Any idea when the new Qosmios, Q8102 or Q8104, will be available with the fixed chipset? I just asked a rep at the ToshibaDirect site and was told that they will be available again in 2 weeks. From what I have read to date, I thought it would be more along the lines of 2 months. I know that it is mostly guesswork at this point, but any insight would be appreciated.

I believe they won't be available for at least a month. Intel is producing the chipsets but they aren't expected to ship to OEMs until late February.

Just wanted to state, I forgot where I read this (did a lot of searching on the SB recall), but the LARGE OEMs [Dell, Toshiba, HP, etc..] will get PRIORITY chipsets over anyone else [Intel stated this]. As of right now, SAGER (small gaming laptop company) is EXPECTING to start shipping out SB laptops in teh middle of March.
custom gaming laptops - Welcome to Sager Notebooks

Since Toshiba is in the top 5 of Laptop powerhouses, I would expect them to have their chipsets way before Sager ever gets them. I do know that Toshiba does have to produce more laptops than Sager, but if Sager is saying middle of March, Toshiba should be releasing the SB laptops at least by then.

    KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED! :D

I'm saddened that there's been absolutely no word of an Amazon "Q8101" model...The Q8100 doesn't have a backlit keyboard either.

And the Q893 is completely out of stock.

I am about to cry :(

I order a Qosmio Q892 last Thursday from buy.com for the un-freaking believable low price of $979.99 shipping included as I couldn't stand to wait for the Sandy Bridge Clevo/Sager top tier models anymore. I only got an email today telling me that my order was on back order and I checked every other major retailer on google shopping and it turns out not one of them have it in stock anymore. I'm guessing it's been discontinued and we won't likely see anymore in stock ever. So i had to cancel my order.

I believe Toshiba only makes a Qosmio model for so long (the 89X version came out in October, so not too long ago). The next generation is the 810X series, which unfortunately has the SB chipset (and delayed).

I do sympathize as the 892 model was VERY popular ! (due to price and power). Walmart restocked on the 892 about a week ago and soldout in 2 days (i was surprised).

Sorry your order was cancelled. Hopefully the SB QOsmios will come out soon.

Here's an article that states some OEMs might reship the affected notebook with a workaround (already thought of and mentioned on this forum).

    Did you check amazon:

    Amazon.com: Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q892 18.4-Inch Notebook PC: Computer & Accessories8-1

Even Ebay (Please no comment about how ebay is a rip off):

Toshiba X505-Q892 Gaming Laptop Notebook Computer -New - eBay (item 170593903385 end time Feb-21-11 06:30:15 PST)

These model is still around, all you have to do is look closer.

The problem is both ebay and amazon have much higher prices. Amazon (actually an Amazon reseller as they don't have any in stock) sells it for $300 dollars more than I had paid for (I only now found out I missed out on a lightning deal from Amazon early december that was selling the Q893 for $899 :() at buy.com. Ebay is even more expensive. There were actually two models on ebay and I was sorely tempted by the one at $999. However note that both notebooks list a "special" order item that takes 15 days to deliver. Hence I question whether or not they have them even in stock.

Nice!! I really hope so. I was losing hope when I saw the new HP Sandy Bridge laptops go from a ship date of March 4th to 'Spring'.

BTW: The Dell Sandy Bridge laptops will by out by 3/1

wow. Almost worth just rolling the dice at that amount. Glad I didn't see that before they sold out, i know I just would have bought it and crossed my fingers.
You would think it has to be the defective chipset at that price.

Damn. My email must have tipped them off. The Qosmio 8104 now says it is deactivated. I think that means they pulled it from the site (as other "out of stock" items don't say deactivated).
Some manager probably just saw a huge surplus of these units and figured, lets make some money, without knowing why there were there.

I knew it was too good to be true.

Just chatted with a Newegg Rep (probably overseas anyways, maybe not aware of the issue).

    ANyways, here it is:

Seems like they don't care whether the Qosmio has the defect or not. AGAIN, BUYER BEWARE!

