How's the research doing everyone? Anyone figured out how we can beat this? I need to get the bios on this a135 unlocked using tweak bios then maybe I can move through some settings for this graphics card. Anyone figured out the mouse/keyboard lickup issue? It's obviously a bus getting jammed by some aspect of the frame buffer. Let's nail this problem everybody! We're in this together. I'll keep you updated on my bios tweaks.

Thanks for the drivers, though i'm still having audio issues. When I watch movies or listen to music i'll get a lag, and than it'll continue and than lag again. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Does anyone know a fix for this?

    Thanks

Well i've resolved my issue with the audio lag. When you first install windows xp completely and you are at the desktop, all you really have to do at this point is go to add/remove hardware and remove the audio. Than reboot your laptop and when prompted to reinstall the drivers don't use the windows xp wizard, Hit cancel. Now install the correct audio drivers and than reboot your laptop and you should be good to go.

I decided to return my laptop to worst buy. I argueed with the manager and the geek squad but they refused to waive the 15% restocking fee. So I lost $82. Then because I paid cash they have this policy that anything over $250 they would mail me a refund check with 10 days. Thats when I started cursing and raising my voice. They quickly found a way to get me my $495 by ringing up some gift cards then they voided them. I will never buy another Toshiba Laptop as long as I live. I have owned HP, Compaq and A Sony Laptop in the past and was satisfied with all of them. That toshiba seemed to good to be true for its price. The idiot Geek Squad guy said he could get XP running on the toshiba with no problems for $129 if I brought in my copy of XP. I told him if it wasnt right then I will not pay $129 and he can waive the 15% restocking fee. Obviously the geek squad would not agree to that. I restored the laptop to factory default from the restore cd before I gave it back to them too but worst buy still wacked me 15%.

Good Luck Guys I wish you well I will never buy a Toshiba again or recomend it to anyone who asks my opinion about laptops. There tech supports stinks

Ok if you guys are having problems with the mouse or touchpad (mouse cursur hanging on the screen) disable CFSServ.exe from starting up. This is the Toshiba ConfigFree Utility that searches for wireless devices. I was watching the processes in windows task manager and noticed it spiking on the cpu usage when the cursur would glitch. Disabled it and no more hangs.

    Greetings from Mars,
I just bought my first laptop. I went cheap, so I'd know what I liked or hated about laptops before (or if) I ever go for a high end one. So I got the Best Buy Toshiba Satellite A135-S2276 for $550. I find out afterwards Vista won't run most of my software, stats stuff and dragon voice recognition. So I take it back, and learned about the 15% restocking fee. Nice of them to let me know in advance. I decided to keep it and have a go at downgrading, rather than be out $75. So before I start, I'm wondering if some of you with experience in this operation, might tell me if you began with a reformat, or simply loaded XP right over Vista? I've downloaded the drivers found earlier in this thread, and have a few I scavenged up hunting on my own. Now I've got reformat jitters. Am I going to destroy this machine? What if it won't load? What if, what if, what if. Any advice or Don'ts?
    Wyvern

If you've read this thread a couple of times and have the drivers, you should be fine. You should reformat the partition that now contains Vista, which will be an option from the XP install CD. Leave the hidden partition intact, which has the Vista install files, in case you go back to Vista in the future.

After spending 15 hours yesterday reading this thread several times and downloading and trying lots of drivers, I have a question for those who have been through the XP install on the A135-S2276.

I have everything working but the two 'unknown device' (which I don't care about ) and the modem. As anyone gotten the modem to work? I still have the "?" in front of "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus". I've tried every modem driver listed in this thread, which includes the only XP driver Toshiba lists for this notebook on their site.

The modem not working may not be a huge issue, since I may never need to use it, but if others were successful in getting it identified and working under XP, I would be most grateful for a link to the driver you used and anything unusual you had to do to get it working.

Try the software modem driver. I think its on the Vista disk and will work as an XP driver also.

Got some news today that ATI/AMD is the chipset manufacturer for this board and not INTEL, but I dont see anything on thier site except the 200m drivers which I havent tried. They have a southbridge driver that I installed but I couldnt find anything else, thought that might help with the 2 unknown items.

This is absolutely incredible. Vista is protecting itself from being formatted over. I can't even format the hard drive from DOS.

PackRatt: Thanks! I never noticed the drivers on the Recovery CD when I first looked at the disc the first time. The software modem driver worked!

