If the quality of the speakers was all that made for a good "Multimedia" computer, then you could be using a good-sounding 486DX for HD.

I'm getting an error, same results with R2.52.

If you have accidental warranty then pour a beverage over it. Kind of like someone driving their car into Mexico and leaving it to collect on insurance. Phi Beta Kappa.

    @ omaroo

    Browse the Alienware forums
Those guys always seem to have serious issues that require replacement

Manufacturers do not easily just replace a laptop
And a replacement is usualy not a brand new model ,
It's with a refurbished unit (meaning new to you lol)
After many repairs and the manufacturer determines it a lemon they replace it

Hey guys, i have gotten myself into a bit of a jam. I up graded my drive to an SSD Kingston and in my stupidity had my old drive sitting on the coffee table where my friends dad subsequently put down his very large heavy tool box, thus rendering my drive in a sad state. cutting to the chase i never backed anything up my recovery discs and system image disc and anything else recovery related i lost months ago when i first got this system (feb of 2010) is there anything i can do to restore the laptop back to original factory state with with all its software and everything? i have seen the clean install stuff and how to reinstall drivers but i want it back just like when i booted it up on day one if possible. are there downloads for the recovery discs for this system ?
    thanks in advance

you can pay sony for the recovery dvds. i didn't see your exact model but you can call them. i'm not sure if this link will work for you or if the session will time out, but if not, you can find your sony esupport page, click on drivers and on the right side there will be a link to purchase CDs: https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/e...t=989200945&sessionId=zMfN74ZU77SLWgvFeMDD7j5

What Tomcat is saying is that you have no grounds for getting a replacement.

The warranty (unless you purchased "accidental" coverage) only applies to defects in manufacturing. Slight blemishes and grease on the palmrest and over are most certainly not going to be covered.

What EXACTLY do you think the defects are? This is really a conversation you should be having with Sony Support.

My point is that I read about problems with other brands here every day omaroo

Owner satisfaction with this Sony is one of the highest I have seen

I have read almost every single post in all 5 F series threads I probably would of noticed if this model had major issues requiring repairs

Your mention of scratches brought back memories of a new truck I purchased some years back
In one day the Darn cat managed to scratch the hood climbing up on it

Lesson here is thats it's only perfect untill you take it out of the box and turn it on
It's never the same after that as each time you load a software program , or change anything can effect it

Listen to anseio on getting in touch with Sony support in regards to defects
They are experts on this model and can clarify what is a manufacturing defect and what might be a user caused issue ,or unreal expectation

    Hi anseio,

If you're willing, I need your help with the Vaio F11 Graphics driver for Windows XP. The other thread where you posted your instruction was locked, and I couldn't find out how to send PM to you.

And, I apologize to everybody for being off topic.

    Thank you!

    Med

By the way, I found out how to make everything work after a clean install. You can even decide which of the sony software to be installed/excluded while still maintaining the perfect stability of the system. My model is VPC-F115FM. Just contact me if you're interested. Cheers!

I think you have to make a few more forum posts before you can send/receive private messages. So, until then, let's flaunt our relationship. :p

Here's what I need to know from you:
1 - What GPU do you have? 310M or 330M
    2 - Hardward Id's for said GPU

The hardward Id's can be found in Device Manager > Display Adapters > NVIDIA GeForce... > right click Properties > Details tab > dropdown menu select Hardward Id's and post them here.

The one I'm looking for should be similar to this:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A75&SUBSYS_9067104D&REV_A2

After you get me this, I'll download the driver pack and make the quick mod. Will let you know when done. Busy tomorrow, Thurs, so it may be a day.

ok thanks tomacat and anseio. Dontknow how to purchase accidental damage if its my fault, which will then force sony to fix it for me. I have talked to my retailer and they might replace me it with a new one, as sony said they dont replace with new ones, so i had to go to my retailer.

I like the question, but seems it's kinda misread...

Can someone who owns a Northern American (not European or Asian) F13 with full hd (1920x1080) so called "Premium Display" please confirm the panel finish: is it matte or glossy?

    It's definitely glossy.

Edit: I tried to attach the pic I posted when I first got it, but for some reason it wouldn't let me, so you can go look at this post: pics

And really, that picture doesn't do it justice. When sitting in front of it, it literally looks just like a mirror. I may still send it back because of how difficult it is for me to use and how painful it is to my eyes. Others have said their screen isn't near as bad as far as that is concerned so I guess I got unlucky, but to answer your question, all of them are glossy.

Here are pictures I posted earlier on the Canadian version of the premium screen.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...i7-owners-thread-part-5-a-74.html#post6813575

To me, the screen looks fine after it is on when there are contents on it. On black scenes or when off, it does reflect. So it is glossy but not very noticeable during normal use. Compare to my previous Acer, the glassiness is much worse on that one. But comparing to my old IBM, the matt screen still wins.

well, I finally have to agree, the Canadian Premium screen is best described as "glossy". It is much closer in appearance to the glossy ones I've seen, than to the matte ones.

I must admit that it does not bother me so far, contrary to what I expected.

I finally ended up buying this one:
    Thermaltake Massive23 LX Laptop Cooler
    [IMG]

This one does blow the air UP, as required by Vaio F series, I believe!.

It has one big ,and slow, (600 RPM) fan,
which will hopefully do the job of cooling properly

The point is that if it functions as it should, and by that I mean with the software package as it came from the factory, NOT a "Fresh install," then you have no grounds for return.

Frankly I don't mind a few blemishes (My F11 had a slight scratch above the USB/Sata port when I got it, and a squeaky backspace key) because with six cats, a daily commute with the system to and from work, and field recording, I'd get neurotic trying to keep it looking perfect. It's not worth the stress. Anyway it's more impressive to show the beautiful laptop to others with signs of use, than as some pristine, and therefore apparently useless, showpiece.

It is definitely not like your picture. It is the same color as the rest of the case. I ordered black color, but it is not very black at all. The top cover is kind of dark grey and the inside panel is more metallic grey. The only thing that is black is the keys in the keyboard. All the buttons on top are the same metallic grey like the inside panel with white text except for the ASSIST button which has red text.

It's your lucky day. Well, mine too. Sony finally jumped on board with XP drivers. The Sony hardware Id's for the NVIDIA GPU's are listed in the compatibility files. Woohoo.

Download the XP Driver pack for 64bit systems here:
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 260.99 WHQL

In the even that the 64bit driver does not work, let me know and I'll double check the 32bit driver for you.

This should be an easy install. You may not have been able to install drivers before. Thsi pack, 260.99, is brand new.

Looked and searched in the available topics, but couldn't find it (yet).

    I bought a F13 (VPCF13Z1E/B) and I want to put in a backlit keyboard.
On eBay I see only the F12 keyboard and I hope someone can verify if the F12 keyboard is completely compatible or maybe ordered and placed one?

    Thanks for the reply!

The Nvidia Control Panel is pre-installed (on the F13 at least) but not the entire Nvidia System tools package.

Edit: To clarify, you can't change the clock with the pre-installed control panel - you need to download the system tools.
