Searching for a good travel adaptor, I have found this one:

    Innergie mCube Slim
    mCube Slim Overview

MCube is very small and 65W and still has USB charging.

Has anyone got any experience with it?

    EDIT
Either the Innergie or I will buy the Sony VGP-AC19V51, bigger and 90W, but Sony so one does not have to worry about the quality and such.

    Price is very similar BTW.

I've removed the recovery and boot partition, and is able to boot into windows successfully. This with the fast bios disabled.

Yesterday, while playing around with the Vaio control, I enabled fast bios and is now unable to boot into windows.

    A disk read error occurred.
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

    Any advise?

    1. Enable RAID prompt in BIOS and check the RAID.
    2. Check if boot manager needs to be fixed - use a bootable USB stick with Windows/ Windows PE or a Windows DVD and run startup repair. If that is not enough, you will have to run manual bootmgr repair.

Hey guys, I'm told the Vaio Z with the i7 3612QM processor gets pretty hot, is this true? Would it be problematic to use it on your lap. Would there be any differences between the i7 3632qm vs the i7 3612 qm. Thanks.

You won't notice any difference between the two processors in 'real-life' situations.

I have the i7 3612QM. Doesn't get hot most of the time, unless I'm running something that is heavily reliant on processor like Football Manager 2013. That is with fan settings on 'balanced'.

I wasn't too impressed with their repair service (UK) on my old Z. So if it was me, I'd push for a refund or exchange, not a screen replacement.

Yeah. I will try, but getting a new one built in Japan, is not going to be faster than getting the screen replaced in the UK - or do they send everything to Japan?

Not sure but build times can be long, so I see where your coming from in relation to that. I'm biased as my experience with their repair service wasn't great. Now I just realise I'm also evil as I have two for sale! ;) But on a serious note, I personally would get a refund or exchange, regardless of time but that is just me.

One of the Envy line. Not sure yet. Have to wait and see what Sony say. Whatever I do I am screwed. I am a contractor working in Asia right now and the Z was supposed to arrive with a friend coming from the UK right before Christmas. Now, I will not get the new one anytime near his departue and I will not be going home until March. I cannot get it sent as I cannot receive anything over 2kg or anything with Li-Ion batteries. I just have to fecking wait.

Ouch. The screen pic alone would have hurt, let alone time frame issue. If you don't mind a used one, drop me a message. You never know, Sony may have a Z in stock you want, from a cancelled order.

I got my SVZ1311C5E last week and was pretty happy with it until I had the chance to compare the screen to my old VPC21M9E and I have to say I'm really disappointed.

Although the Z13 is FHD vs the VPC21 at HD, the difference in brightness is ridiculous, as is the colour rendition. Whites appear bright and crisp on the VPC21 whereas they look bluish-gray and dull on the Z13. I will post some pics but I have to say they don't fully get across just how significant a difference the brightness or colour is.

I have also noticed that, for the same set refresh rate (60Hz) I get significant banding when taking a photograph of the VPC21 screen, and none whatsoever for the Z13 - any ideas why?

I just got my SVZ today, and I gotta say I'm loving it. The keyboard is the only thing that's gonna take getting used to, otherwise Im loving everything else about it. I had a very general question to SVZ owners. Do you guys power off your laptop everyday, or do you put it to sleep/hibernate. Also, do you keep the laptop plugged into the wall when it is turned off/in sleep mode? Thanks

Also, for those who have the 1920 x 1080 screen, do you guys run @ 125% dpi or 100%? I'm running at 125% right now and some of the text just looks off. It's bigger in some places than the other. For example the headings in the menubar for firefox are oddly large.

The PMD VGP-PRZ20A that a bought out from a fellow member on NBR arrived today. My SVZ13114GXX just came with the Intel 4000 and I was told to unistall it and install the INTEL/ATI package from Sony so that the PMD works. My question is > what should a uninstall from the Programs and Features related to INTEL??Also anybody with a PMD could link me with the INTEL/ATI drivers to be downloaded.

    Thanks

Do not uninstal anything. You can switch between the two, no need to get rid of HD4000 as that might cause issues.

Download the ATI/HD4000 package from the Sony website. Extract/attempt to install. See if that gives you any warning that you must uninstall something. I've never had to uninstall it or been asked to do so.

