Thank you for your explanation - I can understand the annoyance when newbies ask the same questions over and over when it's been answered already.

I have found all my other headphones to work with it, but just not the iphone 5 earpod - hoped it'll work because it has a mic.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain it again.

    Cheers

Calm down, you just have to follow the Windows 7 clean install guide. The problem for Fn Keys AND Battery error comes from the same driver : Sony Firmware Extension Parser. You have to install an executable AND another drivers manually. I don't have the link there, but, go back a few pages on this topic (less than 10), I gave 2 links to install them.

This audio thing they put in is really frustrating.
I just recently purchased a bluetooth (wireless) headphones and managed to pair to my laptop successfully.

But now the sound won't go through to the headphones even though it is connected.
I tried to test the headphones to pair with my phone and everything works fine.

Anyone have any ideas? Anyone tried using a headset/headphones with their laptop and have it working?

Any updates on the CPU morse code whining?

My personal experience is that this sound happens more frequently when using Google Chrome. When I switch to Firefox it dissapears.

I read that the sound could be due to the intel C1E speedstepping which changes the voltage of the CPU. I only get this when I have idle processes. Since Chrome is runing one process per tab + some for the different plugins I guess it puts some on hold and thus inducing this sound.

    My questions are.

    1. Is there any BIOS hack for svz1311 to disable C1E / Speedstepping?
    2. Has anyone heard any official response from SONY on this matter?
    3. Are there any other tricks apart from keeping the CPU occupied that helps this issue? (Power management or whatever)

Drivers are not language specific, they are available on the french site but will work perfectly on very SVZ from all around the world :D
The guide is here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...view-useful-guides-resources.html#post7921009 scroll down to Windows 7 clean install guide.

The guide works the same for Windows 8, except you have to download drivers for Windows 8 when it's possible, and get the Windows 7 version if there is no Windows 8 version.

But I insist, SEFP Drivers are critical to make Fn keys and a lot of other stuff to work. And you have to install BOTH of the files I provided some pages ago.

May the force be with you.

I wrote a tutorial, in French sorry, no English : Installation de Windows 8 sur Sony VAIO SVZ | ABCDEFab

But what will interest you is the driver archive I made : http://bit.ly/RuQQYW

Inside : All the drivers in the correct order.
All the drivers except one I didn't finf at the time : http://bitly.com/REC807 install this one at the end, it will be the latest "unknown device" in the Windows device manager.

In case you cannot install Windows again, try to folow what is Inside my driver pack ;)

    1. Not that I know of. However, there is a registry key modification that would enable idle processor state in power management. I tried it, it did work as the CPU morse code whining sound disappeared. But it will make your CPU to run at 100% at all times, thus increasing CPU temp and fan speed, and it would decrease battery life and maybe decrease the life of CPU fan.

    2. I took my laptop to the Sony service centre and they said if they had to put their head down in order to hear the CPU morse code whining, then it's within their allowance. As long as you don't hear any noise when using your laptop normally, then its all good. They also said that the computers now a days are so sofisticated, its nearly impossible to make a laptop that is noise free.
Just today, I went to a Sony store and the Z series on display has the CPU morse code whining sound as well. So I guess there isn't much that we could do.

    3. No, other than the registry hack.

I gave up on this, under normal circumstances, I don't really hear any sound at all other than putting my head down to the top left hand corner in a quiet area. The technician said they have made a record and if there is anything wrong after my warranty is expired due to this high pitch sound, they will take care of it for free.

can someone post their crystaldiskinfo information on their SSD with sony vaio z3?
This is mine when I received my z3 in early Dec 2012.

So I switched to using Firefox instead of Chrome but now I hear another annoying noise. I believe it too is being caused by power saving. I can hear a electrical humming noise when not using my trackpad. Continuously using my trackpad removes the noise.

Does anyone have input on how to get rid of this noise? Maybe writing a small program that fakes input from the trackpad every x seconds? :)

How to disable auto brightness on Windows 8 on SVZ?
Cant use laptop with such dark screen. If I make it brighter with fn+f6 the screen dims the backlight after 1-2 sec.
In windows 7 I was able to disable auto brightnes in Vaio Control Center, now I have no such option on Win 8.
    Who solved this problem?

