Hey guys it's been a while since i have posted. I have discover that if you use the x305 -711 drivers work with the x300-11s. I finally got my fn button working, but you have to assign your touch buttons to what you want them to do. I got my drivers for the us Toshiba site
-
With the lastest Value Added Package driver you can assing your touch buttons. You have to do it when you use then for first time. I like that. It have been like this for 2 or 3 months
-
does your remote control work. what did you assign the media touch button to.
What is the faster ram i can but in my laptop... kington hyper x right ? -
Yes, my remote control work. I assigned media touch button to Winamp
I don't know much about RAM modules but, farest I know yes, it is the "fastest one". -
oh ok.... is stock set at 7-7-7-20... im trying to upgrade my memory for faster ram but not sure what to get
-
Yes, stock set is 7-7-7-20.
-
im trying to find some faster ram. Would 5-5-5-15 be too much for x300/305 to handle
-
I don't think so. I have my RAM modules at 7-6-6-15 with MemSet. Stock is 7-7-7-20
-
yeah, get the Kingston HyperX 5-5-5-15, but not the XMP ready because Toshiba doesn't have BIOS options for that. Just get the regular HyperX 204 pin SODIMM 5-5-5-15 because the XMP ready is 7-7-7-20 unless you have BIOS options for XMP(extreme memory profile).

What benchmark does a dual beat a quad, I'd like to run it?
-
Hello Tunay, just wanted to let you know that I installed the memset program that you gave me but it still won't let me save my new memory settings after I re-boot my computer. This is driving me crazy, why wont it
save my settings on re-boot ? I have tried everthing but still no results.. -
Thanks for the info, do you have a link.
-
That one worked for me whenI was at Windows7. It should load your setting if you work if you save it. MemSet creats a .exe file in startup folder. Also, do you have any type of anti-virus softwares? And watch out for Windows Defender.
--
Send form my Nokia N97 -
3dMark06 does not support quad core benchmarking. But since it can use two of the cores fully out quads got sometimes good results. C2D have to take care of the background processes too. It realy depends on how "clean" the system is. Dude55 has explained this on this therad before. Anyways, a benchmark is only a benchmark, real world perofrmance will not be the same...

Send from my Nokia N97 -
-
Well I was able to get mem-set to run on start-up by turning off windows user account control settings but dosen't that put my computer at a security risk ?
-
No, it is useless. I was going to write that yesterday but, didn't rememer the name
Wrote the last posts from my phone anyway
-
just installed my new t9600 not problems and im happy
-
Was wondering what cpu you had before up-grading? And how much faster is your lap-top now. I have a 2.4 in my lap-top and was thinking of upgrading to 2.8.
-
Im getting my parts soon hopefully for next week. Should someone help me out and make a video on how to disassemble these laptop. Make it easy so i can have the video on tv or mobile phone when taking this laptop a part.
-
Cool! Can you post some benchmarks, I have the same CPU. So we can compare
400 Mhz won't make so much diffrence. It also depends on what you use your laptop to. Best jump will be to a Quad, but as I said you will only get the power if you max yout your CPU by programs and games. Quad's are also expensive, not all models are supporting Quads's.
It is a pain to disassemble Qosmio laptops. You should be very, very carefull! -
Not as bad as the Satellites (dang tiny clipped ribbons at impossible angles!!), but I agree nonetheless.
Be careful following any guides that you find also. Always double check. Most of the ones I've seen seem to miss a step such as disconnecting the small ribbon cables/wires that make the mouse, lights, and top buttons function when taking off the main top frame after removing the keyboard. Last thing you want to do is get that last screw in, think you're done, then have to crack her open again because something wasn't connected completely.
-
I don't know about the Satellites but the only rule is that be carefull !
-
great advice. Can someone please make a detail video quite on how to do it. Im sure there is someone out willing to do it. All i want to do is change the cpu and maybe the gpu later.
