That's what I did. I had a first generation 32gb usb3 stick I'm using for that.

Anyone bought RAM for this from Sony? How much are they please (doesn't matter what country)?
thanks -
-
-
If I order one with large battery option, does it only come with that, or a large AND small/standard?
-
-
I did order a new Z today.
I have the old Z1 i7, but it is getting a bit old and unstable (heats up and shuts down no warning, the screen has some areas with "patterns" of stuck pixels or whatewer). Have been looking for discounts and "used"(returned) computers from Sony outlet store, did miss one with over 50% discount, but today a couple of Z13 showed up for a reduced price (but not 50%), but I jumped into it fearing it would be gone (I could wait for the discount to get bigger, as on the first I saw, but didn't take the chance).
Specs:
-FullHD
-Premium Black
-i7-3612QM,2,1GHz
-512 GB
-8 GB
-PMD with DVD
-Trådløs LAN
-WAN
-Extended battery
-Windows 7 Home Premium -
My specs:
Intel®Core(TM)i7-3632QM,2.2GHz
Windows® 7 Home Premium
Carbon Black
256 GB SATA Gen3 Flash SSD
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3-SDRAM
No Power Media Dock
33.2 cm LCD, 1600x900 Premium
No Wireless WAN
Long-Life battery
I keep thinking if I should not have ordred full HD screen, but somehow see no reason to have it on such a small screen. -
I ordered a very similarly spec'd machine as well. Everything the same as yours, except I got the FHD screen. I had a question to those who use the Z3 and have the FHD screen. Do you guys run at the default DPI (125%) or do you put it down to 100%?
-
I run 125%, when I first switched from 900P to 1080P I bumped it to 150% but some things don't scale so nicely and I quickly got used to it, so 125% it is.
-
-
I have 1080p and run at 100 %. I'm nearsighted so I have pretty good detail vision. For me it's perfect, just as much space as my old 1080p 15.6"
-
Thanks. How often do you watch 1080p movies on it? How nice does it look? I can't wait to get this laptop lol.

A question.
Has anyone tried buying a slim AC adapter for their Vaio Z?For my HP Envy, I had one that was modual allowing to disassemble it completely and it came iwth a nice case too.
Any pointers for something slim for the VAIO? -
The adapter it comes with isn't overly bulky. The power cable is what really adds to it. If you won't need to run the power supply a very long length, you can do what I do, and replace the cable with this:
Plug Adapter NEMA 5-15 Plug (Angled Up) to IEC 60320 C5 Down Connector Block Adapter - Our Item #: 3160, Category: NEMA Straight Blade 15 Amp Adapters : StayOnline
much more portable this way
edit:
even cheaper here, but not right angled

I found Belkin APA042EU/UK - anyone tried it? -
My original plan was to buy a new computer with 1080p and 15". But when I discovered that I can get just as much desktop place on this awesome small laptop I bought this instead. When multitasking with Photoshop, Illustrator, Word and browsing, it is very nice to have as much space as possible -
-
It's quite a bit smaller and slimmer, and comes with USB charging ports so I don't need to carry a separate charger for my phone/iPad.
I also use a retractable power cord to keep things tidy in my laptop bag. -
Is it not a bit too powerful, though? The Z uses a 90W adapter and as far as I know, charging a battery faster makes it show signs of wear faster too.
EDIT
I have looked at these:

