Thanks, but this is strange, cause in the reply we see the guy telling that he could use in 1600x900 at medium settings. And in other reviews, they can only manage to use at 1366x768 at low settings. And in the video he didn't tell if the notebook is with biosmod and the settings. Can someone be more specific please ? Thanks again.

AFAIK, the BIOS mod is not possible on that laptop, so how would he have tested with the BIOS mod?

In the video, the model was not informed, so you can't tell if is possible or not. And that guy (of this forum) have an SVS1511 which means it is possible, but still, we can't tell if he have changed the GPU bios.

If you are not talking about the latest model, you should specify. Otherwise, no wonder you get different information in different places :)
Last I checked the GT640 LE mod thread, tha current models of SVS13/15 could not be modded.

What are you talking about ? I just want to know how BF 3 perform on a non overclocked GPU. It doesn't matter if the test is from the windows 7 model, I just want a clean result, with no overclock.

What I want is to know how BF3 perform with no overclock, that means that I want to know how much FPS you got and the graphic settings, the only place that I have found it was in notebookcheck, and the results are not good, that is why I'm searching for more results. Unfortunately that guy in reply didn't told if he had already overclocked his GPU, look at his signature, it is overclocked there, but the results are ? And I can't understand japanese in the video so I can't know if is overclocked. I like seeing results of BF3 cause it is a very demanding game and of course, I play it a lot.

    EDIT
Sorry, the guy in reply don't have any overclocked GPU, but I still don't know if what he is talking about comes from overclock or not. I guess it don't come, but still, would like another answer, I mean, what he says didn't match with other things I heard (that GT640M LE could only run BF3 at low res and low textures and stuff), the only way that I could imagine to run battlefield 3 the way he describes, is overclocking it. Thanks.

    Morning S Users,

Got a Problem, looking for a solution. I have searched the thread w/ the search function to no avail. I NEED(would really like) to program or configure my ASSIST WEB and VAIO buttons. I've found a thread for programming those on the VAIO Z, but the paths as shown by Process Monitor 2.91 are entirely different than those on the Z. I have attempted to replace VAIOCare.exe in the ProgramFiles/Sony/ folder with the CustomLauncher.exe, renamed to VAIOCare.exe with ASSIST and VAIO files present(as per the intsructions), to configure only the ASSIST button (set to open vaio care), to no avail...

    help?

    thanks in advance

Why dont you do a google search. This laptop isnt going to perform extraordinarily different then any other laptop using i5/i7 and the Gt 640 LE. Asking the same question over and over is just spamming the thread. One or two people already tried to help.

For good gaming this laptop should be bought with windows 7 and biosmod to the higher clock levels. If not then look at other laptops with a GT650 and above. Otherwise

Thanks for the reply. I have a clean install currently but I still have the same issues with #1 and #2. I was able to fix the brightness issue though. Thanks! That got annoying. I haven't used bluetooth on my laptop yet, but I'll look into it.

If anyone knows how to fix the trackpad issue, that would be great!

Is SFEP and related "donno what they really are" Sony drivers installed? If Fn+F2 (SVS15) doesn't work, disabling it via VAIO CC always worked. You can also disable the driver itself via Device Manager.

BT is a HELL, the problem is not Sony drivers, it is just that BT is S*** when it comes to BT stack. I could not get my BT headset to work on W7 more than once. Broadcom/Foxconn reallllly need to fix that crap.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea about this issue...

I have the auto dimming of the screen feature turned off. When I switch to a program that is "dark" such as Photoshop, the screen seems to dim down. When I switch back over to a program that has a white background, such as the Google home page, it is obviously dim, but brightens back up almost immediately.

Is this just the way the screen works, or is something wonky going on with the auto-dim feature that is supposed to be shut off?

    Thanks

    Hello

Does anyone know where I can get parts for the Vaio S15 Laptop?

I need a bottom case and top case (keyboard part)

I have a hole in the corner next to the power jack.

I was quoted $488 for total repairs through Sony Repair center,

$200 of that was service contract!

    Hi all,

I'm trying to install Windows 7 booting UEFI, I've followed the guide on page 1 numerous times but the problem I have is that while my USB flash drive does boot it always gets stuck at the starting windows logo. Thinking that maybe installing from usb just isn't going to work I tried to install using the dvd, same problem.

It seems as though people here have gotten this working I'm curious as to how you guys did it?

Troubleshooting the net it seems I also need to enable AHCI mode in the bios as I have a SSD but that isn't available in the Insyde H20 bios.

I couldn't figure this myself, but it seems to finally go off if I disable any power features in Intel GPU settings (the one for when Plugged in! There is no setting for AC power).
I tried several other things suggested, but none of them seemed to make a difference.
If nothing else works for ya - just shoot the bloody light sensor! :) I intend to do that just that if I notice the dimming again.

P.S. W7 install here, there is NO auto-brightness in VAIO CC.

OK I just confirmed it isn't the Intel SSD which is causing the hang by loading the drivers before booting up the windows install.

So it has to be something about installing Windows 7 in UEFI that my bios doesn't like.

