Hmmm.
I still think those are high. In all fairness I can say my i7-2630QM CPU when gaming can and will reach the 80s [I have 1 core that runs 5 degrees hotter than the rest. It will reach mid 80s while others reach low 80s]. This seems to be a Toshiba + Sandy Bridge problem, most likely inadequet CPU cooling.
Like I said in previous posts, the i7-740QM in the Qosmio did not reach these same temps [mainly high 70s; I know as I used to own the q894].
The fact that the GPU stays under 70 reinforces my thinking that the cooling of the CPU is inadequet compare to some other brands (actually it's only slightly better than the toaster oven HP ENVY, lol).
Not sure how it will affect long term stability, but it does make you wonder. At least there isn't any CPU throttling, that is something to smile about.
Keep us updated.

Even though I have a X550 Qosmio, I think my findings are probably relevant here regarding the heat issues. I have noticed that when I have my laptop on a desk or a solid or cloth surface that the temperature for just for running regular windows programs is around 60 degrees, which you would expect. Intense gaming kicks it up to under 90ish. Now I noticed while in a car the other day as a passenger on a long trip (with my laptop plugged in via cigarette light adapter) that the temperature never rose above 70-75 degrees even while gaming. Obviously the heat is dissipated a lot better when the laptop is on lol my lap than it is on a solid surface. So if your temps are rising a little high and you don't have a cooler, just try taking the laptop off the solid surface and gaming on your lap for a while.

Good points Chiro.
Not to derail, but did you ever resolve your mouse and keyboard issue ? -
lol Yeah, Alex, I did and I just posted the results in the original thread on the first page.

I just got my Qosmio x775-Q7272. I like it so far. I haven't done any tests on it yet so far. But I already have a problem. I want to install ubuntu on here and have the option to boot in windows or linux. I used the windows installer on the ubuntu webpage... and when I go to restart and complete the installation it says it fails and stops... I could get the exact terms if it would help anyone..... Has anyone with this same computer been able to install it??? I ing hate window.... someone please help me out here.
-
damn thats high...... i gota run those tests too.
-
Yup, those temps really make me worry too. Have you guys return anything to Amazon? They want me to pay return shipping cost for this laptop.
-
But if i keep this laptop, i will buy on site warranty for it.
-
I think paying for return shipping is kind of the standard for online purchases from online retailers (which is why I like buying from the online sites of Big-Box stores, can just return to the store).
If you buy the On-Site warranty, make sure you CALL Toshiba Direct. I was able to get a discount that way (ask for it in a polite way). If you buy the warranty online, it will be full price.
-
To get Ubuntu LiveCD/Install to boot, add the kernel parameters nomodeset and acpi_osi= to the grub command line. It'll boot fine after that.
Unfortunately there were several problems that kept me from using Ubuntu, including no keyboard backlighting, a terrible bug that causes the LCD to strobe to the point I was scared it was going to be damaged when going into sleep mode, and a total inability to accurately read the battery charge (100% charged = 3 minutes remaining??)
Fedora 15 is able to read the battery properly but suffers the psychotic strobing effect and the lack of keyboard lighting.
Seriously, the strobe thing when entering sleep under Linux is horrible. While the screen was flashing it was actually MAKING NOISES. Like little clicking whirring scary noises. I wouldn't recommend it. -

I downloaded Furmark, andi ran it. The gpu throttled down when it hit 72c for first two time, but on the third times it went over 72c mark, then again it throttled down on forth times when it hit 74c. This laptop hit 74c in burn-in test. Everything is set at stock.
-
Anyone who got the Qosmio x775-Q7270 made the temp tests to see if the core i5 model has the same cooling problem?
-
-
Theres a good probability of i5 2410M model stay at lower temperatures then the i7 correct? So, anyone there got the x775-q7270 or others, and would, please, run a some benchs and tell us the temp? Anyone?

