I heard the screen is a little dimmer compare to MBP but I have no idea since I do not own any Mac.
You should call Best Buy and ask them for the 2nd question.

does even 1080 not look sharp?
-
Anything far less than 4K is not going to look "sharp" on ANY 4K monitor/tv/laptop when compared to 4K video.
Anything far less than 1080p is not going to look "sharp" on ANY 1080p monitor/tv/laptop when compared to 1080p video.
-----------------------------------------------
On the other hand, a very high bitrate 4K video looks razor-sharp to the point where I can just capture a single frame and non of my friends can tell it was from a long video! -
does that mean you cant ever watch a youtube video insharp resolution anymore?
i guess a high resolution display makes 99% of youtube contents blurry unless you make it small? -
it looks like this laptop isnt goimg to be practical for most purposes (watching 720p youtube videos...)
-
Then you can enjoy the sharpness you want to the max! -
Heck, even most 1080p laptops on the planet isnt going to be practical for most purposes (watching 720p youtube videos...).
So your best action now is to find some 720p laptop, wish you best of luck!
Also, I will let you in on a secret...
if you watch 720p youtube video on 360p screen, in theory it will give you 100% more sharpness! Amazing, isn`t it? -
Can you pinch the screen and squeeze it to the iPhone and see it sharply?
I thought 360p screen doesn't exist and playing 1080p on 720p screen seemed to make not look different than 720p or look worse than 720p -
Will using a 1080p external work for iPhone
-
-
What I meant to ask was, what can you do to view 720p sharply on the Toshiba. Will using a monitor work?
-
-
720p looks non-blurry to me, not much different than watch 720p on 1080p monitor, that is all I can say.
You can always connect to external monitor with HDMI input, so yes, you can use external monitor of your choice. -
Agree, for photographers, this will be a very nice display. For me, myself and I, a test drive will have to do as most everything will be scaled up. My feelings are that digital screens and 24 megapixel sensors are overkill, in many instances, with cropping the main use of higher resolution. Unless we print 20 x 20 meter prints, no?
Lots of films are being shot with Red and other high rez cameras so I do enjoy the BIG screens at the theaters. When native 4K DVD's are mainstream and 4k sports broadcast are possible, then, I'll revisit Best Buy as my 55" Sony 1080P is 3 generations old.
Sorry, 2k-4k screens, scaled, will never be a choice for gaming unless the next generation of GPU's are now that allow 60 to 120 FPS native.
Thanks for the PS update, I'm still using old CS3..along with ancient D40 with 6 meg Sony sensor, LOL, printing 6x8 prints. Me dinosaur!
I think you made a good choice for your needs and you sure seem happy with it. Thanks for your very good review! -
Does anyone know what the return policy is like for CostCo?
Also what is the difference between P55T and P50T? (I bought the P55T from CostCo but it hasn't shipped yet). (The Kaspersky was shipped though)
It seems to me this laptop is only useful for someone who owns a 4k camcorder but I am not sure if I can afford a $2k camcorder right now... -
Laptop is what you make use of it, since you only watch 720p video then 4k is meaningless to you.
Samsung S5 is $99 at verizon with 2 yrs contract, and it takes 4k video too. -
For 4K resolution photo you will need 16MP camera, to take 8K photo you will need 36MP camera.
IMHO the monitor/display progression is just way too slow , 1080p has been around for so many years already, finally we are seeing some progress to 4K and hopefully with in 3 years, 8K. The faster the progression goes, the sooner we can all enjoy affordable hi-res monitor.
The latest graphic card can already run games in 4K with 60P, it is just way too expensive for now.

Adobe has photographer plan , you only pay $10 per month to use latest Photoshop and Lightroom.
If you goto page1 and read my very first post, there is a link which leads to some very very hi quality 4k videos, it will blow those youtube 4k away. There will be more 4k contents in the future, for now even the 4k video from my Samsung S5 looks very good.
