Yeah, I'm leading towards the Toshiba too, because the Hp dvt7qe seems like a great deal, but it also appears to be crap with reliability and graphics issues. The Dell Xps 17 looks nice with the 555m video card, but even with the 30% discount at similar specs,I run at a price just over the Qosmio which has a better graphics card(about $1,420 at Costco with tax).Too me the Dell appearance wise looks a lot better though. The Qosmio x700 series gaudy red color scheme appears a little to flashy for my tastes. It looks like someone bled all over it-lol Meaning No offense to people who bought this though, everyone has different tastes.Maybe it looks better close up![]()
I might still by it and put a skin on the back though if that will work. The only thing that is a real major deal breaker is if this screen comes in glossy(glare type) or matte. My eyes are very sensitive to glare.Could someone who owns this model tell me whether the TFT Truebrite screen is the glossy or matte type?
-
Looks like Costco might have sold out. They haven't had the Qosmio on their site yesterday nor today. I'll keep checking to see if it's a "glitch" (sometimes the laptops reappear).
-
-
Damn,I was going to purchase this if I knew if it came in matte or not.Whats the main difference from the x775-Q7272 and x775 q7275 models?Just the Costco added warranty?I just realized Newegg charges sales tax which would make them $100.00 more in California.Dang it!
Edit. I can still get it on Amazon for the Costco price (considering Costco tax),though I don't know if the new internet sales tax rule in California is in effect yet -
They dont charge tax in CA yet. I really hate Chase credit card now. They made me missed buying it. But hopefully more reviews coming for this series laptop.
-
Hey thanks david84!
I was wondering if an owner of this the X775-Q7272 or Q7275 models know for sure if this model is in glossy or matte finish.I read about the Toshiba Trubrite technology and from my understanding it looks like the screens glossy, but possibly has a very good antiglare effect. Rep to an owner or someone who knows absolutely sure! Hopefully my post count allows me to rep you.If not remind me when I get my post count up.Love this forum!
-
Sorry I didn't address it before. I can pretty much guarantee the screen is glossy.
All previous Qosmios had glossy screens, and this youtube vid of the x775 shows a glossy screen (see reflections).
Toshiba Qosmio X770 3D (Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M) Hands on by notebookjournal.de [German/Deutsch]‏ - YouTube
The Qosmio 7275 was a Costco exclusive model. I think the only difference was that it was cheaperand had 8 GB memory.
-
Thank you and rep rewarded!
That's too bad, looks like I'll have to go with the 17" Sager after all.Guess I'll have to wait on that too since it appears their high gamut matte screen is on backorder.
Edit Truebrite appears to be like Dell's True life.Funny how dell only offers Matte in the Full HD non 3D,while making every other resolution and 3D Truelife only
Dell - Help Me Choose: Display -
Have you owned any Sager laptop ? I realy like the price of the sager laptop, but i dont like the case of Sager laptop. It is so simple.
-
No,
I hadn't even heard of them until about a week ago after looking for another laptop.I kind of like the black no frills appearance. I like to game, but I don't want everyone to think I must be some hardcore gamer because I have a flashy laptop. Not saying my age,but I'm quite a bit older than someone in their teens. The Qosmio I guess doesn't look too bad for my taste in the front, but the big red Qosmio name and the bright red sash on the bottom back of the lid sort of turns me off. They have skins you can put on the back, though I didn't see any offered for this specific model yet because its new. If this computer looked more like their Satellite models and didn't have the glossy screen I'd have bought it already. Its doesn't have full hd,but otherwise its a very good deal for the money.
Edit,I actually kind of like the metallic sheen with the lines through it on the Qosmio. If only they got rid of the red it'd look really nice. -
I only owned it for a couple of days but like alexmuw said, the screen is definitely glossy
-
gahh... glossy screen.. why why WHY!!
I hate glossy screen coz all I see is my reflected self when I use glossy screen laptop at my store. I hated msi gt660r and gt680r solely because of this glossy screen that reflects my face so bad.. Now I have gt780r that I am about to sell but I really like this matte screen coz it reflects nothing even under so many lights in my store.. I ordered x775-3d version few hours ago only because it seems a good deal but I didn't know anything about having glossy screen.. now I am hesitating again whether I should cancel this order or not.. If this qqsmio 775 3d screen is anything like msi gt660r or gt680r glossy screen, I will be really sad.. -
-
This laptop seems interesting. Like the design and it looks really fresh.
