You can't type the commands exactly as they are written, you have to cd a few times and also chmod +x the binaries

I finally got the new Synaptics driver downloaded. I'll post some of my findings.
It is a higher version (barely) than the one installed with windows update.
It takes about 30 seconds for the touchpad or keyboard to work after turning on the computer.
The touchpad will not work after waking from sleep, but the keyboard will after ~30 seconds.
    Edge Gestures are not supported.
    Tap corners are not supported.
Four finger swipe is not supported.
CPU usage is slightly lower, about 0.25%
I haven't found anything these drivers do that the old one's didn't, but it does seem to be missing a lot.

I switched back to the 17.0.19.0 drivers almost immediately.

Synaptics drivers are always a pain in the ass. They use way too much CPU for doing .. well .. nothing ... ah.. wait.. they call the registry a thousand times per second and i really dunno why...

Genuine Sony Keyboard Skin for Laptop VGP-KBL10/B

It wears out after about 3 years of heavy use, but I still like it. Keeps the crumbs out and pretty much matches. Just bought a couple more on eBay

Recently, I've been experiencing issues with the GPU overclock. I'm starting to throttle much more often. Does anyone have a disassembly guide, specifically concerning proper cleaning of this model? If someone can provide some pointers or has done it themselves before, I'd be glad to post a youtube video for a step-by-step procedure.

Yep, oddly it seemed to work for the first two sleep cycles (after restart) but then decided to stop working again. Really odd how they release a Windows 10 driver with NO WINDOWS 10 GESTURES. The Windows 8 drivers have more gestures available - hilarious.

I just opened up mine and found rather little dust inside after three years.
I used this video from the first post to open up the case. Once the case was open, you can just blow out the heatsink and fan with some dust-off. I didn't notice any improvements, but mine wasn't really dusty to begin with.

Hey guys, I tried to install Windows 10 on my machine SVS1511C5E and I'm experiencing very odd problem. I do a clean install, then I start installing drivers but when I try to install VAIO Control Centre I get a pop up saying that the newer version is already installed. I wouldn't mind but the problem is there is no shortcut and I cannot find it via search bar so I basically have no means to open it up. Anyone else had similar problem?

Okay this is really starting to get frustrating. Windows Update released the new 19.0.19.1 drivers today (the ones that were available on Synaptics' website and really suck, as described on the last page). Windows considered it an entirely new update, thus bypassing my "hide update" option and installing it anyways. RAH. NOT WHAT I WANTED. Do I have to spend 30 minutes rolling back to a better driver every time Synaptics releases some tiny little update?!

On a different note, anyone know how to use automatic brightness but make the default value like 10% higher? It seems to always be slightly too dim.

    Same thing happened here.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Hardware and Sound

I had to turn off automatic driver downloads. Maybe that will work as I too had the Microsoft "fix" and the synaptic drivers still went through :(

The automatic installing of these useless Synaptics drivers is "driving" me nuts as well.
It causes freezing upon waking, three-finger swiping is the opposite direction.

The "fix" works for a while until new versions of the drivers are released... I wish there was a way to disable automatic updates for drivers.

Yes I've used that tool but it only hides the current version of the driver. If the OEM updates the driver tomorrow, it is considered as an entirely new update and is no longer blocked by that tool.
It happened to me today as Synpatics updated the driver and was automatically updated. It forced me to uninstall it, then block it again using the tool and reinstall the old 8.1 drivers.

For anyone else having issues with the touchpad on Windows 10 (resuming from sleep in particular), here is the version that works for me. As icing on the cake, it has the superior old UI and all optional options present including the disable when external USB mouse is attached option.

    http://dl.weeaboo.com/Non-awful Synaptics Driver 19.0.5.0 x64.cab

    Just extract and run setup.exe

Yes! I had the same problem and I washed the entire palmrest with a soft cloth dipped in acetone (my wife's nail polish remover liquid). You have to be careful around the clickpad but it's not very difficult.

How about Miracast? Anyone managed to get that working?

We have Intel Wi-Di on our laptops but they should work with Miracast once updated to W8.1 or W10.
I think I tried it once but the laptop did see my Microsoft Miracast dongle but couldn't connect to it.

What is that I can output:
    1. maximum resolution on the HDMI port of the Sony S13?
    2. maximum resolution on the HDMI port of the docking station of the Sony S13?

I want to see if I can make work a 29" ultra wide screen with 2560x1080, or a 27" screen with 2560x1440, or only the 24" with 1920x1200.

Or what standard is supported by this HDMI port that we have on the laptop and the docking station.
I want to use the HDMI port directly connecting to the screen with an HDMI cable, without DVI converter.

    Thanks for your help!

Miracast works fine in both windows 8.1 and windows 10 with the stock intel drivers or the ones installed by windows update.

On my S15, the highest resolution supported officially is 1920x1080 at 60Hz. I know people have gotten higher resolution than that, but it might not be perfect.

You have to create a custom resolution in the Intel GPU control panel

1440p at 60hz should be very much do-able with a high grade HDMI cable and a forgiving monitor

Just play around with reducing blanking and increasing the refresh rate gradually. Treat it like overclocking.

Looks like Sony updated its Windows 10 page. There's now a model list but the 12-- series doesn't yet have drivers (expected, they said November). I guess people can try the other models to see if there is any compatible software updates though.

In other news, a new Synaptic driver update to install over my "do not install" preference. Thanks Microsoft.

    Also
This is in their "Limitations for Windows 8.1 models" which is to say they won't be adding Windows 10 gesture support ever for any model.

