Anyone have problems with their wireless card? Mine keep dropping the signal. None of the other devices I have do this. I can disable the device and re-enable it and get it to work again, but it's a hassle and the problem has interrupted downloads in process before. I'm using the standard device and software that came with the AW. Any advice is appreciated.

so why u saying bd rom is on other side then? when is on right side ?
normally u have to disassemble bottom purchase that cable what i showed you
    buy nice 2 x 1.8'' SSDs
    here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-41...Internal_Hard_Disk_Drives&hash=item51a5d16458

    or here

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-80-...Internal_Hard_Disk_Drives&hash=item460a9d8073

    or here

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kingston-...puting_Solid_State_Drives&hash=item231e146d41

make RAID 0 from those 2x SSDs and add 1TB HDD to the left as a your personal storage and you got to go
or if u want keep that intel SSD it is up to you ..

My fault - I mean, with both hard drives are opposite each other and not one over the other. Unfortunately, my English is not good and I have to use a translator :/
I changed my original, old Toshiba's HDD to the new Intel SDD.
On the new SDD I have OS (W7) and all the software. However, I would also plug the old HDD and put there other files (projects, music, etc). I do not want to make RAID.
Of course, I can remove the blueray drive and put in its place my old HDD. However, I hope that it is possible to use this additional empty space at the bottom and save bdrom.
I see that your laptop can connect drives on both sides of the barrier. Am i right?
I wish I could the same.

Already understand. You were right the first time. I need to buy this cable, which you showed me.
I have to think about whether to buy this cable makes sense, because it is not cheap. Replacing bdrom would be cheaper ... We'll see.
I hope that I can hook it up :)
I'll let You know if it worked. Thank you for your help.

PS. One more question - will it work with 2,5" HDD? I'm asking because you wrote "buy 1,8"..."

I hope their are still some of us out there! I want to keep my beloved Sony vaio desktop replacement VGN-AW110J . It works perfectly and although I have purchased 2 sony vaios since, none compare to these classics and I can no longer get one. I have all standard stuff but did upgrade the Ram to the Maximum a long time ago. I have vista home and am happy with that. All I want to do is upgrade the hard drive so I will have more storage space and I am wondering what my vaio can take and what to buy. What I would REALLY love to find is someone who loves this machine as much as I so and services these in terms of upgrading and tweeking. I am not a PC geek but have changed out drives before. Oh, I am also missing my #7 keyboard key and am wondering if I have to replace the entire keyboard or if I can replace only the #7 key. Please help if you can, I love this machine and want to use it as my primary again, just need a bigger HD. Thanks

    Hi,

I just would like to know if a final summary exists, of what hdds can be put in the Vaio AW. I tried to review the whole topic with google but could not really find useful info.

My current config is as follows: 2x SSD 64gb each + 1x 500gb storage hdd. I would like to extend the storage capacity, so just replace the storage drive.

I saw drives up to 2tb in S-ata II, like the WD Green. But it is 15mm thick !!! Does anyone know if it fits the AW storage drive bay?

If not, I will go to a 1tb 9mm thick drive, but I just wanted to know first.

And by the way, if anyone is planning on selling 2x4gb RAM, I would be happy to put a good price on it. DDRII Sodimm memory price is currently increasing (too much for me).

Thanks a lot for all your answers!

You should be able to replace just the key. You need to gently put back the plastic lever/spring mechanism and then put the key on top of it, press gently up to the end of the stroke and it will clip. Do you have a QWERTY keyboard and is the 7 key above the normal keyboard or are you speaking numpad key?

    it depends ..
there are 3 types of LCDs :

    * Eagle 1 CCFL 1 1680 x 945 WXGA ++
    * Eagle 2 CCFL 2 1920 x 1080 WXGA ++
    * Eagle 3 LED 1920 x 1080 X-black LCD with RGB 3chip LED technology

As far sa I know Eagle 3 has i think up to 2000 DPI ..

I don't know what kind of display I have.
Because it has 1920x1080 px and it is not LED, it's mean that, this is second option: "Eagle 2 CCFL 2 1920 x 1080 WXGA ++".
So, what DPI has this model?

    Hi
For all PPI/DPI questions us this handy link to determine specs of your lcd. PX CALC: DPI Calculator with Dot Pitch, Size, Aspect Ratio, Pixels, and Megapixels. When talking about lcd one should really use PPI term as DPI was always used in printing. So for 18.4@1920x1080 PPI is 119.72. The lower the resolution the lower the PPI goes.

GalaxySII - how is your acer in comparison to Sony? Screen quality is the question I really want to ask. Cheers!

yes, I would love to get the 7 key for my vaio. Please let me know how I contact you. In terms of hard drive, I want STORAGE. I am heavily involved with digital scrapbooking and collect them. I would like to have fast access to them when creating without having to find the disc or external drive a particular template is located. what I WANT is a 2 TB drive but I do not know if my vaio will accomodate one that large physically and memory wise. I am looking at this one:
Amazon.com: WD Blue 1 TB Mobile Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, 5400 RPM, SATA II, 8 MB Cache - WD10JPVT: Electronics
    and
Amazon.com: Seagate Momentus 1 TB 5400RPM SATA 3Gb/s 8 MB Cache 2.5-Inch Internal Notebook Hard Drive - Retail Kit STBD1000100: Computers & Accessories
and am very open to other good suggestions.
Can you tell me what you think this PC would work best with?
Yes, please contact me about the key.
One more thing.. I would really like to have the case itself replaced as the plastic vent (I am not sure what it is called but it has a gold metal thing under it and looks like it is designed for air flow)
located on the left side of the bottom of the unit's exterior has a few chips.
Now you see what I would really like to find a "vaio classic" repair guy? Sort of like classic cars but in the laptop world.

Hi Guys, I have a AW21S and I want to upgrade some components. I read that all VGN-AW support 8Gb Ram so I started with them and just today I bought 2 x 4Gb Memory PC2-6400.

I will continue adding the cable to connect 1 Sata and 2 SSDs 128Gb samsung 840 cause I read that is possible to set raid 0 for these SSDs, is this info correct?

I am interested also changing the CPU and after 1 day spent on the web finding informations, I understood that is possible to mount the X9100 that is the top compatible (socket, FBS, chipset, ecc) dual Core for our computer. I tried to find also info about the QX9300 that is ok about Socket, FBS, chipset ecc but i am not sure that the mother board (MBX-194) support the QuadCore CPU. Do you have some information about or do you know someone who did this upgrade?

    Thanks a lot...

The fan on my AW 290j ramps up and down a lot. Would an SSD have any impact on this at all? It's annoying, but I don't want to replace the hdd's if it's not going to make a difference. Thanks

    Hello everyone!
I need help. So my Sony aw 120 j is dead :( . The power port has been cracked/ shaky for a while & finally stopped allowing for a charge.

So i opened her up last night and confirmed the break....right by the screw. I've looked everywhere but can't seem to find the part or number to replace. Has anyone done this repair recently? How hard is it to do?

My next question is: I am looking to upgrade my aw once the socket is repaired. It's standard specs except a minor upgrade of 4gigs ram. What are my max upgrade options? Can it be done in bits? What can I upgrade first? Part recommendations would so be appreciated.

Thanks and sorry for the many questions!
Yay!!!! I love my aw! lol