DQI: Just put in the XP CD and when you get to the point of selecting the partition to install on, just pick the larger partition and choose 'format with NTFS'. I just put XP on two A135-S2276's and had no problems reformatting the Vista partition. You wouldn't be able to format from DOS since DOS doesn't see/recognize an NTFS partition.

hi guys, i got my A130-ST1312 today, and the first thing i did was to uninstall Vista and put on XP.

Then I had problems with my video card( nvidia geforce go 7600 ) , wireless controller, ethernet controller, sm bus controller, mass storage device. ---this was AFTER i installed all the drivers that came from Toshiba with this notebook.

And after 8 hrs, i got all the problems solved except the mass storage device( i don't really care about it, cuz my USB works fine). here is what i did:

For video card, i went to http://drivers.mydrivers.com. this was the easiest---if you know Chinese.

For wireless, I installed the software utility for the intel chipset(this solved the sm bus controller problem), and the intel wireless lan ( all the drivers can be found at Intel's website. you only have to know the exact right name/type of your chipset/wireless lan), and I upgraded Windows XP with SP2 and the wi-fi upgrade package from microsoft's website.
Then the wireless network starts working.

For the ethernet controller, I looked at driver software name in the system recovery CD that came with the computer, and found the type of my ethernet controller, which is a Realtek 1801(or somethin' similar...). And I searched google and found a WinXP driver for it. Then the ethernet problem was solved.

I also used the audio driver from turbo97se(really want to thank him/her! ).

Hope this is of a little help.

FINALLY spoke with "customer care" as Toshiba after weeks of on-and-off trying.

When I explained how they were selling a product whose OS could not work with the initial supplied RAM, they said they'd file a complaint and request with engineering. However, the guy said he dealt with this issue before and that there's only one recommendation to their customers - buy more RAM.

That's right. Instead of an apology for selling a product that can not effectively work, they try to hawk another three digits of costs to simply get their brand new product to function. Talk about building a loyalty base. So that basically proved what we suspected - Toshiba no longer cares about their customer base and will knowingly attempt to rip you off. I'm considering filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau if these drivers don't magically appear on Toshiba.com within the next six weeks.

I've had this laptop much too long to be able to return it. If you still can, the 15% restocking fee will probably be worthwhile unless you want to give in and buy RAM and run Vista. If you're reading this and have regrets about your Satellite purchase, take it back while you still can. I wish I could have. In the mean time, I will continue the frustrating battle to get this laptop to work to my specs, though I almost just want to sell it on Ebay and call it a day.

    Good luck everyone.

PS. I'm still having the troubles (out-of-sync video and audio, occassional lock-up and freezes, etc. from the other pages) if anyone has found solutions.

Oh, and I bought another gig of RAM for my a135-2276 and threw it in about a month ago. I can honestly say that I don't notice any difference at all. if it didn't work or was broken, I'd be seeing errors or the laptop wouldn't boot at all. I go under system and, sure enough, it says that I have a gig and a half of RAM, but I still don't notice any difference.

I'm bucketing water from a sinking ship here, guys. Anyone else have any insight into this phantom RAM? This laptop's just as fast as when it had only 512.

    Thanks.

Has anyone tried Linux's Ubuntu? I'm reading all this after getting suckered at Best Buy and the only quick option I see is Linux. I let http://consumerist.com/ know about the problem too.
I spent a few hours on the phone with both Best Buy and Toshiba today. Has anyone noticed that the A135-S2276 is no longer available at retailers? I asked the tech at Toshiba "Is Toshiba no longer making this model?", and she replied, "Nnnn...um...I'm not sure." She was one vowel away from a "no." Seems that Toshiba might have read the reviews.
I once liked Toshiba...not so much anymore.

    Oh, and another minor problem:

A135-2276 with the XP downgrade using the drivers from here (mostly from Turbo97), but my clock randomly slows and I find it several hours behind. Anyone else getting this or know how to prevent this annoyance?

This downgrade to XP is making me nuts. I got everything essential working on my a135-2246 machine but the whole machine seems to momentarily freeze every 10 seconds. Its most noticeable on mouse/keyboard but playing audio just stutters.

I tried several sound card drivers (including turbo), tried to disable the CFSServ.exe but that doesnt exist on my system and tried the synaptics drivers but i still have the problem.

Does anyone know whats going on?

I had the same problem. As I recall, it was Hot Keys causing the problem (and they don't work anyway). If you installed Hot Keys, uninstall them, reboot, and see if your problem goes away.

