I have some a question. Should I a SSD 120GB + 350GB Sata 7200 or should I use 2 SSD 120GB + 120GB for my X305-q720. Thankyou.

 

I was considering the ssd before I had problems with my qosmio. I am now not changing anything until my problem is solved. Hopefully it is a driver problem. So if I were you I would get a 200gb ssd hdd so that it can fit windows, games and programs that you use. I would have a 7200rpm secondary hdd for saving my photos and other staff so that the life of ssd is extended. SSD drives have infinitive life for reading stuff from them but have limited writes! So be sure you know what drivers to install and the order to install them. Moreover don't install useless staff as writing and rewriting will cause a reduction to the life of the ssd. I have read plenty of reviews and most of them say that they have so many writes that you can rewrite stuff for around 10years depending on what you do. If it is that long then you would be sure moving on something better bythen! If you have the intel based chipset I can post the list of drivers toshiba told me to install and the order for installing them. They told me they are for windows vista but I have to install the same way the windows 7 drivers which are available on their website. Hope this helps. IMHO I would go for the OCZ Vertex 3 Series SATA III 2.5-inch Solid State Drive. When I was searching it was only available vertex 2 but I believe that the newer one will be supported by the qosmio x300 laptops.
PS: 200gb is quite expensive but if you can install ur games and windows on the 120gb then that is fine!

 

It depends actually, do you care about batterylife? If not, buy about 120-180GB drive as your main drive, then a 7200rpm 750GB drive That is a bunch of space

 

judgment, I have changed my main laptop. I've have DV5 series HP laptop which has been around for several years (actually, 1 or 2 ) My father used to use it sometimes, but he does not anymore. So, I've fixed it, clean install new drivers, and I just love it

But, it has 3GB of ram and TurboCache. I'm not able to play any games, all games simply crash. I think this is because of lack of RAM. But how do Black Ops crash for you? It just freezez for me after a few seconds after start (match). You have a 9800M GTS right? I got 9600M GT.

So I turned this dust collector to a awsome laptop
Tomorrow I'm going to change the Wireless card, order new RAM sticks and hopefully a SSD disk. I just hope this is related to lack of RAM. But when I relaised this problem I imidiatly just screamed 'judgment'!!

This is a list send to me by toshiba. They told me that it is the windows vista drivers but that I have to install the same drivers (windows 7 version though) in the correct order for windows 7 64bit. More over if you go to the toshiba american website there is a tool that finds your qosmio model and downloads and installs all of the drivers for you, after your clean install. I was not that successful with windows 7 since whenever I play games in sli mode I get random freezes. I will be checking the recovery discs soon and see if it is fixed though. Moreover since u have the single 9800m gpu I believe u won't have any problems. If you search this forum I have posted previously the drivers that I use for my qosmio x300 for windows 7 but some of them will be different to yours since you are running the intel based chipset.

 

I've never timed it booting up, and I regularly install so many different programs, that timing the boot up would be pointless.
It does do everything faster though. I have run 7 virtual machines of Windows XP on it using VMWare workstation, so the processor and Ram definitely help. The SSD does make everything run faster that runs off of the hard drive. Definitely worth the money to get a good SSD drive.

I currently have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on it and it runs flawlessly with it.



I just recently got the 9800M GTX card replaced because the previous one crapped out, and the vendor on ebay was nice enough to RMA it even though it was out of warranty, because I had helped him out with a few customers.
The previous card had a slightly lower wei score of 6.9-7.0

They even supported that I am doing something wrong thats why intel chipset drivers do not install! LOL! I will test it in 2 weeks back home with the recovery discs. If it has the problem I will RMA it in my country. It is not worth trying with theses guys. They told me that they had been contacted by the headquarters and they told them that qosmio x300 have all the same chipset (intel) but different configuration of GPUS (Graphics Cards) and that they know the problem with the nvidia drivers (not installing) and that this has been fixed by nvidia (after me telling them though so I don't know if they really knew it before).

Man finally someone with the dual 9800m gts setup! I would like to ask you to test call of duty black ops and tell me if it freezes in the dual sli setup. Moreover I would like you to see the device manager show hidden devices and check the system devices/motherboard resources if they have any conflicts. If any time when I install ,it asks for restart my computer. Do i have to restart suddenly or just reject it and continue installing other programs.

 

Thank you for confirming because toshiba is trying to tell me that I am crazy! I have the exact same conflicts. Did you do a clean install? More over do you have any freezes when gaming in sli but when you ctrl alt delete and esc then you continue playing?

 

Well that link list my current drivers but they are for the qosmio with the nvidia chipset. Moreover the order of installing them is not the correct. It is just a list of the drivers needed for windows 7. I would suggest you format your computer and install the drivers toshiba send me on your current hdd. Install the latest nvidia drivers instead of the toshiba one. Test your system for a couple of days and if everything is working then you can clean install on you ssd. I personally restart when the driver recommends it.

