Microsoft's website (of all places) seems to have wi-fi driver for the a135-s2276 XP upgrade available. It works great. In fact, I'm typing this on it now.
I am having a few different issues, though:
I'm still looking for something to get my sound working. I don't have a disc readily available, so where could I find an ample driver to get it functioning? I already tried some Realtek one that didn't seem to fix the problem at all.
Also, after downloading the touchpad driver, I turned off the touchpad (not a fan of it), but my mouse cursor occasionally freezes. Am I missing something for this, too?
Thanks. -

I recommend using the A105-S2236 same hardware except DVD burner and XP Link to the detail specs and drivers

Problem with A135-S4407 - I know it's a different model than what this thread is discussing but this laptop has similar devices. I'm not thread robbing so please no flames.
Well I returned my S2246 and bought the S4407 for more memory and decided to keep Vista. Unfortunately, I found out a lot of productivity softwares I own does not work with Vista. It seems like using XP leads to driver problems with this laptop and Vista leads to software problems. Regardless, I'm sticking with XP since it seems to run better, even tho Vista looks real pretty.
Anyway, I installed the XP drivers recommended by Turbo97SE (T.Y.) and almost everything worked. What I'm missing is the Ethernet Controller and the SM Bus Controller.
I got the wireless LAN to work so I think this unknown Ethernet controller is the wired LAN. The Modem device driver installed fine as with the Realtek Audio.
I installed the LAN driver from the recovery disc and also from Intel but the Ethernet controller is still unknown. The driver ID software posted earlier indicated it is an Intel Chip.
HWC forum stated that the SM Bus Controller can be fixed with the ATI South Bridge driver from the ATI Xpress 200m driver set. Unfortunately, the S4407 comes with Intel's GMA 950 and the SM Bus Controller is made by Realtek. Trail mix anyone?
I appreciate any help if anyone can chime in. The spec for the S4407 is at http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/satellite_A135-S4407.pdf
Again TIA!
~ ghost
UPDATE: I had the manufacturers switched. I found the SM Bus driver for the S4407 at Intel's site. It's the Intel Chipset Software Utility. Now to hunt down the Realtek Network controller. The Reltek device is the 8100 series but the supplied Toshiba driver did not work nor did the downloaded driver from Realtek. -
hey turbo97se
did you find out about the two unknown devices ? i am **** sure they have sumthing to do with the stand by problem which i am facing too.they are acpi compliant. after doing some research I realized that they are in the config folder of the rcovery cd, but that doesnt install in XP. cud reconfigure or compile the config folder set up folder setup do we can be problem free forever -
-
zorrann, I am guessing here but the ACPI buttons allow certain buttons to activate certain software (such as DVD player) directly without having to go through the Start Menu.
I did have standby issues in that if you allow it to go into Standby mode, it would not wake up. However, a work around that I have discovered is to set the power Options (under control panel) to go into hibernate instead after they time out instead of into standby mode. Now if you manually tell it to go into standby mode, it will wake up
i.e. set
System Standby to "Never"
System hibernates to "x minutes"
What seems to happen is if you set the system standby to say 5 minutes and 5 minutes elapses, the laptop will not wake up. I have only seen this happen on the A135-2276 I have. I also have an A135-2246 set up the exact same way, but that one does not seem to care so much.
There certainly is the possibility that the 2 unknown devices are affecting standby mode. I believe the buttons are more for the buttons on the left hand side of the keyboard that allow quick launches for apps. I will take a look at the recovery CD to see if there is something that can be done about this but I am not hopeful. I did find a potential OEM supplier for the Toshiba laptop or at least used pretty much the same mother board as the 2276 but I lost it when I did a ghost. I will see if I can find it again.

regarding the two buttons i finally found the drivers for them ......... i cant remember what. i have a vista too in another partition it was there in the the windows inf file of vista. if you need more info i can look it up.
thanks man

Just created an account to thank Turbo, great XP driver pack. It works perfectly for the Toshiba A100-VA1. Just bought the laptop today and everything is working!
Thanks again. -
Turbo what are your drivers based on?
I currently am on ATI retail drivers 7.1 (My device is not identified as a 200M it is identified in the Hardware of XP as Xpress Series. I tried the Omega Drivers as I was told I would get better perfomance here on the board, however I couldn't find my VRAM settings, does Omega not have this option?
Luckily I just switched to the Retail drivers, and install Catalyst 7.1 Control. Otherwise if you have enough ram, you would want your VRAM @ 128MB for best performance, not stuck in 64 MB. If it is in the Omega Driver can someone tell me where?
If it is not in the Omega Driver, I have packaged ATI CCC, for others who will need it for Turbos Driver install, or the Retail Driver. -
-
so u have spending time as much as i have done. I was pretty pissed of myself when same occurance happened to me. if u r using the recovery cd..install vista first, make partition in vista (it has the option). then load windows in an empty partiton.
next boot into vista thru the vista recovery cd.
download vistaboot pro.
add windows option
and that shud work -

