Process Hacker can show stacktraces of kernel threads along with their CPU usage - may help you to track down the culprit driver

For about 5 seconds after I wake up from sleep neither the touchpad or the keyboard work. But after about 5 seconds, everything returns to normal

Hmm... I have S13 with same bios version. I did fresh install as per your instructions but still no go for me using Nvidia Inspector 1.9.7.3. Only memory clocks change.

Could you please share your OC-shortcut, maybe there's something differently to mine.

EDIT: Ok, got it working... more on it in separate post..

Yeah, I had this problem with the Windows 10 synaptic drivers. I uninstalled them and used the drivers from Sony's 8.1 support page and now I don't have that problem anymore.

OK, I got overclocking finally working. Here's how:

    - Nvidia Inspector 1.7.9.3 wouldn't do it, I noticed that heywhitmarsh had version 1.7.9.2 on his screenshot, so I downloaded it
    - Version 1.7.9.2 required .NET 3.5 to be installed, so I installed it
    - After this OC works like charm.

I was suspicious if it was caused by missing .NET 3.5, so i gave latest version another try, but it didn't work. So it's version related, at least 1.7.9.2 can OC so I donn't have to revert back to Windows 8.1. Sweet 1,1 GHz GPU.... :)

I tried to use the Sony drivers, but I found that they aren't continuous. when scrolling. In Windows 10 apps, the Sony drivers scroll in discrete steps, where the Synaptics generic windows 8.1 driver scrolls continuously.

Thank you heywhitmarsh and JulmaHerra: thanks to your posts I have everything working on my SVS13 with Windows 10!

I am currently using windows 8.1 Synaptics Driver and they are fine but there is only one thing that bothers me; all FN+key are working perfectly except for the disable trackpad one (FN+F1). I get the Windows10 notification for touchpad toggle on/off but it has no effect on the touchpad. When no synaptic drivers are installed and the trackpad is working with the generic drivers it works perfectly instead. Do you think I just have to wait for Synaptic to release new drivers to make it work?

GPU OC works fine but I have to click on shortcut everytime.
It is possible to copy the shortcut con Start-up folder, but this way it works only with UAC disabled and for windows 10 it is a pain (no Cortana and no apps).
Has anyone managed to run the NVidiaInspector OC automatically at startup keeping UAC on?

Use Ghostbuster to uninstall all your ghosted drivers for your touchpad. When done, install whatever OEM drivers you want, then use this utility from Microsoft stop Win10 from replacing your OEM drivers. You might have to reinstall your shared libraries just to be safe. Your FN should work after that.

Before installing the OEM drivers i already wiped out the previous drivers and I disabled windows update for it.
I installed shared library after the oem touchpad drivers. Ghostbudter shows me that the status is ok. Maybe I did something wrong: does FN+F1 work for you and actually disables touchpad? If so, can you please tell me the touchpad driver you installed?

I first used this and then used this. [IMG] Do you have that icon in your notification tray? I'm pretty sure you have to have the most up to date control panel installed for it to work.

The only Win10 drivers I installed were card readers and gfx/phsx drivers. Everything else is from my model's support site.

Yes I have that icon and everytime I use FN+F1 windows gives me that message.
The problem is that it doesn't do anything to my touchpad.
I'll try to use your driver, even if they are for 15 models, thank you for that.

EDIT: tried with your driver and it is the same. I use FN+F1, windows gives me messages and it toggles but touchpad stays enabled.
Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

(FN+F1) works just fine for me, so I don't know what is going on with your laptop.

To run something with elevated privileges at startup
    1. open task scheduler and create a new task (don't select basic task). Name it whatever you want, but keep it simple. I'll use "NVIStart" for the example.
    2. select the "run with highest privileges" checkbox.
    3. Select the actions tab, then click new. add the path and start in directory like the shortcut.
    4. hit ok to save the task.
    5. Create a new shortcut in your startup folder. Make the target "C:\Windows\System32\schtasks.exe /RUN /TN "NVIStart" " and the start in "C:\Windows\System32"

The shortcut in you startup folder will tell task scheduler to run NVidia inspector, and hopefully overclock your GPU. I haven't tried this method with NVidia Inspector, but I use it to start other admin programs.

Fn+F1 works for me also, it has bit of delay though. I installed Synaptics driver before I even connected my laptop to any network but of course Windows Update replaced it with something newer as soon as it was connected to network. I uninstalled the device from Device manager, rebooted and then updated the driver manually to use old unsigned one and hid the update using tool from Microsoft. After that it works.