Thanks in advance
-
I was not able to find any kind of guides to X300/305 series. I have disassembled my X300 and it was horrible. Connections everywhere
You can take a look over here,

@sgilmore62
Do you know any models that have backlit keyboard that fits x300/305 ? -
ok ill see if i can get some benchmarks is there a particular program you would like me to use i just dont have any of that kinda software at the moment so i may as well get the same as you for easy comparison.
i found the new cpu is better it just does stuff easier with few drops in fps etc. i was thinking of getting a quad but i decided i didnt really need it which meant i could save some money!
i didn't find the disassembly to difficult i just took my time and was careful -
Yes, as I said the golden rule is to be carefull. I am also not good at benchmark programs, but you can try 3dMark06 and post your CPU score. The most I got out of my T9600 is 2546 3dMark06-Points.
-
ok ill download 3d mark and see how i go
-
This could be intresting. Do you use Vista or Windows Seven?
-
If any of you guys are interested in how i took my x305 q701 apart i used this site
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v720/christopherquinalty/Qosmio X305-Q701 disassembly/
And here is my little guide
Rules: Be careful! and use your head
Tools: Small Philips head screw driver, credit card/guitar pick or some thing similar, paper clip, carefulness, common sense and thermal paste if you are upgrading you cpu
Hints: work on a bench or something that is clean so you don't scratch any thing, if possible don't work on carpet especially is you don't have one of those earth wrist band things to avoid static and don't force anything its only plastic, make sure that all the screws undone etc and maybe wiggle it a bit or move it to a different position of way if it has little plastic clips. take note of screws and wires and were they come from, label them place them next to corresponding parts, do any thing just you don't want left over screws or wires not plugged in.
Method:
step 1: remove any thing plugged into the computer, turn it upside down and take out the battery. you also need to take the hard drive cover off (its the cover with 2 screws) and remove your harddrive/s or the mother board will not lift out.
step 2: remove all the f10 screws on the underside of the computer and the two screws were the battery was. there should also be an f6 screw near the sub woofer remove this as well so you can take the CD drive out
step 3: if you look at the CD drive there should be a little hole in it that's the manual eject button, poke your paper clip or some thing small and thin into the hole to eject the CD drive and gently pull it out of the computer, if you undid the f6 screw it should come out easily. be gentle as they are a bit fragile. when you take it out you should see 2 screws at the opening were the CD drive was undo these screws
step 4: now flip the computer over and open the lid, just above the key board but below the touch keys is a a thin strip of plastic, you need to carefully pry this off with a small flat bladed screw driver you dont want to bend it but its is still clipped in, this is one of the trickery-er parts of the disassembly. Under this strip are 4 screws take them out. lift the keyboard up at the front slightly and pull it forward to release the tabs. Now don't just rip it up as you need to undo the ribbon underneath it which allows you to lift it up but not take it away. there should be a little clip which you slip a few mm across and then the ribbon should just slide out.
step 5: there should be 3 screws to undo were the keyboard was, undo these. now there should be a seam which separates the top and bottom half's of the computer its not the red one and it runs under the usb ports etc, use you credit card or similar to pry it open, it is held on by clips which should come undone with gentle force if you have undone all the screws again once you have unclipped it don't rip it away as there are a few wires to unclip make note of were they go.
step 6: once you get the top off you should have a full view of the mother board etc the elevated chip with the circley triangle thing on it is the gpu, any way there should be a little chip about 1 x 2 inch or 25 x 50 mm with 2 screws holding it in place it needs to come off you my need to remove the smaller chip next to it to get the wire free, don't unplug the wires the chip just needs to come off as is attached to the screen. next undo the screws on the brackets holding the screen on. on the left hand side there should be a a little earth wire which is held on by one of these screws take note of it as it needs to go back on later. on the back of the computer there should be 2 f6 screw undo these and the screen is loose so hang on to it now remove the wires that go to the screen and lift the screen free.
step 7: now the motherboard there should be a few screws holding it down (note these are not the ones holding the gpu on the gpu stays attached to the mobo) undo the wires attached to the motherboard and it should just lift out (there was one set of wires underneath the motherboard which i did not undo as i wasn't sure how i would be able to plug it back in, take it off if you are confident but if not just lift the motherboard out and stand it vertically behind the computer.