For those with a 3D laptop, nvidia just released the 280 BETA drivers [I emphasize BETA, not WHQL certified]. The release highlights mentions support for the Toshiba Qosmio x775-3D laptop.

right now i m so frustrated, i am at verge to buy a new machine and i was considering toshiba x770 and alienware m18x. problem is alienware is only online, takes two weeks to build and if any problem then ur stuck to phone etc and toshiba which is avaliable from store is having overheating issues. i have waited so long to get a machien and now i m stuck with this dilemma and dunno what to do.
so i should assume that qosmio 770 is a mistake from toshiba because of overheating issues based on other user's experiences and i have to risk ordering alienware m18x online ? -
If you have the money and can buy an Alienware with a better GPU (ATI 6990m or GTX 580m), then I would get that. If your just getting the m18x/m17x with a GTX 460m/560m, you may also want to look at x505 series; maybe can get a deal.
For the m18x, I would do some research. I know some fishy build quality issues (flimsy keyboard) and software issues.
I do agree the temps do seem very high on the x770, but it seems in line with the MSI (shin mentioned) and the HP ENVY (which still runs hotter).
ASUS G74 and CLEVO and Alienware m17x/m18x are running cooler in the 70s/80s
Keep us posted Hardcore. I know you've been waiting a long time! -
thanks a lot alex, its more or less same money for toshiba and alienware in uk with geforce 560 and reason i was getting 560 is for same reason i.e to have less issues with heating. i was very happy with my old qosmio x500 with old intel processor although what happened in the end was history
i know about heating issues with hp envy and asus, i m still hearing some silly stories about dell online and my previous experience with dell desktop wasnt very good (hardware wise, i have no problem with their customer service in UK though). i just dont like the idea of ordering on phone, prefer direct interaction in store.
anywayz what ur saying is heating doesnt look like an issue with qosmio 770 as compared to hp envy and some other machines ? -
I do hear the MSI is coming out with a laptop w/ a GTX 570m card in August. Might want to consider that also -
alex, i think i m going to give msi a miss i guess. i really miss my gaming life nowadays. need to make up my mind soon. thanks a lot for ur help
-
If your not open to ASUS (to me ASUS is a hit-n-miss) then I think your only solid option is Alienware. I know you said you had a negative experience, but their CS is supposed to still be top notch compared to other brands.
-
I don't know if it's still the case, but in years past, I have always found Alienware to be highly overpriced. Also, not to derail the thread, but I absolutely hate their keyboards for anything but gaming. I am a writer, and while I always buy gaming laptops for the gaming, I also do a lot of writing on them, but that is obviously not a concern for everyone. Asus I don't think is hit and miss. Up until the G73 problems, I think they were considered one of the top manufacturers by most people.
-
Thanks. Have you tried these drivers?
-
To anyone interested, Costco got more of the x775-7275 Qosmios in for $1299 (Probably the best deal out of all the x775 Qosmios).
Costco - Computers - Shop All Laptops -
-
Ahhh, that's too bad. It does list the 3D Qosmio as supported. Maybe we have to wait for Toshiba to release it with their tweaks.
-
Thanx for the timely heads up on Costco getting these back. I cancelled an order on Amazon last night and got the Costo model this AM. Essentially the same price when I pay sales tax but I get 2GB more memory and a 2 year warranty (3yr with my CC) so it seems well worth it in my book. I really gave the Asus units a hard look but I've had good luck with Toshiba in the past and my friend that worked at a local computer store also mentioned that he was not overly impressed with the Asus laptops he's worked on in the past. (Although Toshiba was not his favorite either but that was due to their using lots of screws of different lengths not hardware failures).
Guess we'll see how it works out when mine gets here in a couple of days...
regards
-
No problem.
Make sure to do a review once you get your system and had some time to play around with it.
Good luck -
I've played games in the exact same fashion on my X775-3DV78 and felt nothing of the sort. It's not even warm anywhere near the keyboard. -
