Does 16GB one not have BD Drive?

Also can you fit both HDD and SSD in here?

Unfortunately, 16GB version does not come with BD drive,
also, you can replace the Hybrid HDD and/or DVD drive with SSD/HDD.

Well if you can turn Windows 8.1 laptop into Mac OSX laptop then I suppose the answer would be yes.

Hi, Just went to toshibadirect.com and configured this laptop. Looking good! I do have a few questions:
1 did anybody ever find a hdd caddy that works? I did save the link that was on page 14 or was it 15, but even that website doesn't mention the p50t.
    2. I downloaded the data sheet from toshiba and it looks like it comes with a boat load of toshiba apps. Anybody know which ones can be uninstalled?
3 Toshiba offers the intel n7260 ab/b/g/ or the ac 7260 wifi cards. I've read on many other forums people are having trouble with both of these wifi cards. Any trouble on the p50t?
    Thanks!

    1. Since I do not use HDD caddy (yet), I cannot say. But it seems that one can work with no issue according to the poster.
    2. You could uninstall pretty much anything from Control Panel just like uninstalling any other app.
    3. I travel a lot, so far my laptop can connect to all cafe/shops Wifi network I have been to with no problem.

Hi xepher2014 , Thanks for your answers. On question 2 i wasn't asking how to uninstall the bloatware, but which toshiba branded apps are necessary and which ones i can get rid of. Thanks!

Chrome Tune is the one that is necessary , since it lets you switch screen profile.

Here is a screen grab from my laptop:

    ToshibaScreenGrab.JPG

Recover Media Creator is necessary if you ever want to switch HDD to SSD or if you want to do anything like that.
Service Station might be useful if my laptop breaks down and I need to chat with tech, although I have never use it before.
System drivers/System settings sounds really important and I definitely dont want to mess with that.
Audio enhancement/Display utility, couldn`t hurt to have those around.
Funciton key is also necessary else some keys on my keyboard may not work.

There are some other bloatware/programs that I have already uninstalled, the above ones are the ones left on my PC.

Where can you try this laptop? Is there a brick and mortar building any where where you can try it?

The same notebook will have very different model number depends on country.

IMHO bloatware problem on this Toshiba laptop is not as bad as some of other laptops I have used before in the past.
Anyway, I think you will find some info regarding drivers on PAGE 9 of this very thread.

Depends on your purpose, if you do photo editing, watch movies,....etc. Then 4K laptop will be good choice.
For gaming, Toshiba is NOT gaming laptop so you will need to look else where.

I have noticed this the P50t-b with 4K display is disappearing for a lot of Toshiba country websites, and also from market online stores. I wondered if this product is being pulled already? Maybe there is an updates resign coming with likes of a nvidia new maxwell to drive the panel better?
What ever it is then units are getting harder to find.

Lack of supply for IGZO IPS screen perhaps? Or maybe Toshiba is losing money on each unit they sell due to production cost.

    Sharp 32" PNK321 4K Ultra HD LED Monitor PN-K321 B&H Photo

Sharp IGZO 4K Monitor at 32 inch goes for $3600 USD, we are getting half the size for lower than half the cost.

But, if they are redesigning this and make a more powerful/better laptop, then it will be much better for all of us!

I had a look on the USA website, they have updated the P50t-B specs while reduced the price down to $1499 and adding a blu-ray writer. The RAM is less at 12GB but who cares, RAM is cheap buy another module. The processor has been updated to the i7-4710HQ model which is a slight bonus. The hard drive is standard and not hybrid, but not missing much there, especially if anyone is going to SSD it instead.
The original model is still available, although they say there is $200 off the original price of $1799 down to $1599. Anyone will be better off buy the Blu-ray drive model with the refresh processor and added an extra RAM module, not that it really needs anymore RAM

    http://www.toshiba.com/us/customlanding.to?page=p50t_laptops

When I took the P50t 4K back and waited for this years new stuff, it didn't happen, as the entire industry is stuck on Haswell, therefore not changing their core design much if at all. I ended up putting my money into a refreshed HP Envy (nice specs, terrible screen) over the last 2 days, now I see how crap everything else still is display panel wise, especially with the HP. I highly considering taking back the HP Envy and going back to the store for credit, and put back toward the P50t 4K, as there is still nothing as good panel wise for a windows machine for general usage (there isn't much to choose from at the actual store).

Have you tried using USB flashdrive instead of DVD for recovery media?