 

I would say that,

3. Grapich Driver
4. Sound Driver
5. LAN Drivver

Rest is not that important, this is just generally for all laptops...

My Qosmio is without a keyboard, very big and sounds awfull at the moment. I think the subbofer is gone.

I'm not using that anymore because I've got bored I'm going to sell that, and use this as my main laptop now.

I've just ordrer a new INTEL X25-M 160GB SSD SATA 2.5" 9.5mm MLC Gen2 (SSDSA2MH160G2C1), and 8GB 800Mhz DDR2 RAM sticks. I do like it actually, after those are arrived, I'm going to replace the P8400 with T9600 and sell my other laptop. I've just flashed this laptop (a HP, I'm using atm) with costum BIOS so I can overclock with TS and things like that. Also, I have owned this for about 1 or 2 years (?) But it has not been used and only been there to collect dust, my father used to do some light surfing on it, but he does not anymore.

I do have 4 working laptops now, one with a external keyboard tou.
My Qosmio is hooked up to my TV, doing some surfing only. The CPU is a T4500, I think (?).

I think X9100 is great and it should work well. If it's not, why don't you upgrade to qx9300?

Well I do not have problems with the processor. X9100 i quite fast. I would upgrade to a qx9300 if my other problems are solved. I have problems whe running games in SLI. So far sc2 black screens and sometimes get flicker, batman arkham asylum freezes radomly and when you ctrl alt del and hen esc it runs until the next freeze, call of duty modern warfare 2 randomly crashes, call of duty black ops randomly freezes then ctrl alt del and esc and continue gaming until the next freeze. I know that these games are not the most sli friendly but they should not freeze like that. I have a desktop sli system which never freezes in sli. When these games are set to single gpu they work well (with lower fps) but no crashes or freezes or problems...

 

The good thing is that games work in signle GPU mod

I'm not able to play any games on this laptop at all! But I think it is due to lack of RAM and turbocach stealing almost all of it.

Even for me it might be the turbocache messing up with my dual gpus.. Maybe I run out of ram and the hdd is not as fast and thats why I get the freezes. The system is still responding. So that's my theory but I need to get 8gb of ram to test it.. Another thing is that if page file is turned off I would get a blue screen and restart when gaming!

 

There were no negative effects at all. The 2.4 quadcore is the same wattage as the original 2.0 quad was, so the temps are the same.

 

Yeah, as I've said few post above. First thing that hit me when I tried Black Ops and GTA IV was 'judgment'!!

A part of the e-mail from toshiba "At this time we feel this is a turbocache issue" saying that they are sorry for having the problem and asking me to let them know what happends after my recovery disc installation. So after 3 weeks they have the same idea of what is happening to my laptop. I might buy the ram and test it.. Anyone knows of any good ram? I basically won't be overclocking any time soon at least..

I have done a lot of search for good memory brand, basicly everyone says the same, go for the cheapest one. I'm not there, buy a respectet brand, 1066Mhz DDR3 is good. As you won't be able to use all of the DDR3 1333Mhz.

 

In my opinion, Crucial is a very good ram if you are lookingn for the performance and stable. you can find it on newegg.

 

No prob... Still looking for some advice on the thermal pads though... I did a clean install. I have yet to receive any lock ups when playing games... I have black ops on xbox and may get for PC... I have Batman and have no problem... I even alt-tab between without issue. I am only worried about temps at the moment but looking though the forums I maybe okay.

 

Can you install back ur 4gb of ram and test batman arkham asylum? It takes from 5min to 1hour for the freeze to come. The system is still responsive but the freeze comes randomly. I believe it is the turbocache eating all the ram. Since u have 8gb u won't be having the problem. Ram is very easy to change so I would be grateful if u can test it. If u test it and the problem occurs it means it is turbocache and I will upgrade my ram as well. Thanks in advance.

 

I've order my 4GB modules as well, I do have a diffrent laptop but I can also report back I'm at the moment with 3GB RAM not able to play any game! I think I'll get my new sticks either tomorrow or the day after

Depending on the laptops design it seems quite a good build! The graphics card is okay but on that resolution you should be able to game on medium settings.. Its very strange that u cannot..

 

I actually montior everything few hours ago. Without PageFile I'm unable to open any game, it just crashes. Then I turned the PageFile on, and gues what? I was able to max out Black Ops, and I've got somewhere between 25-30 FPS. No crash, but I've had massive sutring. However, this was without overclock, and my HDD gets overloaded, I see that by everytime suttring/lag apears my HDD is working it's a*s off. I belive my issue is going to be fixed with 8GB RAM. My GPU temprature got up to 96C without any overclock tou. This can be related to my HDD activity as they are very close, my HDD got pritty hot too. I could actually smell it working
