The new drivers kill my power settings...the notebook will no longer switch the screen off after some preset time.

Could the new drivers could have kill something when it went BSOD during install....
I reinstall the Toshiba driver but that did not resolve it either.

Alan, I did get your PM, but here is the link to download the intel utlity that creates the drivers floppy for you: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng

or this link to download some of the other chipset - sata drivers:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...P+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs= 44&submit=Go!

    Good Luck!!

I've just read through all 21 pages! Good info, but one thing I was wondering.. Can you output the HD DVD content through the HDMI cable or anyother connection to a TV ?

Reason I ask is a friend of mine had another Toshiba with a HD DVD drive and it wouldn't allow him to do that. He could only play it on the Laptop screen. Is it possible on the X205, or is it a limitation with Vista or?
    Thanks
    -Gary

Ok guys. I'm at a total stand still.
Jesse helped me out with the SATA driver load and it worked great and I have XP in my X205-S9349 but, I have several Device Manager driver problems that I can't seem to fix. I have gone to Toshiba and downloaded all of the VISTA drivers but, none seem to take with XP.
Also, I went to Intel and got the chipset drivers from them but, when I try to run the video driver it tells me " This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit."
Any other video drivers that I have tried "seem to go in" but do NOTHING to eliminate the driver problem and my video is semi slow.

I also get "BIOMETRIC COPROCESSOR", "MODEM", NETWORK CONTROLLER (even though my NIC seems to work fine), PCI MEMORY CONTROLLER, VIDEO CONTROLLER, and last but ..... my favorite! ..... "UNKNOWN!" ugh!

Any suggestions? I saw where a couple of you are saying that you are running this pc on Windows XP. How did you fix the driver problems, especially in Video, Audio, and Wireless NIC?

Hope the answer is out there. Otherwise, I am going to have to return this X205 to Toshiba, as we are not allowed to use VISTA at our office at this time.

    Yes but only if:
    a) you use digitally signed (official) video drivers
    b) your TV set supports HDCP copy protected link

You should be able to use the drivers on the disc for things like the memory card reader, the touch pad drivers etc. for the Video drivers you'll have to download custom drivers for xp. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15611 there you'll find the drivers you need.

All you've got to do is

    1. download the driver and the moddified INF file.
    2. Extract the files from the driver file to a folder somewhere on your pc (easiest is the desktop)
    3. replace the inf file in the driver extraction folder with the modified one that you downloaded
    4. run the driver setup.exe file within the driver folder that you extracted all the files to and then replaced the inf.

All the driver does is check the list of cards that the driver is compatable with to see if your card is in the list. And since the 8700GT has no downloadable drivers in XP the modified inf file simply adds your GFX card's name to that list that is checked.

As for the other drivers you need to go to intel's website. The same place you found the sata drivers. You've got a pm965 express chipset type it in and see what pops up under support and downloads. But you have to get it from intel. Since Toshiba won't help with XP on this lappy.

Remember that you can mod the inf when you update drivers so that the HD DVD player and everything still works. PM me if you need to know how.

    Hi everyone.
I've followed the overclocking of BigRie, very nice one ! So, using ntune to oc my card i went up to 748Mhz/1022Mhz.
And I got the following results :
    for those who can't see the picture : 6337pts (SM 2.0 : 2830, SM 3.0 : 2695, CPU : 1728)

I don't Know if anyone went higher in frequencies, I've been using the 169.25Whql drivers of Nvidia, the basic 3dmark06 resolution (1280*900) and the temperature went up to 60°C.

My laptop is of course the X200 equiped with the T7300 and the 8700mGT 256MB.

Wow that is an awesome score! So is the X200 a European model? You should start a new thread in the gaming and graphics section to show it off. It's running nice and cool too, I tried OCing my SLi1 but it gets too hot.

Hey Jason0899 can I get some assistance on modding my inf so I can get some HD=DVD playback through my HDMI port to my Big screen HDTV LCD?

    Again, Kudos Cojy.

Hey all, I just tried using the HDMI port to watch an HD DVD on my Samsung LCD, but I get nothing. I disabled the tab that used to drop down from the top for additional functions like changing screens. Any idea how to do this without re-enabling that thing?

Hit start button, then I believe the Toshiba option then flash cards, should be an option to disable flash cards.