For those with this model, do I have to put 512 RAM cards in the bottom, or can they be bigger? I already have the 512 it came with and have someone on this forum selling th other 512, but is it possible to get bigger? I'm a bit of a comp gamer - not for MMORPGs, but single player games that can toll the system (Oblivion, for example).
Thanks. -
manly you shoulod be able to put 1GB sticks into your unit. To those wondering about XP/Vista boot, very easy.
Once you install XP it will over write the Vista boot record. Vista uses a new bootloader different from any other version of Windows. What you will want to do, is boot into the XP installation, once it has been installed. On the C: drive copy Boot.ini, NTLDR, and NTDETECT.COM to the drive with Windows XP. Drive C: I would assume has Windows Vista on it.
Now download VistaBootPRO 3.1, and enter a new OS to choose from, Choose Older copy of Windows, and choose the disk it is on, then select the Install vista boot loader option.
Now when you reboot the pc, you should see the OS select menu, and voila, both Windows should load up, with no problems. -
I really appreciate the time and energy spent by everyone in this thread. I got most of the stuff working on my A135-2246 after installing XP-Professional.
Can someone please let me know how to set up brightness adjustment on this as pointed by the quoted email. I have the mute and lock hotkeys (Fn+F1,F2) working but the brightness adjustment does not work.
Also Other than the hotkeys how can i adjust the screen brightness?? Tried looking into properties->Settings->.... but could not see anything for brightness control.
Thanks a lot. -

A135- XPRESS 200 IS 667MHz DUO CORE COMPATIBLE!!!!
I purchased a T2500 2.0GHz Core Duo off Rapebay.
Installed it today in my A135-S2246 Celeron 430 1.73Mhz.
BAM BOIS show 2.0GHz Core Duo on boot.
BAM the CPU-z shows bus is up from 133MHz to 166MHz
CPU-z shows the Core Duo running full 2.0GHz
Bottom line <$500 a Core Duo 2.0Ghz running 667MHz FSB & 2GB DDR2 667MHz
I can't believe it! I can't believe it! I can't believe it! I can't believe it! -

"In this moment you can`t download this file, please try again in next 10 minutes, we working on this server, SORRY!"
Im trying to DL the rest of the drivers. -
Links still not working
.... can anyone assist please?
Thanks! -
For reducing brightness use "ati tray tools" <-- they work great for me . I am not sure but I don't think they should require the omega drivers.

