
-
Hello!
You can go for Sager or something else for easy upgrading. Those are also cheaper. If I knew so much about my model when I bought it as I do now, I would NOT buy it!
I have no idea about the SLI support btw, it depends on your motherboard. -
Has anyone with windows 7 64 bit been able to use "memset" to change there memory timmings on start up ? I was able to use it in with vista 64 bit but I cant seem to get it to save mem settings on start up.
-
MemSet worked fine with Windows7 64-Bit. Which verison do you have?
-
I was using the latest version I think it is 4.1. I installed it to my c: drive, I can change the settings from the desk-top and save it but when I re-boot the mem settings are back to defalt. It does put a short cut in the windows satr-up menu and when I check it the new mem settings are there but when I
reboot the settings go back to defalut.. -
I can upload that version I use when I arrive home, it worked for me. We can look for a solution if it doesn't work.
-
Thx, when you extract the program does it matter were you put it?
-
Here you go.
http://rapidshare.com/files/330545446/MemSet_UP_NBR_BY_tunay.rar.html
I have it in "C:\Program Files (x86)"
Try this and let me know if it's work for you or not. -
yes as far as i know it will support it as it has a p socket
im not sure were you could get one though. before you also asked about the t9900 you can get that from the following site
http://www.avadirect.com/Parts/Processor/Socket_P_Core_2_Mobile_Processors
the only thing is its going to cost you over $600 from the same site you can get the t9600 for $260 less just for sacrificing 200mhz clock speed
If you want to stick with the 25w power consumption and save your batteries the p9500 is the way to go (also available on this site)
if you want the t9600 for cheaper see
http://www.provantage.com/intel-bx80576t9600~7ITEP2PJ.htm
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111006cm_re=t9600-_-19-111-006-_-Product
the q9100 t9900 t9600 and p9500 will all be better then your current p7350 but i mention the t9900 and t9600 because they benchmarked better then the q9100 see
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html
im not sure if the quad core is better in real life then the others (if some one with more experience could comment that would be good) but from the benchmarks the t9900 and t9600 seem to do better is just up to you if 200mhz justifies an extra $260
that's just what i think correct me some one if im wrong -
some of the quad CPU's are getting low score at benchmark becouse some well-known benchmark tools does not have quad support. And sice the q9100 have low clocks it got low results. But in real life it will give you better results if you use quad depended applications or games. Like GTA4, CPU depended game, for example in rhis game quad core will give you better result then a bit higher clocked core2duo. Correct me if I'm wrong.
