I just ordered the Toshiba X205-S9349 from Amazon for $1849 (with a $100 rebate makes it $1749). I was so impressed by this beast at Fry's on my laptop shopping escapades yesterday I decided Dell could eat it (8/1 ship date became 8/28)! Estimated ship date is Tuesday and I got 2 day shipping for an estimated arrival by Thursday. I called Dell and told them they could keep the freaking 1520 Inspiron that all of a sudden will take another month to build (of all things, the stupid microsatin cover delaying it). I'm willing to concede the few downgrades (processor, HD rotation speed, screen res), but I feel like this puppy will be a nice long run replacement to my current aging desktop gaming machine (an Athlon 1.8 + 7800GT).
Any news on the 8700GT's overclockability? Sounds like the Toshiba stays really cool, so one would think a bit more could be pushed from the 8700... When I get it, that will be one of the first things I explore.
-
Lol if your getting a Toshiba you better change your sig.
-
-
Congratulations ! Let us know how it goes for you? There's been concern over the screen brightness.
-
-
Oh ya, congrats, it's still a blazing machine, one of the fastest dx10 laptop in the world. Until 8800M pwns it... but there is still a long way to go b4 those will appear. -
. I bet I can squeeze 5000+ out of the 3dmark06 and 10000+ out of 3dmark05. Obviously drivers will play into that as much as clocks, but hopefully some relatively stable well performing drivers will be out. Obviously this is all speculation (I don't even have a feel for the machine), and relatively frivalous - as long as I can play CS Source and Battlefield 2 with key candy, and crysis on medium - I'll be good.
Honestly I almost would have preferred a 1520 for size alone, but, ya know what, screw it, I'm not in college anymore. I'll just be lugging this around the house and to lan parties.
I'm sure the 8800M with pwn me, but I think with my current experience in gaming being a 7800GT desktop card, this mobile card seems to excel even past that card in DX9 tests. Who knows, maybe there will be an update to the X205 and a 8800M module floating on e-bay sometime. -

WOOT
Today is the day... My co-workers will get to oggle over my new lappy. Bring on the 2" beast! -
-
I am happy with mine, hope everything goes well.
Grats! -
Yay more toshiba X205 community members. I will also buy one as soon as Dell sends back my money, which will be hopefully next week.
-
Congrats!!! Having nonstop fun with mine. Nonstop. Haven't found one thing to complain about it. Then again, I'm not one of those people that go looking for stuff.
I'm actually typing on the X205-S9359 right now and I have to say it is a joy to work with. -
I had the chance to test this beast at a local shop and I'm blown away by the speakers. amazing! I think i will appreciate those speakers especially while watching movies and gaming. Can't wait to buy it!

Someone needs to create an official "X205 Owner's Thread".
It seems that a lot more people are getting theirs. Mine should be here Friday! Amazon had a shipping date of August 9th but I got an email that it shipped today. I ordered an HD DVD movie (just to check it out) and it was due to ship today, and the toshiba tomorrow - but I got emails today saying both had shipped. 2 emails for the toshiba and 2 for the dvd... strange... -
FYI, my initiall benchmarks, all stock: (sorry, synthetic only atm... reformatting after this post)
- 3dMark01 = 20107
- 3dMark03 = 13327
- 3dMark05 = 8729
- 3dMark06 = 4666 @ 1280x800, I'll do external monitor at the real res later.
- PcMark05 = 4986
Ok, I had to do a bit of overclocking... just to get started... WOW
705 Core, 816 Mem (Mem default was 700)...
3dMark05 = 9444
3dMark06 = 5244 (again at 1280x800)
Didn't even break 69C ... looks like my 10000 3dmark05, and 5000 3dmark06 (at default) might be in reach -
Just checked my amazon order tracker page..
Of course, my DVD is coming from Tulsa - about 200 miles away - while my laptop is coming from Sparks, NV
Then its going to Dallas... Then either Oklahoma City or Amarillo.... I love tracking numbers... what did we do before this? -
Update on OC= 720,820 = still not breaking 69C temps. Haven't benched yet, but I'll get to it tomorrow. -
Good news on the temps.......sucks that I won't have a hand warmer this winter.... -
Dont know why but my GPU temp is capped at 69c during heavy gaming with FEAR !! Thanks to Toshiba's excellent air flow/cooling design !
-
(although the GPU has more heat at the moment than the processor)

Please Guys add some pics and more info when they arrive. I just ordered mine also from amazon
thanks guys -
Is x205 really very thick? better or worse than G2S?
-
-
As a big fan of X205-9359, I am really looking forward to you owners' comments, esp. on the 17', WSXGA TFT' screen, on which there have been some different voice already.
-
Sorry not too sure what you meant....
How does the other feels, overall look awkwardly thick?
I am wondering how its size feels overall compared with other 17" lappies...
-
Just thought I'd post....

Never mind.. I'm sure my item isn't the only one on the plane -
FWIW - I emailed Amazon about their return policy on notebooks and got this response...
Greetings from Amazon.com.
The 15% percent return fee applies to returns that are received in a condition other than what is stated at the time of return. For example, if a computer/notebook stated to be functional is non- functional when we receive the return, or if a computer is returned without all of the accessories or manuals that originally accompanied it, we would deduct 15% of the item's cost from the refund.
As long as your computer arrives with ll of the accessories, in the condition you described, you will be responsible only for the return shipping fees and no other return fees would be deducted. However, I would recommend removing all personal files and programs before returning the computer.
I hope this explanation clarifies our returns policy, and thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.
Please let us know if this e-mail resolved your question: -
Issit there yet? Issit there yet? Issit there yet???

