Get me the hardward Id from Device Manager and I'll look into it and see if I can mod it.

Sigh... I've removed everything I feel knowledgeable enough to do without and it hasn't improved the noise even minimally. I know it was a long shot but i was hoping for something. The whir lives on... can even feel it through the keyboard. It did bring my idle/browsing CPU down to like 2-3% though, which is good, I guess?
Just wondering, is 25-35% RAM usage about right when all I'm doing is browsing with a few tabs? (i'm so clueless) -
im having quality issues with dvd rips and blu ray rips, the quality isnt the same as it is on my brothers dell xps, is there anyway to improve the quality, i thought the screen was top for movies.

these are ripped straight from the disks and compressed, but the quality still should be great shouldnt it, thats why its a full hd laptop.

Navigate to:
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\260.89\Vista 64-bit\International\Display.Driver
Look for ListDevices and you can search the model of your GPU and you can search the hardware id of DEV_0A29&SUBSYS_9067104D, which is the most important. It states that the driver (* correction - the compatibility check info) for your GPU is in NVSZC.INF If you look in that file, you'll see your GPU and hardware Id again. I don't know why you're getting a compatibility issue.
Try this. Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters > NVIDIA GeForce 330M > right click and select Update Driver Software > Browse My Computer For Software > Browse as close as you can to the folder listed above. This should allow you to install the new driver. This is how we have to do it for WinXP and the VAIO F.
Let me know if this works. -

Yes, you're ripping directly from the discs, but when you compress them to smaller file sizes you lose data (quality).
Download DVDFab8 and do a 30day trial of the software. It's quite good. You can do BluRay Copy and select Main Movie. It will rip the files exactly as they are on the disc. For bluray, this is .m2ts
If you compress to a different file type, such as .avi or other HD types, they are still compressed and therefore lower quality.
The fact that your screen is full HD is completely irrelevant to your concern. That it's full HD only means that it is 1920x1080 resolution and is capable of playing video that has the same output.
Again, once you compress the movies, they are no longer fully HD.
Try this. Use the DVD Copy option, insert a DVD and CLONE it. Cancel the process after the ripping portion is done. Navigate to the temp file. Usually My Documents > DvdFab... > Temp > Clone. In there you'll find the .iso for the disc you just ripped. You can right click and open it with VLC. It will play EXACTLY like if the DVD were inserted and being read, cuz well... it is... in a way. .iso's are much larger than the compressions you're doing. It's the price you pay. -
This may have been asked before but when is the F series likely to receive an update?
I gather the last one was in June, it is now late October, which is roughly 4 months. Will it be before the new year?

hey ANSEIO, I'm using DVDfab 8 too.
just burned my first BD last night, but not without some trouble. I started separate thread in Sony forum, related toDVDfab, BD and F burners. Mind checking it out please? You might be able to help me.

Few things I've noticed about my new F13:
1) For some reason it just says "VPCF1" in the little 'model #' box under the lower right corner of the monitor. VAIO Control Center and the label on the bottom of my laptop both say "VPCF1390X", so I know it's definitely an F13. Not a big deal, just curious if anyone else's is like this too or if they just goofed at the factory lol
2) Apparently randomly sometimes adjusting the brightness won't work (using the Fn+F5/F6 keys). The brightness meter shows up on screen going up or down as I press the keys but the screen remains lit the same brightness. A restart fixed it the first time, and the second time the problem just sort of "went away" after a few minutes. Any ideas? -
1) I noticed that as well with the F13 when I checked it out at the Sony store. I think that's a new development, as the older models (F11/12) have the full model number on the bottom right. Perhaps just printing the prefix and series only will save printing costs?
2) Have you adjusted the Automatic Brightness setting yet?
Press S1 button > Display > Automatic Brightness Settings > uncheck Adjust brightness automatically. This should solve your problem. -
^Automatic brightness has been disabled from the get-go, that was one of the first things I did.

I can attach that file OR you can download the driver pack again from NVIDIA. Seems like they fixed it, cuz I got it all on the first time.
www.nvidia.com > Download Drivers > Download Drivers:
Product Type: GeForce
Product Series: GeForce 300M Series (Notebook)
Product: GeForce GT 330M
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit

So I asked this in the Windows OS forum yesterday but got no answers, which makes me think the answer is no, but thought I'd ask here just in case.
Is there anything I can do to make my 5 year old TV Tuner work with Windows 7 Home? It's an Adaptec VideOh DVD Media Center USB TV Tuner AVC-2310. Adaptec no longer supports it and does not have Win7 drivers, only Win2K and XP. Thanks. -

She said that she didn't know what was being upgraded on it. I mean at least I have a date in mind, but I needed a laptop ASAP for school so I'm not going to wait till Christmas to get some minor updates..

anseio, hows the quality of watching videos on your screen and just viewing it generally. I still think its a very good screen for full hd anyway. For me viewing websites is fine.

I've been accurately predicting the features and release days of the F-series since February. I have no info on the F14, but F13 added a major feature in USB3, beating most laptops to market. Future F's will reflect the technology that is being introduced to PCs in general, such as new types of BIOS that get away from the DOS PC legacy, 3D displays, etc.
There will always be a "better" computer in the next version. I bought my F11 right at the beginning, and I remain delighted with it. I've had 8 months of use that would not have existed if I'd "waited." -
Omaroonie - I don't have the full HD display, but am perfectly happy with what I've got. Movies (blu ray) look fantastic. -

Yeah, the leaflets say "VPN F1 Series", too. So this thread is wrong-labeled, it's the F1 Series
When will there be an all-new design? Maybe after the F15 like it was with the FW.
By the way, I swapped the display of my GR series notebook today. And the replacement screen (an original display from the same model number) shows different viewing angles. How could this be? So I suggest one should buy his notebook at a local store if to be perfectly sure what to get. -
BTW I run an OLD HP3100 AIO printer/scanner from the late 90s in VMware Player as there are no Vista/Win7 drivers and it works perfectly.
Give it a try. VirtualBox is free from Oracle and if you have Win7 Professional+ you can also try XP Mode though I personally prefer VirtualBox. -
Haven't tried virtualbox, but I only need XP for when I'm scanning in film.