Thank you for your comment, I wish one day you will be able to see what I saw on this laptop. -
Does that mean that an ordinary external monitor won't help because it's incompatible with the super dense 4k, which slows down the display progression, even for something simple as YouTube watching?
-
-
It hasn't shipped yet
-
-
I got my laptop today.
Could you recommend an external monitor to go with it? -
-
-
anyone found a fix for the brightness buttons not working?
-
-
I'm having wireless problem. It just won't connect to the internet and I've tried turning the airplane mode on and off but it won't work.
-
By the way, is it true that if the monitor cracks, you can't even use it with an external monitor because the crack will disrupt the touchscreen and makes the mouse pointer go all over the place?
-
no i didnt.
-
-
-
So is there some sort of warranty you can get so that you won't be losing the whole computer if the screen cracks?
-
-
Many of you seem to have this latop. So can you give me your thoughts on the keyboard and trackpad. The most annoying thing for me about some laptops is that the keyboards suck, and worse that the track pad is erratic. I'd love to know if you all are satisfied with these two elements of your system. And I guess while I'm at it, are you all satisfied with the quality of text when doing simple things like emails, facebook and web browsing. I'm not sure I fully understand the problem, but I've read that some people are having scaling issues with 3k and 4k screens.
-
As for the keyboard, it is ok quality. While it certainly works fine for my daily jobs with Photoshop/Lightroom/Adobe suite/MS Office usage, but I would not play games with that keyboard.
Trackpad is not strong point of this laptop. Compare to both of my 4 years old Asus laptops, the trackpad is better on the Toshiba, but not by a lot. It works most of the time, although sometimes it will read your single tap as double taps.
I would certainly recommend a good USB mouse if you can carry one with you, I carry a high precision laser gaming mouse with me when I am on the road, much much better than the trackpad. -
Yeah a mouse would definitely be the answer. The problem for me is that the most common way for me to use my laptop is, well, on my lap. Sometimes I'm sitting on the couch while watching tv, or maybe even doing a bit of work in bed before I go to sleep. It's pretty hard to use a mouse a lot of the times I'm using my laptop so I count on the trackpad. In fact one of the reasons I'm thinking about a new laptop at this time is because my current keyboard and touchpad have both gone kind of haywire. The cursor jumps all over the place when typing fast and the touch pad is sometimes slow to respond then jumps way too far. I could try to replace them, but the laptop is 6 years old and the battery is shot too (I only use it plugged in now). So while searching for a new laptop I'm particularly sensitive right now to the quality of the KB and Trackpad. Good to hear it's as good as or better than the ASUS though since an N550JK is one of the other laptops I'm considering. -
Toshiba Blu-ray Disc player isn't working properly often and works only after restarting the computer. For example sometimes it is all black and shows glimpse of the show when I maximize of in-maximize it, then black again.
Also are there any short keys to control the movie? -
-
Ok. Is there any short keys to go forward or backwards?
Also whenever I switch back from another user it frequently happens that the original user account is blacked out and I have to start the computer again..
Maybe it's because of the slow hard drive and it could be fixed if I switch the HDD into an SDD? -
-
Having trouble with the wifi. For some reason I get disconnected from the internet but not from my router. I turn airplane mode on and then off and everything goes back to normal. IS this a driver issue?
-
-
I returned the Toshiba and now have the $2000 15'' rMBA.
I realized that the Toshiba had better sound and better keyboard (the rMBA keyboard is not smooth). -
Hi everyone.
I got the P50T with the 1080p screen instead of the QHD. With the money I saved, I upgraded the HDD to a 1 TB SSD.
Apart from the screen resolution, the system is the same. -
IMHO, without 4K screen the Toshiba is no better or worse compare to other 1080P laptops.
But if one wants Sharp IGZO IPS LED 4K laptop with 60Hz refresh rate, then right now the only option is Toshiba. -
What about 4k Lenovo? Is that not as good as the Toshiba?
-
-
What would be the difference between 48hz and 60hz? Does it only show when playing games?
-
Also is it possible to take out the HDD and replace it with SDD on the Toshiba?