step 8: to remove the heat sink of the cpu just undo the 4 screws holding it on at the cpu and whole thing should just come off (my cpu was on a purple base, a bit unexpected lol) just below the cpu is a locking screw undo it and the cpu should just come off, clean the old thermal paste of the heat sink and old cpu and put a small amount of paste on your new cpu i just spread it out with my finger (probably not the best way but it got a thin layer and seemed to work well, just remember you don't want to much just a thin layer is good). when you put the cpu in it will only go in one way, have a look at the cpu one corner should be missing 2 pins, match this on to the motherboards socket for it to go on. lock the cpu in with screw
step 9: reassemble, just reverse the process being careful to get all the screws back in there right spot and to plug all the wires back in and make sure that all the wires are in place so they dont hang out and get pinched when you put the cover back on. also make sure every thing sits right before continuing
And yeah that's it this is my first guide so i hope its good and feel free to correct me and i'll edit it to suit.
Note: this is just a guide and not gospel i wrote from memory even though I'm very sure i didn't forget any thing -
i got windows 7 home premium
I'm downloading 3dmark06 now
my total 3dmark was 8069 and my cpu score was 2542
i had stock ram timings and gpu clocks -
Well, that was very close!
As I said, I use Vista.
Rep added for the guide btw
-
Can I run 3dmarks 2006 on my lap-top even though my monitor dosen't support 1024x768 ?
-
3dMark06 runs benchmarks test in 1200x600 if I don't remember wrong. So it should work. It is a while ago I ran 3dMark06 now.
-
I'm loving my new 712, but I have two quick questions that I'm hoping someone can answer me.
I've gone into the sound card's properties, but there doesn't seem to be any equalizer to adjust the bass and treble. I would think with a 4.1 speaker Harmon Kardon system this would be an option. I realize players like Winamp and Media Player have their own, but I do a lot of internet radio streaming like Pandora, and there's no way to do any adjustments. Any ideas?
Second, I'm coming from a Sony Vaio. The mouse on my Qosmio seems must less precise, and even sometimes gets stuck for 10 or 15 seconds. Is there any way to adjust this besides the standard mouse tools in Control Panel?
Thanks for any help -
Not sure if this has been answered, but my searches haven't found anything. I'm thinking of the X300. I want to use it with a coolstand, so screen hinge will need to be open 130-180 degrees. Does the hinge support that?
Also the dvd drive is in the front isn't it? Thinking that might be a pain if I'm using it on the stand...
Thanks,
Mark -
You can't push the screen all way back.
And yes, the dvd drive in in front.
Use that sound driver toshiba has on their site. That one have bass and treble option. Also, download Dolby Control Center from my post here, this is the lastest version;
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5020217&postcount=1454
There is no other mouse options, the only one is in control panel. I usualy don't use my touchpad, but what I have figrued out is that you must use your finger tup and not about 1/3 of your finger.
----
Sorry for the dubble post! -
Anyone have a problem with the touchpad freezing up for 10-15 second intervals, and then returning to normal? It's extremely annoying.
-
If I touch with more then one finger yes
-
Does anyone know where i can get kingston hyper x (KHX1066C5S3K2/4G) in the uk everywhere seems to be sold out
-
yeh i have that every now and again
-
Do you have all the latest drivers installed
-
i took my qosmio a part to upgrade now it will not turn back on
-
Uh oh... Gonna have to take it back apart and make sure those ribbon cables are connected properly and anything else that might be loose. I took mine apart and didn't get one ribbon cable seated properly and it wouldn't post -- scared the heck out of me. Good luck
-
ill give it a try... you can hear it trying to boot but there is no visual on the screen
-
It can be your LCD or GPU. Like sgilmore62 said, take it apart and make sure every connection is connected properly.
-
I have tried that and it stil is not working. I put both my 2.4ghz and the quad in both will not boot
-
Yey! My very first post in here!
Just got my band new Qosmio. I leeiik.
Spended at few hours reading your posts in here...very usefull info
Keep it up.
-
Anyone know how long Toshiba takes to send out the Windows 7 Upgrade Disk? Mine's been "In Process" for over a week now.
-
If you are ready to give up on fixing it yourself it's about $200 USD for a new mobo and about $75 USD to get a pro to put it back together for you. It is very possible that you broke something on the mobo preventing it from posting. I would review the disassembly reassembly procedure again very carefully first before buying a new mobo.