Unfortunately, I don't have Toshiba Options either. LOL I stripped it of everything I could to speed things up not knowing I would be buying a new tv so soon and wanting to use my laptop to watch movies on it. I thought there was a key-stroke I could use to switch it.

Maybe in the control panel , uninstall options and get rid of them, there supposed to shut down, when gaming they will auto disable. Also the web cam drop down is a real pain, it will shut a game down if you don't disable it by clicking on it and shutting it down. Should have kept the Toshiba stuff.

    Hello,
BiGg Rie, the spdif is better than the jack and it is using optical fiber to link the devices. So you need a special cable and the device you want to connect must also have a spdif input. Sound will be better, of course but in what (or which i don't know ^^) extend, I can't say. It will depend on the nature of the sound you want to hear.

As far as I'm concerned I always use the jack, but if you are a musician and want a perfect sound, maybe to work on it, spdif will get you less noise on the sound.

Thanks for the info, but for me it's not that serious I'll stick with the jack. My sound system is pretty good at simulating the 5.1 from the jack.
    thanks man.

    Hi all,
I tested to unlink the clocks of the card in rivatuner and it went well !
Assuming that we can't go higher than 756Mhz as far as the core clock is concerned, I tried to increase the shader clock to see what would happen.

So using these frequencies : 756/1552 - 1025Mhz (core, shader and memory clock), my 3Dmark06 score is 6400. I'm disapointed since I've lost a bit more than 100pts as far as proc is concerned 1795->1680 :(

    Details are the following SM2.0 : 2905, SM3.0 : 2732

    Then I tried : 756/1705 - 1025 and my score went up to 6631 : SM2.0 : 3056, SM3.0 : 2850
So there is a good potential of oc this way, since my temperature didn't go higher than 65°C.

im having some bad experiences with OCing now :( i OC'd my 8700gt last week and it went good for a few days then irratic behavior began. i use COD4 to see any performance and now i get this annoying have a second stutter at random times during the game. so now i must reduce my clocks. the only problem is, it seems like the stuttering wont go away no matter how low i put the clocks and the stuttering is affecting other games now (i.e. CSS) ...

im pretty frustrated now with all this happening. can anyone give me some advice? should i do a driver sweep (im using 169.04)? anyone have any ideas PLEASE help me

Ok so as far as fn keys are concerned, i'm experiencing some issues too (under xp). The put en old one is working but not the put on hold for a long time (don't know the english terms). Changing to another display works fine but I can't change the luminosity of the screen. To do so, i'm using the power saver tool given by toshiba, which is well working to decrease cpu speed when needed.

Oc the cpu is not possible at the moment, some people are working on it, i saw it on a forum, but nothing concrete. However the graphic card can be easily overclocked using rivatuner or ntune. Ntune if given by nvidia and rivatuner is independant, however far more complete ! with options to monitor your hardware and to tune it. I'll let you watch the previous thread for further informations.

As far as bios are concerned, you need to install them from vista, but they work really well under xp (and linux) since i've the 3 operating systems on my computer. However i would not recommend you to install it from xp, i don't even know if it's possible.

Yes the biggest issue is this.... i would like to change lcd brightness by using fn keys ... but it's impossbile.
When then i try to switch between lcd and external monitor it seems that fn key doesn't work (but i have not connected the external lcd..i'm only trying to switch) is it correct ??

Now I saw rmclock is working fine (with latest build) to underclock the cpu speed .But how can i monitor cpu temperature ?

So i'm going to download riva tuner .....

Which is the previous firmware release ??'. I would like to upgrade my 1.50 bios build but now i have installed xp and so i don't know how to do with latest bios build that is working only under vista.

Do you know some 3rd parts utils to monitor and manage the cpu fan ??

Thank you for your help ...

can someone set me straigt, i have x205-sli1 with 7250 cpu, and am very interested in upgrading the processo to the t9300 penryn, but when i go to amazon or antonline and do a search for t9300, they both show a mobile t9300 processor, 2.5 ghz, but neither says anything about penryn, the price is just over 350 dollars, am i looking at the right thing, can someone post me a link to the correct processor, is there a faster one than this that will be compatible with this laptop, or will there be one soon?

also, i did at one point upgrade gpu drivers with some from laptopvideo2go, which from what i can tell are the desktop version drivers modded to work with laptops, and had all sorts of problems, after that i had terrible performance, and couldnt get good connections with my dlp tv all the time either, not sure if it just went bad or what, it said they installed fine, and showed them as the current driver once i upgraded but i eventually had to do a complete reformat on my harddrive to fix it. I am not using acronis to do complete harddrive backups, to futureproof against problems of this nature. can someone point me to the link for the best drivers out there for the gpu, i have the sli 8600gts

also, i have tried using rivatuner and ntune, to overclock the cpu, but when i make the changes, and then hit apply and then ok, i can see it change back to the default clock speeds real fast before the window closes, what am i doing wrong here....

any help would be greatly appreciated.,,,thanks..