Well that sucks. You pretty much have to cross Newegg off the list of places to buy when the fixed Qosmios finally roll in. They may just stick you with a defect.

    So.....

Newegg sent me an email saying "Go ahead and buy the q8102", as they were unaware of any defects problems. They also said I could contact Toshiba American and confirm their decision.

So I did just that, I sent Toshiba America (Sales and Marketing Depts) an email asking if what Newegg said was true and if it was ok to buy the Sandy Bridge Qosmios from them.

As of today (2/21/11), the Sandy Bridge Qosmios (8100,8102,8104) have been pulled from Newegg. I guess maybe Toshiba set them straight.

There's a rumor going around that ALL SATA ports are affected by the recall (I can't verify this, as the person stating this is a reseller of ASUS laptops, and said ASUS told him directly).

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-reviews-owners-lounges/547044-asus-g73sw-owners-lounge-47.html

Thus, make sure you DO return your laptop once the fixed SB Qosmios hit the market.

    COME ON TOSHIBA!

HP now has SB Envy available for pre-sale, Dell has SB XPS available for pre-sale. Now we need word on SB Qosmios!

I did notice that Toshibadirect has "deals" on last gen Qosmios. However, the deals end 2/28/11. I wonder if the SB Qosmios will be coming out during that time. LETS HOPE!

I just noticed all laptop models effected by the sandy bridge problem have been removed from the Toshiba support site. I wonder if this means they will re-release the fixed sandy bridge laptops with new model numbers.

    Ugh, that's sucks so hard...

Basically, I'm waiting for the new HP dv6 which should be out mid-March. If it doesn't have a backlit keyboard, though, I'm probably going to want to go back to the Toshiba M640 and put an SSD in it (if you even can! I still don't quite know!). I've sort of told myself that this is a new computer for sophomore year and beyond, so I can (technically, although I don't want to) wait until summer. :(

Updates to the info I posted before.

I just saw this post regarding a similar post I made on the Toshiba Forums about what I was told regarding the SB Qosmio launch. This reply is from a Toshiba Forum Admin. (the forums are officially owned by Toshiba; not a 3rd party site).

Hopefully that means the SB Qosmios will launch sooner than Mid-April (for Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Newegg, etc..). Maybe Toshibadirect will get it Mid-April.

    FINGERS CROSSED!! :D :D

The q8100x (and q8100 recalled version), is NOT 1080p. That's a typo many sites have. In fact someone recently ordered one on here and he found out it's only 945p.

I wonder how long it will take Costco to get them? I still have my 8102! Do you guys think there is a big difference between the 8104's full HD screen? I mainly use mine for just gaming and wasn't sure if the difference in price is worth it?

I'm hoping COstco gets them soon! In fact, COstco just put on their site 2 new Toshiba Satellites with Sandy Bridge i3/i5; so I'm hoping the Qosmios are next!

If you want to see a FullHD screen, goto Best Buy and ask to see a computer with a 1080p screen. Then compare how that looks to your current 945p screen. It does look nicer, and crispier (and smaller). It's all personal preference.

I do know the q896/q898 Qosmios had a problem where the 1080p screen had a manufacturing flaw where there was a "faint" shadow/line 1/8" of an inch from the bottom of the screen. It's not noticable in windows [hidden by taskbar], but can be noticeable in Games/Movies.

Here's a couple links explaining it.

That really sucks! 1 month to ship a laptop

See if you can cancel and instead order the q8104X. It has only 2 differences from the q930X for $100 less: Has hybrid 500GB Harddrive with 4/GB SSD (SSD acts as a buffer/cache for faster access speeds), doesn't have Win7Pro. (instead has Win7 Home Premium)

    Hey

I've been waiting for Amazon to get the new Sandy Bridge Qosmios. A couple listings have appeared but I'm not sure if these are the Qosmios with the fixed chipset (mainly because the description is not typical of amazon):

    Qosmio X505-Q8102X??

    Amazon.com: Qosmio 18.4" 640GB 1: Computer & Accessories
    Is this the real deal?