. I got my steam cache copied over, and somehow got Prey free when I put my Doom 3 key into steam (I didn't know you couldn't use your key from retail copies of ID games... oh well, not going to say no to free Prey!).
I ran some benchmarks last night with CS:Source, and got some weird results with the AA and AF cranked... I turned them off, and no problems. It appears to be a driver issue, so I'm on the hunt for some better drivers. Nevertheless, if memory serves, I was getting 151 FPS @ 1440x900 HDR enabled and everything on High. I think with everything on high and AA+AF w/ driver artifacts all the way up, the worst I saw was 54 FPS at stock clocks. -
Good news, i will pick up my toshiba beast at a local store in a half hour. expect some unboxing, notebook pictures and benchmarks this afternoon
any more wishes? -
Awesome Can't Wait!!!
If you can hook it up to a HDMI HD TV and run some games that would be cool -
The box is now behind me, and i will now start setting up the laptop etc.
that will take some time
unfortunately i have no HDTV to test this baby on...but i will make the more pictures instead -
. Oh well, I'm sure prey will look nice
. I'll get some unboxing pics and a full review up soon. My wife and I just got our new Nikon D40 camera, and I wanted to save the action shots until we got that.
-
Cool, cannot wait to see your comments and pics!
Moreover, could u say sth. about the visual effect of the screen? I am really curious about that.
Thanks, you X-205 owners! -
It is going to be fun to see your comments, findings and benchmarkings.
Thanks!!!! -
I just ordered mine yesterday and it shipped out today!!! I can't wait! Could anyone send me a guide of how to over clock the 8700-GT? Also, anyone planning on putting 4GB of ram in this mother?! I'll probably do it after having it a few months....(have to pay the X205 off first or wife will kill me)
-
-
sorry guys but i am very busy. i will post pictures and impressions tomorrow
-
I got mine in today!
Of course I think my boss know that today was special so it was a 13 hour day... I'm beat.. it was hot....
Initial Impressions...
The screen is fine.. its not terribly bright its not a deal breaker.
The sound is amazing - which we expected...
There is a lot of bloatware!!!
Its gonna take a while to get used to the new keyboard... it feels like a laptop keyboard... my HP felt more like a desktop keyboard....
I'll be playing with this over the next few days and posting more information..
If I'm off Sunday I'll probably reinstall windows vista... I hate all this crap on here... the computer feels sluggish but I've already uninstalled a few things and it seems to be improving....
(it took me way to long to type this) -
The screen is fine for me too, i like it. no graininess and lively colors.
I was blown away by the amount of bloatware that was installed. I installed XP right away.
The keyboard is...well...different. It will take me a while to get used to it.
I will post some pictures lateron. -
Tried the HDMI on two games. CC3 and FEAR. I will have to play with the settings on FEAR 'cause it's a little too dark. But CC3 was amazing. Way more colorful on the tv then on the NB. I played CC3 like I would with a PS3 or XBOX. I sat in my Pyramat chair and had just my G5 mouse in hand. I have to research to see if I can get the NB to pass sound on to the TV in game mode. But I do know that it does it does pass sound to it 'cause I checked the settings and did a test within the settings. The TV thou does not tell you what HD you're running at thou( Maybe in movies it will, I don't have any movies yet. Too many Blu-Rays). But it tells you what the resolution is. The NB automatically drops its resolution to 1366 x 768. You can put it back up to the highest settings but I noticed that one worked well for my tv and dropped it back to 1366 x 768.
It was amazing. I have a low level HD TV that can go up to 1080i so imagine how it will look on a SONY, Toshiba or Samsung. -
I can't wait! That's awesom that you can play games on your hdtv. I can't wait to see what tabula rasa looks like on this thing and my tv! Right now I'm typing all of this crap in on my phone because I have no computer since mine died! So I really can't wait for my x205... Post some pics
-
bump...pics
-
wow I guess that did sound bad...
-
For those of you saying your screen is fine, I'm curious if my screen is defective.
Does your screen look like the one on the right? The screen on the left is what it's SUPPOSED to look like after I color calibrated it using a Spyder Pro 2. The only problem is when I play games, the video card forces the old color profile, so all my games are tinted blue and desaturated.
Anyone know of a fix? -
I'm not seeing the blue tint... though maybe its just my eyes..... here's a screenshot (love the new snipping tool!)
Is it possible to delete all the color profiles other than the one you've created? Perhaps that would force the games to use the profile you've created.Attached Files:

Taking a screenshot wont do anything since its the screen that is altering the color, the system's color will always be the correct values.
IE: If you take a screenshot, then turned your brightness all the way up and made it all red using the color adjustment channels in the nvidia control panel, then took another screenshot, both screenshots would look the same, although your screen may look different. The screen is the problem here.
When I plug in my computer to a "good" monitor, such as my HDTV or my Dell 2001FP monitor, the image would look really orange (after color calibration), because the color profile adds the extra red/green into the data so it compensates and forces the screen to look correct (which originally looked too blue, adding more red and green would make it look more orange). But in reality what it's really doing is forcing the red and green channel way up, and lowering the blue channel so the whites come out white instead of white/blue.
To actually show me what color your screen is, you'd have to take a camera and actually take a picture of your screen -
Quoted my reply from other topic:
That´s bad news.... but in the other side, it´s good news because the problem envolves calibration issues and not hardware problems, and that can be fixed, maybe with an BIOS update.
Witch BIOS version do you have(most recent 1.50v)? Toshiba recently updated the BIOS of the graphics card, and that can solve the problem! (Updated: NV 8ESE VBIOS)
Justo download the BIOS update from here:Code:http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1817237&moid=1757703&rpn=PSPB9U&BV_SessionID=@@@@2091172446.1186996201@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccccaddljkdggjmcgfkceghdgngdgnj.0&ct=DL&all_docs=false
I hope that can fix it...