Ok.... I have finally read through this post... I have been sitting at the hospital with my newborn baby girl. We go home tomorrow. I upgraded to a gig of memory and vista seems to run alittle faster. But having problems with software is making the XP move very nice looking. I have downloaded several items but not sure that I have all of them. Has anyone put a list of all drivers that are needed or atleast a list of all the drivers that have been proven to work with the installed devices? If so... can anyone direct it to me. feel free to email me any thing or comments or suggestions to b_mcfarland at hotmail dot com.
Thanks everyone who has put effort into this work of art.

oh dear, Toshiba just released the newest version of this nightmare....the A135-2386. Exact same set-up, with the exception of the processors running at 1.73Ghz instead of the 1.6. I have a feeling we'll be seeing people that bought that machine on this forum any day now.

Hi everyone! I am a newb on this form. A national outlet replaced my brand X laptop after three years and many issues with this new Toshiba for no charge. I rolled back to XP Pro after playing with vista and not liking it. Thanks to everyone here and an additonal gig of ram I love this laptop. It runs like a champ with all the drivers found here, and disabling the hot keys. I have been repairing computers since 91, and own my pc/laptop repair company. To be fair I have notice every brand has good and bad products, and some models seem to be more prone to certain issues. That said I haven't seen any more problems with brand X as opposed to brand Y. I think it has to do a lot with luck of the draw. I still am missing the two drivers for the AICP in the device manager, and hope that Toshiba comes out with some drivers for XP. Thanks for all the help everyone. :)

Hey webazoid, I haven't had any issues with stand by, except once. It booted out of stand by to a blank screen. I did a hard boot and everything came back up fine. I remembered I had issues with stand by when I did a fresh install of xp pro, but that was before I got the drivers loaded. I am sorry this post probably won't help much, but my machine is running great thanks to the link you posted which got the last two drivers installed. OBTW you have to go to control panel and update the drivers from the file you unzip to folder for that driver. Good Luck

anyone to dual boot xp and vista? I tried out xp and it kept crashing despite the new drivers so used toshiba restore cd to "fix startup problems preventing vista from loading" (or something like that). so xp is still on my system...though vista is what's loading. anyway to boot to xp?

to lad drivers, go go device manager and click 'detect new hardware' and point to cd w/ the drivers.

Thank you to everyone in this thread. The link to the Archive with all the a135-s2276 drivers worked beautifully. I put 2gigs of RAM in this thing and installed XP and it works great. I also did an install of Ubuntu Feisty the day I bought the laptop and everything worked out of the box except sound. I decided to go back to XP because both Linux and Vista support for audio production is lacking in many areas.

    Hey Guys

Im having probs with the lockups/freezes, were exactly do you disable the hotkeys? I've googled and disabled any hotkey related setting or program I could find. It seems to work just long enough for me to get my hopes up and then it starts again. My multimedia buttons and a few Fn keys still work so I assume Im missing a setting.

    Thanks

As I recall, HotKeys is on your Add and Remove Programs list. Just uninstall HotKeys.

After try the following solution, solved the mouse freeze problem.
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=36509
    (Aubrey_Little's solution)

    - My keyboard occasionally pauses being responsive for a moment or two, which makes faster typing difficult and erroneous.

    - My mouse occasionally freezes and becomes unresponsive, whereas I need to hit a key or touch my touchpad to get it to wake up 9which is curious because I turned my touchpad off).

Wohoo! :D I Finally managed to fix the "mouse lag" problem with this notebook Thoshiba A135 and Windows XP.

In my case, installing the latest audio driver for Windows XP did the trick.

The one that it's working now in my notebook with no problems is:
Realtek Semiconductor Corp. High Definition Audio System Software Ver:R1.69 for Windows XP.

You can download this driver from Realtek's official site.

    Or here:

    ftp://202.65.194.211/pc/audio/WDM_R169.zip
    ftp://152.104.238.19/pc/audio/WDM_R169.zip
    ftp://209.216.61.149/pc/audio/WDM_R169.zip

I bet that installing the Vista audio drivers caused the problem in the first place. I tried every resolution posted here, but only installing these drivers made the system stable.

Well, hope it works for you too!

    Thanks Killian -

You gave me the first step in getting the audio to work. I used the r169 drivers, but still couldn't get anything.

Finally, I rebooted into Safe Mode, and then used the setup program that comes with the r169. When I rebooted, Sound!!

I have never been so happy to hear the cheesy windows chimes.

Then I used the Toshiba Software Modem drivers turbo97se was good enough to provide, and I have no more ? in my list (though I do share turbo's problem with sleep mode. oh well).

    Hope this helps someone.