On touchpad there are still couple of shortcomings:

    - three finger flick doesn't work in all situations, like settings-screen
    - when three finger flick works, it works in reversed way, ie. when browsing through pictures or Internet, I go to previous screen by flicking from right to left or next picture by flicking from left to right which is IMO kind of topsy-turvy...

Haven't found a way to reverse it yet.

Pffft. 5 Hours?! I've never not once seen 5 hours on this laptop even with brightness at 0 percent. I'm going to reset my computer later this week and if this works I may cry.

On a related note, two questions. One, for the unsigned driver, are you talking about Synaptics famous driver rev. 17 on their website, or the driver on Sony's website? I've never gotten an unsigned notification on that one.

Also, do you have any idea for reinstalling the CyberLink player on a fresh install? Unfortunately I have a BluRay drive I'd like to keep working... but if it means a whole extra 2 hours of battery life with my extended battery I may just take that hit.

For anyone interested in this, I found a simple way to do it. Instead of creating a shortcut and placing it into the startup folder, we can create a single task that does all the work.

    1. Task Scheduler-> Create New Task
    2. Check "Run with highest privileges"
    3. Trigger "Log in"
    4. Action Tab: Startup a program and choose your nvidiaInspector path (No OC shortcut, the original nvidiaInspector exe)
    5. In the optional argument set the OC you want: for example I used
    -forcepstate:0,0 -setGpuClock:0,1,950 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,100
    to have 950/1000 overclock.

I tested it and ev the shortcut doery time I log on I have 950/1000 gpu without using any shortcut =)

I'm glad to hear that it is possible to get FN+F1 working; I'll try to figure it out, thanks for the input.

If you access from the tray icon you should easily find that menu.
1.Right Click -> Pointing Device Properties
    2.Device Settings Tab
3.Settings and then uncheck as shown in the image

Still no luck with the touchpad, it is driving me insane.

What keyboard drivers do you have installed/ghosted? Win10 wanted to download some Lenovo drivers which I had to put the kabosh on. Maybe check those too.

It finally worked: I did a new clean install following heiwhitmarsh's instruction to install synaptic drivers.
One little detail I did different this time is that when updating the drivers in control panel I used the one with "Compatible" in the name.
Now the switch is working, even if it has some little deley has noticed, but nothing too serious.

Yeah I noticed it and I already updated with them too, but I think the problem was which driver to select for synaptic.

One last thing: the lag for right click on desktop is still there in windows 10; I still have the fix for windows 7, does it work for windows 10 or you solved it in another way?

I create the shortcut in my start menu so that it shows up in task manager. I prefer it that way, but I probably should have mentioned that you could have task scheduler just run the program itself.

5 hours may be a slight exaggeration. I predictably get about 4.5 hours web browsing at about 30% brightness. If I only have MS Word open and I don't touch the mouse it can get up to 5 hours.

I am using the rev. 17 driver on synaptics website.

I have not even bothered to get my Blu-ray drive working to be honest. I have had the drive disabled in the bios for probably 2 years since I never use it. My two suggestions would be to try getting VLC set up to play Blu-ray, or get Media Player Classic set up to play Blu-ray. I have seen people have success with both of these programs. In the past I have used makeMKV to copy the Blu-ray to my computer and just play it with VLC.

Annnndddd well I used the Windows reset tool today and it borked it all up. Now I'm getting INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE blue screens on startup. I can still see the hard drive in UEFI however, which is a bunch of silly.

Currently trying to boat with a windows 10 iso off a USB drive. If anyone has any recommendations...

That option was not available on driver v17, so I uninstalled the old driver and installed the one offered by Sony. Now I got it working, also Fn+F1 seems to work as before.

Is your USB 3.0 or 2.0? I had to use a 2.0 because 3.0 was being goofy.

I think I used the USB 2.0 port but I wasn't really thinking about it.

Anyone remember how to remove the default Sony popups for brightness and whatnot? I prefer the Windows volume implementation. I remember how to remove the beep though...

Installing the most recent VAIO control center will remove the Sony popups and use the Windows Volume implementation.

Hmm, I believe I have installed to the most recent, early '14 I believe for my SVS151190X. But maybe I have to install the VAIO Update tool to get the real most recent?

I'll just uninstall VaioCC and reinstall if that doesn't work. Thanks for the tip!

What is the driver version of the one that is offered by Sony?
The latest one for my model is 16.2.16.3, which is from 2012 and doesn't work well for me at all.

16.2.10.5 is the one I'm using. It's old one from 10/2012 but works great at least on my laptop. No delays on logon or resuming from sleep...

When scrolling slowly with two fingers, is it smooth, or does it scroll in discrete movements like hitting the up and down arrow keys?