Not sure what's wrong... my laptop seems to have died overnight. I was using it Friday night, and everything was fine. Plugged it in to charge overnight, and the next morning it would not turn on. When I press the power button, nothing happens at all. No lights on any of the the LEDs, no keyboard backlight, no screen backlight, no fan whirr. Basically, it just sits there with no power. I did not make any changes to it during that time (no new installed programs or hardware)

    Things I've checked/tried:
Power brick seems to be working. The green LED lights up when I plug it in
Tried removing the battery and only running with AC power
Took out my second hard drive and re-installed the DVD drive, also removed the extra RAM. Tested both the main system hard drive and second drive. They both work
Called tech support. They had me do a "power cycle" which consists of unplugging the laptop and taking out the battery, then pressing and holding the power button for 15 seconds

Right now, Sony plans to send a technician out to look at my machine, but that could take a week or more. I was hoping someone here might have some input on what could be wrong and if it's something I could fix myself sooner. I do know how to open up the laptop, and have done so a few times already. However, I'm not comfortable with doing any soldering. Any help would be appreciated!

My SVS13A290X should be shipping soon (est date is April 4th... fingers crossed that it's sooner!!). One of my first tasks is installing BF3 and seeing how it performs. I'll run benchmarks at Low, Medium, and High (probably won't work on high), and I will let you know.

That said, I watched a fair amount of youtube videos and gaming certainly seems doable for just about every game. I know that this video is using a NON overclocked GPU, she didn't play BF3, but still some fairly recent games ( Sony VAIO S 13.3 Gaming Demo - YouTube)

Hello - Last Tuesday, March 26th I ordered a Vaio SVS13A290X, which is the custom 13P. They gave me an estimated ship date of April 4th, but the day after I ordered I got an email saying it was being built and would get a tracking number in a "couple of days"... it's been 4 business days and I haven't got anything. It seems like everyone's experience in this thread is that the laptop shipped before their estimated date, and quickly after they got the email saying it was being built.

Did anyone's order ship after the estimated date? Also, if it does ship on Thursday, will I get it by Saturday? I am traveling on Monday and have to have a laptop for work. I'm kind of stressing out about what to do if it doesn't show up before then. I'm in New York, btw.

Disable the option under power>battery in the Intel GPU panel. If you notice it happening with the charger attached (usually if you attach charger before waking from sleep) then reattach charger

Hmm, I'm a bit worried about this magnesium hand rest part. It seemed to be easily scratched. Currently, there are only very tiny scratches, but in time I fear it will look dreadful.

I think I saw a post in some of the Sony threads about somebody ordering some cable part from some Sony part webpage, but can't seem to find it. I wanted to check if it's possible to order the top case part separately so that I can get one as replacement when the current one gets too worn out. Thanks.

Does anyone know if there's any difference between the 2012 (SVS1511C170B) and 2013 (SVS1513C5E) models of the S15 ? There's a refurb 2012 model which costs slightly less on their store.

Update: Tech support came out and installed a new motherboard and power port. Not sure what caused it (maybe a power surge?) but it's back up and running :)

Is anyone still waiting for their laptop to ship? My estimated date was yesterday and I haven't received any shipping info. I got an email on March 27th say that it was being built and to expect a tracking number in a "couple of days"... it's been over a week since that email. I called customer service yesterday and they said, "congratulations, I'm pleased to tell you that it will ship today and you will get a tracking number by the end of the day"... and I got nothing. I have a feeling that if I call again they will tell me the same thing, but they actually have no idea when it will ship.

I emailed Sony, and this is the response I got, in case anyone is in the same situation or cares. Apparently, they bill you once they have all the components to build the laptop, which was on April 1st for me. Still no guidance on a ship date. I like how they make no mention of the estimated ship date THEY provided in the response email. It feels like they're putting back on me telling me to stop being impatient, when they missed their own deadline.

It's almost midnight on a Friday in China, so I assume it won't be going out until Monday at the earliest.

    ------

    Thanks for shopping with Sony!

I'm sorry to hear that you were not able to get any updates on your recent order for VAIO S Series 13P Custom Laptop Model Number: US-SVS13A290X-LBOM-2 with an order number of _________.

For custom VAIO, the build time would take 9 to 10 business days depending on the availability of the components required on your order. I do apologize for the delay on your order. As soon as your order ships, we'll send you an email which will include the tracking number.

I also checked your Sony account and it shows that a charge was made last April 1,2013. This means that a specific component necessary to complete the customization you have requested is now available for completion.

I appreciate your patience and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. If you have any other questions about your order, please reply to this email or contact Sony Customer Care at 1-877-865-7669. We're more than happy to help.

    Thanks for choosing Sony,

the CPU speed might have been bumped in the 2013 model by a 100MHz if i'm not mistaken, and you can't overclock your dGPU by modding the BIOS in the 2013 model. that's about it.

I haven't scrolled back yet but has anyone encountered an issue with the synaptics touchpad driver?

I recently did a vaio update for it on my Windows 8 S13P and now the pointer movement is hopelessly slow.

Not a big deal since I always use a mouse anyways but still a hassle none the less.

That's the 2013 model, right? I'm from Europe and I simulated a purchase and that was the model it showed. How long have you had it and are you satisfied with it? Thanks :)

Have you tried Mouse/Pointing Device Properties? When I first got mine I had some trouble with the touchpad being sluggish or unresponsive. It hasn't happened in a very long time, but when it did a quick reapply of the settings in Mouse/Pointing Device Properties seemed to give it the reset it needed to once again work properly.

So, every now and then I'll play games on my PS3. I'm not a gamer, by any means, and I sometimes I go months without even popping in a game. However, I recently tried playing the new Tomb Raider on this thing and I must say I'm pretty impressed. I didn't know what to expect, but I wasn't expecting much given the comments I've read about the Vaio S not being a 'gaming laptop'.
With that said, does anyone know of a way to get a PS3 controller to work with this thing? If not, any recommendations for a good PC gaming controller?