    EDIT #2:

F****** Microsoft, Windows Update just installed 19.0.15.2 Synaptics drivers on my machine. THESE ARE OLDER DRIVERS. It's like they decided to stop using 19.0.19.1 and put the old one back on windows update, WHICH ALSO IGNORES THE HIDE UPDATE OPTION.

Hey guys, I was trying to get some more battery life out of my machine and I noticed that i have this System and System Interrupts idle processor consumption that runs 10-15% of processor constantly.
After further investigation, I found that it is my NDIS.sys and also TCPIP.sys drivers that cause the problem.
I already tried everything to fix the issue without any luck. Even disabling the network card in BIOS doesn't free-up the processor. It is also present in the safe mode.
My machine is an SVS15127pxb and it's running win8.1. All drivers are up to date.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Does anyone have the same issue with their laptop now? Any ideas?

I am sorry people, I haven't read this entire thread and I have the Sony Vaio S Series SVS15113FXB laptop bought back in November 2012. I want to now install a SSD in it (either directly by replacing the main HDD or removing the DVD Drive, I am ok anyways). Anyone knows any link or tutorial which explains how to do it ?

Check on youtube or search for a service manual. But, replacing the HDD is pretty straightforward - basically, you just need to remove a few screws holding the bottom panel and you get access to the drive.

    Hello everybody,

I moved to win10 on an SVF13 flip (multi-flip) from a win8.1 installation. Everything worked fine, including the pen digitizer (you have to specify the tablet mode in the notification area to activate it) but the Realtek sound drivers went deaf. Following a suggestion, I unistalled the high-def realtek drivers and reinstalled the original 8.1 drivers over the win10 installation. Everything now works. I understand that the new win10 drivers will be available sometime in november.

    Good luck to everybody.

    Hello,

My SVS13A1T93 2012 model (Windows 7) works great on W10.
Of course, FN+F1 don't do anything, but this is not a problem as the touchpad disables itself on external mouse connected.

But my problem is with the sleep key (FN+F12), when I press it, the laptop hibernates, and doesn't go to sleep. I can't find where to change this behavior as the option isn't in Power Options... I can select the action on LCD Close, or Power Button, but not sleep button...

Do you have the same problem ?

    Thanks !

Just went through a disaster using the Windows 10 Pro 1511 update. Start menu and notificaiton center failing to open. Chrome and Modern apps failing to open. Restarting explorer doing nothing.

    Rolled back to RTM build.

I don't think it's the build so much as how they rolled it out. They pretty much installed this update like a new OS. If you want to iron out the kinks, a fresh install is probably the best way to go. I'm doing that on both my VAIO and my desktop this week.

Speaking of VAIO, did you guys see they introduced their first U.S model recently?

Yeah, you're probably right on that one. This poor laptop never likes the OS upgrades (meanwhile my Dell XPS 420 with a Core2 Processor eats up all the insider builds like a champ, and that thing shipped with VISTA...).
Not willing to go through the whole wipe/restore process right now as it is. Alas, because there are many little usability annoyances that they've fixed in 1511.

The new Z looks amazing. Unsure about the stand, but it has all the power that I love to see in original Sony products. Want to see if their promotions on the stylus hold water.
$2100 to start is pretty up there though. This SVS15 i7 was only $1300, $1100 after rebate.

I hope Sony updates the Windows 10 drivers for Window 8 models soon. I'm just going to use those drivers as the systems are practically identical. I keep checking the site. Wish the trackpad had gestures...

Hello, im in need of help
Im a Owner of a Sony Vaio S 13P (SVS13A290X) Laptop. As of today the Windows 10 Drivers were released when checking their website for my device ( http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/os...3=SVS13A290X&month=&day=&year=&mdl=SVS13A290X)
I dont need see the drivers to download onto my Vaio so i went to go use my VAIO Software Update or VAIO Care but i get an error message in the Automatic updates saying "Could Not Aquire The Information" and then sends me to this dead link ( http://vu.sel.sony.com/vuinvalidinfofile.html)

If anyone can help me fix this issue as i would like to update my OS from 8.1 -> 10. Surpringly it worked for me about a month ago and not no longer works tried to call Sony but they tried to charge me $69 to help so didnt want to do that.
P.S. I have tried Uninstalling, Reinstalling, Delete Files From Vaio Update to refresh getting files. All have failed
    -Thank you!

Getting the same problem with the manual download. I uninstalled VAIO Update a while ago so I can't check on that front. The most likely explanation is Sony simply jumped the gun on saying the drivers were ready.

If anyone interested for the Windows 10 update,
I've just updated my computer SVS13A290X from windows 8.1 to windows 10 using Sony Instructions ( http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/support-info.pl?info_id=1619)
I Followed everything they said and succesfully updated to Windows 10 with no problem
    .All Function Keys work
.Touchpad has no problem from Waking up, Hibernate or from reboot as i see others have had
.Vaio Update(OS Upgrade Mode) updated my sony "drivers", still need to check if it did because it only installed three updates from Vaio Care
.Battery Sheet works with no problem

I had massive issues with the 1511 update for both my lappie and my desktop. Did a clean install with both. Windows treated this update like an entirely new OS install, so if you are picky about how you receive those, you might want to do one too.

That's the install order I did, slightly revised from my initial Win10 clean install. Some of the drivers on Sony's support page are outdated and Microsoft does a **** job of trying to pick the right drivers. I had to disable updates for Intel gfx drives, network drivers, and touchpad drivers.

VAIO Care won't give you the best drivers, so I suggest not using it. Nor would I suggest letting Microsoft automatically update drivers for the VAIO.

I use these drivers for my Windows 10 install. Except for the Synaptics driver.
I let windows update install everything else including graphics and touchpad drivers and it all works great
Everything seems to work fine including function keys, external sheet batteries and switchable graphics.