The RAM the 2276 uses is PC2 4200 533 and I'm looking at 1gb. I've located a nice Kingston on negg for 83.99:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144183
But the Kingston.com site says the 2276 should be using this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ATT=N82E16820134058&CMP=OTC-pricegrabbermerch
Now the difference is forty bucks, but the specs seem identical. Anyone care to tell me if there really is a difference or what anyone else did to add a gig of RAM to the 2276? -
I am working on a satellite A105-S2236 it had vista and i put xp on it for a customer, and was reading about and searching for the drivers. Trying to use what was suggested earlier in the thread but to no avail. I finally went to toshibas website and used the drivers for the A105-S2231 which is originally equipped with xp and I used all the drivers for it and now everything works and all the drivers are installed....just thought i would let you know if you were havin trouble like i was
-
I got the crucial 1 gig from mwave.com for $81 plus $8 shipping. Crucial's site recommended a different model number but with the same specs, also for about forty bucks extra. I went with the mwave RAM and am glad I did. I didn't want to mess with OS, and judging from this thread I'm glad I didn't. My machine flies now - faster than my desktop with XP.
-
I purchased a 1gig RAM for the S2276 on newegg.com for 75 bucks or so. It's a Kingston. The Kingston website said there was another RAM card of theirs that is specifically for my laptop model (and costs another 50 bucks), but after speaking with them on the phone, they admitted that the cheaper one would be 98% likely to work and I would know initially if it did not. I plugged it in to no problems and my system says it's there and running perfectly fine.
After putting XP on my S2276, I have a few issues. I'm using the following drivers:
AVI: 7-2-igp_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_sb_gart_enu_41238
XP : Xp_2k.6.30.06
Sound: audio 3-driver_audio_realtek_25234A
My problems are the following:
- My keyboard occasionally pauses being responsive for a moment or two, which makes faster typing difficult and erroneous.
- My mouse occasionally freezes and becomes unresponsive, whereas I need to hit a key or touch my touchpad to get it to wake up 9which is curious because I turned my touchpad off).
- I can watch videos on youtube.com and DVDs okay. However, every time I try to run video files from several data CDs or downloads the video feed is slower than the audio and they don't match up. I thought it was simply an issue with the software, but I tried using Winamp, Windows Media Player, and even Nero to watch the videos and they each don't match up. I'm curious if this is somehow due to the audio and/or video drivers in some way.
- My manual volume control on the front of my computer doesn't always work as it should. For example, when I start a computer game, I have to have my Windows volume set for the certain level I want in the game itself and can not adjust the volume level in-game except via the manual audio controls the game has. For example, if I lower my volume completely (not by muting) and enter the Bethesda game, Morrowind (for example), I will have no volume at all and adjusting the manual vlume control physically on the laptop does nothing mid-game.
- The sticky keys often do not work, nor does the Windows key. So when I'm in a computer game, I have to shut the game down to get to my Windows desktop in the event I need to do something briefly.
- The computer infrequently freezes altogether and is unable to be restored without resetting, but this may simply be a typical XP issue overall.
Ideas, anyone? -
Has anyone managed to burn a Data-dvd?
I tried several burners( microcd, beepburner, cdburner xp ), but all refuse to recognize the dvd-burner.. I did manage to burn an iso file using Active iso burner.
Edit: those burners required administrator privileges to detect the drive.. lame -
PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ REPLY
I HAVE NEW S2276.I DOWNLOADED xp2.and i was able to install wifi adapter.
butt still struggling for ati grapphic drivers.i installed one of the 2 drivers posted by turboye(that 15 mb bare bones..... ) but while installing it gives INF ERROR.PLZ TELL . -
under the boot menu and advanced options select "wake up on mouse" enable. that will take care of it -
-
thanx GRIZZLY for reply.i ll try for omega drivers butt i read somewhere that graphic sometimes get`freezes with omega.r u going fine with omega drivers.
also do u know something about that INF error? -
Here is what I got:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231118
2GB kit (1GB x 2) for $130 shipped
I didn't want to just add 1GB to the existing 512 because then you don't take advantage of dual-channel. Or does this system not support dual-channel? I like to max out the memory anyway. Less disk accesses generally mean better battery life. -
-
hi guys, now there is new problem!!!!!!!
i installed the OMEGA DRIVER for my s2276 ati xpress 220m graphic card.i worked fine.
BUTTTT`when i click ati TRAY TOOLS, my laptop immediately gives blue screen and laptop gets restarted.it happens alwaysss.
plzhelp.i ll appreciate the repliers.thank you -
Uninstall the drivers/ati tray tools. Restart.
Install again and make sure to DISABLE OVERCLOCKING when it asks you to 'disable overclocking'. -
We should all just start calling toshiba tech support night and day and whine like a bunch of babies untill they offer support for Windows XP. Just start saying stuff like Vista stinks and will stink until Microsoft releases its first service pack. And stuff lke I don't want to be Bill Gate's Beta tester. It's pretty lame you guys only support 1 operating system for your laptop when other manufactures support multiple Operating systems. If enough of us start clogging there tech support lines day and night then maybe they will get off there lazy buts and release support for it. They have the Better Bussiness burea logo lets threaten to file a complaint with them too. Then we will have solid drivers from the manufacture for windows XP

hey all - thanks turbo for some of the drivers that you provided. I have the A135-S2246 and installed WinXP on it because Vista was too slow. I still have 4 question marks however in my device manager. I have the Modem Device (which isn't that important to me), the SM BUS Controller (which I would like to fix) and 2 Unknowns. The SM BUS Controller I have tried to Download the Intel Chipset Control program but when I run the .exe file it doesnt seem to resolve the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, I can't get the brightness or other buttons to adjust. Can anyone help out???

hey guys anyone tried windows vista LITE.
i heard that it runs like a rocket even on 512 ram.
i ll not mind giving it a try -
I like the idea of annoying Toshiba into some drivers, but I'm still looking for a solution to my previous issues from last page and still can't run video correctly:
