    Hi Vaio-SVZ owners !!!!

For the few people having the "WHITE NOISE" problem : I finally got it fixed !!!
It took exactly 3 months but it's all good now.

Sony, after 2 returns for repair, have changed the motherboard and the problem is now gone.
So, I was right from the start : it was a hardware problem. Either the speakers, or the board. Don't know. Anyway, it's fixed.

If you have the same issue from the very first day (like me), you 'might' have a hardware problem too. Just check with sony. It can be long but it's definitly worth it.

    Hope this helps

I have the SVZ13114GXX and the pmd VGP-PRZ20C and I was wondering whether there was a way to make the power media dock work with windows 8. I want to be able to play some light games with it, but I don't think it is working unfortunately. How can I check if it is working and if it isn't, what should I install to make it work?

Is this the thread for the Vaio Z3 2012 model that is 2.5lbs? If it is, what is the default wireless card that comes with the preconfigured and cto models? Is it an intel card? what model?

    Thanks

i found that my svz131190s customized model is producing "high pitch" frequency noise when i put my ears very close to the top left hand keyboard area....muted speakers, disabled wifi, muted microphone didn't resolve the issue...

finally found the solution as it is related to when cpu in idle mode....when i force cpu to run at full speed at all times, the high pitch noise was completely gone...

    1. We have to change the registry.
Typing in the command line "regedit", you go to the registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Power \ PowerSettings \ 54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00 \ 5d76a2ca-e8c0-402f-a133-2158492d58ad

    2. Included option in this branch will enable and disable the idle processor. In this case, it should be included.
To enable one or another hidden parameter, it is necessary to find and edit the value DWORD, changing its value SettingValue from 1 to 0.

    3. Then, through the control panel - power - in the settings mode select power management processor.
There will be an option disabling idle processor and high pitched noise immediately disappears.

but i didn't want to disable my cpu idle mode as when i did that, the cpu temp went up to like 71 at all times as it is running at full speed....thus decrease the life span of cpu fan and also decreasing battery life...

my question is, should i get sony to fix it or should i just live with it? the high pitch isn't bad if i don't put my ears close to the keyboard...but judging by the amount of money paid to get this laptop, $2,000+, i just don't feel very satisfied that my laptop has this "high pitch" frequency issue...

Hey guys, same here - the USB next to the power is a bit loose, moving in out maybe 2mm, but it operates normally. Perhaps this is by design? I just can't believe they missed it so many times, now counting 3, perhaps many more?

My Z is June 2012, but bought it on the 18th of Dec.

i called it in to Sony VAIO support earlier this morning and the guy/technician on the phone said it's normal as the testing unit of the same model he has in his office is a bit wobbly too (moving in out). He didn't really say whether it was made purposely like that or not but some ppl said it's made like that for easy plug in and out of the power media dock.

also, did you notice high pitch frequency sound when you put your ears very closely to the "w" key on your keyboard? (mainly on the left side of the keyboard - from "t" all the way to "q")? Thanks!

okay, then i guess i should get sony to check my laptop to see whether that high pitch is normal or not. a lot of ppl said it is due to Intel cpu architecture and the noise is noticeable when the computer is in idle mode. when you are running cpu intensive program, the high pitch noise will be gone.

    hey guys,

I wanted to know if you guys calibrated your SVZ screen or if you're running it stock. If you did calibrate it, how do I go about doing this? And does this make a big difference in screen quality?

i had the "high pitch whiny noise" coming from the left side of the keyboard since i got it on first day with stock software...then i decided to format my ssd and reinstall windows 7 hoping for the problem to go away...it didn't...i can hear it especially when it's running on battery (even when i use ac, i could hear it)...

either way, i have tried to disable everything i can think of (wifi, bluetooth) and the problem persists....i know that both cpu and ssd don't have any moving parts, but indeed the "high pitched noise" comes from left side keyboard....its actually quite noisy when i am in a quiet area..

anyways, i am gonna bring it in to the sony vancouver service centre for them to have a look...hopefully they can pinpoint the issue and fix it if possible..

Still trying to figure out the problem of sound coming out both headphones and laptop speaker when headphones are plugged in.
Talked with a Sony rep and they said the laptop does not support any headphones with mic built in (ex. the Apple earphones with mic) and they mention that is why sound is coming out in both.

Does anyone else have this problem too? Is there possibly a driver to install or update to fix this? Because my older Sony VAIO S series laptop has no problems with headphone with mic.

As mentioned a bunch of times here, Sony used a proprietary jack which has TRRRS (tip-ring-ring-ring-sleeve) format, which pretty much nobody else actually uses. It includes stereo out, mono mic in, and proprietary noise canceling, all of which work with the included headset (made by Sony), but not with any standard headset I've tried. Though you can get just the headphones working in the way mentioned in this thread.

It's still a stupid, messed up thing Sony did to us - Sony refused to reveal the specs of this connector (I detailed my attempts to get it from them in this thread).

    - Tim

As for the high-pitched noise - do a Google search and you will find out it is a 'feature' of SandyBridge CPUs.

As forheadphone out - got my SVZ13 10 days ago and started using it with SoundMAGIC HP100 headphones - no issues with sound at all. Will try my Sennheiser MX980 earbuds when I get back 'home'.