I have used 169.09 and 169.28, both of which had been found on laptopdrivers2go, or whatever that site is, i still have the files saved on my network storage drive, but havent used them again since reformatting, since i can now do a restore with acronis, i may play with them again... i have the stock 156.64 drives that came with the machine going now...technically it's 7.15.11.5664, when i updated, which was a couple months ago or so, and had all the problems, i did use the modded inf files that they provide also, so to my knowledge, im pretty sure i did the procedure correctly...

any clue on how i can get ntune to work, see my previous post for explanation of problem... or rivatuner for that matter, i want to be able to overclock and havent been able to either of these to work
when i try to use rivatuner 2.08, i can modify the core and clock speeds, save a profile with name, and then after i hit apply and then ok, right before the window closes i can see the speeds switching back to defaults, if i open rivatuner again, i still has the checkbox at the top checked to use custom speeds, but the speeds have reverted back to the defaults, and if i go down to the profile dropdown box i can select the one that i saved, but the speeds still remain at default, they dont change to what i had thought i actually saved them as,,,..its not supposed to do this... i am either missing a step, or something is not compatible

I have found the dissassembly guide for the laptop, i dont fear that at all, but when you get to the actual cpu, im guessing it comes out easy just as a desktop one would? or something more someone needs to know?... and when we upgrade the cpu, does the bios need to be updated? and if so, where do you get it, do you have the link? how far will this let us go, can we go past the t9300? I am not sure how to reasearch to find out if the newer cpus (mobile) are compatible or not, or if bios will support them..???

I have sp1 for an office update, but its not for vista, are you sure there is a true sp1 for vista? I have my windows vista 32bit set to download all updates automatically and then ask me if i want to install them and I am all current and it doesnt ask or tell me about any others dealing with sp1, other than the one for microsoft office, as i said earlier, where is the link to the sp1 that you are trying to install.... can you post that?

I just went to the toshiba support page, and selected my computer type and series, found available upgrades... and yes i have vista, but I did have a problem upgrading my bios initally, I had to use the option that had to do with "updating while still in window" and never had to make a disk or anything, it actually did the update, and then when it was finished, i had to reboot, but all was good, the recommended option of whatever it was, didnt work, so like i said, i chose the one that updated it while i was already logged into windows and it worked fine,... the bios shouldnt care whether you have xp or vista installed should it, that is just for your hardware of your lappy for the most part was my understanding, i was not aware that there were different bios versions for different operating systems, but I guess i never researched that in depth, nor have I had a problem with it.. hope that this helps some?

there is supposed to be a faster one yet available, is it around somewhere, when i upgraded my bios it said it would now support up to a t9500, so if I were going to get a new one, I would want the 2.6 ghz, over the 2.5 ghz once the price was right, havent been able to find one online though.. possibly not available retail yet i guess, or i just dont know where to look

Vista SP1 shows up on my Windows Update.
I had to install a new upek driver before it shows up on the update.
Took me about 1 hour to update, but at the end, it says Sp1 update not installed, reverting back...

I downloaded SP1 and had to rebuild my system afterwards. I'm not happy. Does anyone have that UK Toshiba website that I can get the XP drivers for this thing? I hate Vista

Has anybody successfully upgraded to SP1 from Toshiba X205?

Also, has anybody switched the HDDVD that came with the computer with a bluray one?

I installed the service pack on my x205-sli1, FZ180E, my x205-son's S9349, and my OQO Model 02 UMPC and all are still working fine and I had no problems installing the service pack on any of them. I did download the stand alone package instead of using the windows update feature. :D :p

I nstalled the SP1 on my desktop and wish I hadnt. Same old thing where stuff stops working correctly or act goofy or crashes. You would think Microsoft would have there ****e together by now. I wont install it on my X200 unlessI have too.