I have a few questions or remarks
What is the casing made of? Aluminum or plastic fantastic all the way?
This laptop have only 1 fan and 1 exhaust right? The 560M is a 75W TDP and it features a CPU of 45W, and it must be hot as hell inside it or the fan is really noisy. Anyone who have it who can comment on this?
And does there exist any 15 inch of this model? -
I have one and it does not get hot, fan is quit unless you are gaming then it kicks in and blows hot air out of the left exhaust side...
-
And no,there are only 17" models. -
I just received my laptop( Q7272) from amazon. I am going to install some benchmarks and games to test it.
-
Good luck and looking forward to updates.
-
Please let us know how it performs and if the glossy screen is super reflective or bothersome.Itching to buy this or the Dell Xps 17 just can't make up my mind yet. Both seem to have their tradeoffs for similar price
-
Man I am SO GLAD I bought one of the X550 models last year. I don't like the look of this Qosmio and I don't like that they kicked the screen size down from 18.4. I see why they did both, to be honest. Change has to happen, but I am really glad I got the one I have. Maybe by the time I am ready to buy a new gaming lappy, they will have gone back to the 18+ inch screens.
-
i have installed the 3dmark11. I ran the test, and i got 20xx score in performance test, but the cpu got to 80c ~ 83c all cores. Is this normal?
-
80s is very hot, but still on the safe side (i7-2630QM will reboot if it reaches 100 C). Some will say 80s is unacceptable and I can agree to an extent. Remember, those tests puts your laptops use into the extreme conditions.
I believe the ASUS G74 can probably cool better. I think the ASUS CPU reaches high 70s, low 80s.
Try gaming for a couple hours and see what the MAX temps reach.
Keep us updated. -
-
You can also buy a laptop cooler. I bought one and it works great. I only turn it on when im gaming
-
-
To be honest, my x505 q8102X with very similar hardware to the x775, does get mid 80s CPU temps when playing certain games for a couple hours: Crysis 1 + 2, TF2, Metro 2033. [and mine has 2 fans]. I haven't had any BSODs (knock on wood), nor thermal restarts due to CPU overheating (I read the Sandy Bridge chips will restart if it hits 100 C).
I can say, the i7-740QM did run cooler than the i7-2630QM (I was a brief owner of the q894; traded up to the q8102X); so it may be that the SB chips do run much hotter.
Other games (Dead Space, Fallout NV, SC2) only seem to max the CPU (for me) to high 70s to very low 80s (like 80 to 81).
I know some brands stay cooler: Alienware, ASUS, SAGER (mainly MAX out in very high 70s, to very low 80s). It looks like the SB Qosmio do run hot; could be a design flaw.
However, this seems to be a CPU specific problem, not GPU. My GPU never goes above mid 70s (in fact I've only seen it get to 75 maybe twice).
Keep the info coming. -
I just contacted Amazon, and they will send the replacement to me tomorrow. I hope the replacement one wont have heat issue, otherwise i will go for asus bestbuy version.
-
Ive been looking now at 7272 and the 7270 models for about a month. Im thinking of getting the 7270 due to that it is much cheaper and I dont really need a Quad core for school work and gaming. But regarding the temps on the 7272, Ive seen pics of the bottom of the notebook and it does seem well vented around the GPU and the CPU. Im guessing that your not using a cooler when your playing games? I know they will help out for about a 7 to 10 degree drop on both the cpu and gpu or did on my GT660 with the 285m in it. And as for the BB of the Asus, dont. It has a gimped GPU in it. Its only 128 bit instead of the 192 in the other laptops. You can go to MicroCenter and a G74 for 1399 that has the 3 GB 192 Bit 560M in it. The only down side is the HD speed, 5400rpm.

I think i7 2630qm just runs hotter than first gen i7. I had msi gt680r which uses same cpu and its gaming temp were low to mid 80s.. Same for msi gt780r. Now I have toshiba qosmio x775-3dv78 and its cpu temp goes over 80c as well which gpu temp barely reaches low 70's at max. I find it strange but it's true.. Things have changed since early this year.. it's like cpu and gpu temp got switched on laptop. till last year, it was gpu temp that goes to high 80's to low 90's while cpu temp were always low 70's at max or lower... But now, gpu stays at low 70's or lower while cpu temp goes over 80c.. what the heck.. If I remember correctly, everyone said high 80c on gpu temp is fine but high 80's on cpu aren't. It doesn't seem like it effects performance or clashing, shut down problem but cpu temp goes over 80c still bothers me.