    Sony : SVZ1311C5E updates | Download updates for SVZ1311C5E

If you still need to uninstall it, go to Device Manager and click on Display Adapters, it will show up

Hey guys I seem to be having an issue with my SVZ. When i close my laptop lid and it goes to sleep and then I open it, it doesn't automatically resume windows. I have to hit the power button again for it to come back. Is there a way to fix this. I removed the hibernation partition, does that have anything to do with it?

Go to Vaio Control Center > Lid Action Settings

Edit: You might also want to check 'Rapid Wake', which is below Lid Action Settings

If that doesn't do anything, than most likely it has something to do with removing the partition.

I'm not sure if that is the issue as my Rapid Wake is disabled and I have removed the partition but awaking from sleep mode on lid opening still works fine for me.

This is likely a hibernation setting. You should be with "deephibernate" mode, sorry, I don't have the English translation, but the computer shuts down, the light turns OFF, and to power it again, you have to press the power button.

Antother hibernate setting allows you to re launch the computer by opening the lid. In this mode, when the computer is in hibernation, the LED will glow orange.

You can configure that in VAIO Control Center, you have 2 drop down lists to congigure that.

By the way, Rapid Wake works with deep hibernation (shuts down the computer).

In my case, Rapid Wake is disabled (removed partition, useless for me, I don't gain significant time with SSD RAID and Windows 8)

I enabled the Hibernation partition again and left the laptop on sleep all night. It was on the sleep for about 8 hours and the battery went from 80% to 74%, is this considered good?

If this is with deep hibernation (no orange glow light) it'es pretty bad, because computer is off (shuted down) and should not use battery.
    Otherwise, it not bad.

If its the bit I think your on about, I just use my finger nail. There is a little space on the sheet itself where you can put that little back cover.

    Thanks gamblitebeau,

Last question I promise. Are you using the feature in which the battery stops charging after 80% (I heard this is a good feature to prolong the life of the battery if you are plugged into power most of the time

No, I haven't used it a lot. But if you are planning on keeping the laptop for a good long while and use it off the adapter a lot, makes sense to look after battery. Obviously if you plan on taking it out for the day and don't want to take your adapter and/or sheet, it would be a good idea to charge it fully for such a time.

For all you SVZ owners, do you guys have Rapid Wake enabled or disabled? I have been told that Hibernation is bad for SSDs as it is continually writing to the hard drive everytime you put the laptop into hibernate. Rapid Wake does something similar I think, so as of now I have disabled Rapid Wake, and disabled Hibernation (removing the hibernation partition) I'm curious to see what the rest of you guys are doing

The VPCZ23 uses second gen i-processors, which only use Intel HD3000 as far as I'm aware.

Hey guys, I wanted to know approximately how much battery life you guys are getting. I have my brightness at about 50-55% and I am getting less than 5 hours (not close to what it is advertised at). How many hours do you guys get?

50% brightness 4 hours right? Yeah that's about the same I'm getting. What is with the advertised 6.5 hours? Lisa from mobiletechreviews claimed she was getting over 6 hours at 60% brightness.

    Same four hours here.

Anybody have Bluetooth working on Windows 8? Or WWAN? Or VAIO Smart Network? None of them are working for me. Bluetooth will not turn on because VAIO Smart Network never launches after I install it, and I can't find any WWAN drivers (Huawei EM680).

4 hours here as well...just got the new z3 last friday....man this is one sexy machine...with premium carbon fibre finish, this is in the league of its own..

i guess with the advertised battery life, you probably have to choose your power option to battery saving mode so the cpu clock is reduced...

with balanced option, my cpu clock always stays at 2.1ghz, with adaptive lighting enabled, i got 4 hours with wifi on, i am more than happy with that result...this is windows, no way it is able to compete with apple macbook on battery life...

Yeah, so it looks like everyone is getting around 4 hours, which I'm pretty happy with as well, I just like to get what is advertised :p lol. I'm glad you're liking your Z, I'm loving it as well. 4 hours battery on balanced with 50% brightness is pretty good add in the fact that you can just attach the sheet battery and get 8-9 hours with these same settings.