    Third thing:

Have you guys thought about utilizing one of the card slots (especially MS Pro one) and keep a card in it permanently to use as extra storage?

    Hi every one,

To those who have the SVZ with Windows 8, I have a little question :
Does your trackpad works when you boot up your computer and you are on the login screen ? Mine is not responding until I login and wait for about 5 seconds.

Without the synaptics drivers it works on the login screen (but, useless because no Windows 8 gestures support), and with the synaptics driver, it doesn't work on the login screen (but works perfectly ater that).

    hey ;)

SD card storage is fine for files that you won't update regularly, like movies. For files that you update regularly, SD card storage isn't ideal, due to the no. of writing/reading cycles on SD cards. That is my understanding of them but might be a bit dated and too simple, if there have been new developments.

Yep, I am thinking about keeping movies on that, or music.

Question is - how much will the card stick out when I put it in?

How can I check that ? When I open the task manager, and open the "startup" tab I can see a "delayed launcher" when there are some Intel RST services" but synaptics is listed like the other without anything particular.

Synpatics is not listed as a service in the Microsoft console.

Yes, but have you gotten it working fully with a head SET - mic/headphone combo, besides the one provided by Sony? THAT'S what I want to know.

Nope, do not even have one. Have always used built-in mics. Does this not have built in mic next to the camera?

BT is an option in case of issues.

I can't recall if the onboard mic is disabled if a non-sony headset is plugged in, but yes there is a mic next to the camera I believe. I've ended up giving up and using a usb headset.

Some day if I'm feeling really motivated I may disassemble my Sony headset and use the plug it comes with to wire up a custom headset adapter after some experimentation.

hey man, my new sony vaio z svz131190s (customized) which i ordered 3 weeks ago has the same exact issue as you described....
did you ever get it fixed? either by specific driver re-installation? Or take it back to sony for warranty? i am planning to take it back to sony tmr and have one of their techs to take a look...
if you have any information on this, please let me know...looking forward to your reply...

ps. hopefully this is some hardware issue that sony is able to identify and fix..

They were included (laptop was ordered directly from Sony USA).

Remember, they are a HEADSET, not just earphones, since they include a microphone as part of them.

Guys, still having a problem with WWAN. I have Air Card Watcher software installed but it does not detect the SIM. On the contrary, Win 8 does and it shows all the info. I can even turn it off and back on.

What software for WWAN is confirmed to work on Win 8? Thanks!

Did you run the catalyst installer after installing the Leshcat drivers? It will create the installer usually in C:\Drivers\Catalyst, go in there and run setup.exe

    Hi All,

Just having a problem with the iphone 5 earpods in the jack - for some reason, the sound is played through the speaksers AND the earphones?!

I am aware the earpods have in built microphones, but it isn't even recognised as a device in use, and turning the speakers off mutes everything.

Really odd! Anyone got the same problem, and have a easy solution I am just not seeing?

    Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Just curious, but you DID read the very many posts made about this computer's proprietary jack format and how it can easily bugger attempts to use many other kinds of headsets, headphones, ear buds and what-have-you, right??

I did, but it didn't help. I'll try do it again. What upsets me is that on the PMD it doesn't say which graphics card is in there, I read that AMD Radeon 7670M should be there but I think it's 6700M series. CPU-Z says only AMD Radeon and memory size is like -18xx (minus nearly 2 gigs ?!).

Just a heads up for those wondering about microphones.

Last night I used Skype with my SoundMAGIC HP100s hooked up and was able to use the built-in microphone. Basically for me, there is no reason to worry about the whole headset problem.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I've posted on this at least three times. Might be hard to find for some reason.

Each part of a TRS (tip ring sleeve) jack has to match up with the TRS plug. If you have some complex and big one like the Z3 had, which is TRRRS (tip ring ring ring sleeve), each conductor may not match up properly, and thus not register as active to the internal electronics.

Add to that any smarts the driver for the jack has that is trying to read which conductors on the plug are active, and you can't easily predict how any given plug will work with the Z3's proprietary jack unless you know the precise wiring of the jack and plug, and how each conductor aligns internally.

I've found that some "standard" plugs on headsets work with the Z3, and some don't, so their alignment with the Z3's jack must differ, or their internal electronics differ (impedance, etc).

I'm no expert I this, so I can't tell you much more, except that Sony won't help (their techs have tried, but said there is no wiring diagram for this jack available to them).

Sorry for my annoyed tone, but 6 or 7 people have asked this question or similar here, and I have often answered.

    - Tim

Hello, please, please, PLEASE!!! Help me!
I made this terrible mistake, windows 8... I did a clean install[the first time] wiped out the whole hdd. Now its my 4th installation [2x win7 /2x win8]
not working: FN, Assist/Web/Vaio Keys, Battery Error, Windows Cant Update, Vaio Care also Cant update.
Is there a guide? I've found a z2 win7 clean install, didnt work for me, they require tons of drivers /apps, to install in a secret specific order. Nothing works, win8 is a piece of sh!t. Photoshop Errors Black Screen/UI rendering is terribly slow... I just have no words left to say. I'm so dissapointed, sony support is a joke, its not even support, its just sony depress line. Thats my first and last sony laptop. Can anyone help me? Get win8 or maybe better to get win7 to work? A clean install, so that i can sell it and the new owner of it want kill me because its not working? I got a svz1311c5e...
    Please Have mercy.