That's a great list if you could only add the links for the drivers? I've some issues on my SVZ1311C5E too :|
ie. Intel Centrino Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + High Speed Adapter is crashing now & then and then OS disables it (I use it with my Bluetooth mouse) (driver date: 24-Jul-12, driver version: 2.6.23.40059). Perhaps there is an update available?

To make the recovery disk work, you have ti set the BIOS mode in Legacy and not UEFI.

Its set to Legacy allt the time, even my acctual win8 install is in legacy mode! The recovery disc boots, Vaio Care Rescue starts, but then i get that error.
I can add links to it and make a z3 svz1311c5e list, but you need to tell me when to install the SFEP driver, Hotkey utility, and do i need the second usb 3.0 and bluetooth driver??
The z2 guide also provides info on how to extract drivers from he recovery discs. I also made a USB version of it. If I could somehow recover the system from it, that would be great. I simply can't get past that error, sony support also has no idea why it isn't working :/ :( And what about vaio control center?? Is that to be extracted from the recovery media??

I forgot to mention that you have to dosable XHCI mode in the BIOS when booting on Restore DVDs (you can re enable it after restore).

I dodn't do a Win7 clean install (just 8 clean install) and with Windows 8, no need of USB3 drivers, Bluetooth drivers, just take the one from Intel web site.

Have you tried to see if your recovery partition still exists? ie. open Computer Management, then Disk Management. You should be able to see all disk volumes, even if they are not mounted.

No it dosen't. The whole drive was formatted. But why does a recovery medium that is 16 gb big, require a recovery partition which also is about 16 gb big??

Well they calculated that 16 gigs is enough space for recovery partition and you formatted your disk so your recovery partition is gone now.

So why do i need to make 4 recovery dvds that require the OEM partiton to go back to factory defaults?? Shouldn't that be the same content thats on the OEM? So when accidently i erase the whole hdd i can recover it from a usb drive?? Or is it something else, cause "why can't it find any recovery medium? The Partiton i gone, ok, but it bootet from a recovery medium so why the hell cant it find itself?? X_x

Where is the clean win8 guide? I have to install only one driver? Does the fn Keys work?? I'm gonna sell this sh!t, no way, it's a terrible nightmare. That's pointless. NOBODY knows how to install windows 7 on this machine, sony support, uk support, polish support? How can it be?? The recovery media dosent work, because the disc can't find itself in the drive? Its easier to instal Mac OSX on it than windows! X_x Or maybe everything is alright, and I am just mad? Having Hallucination? That would be so great...
    Thank's everybody for help!

You don't have to have the partition on your SSD to make the DVD work that insane lol, I used the recovery discs once, I hadn't the recovery partition and I had the same problem as you.
Except that disabling XHCI and boot mode to legacy worked for me :/

Have you tried another USB port ?

Can you make a bootable USB flash drive? To have Win 7 on it and install from it. All the Fn keys should work. I know Sony has a bit messy drivers' placeholdero n the net, but you can still get all the drivers.

    Mate,

You are the one who does not know how o do it, not them. For them the solution is to use recovery partition. You destroyed it.

There are guide out there, but for some reason you are one of the few who have not been able to set your PC up. If you do not know how to do things like that, leave it to professionals and take it into a shop whenthey will do it.

Yes, I did that, but just on the beginning of the installation win7 gets an error that it can't find a proper sata raid driver. X_x. I did it somehow before, putting the sata.exe file somewhere? And it worek, but now it dosen't:/ :(

If they are so great, why isnt the recovery disc working? Tell me, why i get this error? Because i dont have the disc from sony? Its the same content like on the OEM. So why can't i just download the oem partition disk image from their site? Why can't them make an OFFICIAL guide how to install the drivers in proper order? You know what, I even wrote to two post guarantee services that sony support recomendet me and you know what they answered me? Sontronic wrote me that with vaio hardware i have to contact the official support. Ram-Services in Cracow said that the factory defaults can only be restored with sony recovery CD's. But when i Asked, and posted why the recovery disc isn't working, nobody said why. NOONE. There are guides, i followed the z2 clean guide, but some posts before i asked when to install sfep driver, hotkey utilities and some other. If I knew what sony makes with the drivers i wouldn't even buy this laptop. On asus laptops, and many other i can install all the drivers in any order I like, and guess what? IT ALL WORKS!! Like from the OEM partition, and all the drivers are avaible on ONE SITE!!! ONE!!