I was trying yo create ISOs instead of flash, ISOs I can mount and boot off Zalman VE 200
Some dual booting was being done at my end.
Now the program errors out as it says it cant find the stuff.

PS: Doing a VHD Native boot for Win 7 x 64 Ult SP1..

Native boot still gets stuck at "classpnp.sys' ... on researching the internet I find this is a common issue lot of people are facing related to SATA/AHCI and driver issues.

This TOSHIBA laptop BIOS has no such "setting" to change. What else could I do to change/ manage this setting?

    - I am thinking of doing a SYSPREP on the VHD inside either VMWare or Hyper-V. Since this seems mostly like a hardware/ driver related issue.

Is there anyway to make windows 'move' despite SATA/AHCI/ Compatability issue since BIOS does have any way to change it.

why is it getting such a low rating from trustedreviews website?

are scaling issues that bad? cant i just change the resolution to 1080 with a few clicks if i face some issues ?
are the reflections on the screen bad? cant one just put a non glare screen protector?
how are the speakers compared to other laptops speakers in the same price range?

finally, is this one better than the Asus n550jk with i7-4700 , 16gb ram, 1TB HDD, non glare 15.6' 1080p screen ?

    PCMAG - 4 out of 5
    Toshiba Satellite P50T-BST2N01 Review & Rating | PCMag.com

    CNET - 4 out of 5
Toshiba Satellite P50t review - CNET

There are other lesser known sites that gives p50t 4k 3.5 out of 5, but I would hardly call it LOW rating.

You can change resolution by Windows key + space bar at any time, even in a game (Tested with Assassin Creed 4).
However , scaling issue will be the same on ANY 4K laptop since this issue is software problem, not hardware one.

Reflections on the screen is noticeable when powered off, or when you sit at where light source comes from your back.
Personally, I think the speaker is excellent! It does wow`d me when I watch my own 4k home video that took from a camcorder that only has stereo mic.

It depends on what you use this laptop for, if you mostly play games then you need to look elsewhere. If you edit photo/watch video or movies, then this is great laptop.

i came across a p50 model today that has 500gb SSD. and costs 1750$
    processor: I7-4510U 2.0GHZ- upto 2.60 GHZ - 4mb cache
    hard drive: 500 GB SSD
    RAM: 16 GB DDR3
screen: 15.6' full HD 1080p touch screen

Non-4K version and sells for 1750? Definitely not worth it.
You can get 4k version p50t and change the HDD to SSD by yourself.

How intrusive or not intrusive is changing drives on a 4k P55T. What about warranty issues? Is it a CRU (Customer replaceable Unit) vs FRU (Field tech Rep Unit)?

I like the fact that it has 16GB and is $1300. But the 1TB HDD is 5400, so could I replace it with an SSD and rely on maybe external HHD or could I also fit in a HHD along with SSD (is there space for that?)

    I'm curious about this too.

Also what is the price of accidental warranty?

Please goto First page of this thread and scroll down to find your answer.
There is only one SATA for HDD inside, or you could get caddy and replace DVD/BD with HDD/SSD.
I have no idea about warranty, but if you are not comfortable doing the swap, maybe you could ask someone who knows computer to do it?

I see that the 4k Toshiba at Costco is out of stock.

Do you think it can be back at Costco at a later time?

Do you know if there is an alert system to find out when it will be back?
Wasn't the Costco just $1300, which is $300 cheaper than normal price?

Ok, curious to how well W8 scales text and web sites with non vector graphics. I see I would have to rent 4k videos, right, or up scale 1080p blue ray. Forgot to ask how nasty SD video looks scaled up?

Do I have to use 36 font size to look like 12 point fonts in word processors? What about printing? As said; forget about games. Cost.
How well do most graphic programs up scale to screen then down scale for printing?

Large pictures viewed at 50% on most screens looks very nice but this is only benefit from using 4K screen?

    Thx

Browsing web site is really depends on what browser you use , not W8.
I watch 720p video on it and it does not look "nasty" at all, it looks fine. Again it would depend on which media player you use.

You could run games on low-setting, just not in 4K res, but there is no 4K laptop out there can let you run any AAA games with 4K res at High to Ultra setting anyway.
Photoshop CC 2014 has HiDpi support, so it works fine now. For older version there is always hi dpi hack to make text look bigger.
For me the 4K screen is great since I own a 4K camcorder, plus my camera takes 8K photos.

Is there a way to finance this similar to how there is 18 month no interest financing in Best Buy?

No, it will not look sharp, nor will it look sharp when you play 720p video on any 1080p screen when compared to 1080p video.