Of course, I can always use my huge butt notebook cooling tray that lowers about 4-5c of cpu, gpu temp but it's too big to carry around and I don't wanna use it. -
I wonder if the CPU isn't having the same throttling issues the other brands are having: namely ASUS, HP (maybe some others).
Supposedly with the 2 brands mentioned above, the CPU will down clock to 800 MHZ when under intense load; thereby drastically reducing temps.

my gpu downclocks a lot during furmark 1.9.1 test though.. I did run burn in test at 720p and 1080p resolution and both time, gpu downclocked to 200mhz(compared to regular 775mhz). I don't know..Maybe furmark pushes gpu too far and it makes it downclock in matter of few seconds.. but the games seem to run fine(gtx 560m).

I received the replacement one this morning and i have tested both of them for 3 hours. After 3 hours benching and gaming constantly on both laptop, the Core 0 and 1 on original laptop were 5C higher than replacement one( 92C was max for core 0/1), but the Core 2 and 3 were 3C lower than replacement one. The idle temps on replacement one was cooler than other one. So i am going to keep the replacement one, but those temps really make me want to return both and buy something else. I also ordered Zalman ZM-NC2000 cooler pad, hope it brings down 5-10c.
-
What are you using to benchmark? Are you playing games?
Ya those temps are very high! Considering the Sandy Bridge i7-2630QM will restart the system if it reaches 100C. -
-
Choice is up to you.
If it only got to those temps while using benchmarks, I personally would just assume its due to the stress from the tests. I do know those tests can make systems get very hot.
Try checking out the ASUS forums and see what temps they get on those tests. Sometimes people will lowball temps, so try to get pics if possible. -
-
at my store, my cpu idle temp is around 50-55c.. during watching 720p movies, it goes up to around 65 to 68c.. during gameplays, it went up to 78 to 83c.. I think I will reapply thermal paste with IC diamond one when my screen protector gets here.. It will probably lower about 3 to 5c over normal cheap factory default thermal paste.. I have notebook cooler than lowers another 5c from gpu and cpu but I really don't wanna use it coz it's too big and bulky.
cpu performance significantly from first gen i7 to sec gen i7 mobile cpu but temp went up to significantly as well.. hopefully 3rd gen will fix this.. really.. gpu temp was problem about an year ago but now cpu temp became problem. they did wonderful job on lowering 90c normal mobile gpu to under 80c so why not on cpu too? -
Anyone have recommendations on the best cooler pads on the market? Do they really make a difference?
THANKS!!! -

Hey so I don't know if any Qosmio x770/x775 owners want to make a new owners lounge or something but if they don't is there any way and does anyone wan't to take over this thread so it could be better maintained?
-
Mine is still in the mail....I know there are some issues with heat/over-heating (thats why a got a 3 year warranty from square-trade). But new OWNERS are you happy with the performance during gaming? I specifically bought mine for some pc gaming. Thanks
Hopeful once mine comes I can contribute with useful information lol -
Just bought crisis 2 for my Qosmio X775-3DV78 to see how it would run. I have everything set on "Ultra" and the game runs fantastic on it. I do have a notebook cooler under my laptop but no heat issues so far...
-
Glad to hear. Any throttling issues? (CPU slowdowns when under heat). ASUS and HP ENVY are still supposedly suffering from throttling.
Just curious -
-
I tried crysis 2 on my x775-3dv78 as well but it wasn't playable at all.. well.. at least on 3d stereoscopic mode that is.. gtx 560m simply can't handle crysis 2(or dead rising 2) on 3d mode even on 720p low setting. At least star craft 2 was playable on medium setting 720p. But well.. I expected that much coz I remember gtx 295 couldn't handle left 4 dead 1 on high setting few years ago when I had it and gtx 560m is nowhere near as powerful as gtx 295. Even my desktop gtx 580 sli have hard time playing 3d stereoscopic mode on some games(metro 2033, witcher 2 etc on 1080p). I haven't tried on regular mode but I guess it wouldn't have too much problem running crysis 2 as long as it's not 1080p max setting. I could get about 25-30fps on star craft 2 extreme setting at 1920x1080 though.