Don't know what you're doing? Do not do it then. I have had other laptops too, and it seemed less complicated than here, but one day i will do a clean install and I see no way it will not work. But I work in IT, so when I have a problem I work on it until it is fixed, instead of shouting in a forum.

Well I messed up the cloning too, because Sony's particular partitioning didn't make it easy. That being said, I couldn't use the recovery partition after I formatted the original HDD, even though I haven't deleted the 2 recovery partitions. Anyway, I ended up doing a clean windows 8 install (with an old win7 + the $15win8pro option) and after installing all the drivers from the support site for my specific model, I was still left with a few unrecognized devices and a non complete Vaio control center. After a lot of stalking the forums here and other places, I found a solution and now I finally have a fully working win8 Sony system on an SSD.
Here is what I ended up doing:
I uninstalled Control center and installed 3 different drivers/applications and reinstalled Vaio Control Center and I finally got my options back. What I really wanted to get back was mostly the keyboard backlighting, but also the customizable Vaio button and the battery saver option, too.
    So here it is:
Per page 125 of this forum ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...icial-new-svz-z-series-owners-lounge-125.html), download and install the following drivers (from Sony's european support site):
    - Sony_SFEP_Driver - Sony : Mises à jour pour SVZ1311C5E | Télécharger des mises à jour pour SVZ1311C5E
    - Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device - Sony : Mises à jour pour SVZ1311C5E | Télécharger des mises à jour pour SVZ1311C5E

Then, install Sony shared library - Sony eSupport - SVT13116FXS - Drivers & Software

After all this, reinstall Vaio Control Center.
The order may be important, if not, at least the Control Center needs to be installed LAST.
Please note, I have a Vaio SVS151290X and all of these drivers come from other models as they're not offered on my model's support page, but I finally got my Control Center to be fully functional.

It's not shouting, it's a desperate child's cry! Set boot mode to legacy, boot the recovery media, choose "whole recovery". Its easy! But it don't works, simply, and nobody knows why! I'm a graphics student, I do 3d animation, I'd would rather prefer to animate and draw, rather than spending the whole life figuring out in which order to install drivers. X_x I can do a clean install on any windows system[execpt vaio laptops] in minutes and get all the drivers 100% working. If i don't know something I write for help! I don't know a lot, but it pisses me off that the support is soo dumb!
    I should have bought a macbook... X_x
ZippyBee so from the whole beginning:
    Clean win 8 install:
    1. SFEP Driver,
    2. Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device
    3. Sony shared library
    4. Reinstall Vaio Control Center? But with a clean install i dont have it installed. Does it need to be installed first, before all drivers and then reinstalled??

What about Fn keys? Does the Hotkey Utility come after Conrol Center or before?? Any Restarts??
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Also for the links, i have the 125 page pinned to my bookmarks?!

Yeah, I also tried with Fat32 and NTFS File Systems... :/ I wrote a long email to sony support, that probably wan't fix anything but at least now they know my opinion, which must be very important to them cause they have a lot of customer questionnaires

I really appreaciate your help. ...you really have to be an "IT pro" to install drivers... Like those sony ps3 cell programmers. Even they don't know how to get the real power out of it. It's enough for me to figuring out 3d env. problems and errors, dont need additional entertainment. If you can't do something straight foward and simple you need tons of bloat ware on your pc to make it work faster. Its so amazing that on the us store you've got an additional option called "Clean Install" for 50 bucks! Awesome! Dziękuje, Yeah, next time I go for the mac.
Looks like we've got an expert here. My bad you dont want to share you wisdom. So if you don't mind then please shut up.

I have the sony recovery partition backed up as an image file, if anyone can name me a good site for uploading 20GB, I'm willing to do it for the community benefit :)

Thats great, the same as mine, which is also from uk! :D Then any file sharing services... but 20 gb will require a premium account :| I saw people recomend skydrive. Maybe You could use google drive as well? Split by lets say 5gb? Dont know how much space is avaible for free. If it's not too expensive i could refund this :)