When I plug in my Etymotic HF3 earphones (iPhone compatible), the sound is tinny and sound comes from BOTH my laptop and the earphones.
Apparently this is because the Sony noise-cancelling earphones have 5 pins and the iPhone-type has 4 pins (see http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...-through-laptop-headphones-2.html#post7931991).
Does anyone know where I can find such an adapter or is there any workaround to have iPhone-type earphones work properly on the new Z? -
-
I have to wait for my VAIO to arrive and see what kind of adapter it comes with. I will then buy another one as I need to have one at home and one at work. -
Just got mine Z3 now.
First impressions, compared to my old Vaio VPC-Z1:
-Wow, really beautiful finish on the Premium Black carbon lid. Doesn't seem to sensitive for fingerprints eihter.
-A bit wider computer than the Z1 (why didn't they make the keyboard or screen bigger - there is room?)
-The keyboard does not feel as good, light and responsive (missing a firmer feathering feeling), hope they will "loosen" up to get a better feeling (or I'll probably just get used to it)
-The trackpad has a surface layour instead of flat, I guess I'll get used to that too.
-The small charger is quit a bit smaller and lighter than the Z1 charger. And I can use my old ones as well, one in the livingroom, sleepingroom etc..
-The battery sheeth is lighter than expected (on it's own), and just turns the computer into a "regular" coumputer size- and weight wise. I will probably rarely use it. But really nice for trips where power is limited I guess.
-More quiet than the Z1 when not working (haven't tried with any load yet).
-Not as bright FHD display as the Z1 (1600x900) as I've read earlier. Would be good with a brighter screen just sometimes..
-Booting in about 30sec (including fast typing of login password, and 10 sec software loading and connecting to wireless after logging in).
These are just the very first impressions, I have only had it out of the box for 15 minutes.. Even though there are some small negative points, I really like it.
(might take some nice pics of the Z3 and Z1 compared if anyone is interested.)
What steps should I take to get a clean as possible windows installation?
Remove things manually, or install windows from scratch? (and which are the steps, where do I get the software etc. I'm shure this has been talked about, appreciate some links) -
-
I haven't even mentioned the performance, light weight or slim design, but that shouldn't come as a surprise..
(I ordered mine two days ago - great discount and instant delivery from the web outlet store.)
-
you'll get used to the keyboard quickly, or at least I did. I thought it was strange when I moved on from my Z1, but now it feels normal to me. The brightness too.
-
-
I think it's plenty bright now, it's just that the 900P on my Z1 was ridiculously bright, so comparatively it was less so. Now that I no longer have my Z1 and just use the SVZ, I no longer think it's lacking in brightness. I turned it down to minimum when used in a pitch black room.
-
Out of curiosity:
Is it possible to switch the FN keys to be used without FN and what is usually used without FN to be use with FN? My HP Envy has that option. -
Trying to do a clean install. I have installed win 7, and now I'm trying to install drivers, but I keep getting this message when installing drivers (on all I've tried so far!):
"This update is not intended for use with your computer model."
I have downloaded the drivers from here:
Sony : SVZ1311C5E oppdateringer | Last ned oppdateringer for SVZ1311C5E
I forgot to take a backup of the laptop exept making a recovery USB-stick. I read afterword that the drivers where on C (and I didn't have to download them). Will they show up again if I use the recovery stick to reinstall windows and sony stuff? I didn't find any place in the recovery steps other than re-installing everything, for example just installing drivers or sony software. -
Hey Guys. I'm set to receive my Vaio Z on December 6th, and have just ordered the 25-16 Waterfield Sleevecase for it. Has anyone used this sleeve for the Vaio Z, does it provide for good protection for this laptop?

Thanks a lot man! Helps a lot.
-
BTW., is the charger that comes iwth the Z13 a 60/65W or a 90W one?
-
^^ I have the same question as well.
-
Also, in reviews I read that the PMD comes with 'a more powerfule adaptor' which might mean a 90W one and confirm that the Z13 itself has a 65W one bundled.
Correct me if I am wrong, just trying to work it out and Uncle Google does seem very helpful with this. -
Do you have a PMD and thus need the ATI driver?

it's 65W for the SVZ charger. The PMD adapter is 120W.
-
Can you confirm what the exact ratings are? 19.5/3.3? -
yup, you got it right. 19.5/3.3.
PMD charger is 19.5/6.2 -
I just purchased a PMD with Bluray for my SVZ.Do I need to install any drivers from Sony site or it is just plug and play..
-
Do you have the stock drivers that came with your system? If so, it should be plug and play. Go into your Uninstall/Change a program menu in windows and see if you have any drivers by ATI, if so, you're good. If you previously removed them to install soley an Intel driver, then you'll need to uninstall the Intel driver and install Sony's package which includes both ATI/Intel drivers in one.