I ask this because when I tried the driver it did the latter, and I would rather my computer take 5 seconds longer to resume from sleep than scroll clunkily (<-- that's totally a word).

It scrolls with discrete movement, very small but noticeable increments. For me the problem was not the few second delay but three finger flicks working upside down without means to change it. Hopefully Sony gets drivers for Windows 10 in order rather sooner than later. AFAIK they are promised in November for models that shipped originally with Windows 8.

They are not cumulative, so you have to install the very first one, then each version thereafter.

I followed the upgrade instructions using the tool to hide the Synaptics update, removed the Synaptics drivers listed under programs and features, and installed the v17.0.19 driver included in the .zip file you posted. Now the Fn+F1 combo works and my trackpad/keyboard have no delay when waking from sleep, but I don't have any way to configure the trackpad. Scrolling works (using the right edge of the trackpad, not two-finger) but that's all. These are my only options in the control panel:

The driver is installed on the system, but not being used yet.
    1. open device manager and right click on the PS/2 Compatible mouse, select update driver software.
    2. Select browse for updates
    3. Select let me pick from a list of compatible updates.
    4. uncheck the show compatible hardware box.
    5. Scroll down to synaptics, and select the driver there, then hit next and follow instructions.
    6. restart your computer. After restart, the new drivers should take effect.

Does somebody have a scratched/damaged (silver) coating too? (and managed to fix it?)
I have the same kind of damage on the other side, so it's clearly damage from touching it. Which is quite remarkable I use it 50% of the time with an external keyboard...

I wonder if there is some kind of spray that can hide it.

this may have been answered previously, and i apologize if so but....

I have a Sony SVS151190X and the max output resolution via HDMI I can get right now is 1920 x 1080. It is an Asus monitor capable of much higher display resolution. Does anyone know what type of HDMI this laptop has (1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc) and how I can increase the output resolution?

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure the HDMI port is version 1.2.
It is not currently possible to output at a higher resolution that 1920x1080.

It is if you set the timings yourself. The highest I have got is 1080p at 108hz, which is a far higher pixel clock than 1080p60. A overspecced HDMI cable becomes essential in this scenario.

Anybody ever remove all the keys to their keyboard to do a little dusting/cleaning? After 3 years, I think it's due for a cleaning, don't want to damage any keys though.

EDIT: I just removed all the keys and cleaned up. Wasn't soooo bad. jjjjjhnjjjjjhyhjjmmjmkjkjkjmjjjjjjnjujjjjnnnnnnnjn

Took a little more force than i thought to remove all the keys and to put them back on.

Sony posted their update notes: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/support-info.pl?info_id=1596

The only issue for this model is the cursor freezing when waking from sleep.

Did you just pull them off? I'm interested in doing a thorough cleaning as well.

I watched this video for guidance. It's not a Sony laptop, but the key mechanisms are the same. I did the first couple with a flat tip screwdriver then just did the rest with my hands. Basically apply pressure to the top of the key and kind of peel it off like a scab. There will be a little resistance, but that's normal. Start with the QWERTY row and if you can get those off, the principle is the same for the rest. Don't pry the bottom half off, usually wiggling it off can be enough to get it off. The "F" and "J" keys look different from the rest, so don't freak out when they look different when you remove them. The larger keys have small metal rods lining them, just pay attention when you put them back in because they need to be inserted carefully when done. The rest of the keys can just be placed back on using a bit of force. You'll hear them click back.

After I put all the keys back on, I noticed my "End" key and "F3" keys were loose, so I'm going to replace them using this site (~$5 per key). I'm glad I did it. It's definitely cleaner, but I doubt I'll do it again because it was a little nerve wracking worrying about applying too much force. I used canned air, alcohol and a toothbrush to clean the board once I removed all the keys.

Oh, and about your cursor freezing after sleep, I bet you can fix that by making sure your keyboard drivers are correct and being judicious about your Synaptic drivers.

EDIT: Oh, and use this website when you are done cleaning to make sure all your keys still work.

Oddly I'm not getting the cursor issue at all - touchpad is usable literally straight away. I'm also not using the old driver workaround that someone posted

Looks like Synaptics FINALLY updated their website with a driver that might actually be signed (as well as Windows 10 compatible). I don't know if it's the one Windows update has been installing but I'm downloading it now.

Any status updates on the new driver yet?

EDIT: I still have not been able to download it. I keep getting a 503 server error.

Downloading the new driver from Synaptics web page now... it's going to take some time though, slow transfer speed and 150 megs. I'll post some results tomorrow.