-
q7275 is now back in stock on costco.com
-
Re Costco: now its gone....
-
-
lol sorry man it was such a good deal i didnt think it'd last
-
Well Costco still has their same allotment of ASUS G73SWs in stock. Been there for a while...
The Toshiba was a good deal. Beat the G73's butt -
So, I received my Qosmio x775-q7270 and turned it on. BOOM. I was configuring my user and password, when suddenly a message appeared on the screen: "WARNING:A problem with the cooling system has been detected, turn off the computer immediatly and return it for service." Whats that? Is there anything I can make to fix it?
Thank you. -
Jeez..... I have no idea. Where did you buy it? I would return and get an exchange or refund.
You could call Toshiba support, but if they try persuading you to send it in for repair, forget it; just return it.
Keep us posted. -
I bought it from Amazon.com, and maybe I'll return it. I read in some forums that this problem may be an uncorrect message. So everything is working but the message appears even tough. Whats the name of a software to monitor my cpu fan speed and my gpu fan speed? And temps too?
-
Toshiba has its own software to monitor CPU temp and speed, its called PC health monitor. It is located in Toshiba/utilities. There are many programs to monitor temps of CPU and gpu, but i use HWmonitor. Post back with your result.
I also want to update news about my laptop temps. I think the weather getting chiller, so after 6 hours playing Star-craft 2, the cpu got maxed 82C, and gpu never goes over 70C. -
so quick question.. is the Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7272 worth the buy from costco? what are the cons of the laptop. is the screen good/bad? also should I buy the i5 version or the i7 version (Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7272) I'm only going to do school work and gaming on it.
And I CANT find anywhere that the Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7272 ( one from costco ) is WIDI ready? The laptop is optimus enabled but is it widi ready? -
Ok, so this is my first post and I only have a basic understanding with computers in general. So... I just purchased the Qosmio x775-Q7272. I was wondering if I would be able to swap out one the hard drives with a SSD. I saw on this website that this action can not be done, generally.
My intent is to use the SSD to hold all my operating processes and have the second HD for general storage. If this is possible, any recommendations for a SSD brand? I am looking for 256gigs of SSD.
Lastly, I willl be using this laptop to play Civiliazation V. Should I expect any issues with the graphics card or is the graphics strong enough for the game?
If I missed posted this comment / questions please let me know. Thank you. -
Another simple question, with the Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor 2.0 GHz (2.9 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology), does the Turbo Boost kick in automatically or does it require me to actually initialize the boost?
Meaning, if the laptop determines it needs the extra .9, will the laptop do this automatically or not. -
The Costco version of the x775 is a Costco exclusive model. It is the same as the x775-q7272 but has 8 GB ram and costs less.
The GTX 560m should have absolutely no problems playing Civ 5. In fact the 560m can play some of the most graphically demanding games such as Crysis and Metro 2033. The GTX 560m is probably overkill for Civ 5. But if you ever wanted to expand your game library, the 560m would be good to have
As for the Turbo Boosting, the CPU will automatically turbo boost if it needs it. It's a pretty cool feature; definitely the direction future CPUs will be taking.
======
**EDIT**
Here's the CIV 5 Recommended Computer Specifications [as opposed to minimum]. The Qosmio suprasses all of them.
Good luck -
So the Qosmio x775 seems like an amazing buy. Now just need someone to fill me on its widi capabilities! Oh and how is the screen?
-
-
seems that the laptop is sold out again from costco ( cant find it anywhere )
But, you can still buy it from amazon and get a xbox! -
Walmart.com has the x775-q7272 too.
Walmart.com: Search Results for "qosmio"
Don't know if you get the xbox, but if you decide to return, you can just return to your local store.
Good luck -
Qosmio x775-Q7272/Q7275 has gtx560M 128 or 192 bits? :/ I don't know whether to buy this toshiba or Asus G73 :/ Sorry for my English
