when i get the p series i will mostly use it for the high res display for my dslr photography
-
Recently loaded W7 beta bd 7048 in my P530H and the transition has been flawless.... The increased speed without the annoying lag of Vista running was was a welcome change...
Running video files and DVDs has caused the screen to studder on occasion, but not frequent enough to be a problem. -

will the p600 series be cheaper than the current 500 series -
Some shops are listing European Vaio P update : P21Z (current model is P11Z).
Vaio P21Z
CPU : Atom Z520 (1.33GHz)
RAM : 2 GB
HDD : 80 GB (4200 RPM)
OS : Vista Home Prenium
Graphic : intergrated graphics GMA 500
Wifi : 802.11G/B/N
Webcam : Yes
Blutooth : Yes
WWAN : HDSPA (7.2 Mbps)
Availability : may/june.
So the difference between current P11Z and new P21Z is HDD size (60 GB vs. 80 GB) -
Do you have any link? -

hey guys i have news a slight processor spec change has been released for the intel atom z series for mids it has a new controller hub that allows hardware acceleration for 720p and 1080i video and includes intel clear video technology and support for up to 2gbs of ram not all ram is used in the p series before this update it was announced by intel in march.
if i upgrade to windows 7 on the p series will i still have everything on my harddrive and will instant on still work -
the vaio p can already use all 2 GB of the ram. it also already has the hardware for video acceleration.

I just got my P13GH. It is Asian model without WWAN and GPS, but it's okay to me because I have iphone 3g.
I just create Recovery DVD, wipe out 60GB HD and load Windows 7 7077.
Everything is detected and installed except Sony Firmware Extention Parser.
Video Sony Programmable I/O Control Device drivers will be installed through Windows Update when you have internet connection ready.
Function Keys like volume, brightness, display switching work fine.
I haven't test video yet. -
If you have time, I would be interested in some first impressions. -
Here is some thoughts. Physical appearance is nice, I love it. Screen and its resolution is perfect for those who have 10/10 eyes. However, there are some performance problems when I put Windows 7 build 7077 on it. Video is not smoothly play at full screen. I load PowerDVD and use Hardware Accelerator, it seems good but laptop freezes after couple seconds.
So I switch back to semi-clean recovery and performance is a bit better. I likely want to upgrade its Atom Z520 to Z540 or Z550. It costs about $180 for Z540 processor now. -

I can do this kind of upgrade. I want to play this P more time before I decide upgrading it or not. I am the one who's doing upgrade Core 2 Duo for UX series.
For anyone who has P with Atom Z530 (1.6GHz) or higher, performance is definitely better, what you feel about the performance and responding when playing movies like MP4, MPEG or high definition? -
-
if i hired a pro to open the p series could the z520 be removed and replaced with the z540
-
Processor in P is BGA component and soldered to motherboard, so it needs to be desoldered and the new one has to be soldered to the board.
I am thinking to do that. I have asked one supplier and they can offer Z540 for about $200. I do it by myself because I have done same thing with UX.
I would say YES that Z520 can be upgrade to Z540 without any problem. I may wait a little more time to get Z550 2.0GHz.
It's not necessary to upgrade RAM because it's already 2GB. RAM is also soldered same side of the processor and chipset. -
I've juste installed 7077 on my new P19VN/Q (French version with 1.6Ghz and 128G SSD)
Everything works fine and soooooo much faster than the previously installed Vista except I can't get Vaio Smart Network to work, nor could I find the WWAN software to reinstall with the 3G drivers
The F5/F6 keys to set the brightnes are also mute.
Haven't tried the GPS yet so I would not know if it is working.
Could you please tell me where you managed to download the W7 compatible extra soft and drivers ?
Many grateful thanks in advance. -
There is no such order to install drivers to make all devices work, so you just install as the way you want until done.
In fact, Windows 7 build 7077 can detect and install almost device drivers except Sony Firmware Extention Parser. You have to install it manually.
What you need to download is below:
- Sony Setting Utilities
- SFEP Driver Sony (Firmware Extention Parser)
- Sony Shared Library
- SPIC Driver (Optional - will be installed with Windows Updates)
- VAIO Control Center
- VAIO Event Service (Important - makes function keys work properly)
- VAIO Power Management
- VAIO Smart Network
To make sure function keys work properly, you need to install Sony Shared Library and VAIO Event Service first before install other utilities. -
will the p series instant on recognize an external usb drive

I don't know why Windows 7 is running much slower than Vista on my P.
Windows7 performance index is lower than in Vista -
For exemple this one : Correct.nl -
i got my new sony dslr A350k today it was 700.00 but i only have to pay 200.00 my dad is paying 500.00 of it i asked someone on sonys website to allow raw image playback on the vaio p series instant on and she said i will pass it on to the development team -
i have a question for you guys what kinds of games will the p series play
could you check quake live beta see if it runs its free now just need to register -
Yesterday I did a full installation of W7 bd 7077 32 bit on my P530H.
Needed to reinstall a couple drivers from the Sony Vaio E support website, but there is quite a difference in computer speed from the 7048 build date.
Still looking into a missing driver for the GPS sensor module...
Otherwise this BD is working well... and far faster than Vista Home Basic. -
I finally decided to sell my P.
It's too slow for me. I have seen the Atom benchmarks, even with Z530 1.6GHz, it's still way slower than Celeron 900MHz. So Z540 or Z550 would not be a big change. -
does anyone here think the vaio p series is overpriced i might decide to wait for mac osx snow leopard and buy the new macbook for 100.00 more
than the 1200.00 vaio p series
the p series does not need a 64gb ssd go with a 32gb ssd are expensive for now its a netbook its not supposed to have a huge hard drive it would bring down the price a lot -
-
my terrible laptop my mom gave it to me and she got a macbooki gave it to my 7 year old sister it is worse than the p series it has 1.6 ghz intel celeron 533 mgz frontside bus runs windows vista home basic on only 512 mb of ram the acer laptop crashes every other day and its only a year old

I am tempted in selling this and getting a TZ. They have them on clearance for $949!
-
P90 is way overpriced for what it is and way too slow. Also I checked one out at Frys and the screen looks horrible.
I would rather just buy 2x samsung netbooks than 1 sony p90. But I got my eye on the Z series looks very nice! -
I just heard from Sony Style Germany today that the VGN-P19VN/Q is not available anymore - it had already been delisted a few weeks ago but the last answer I received was that it would be back in store late April. Now the only option is the small P11. The P19 was on back order for a long time so I can't believe that they didn't sell enough.
Perhaps a new model lineup is coming soon? -
After read all comments on pocketables.net forum, I really like P.
Actually, P should be tweaked for best performance.
I sold my P13GH, but I got P588E with a lot extra and just about hundred bucks on top of sold P13GH. -
The high spec P19 is not available anymore also in Sonystyle in Italy. I mail them and they risponded me that is not available anymore...I think we are very near to an upgrade of the P series or Sony wants to sell the other models with the 60 Gb hard drive and 1.33 ghz CPU.
-
Just saw that they also took off the P11 in black from the German Sony Style Store. Already over the last few weeks it's always been on back order, now it's gone completely. I also believe that an update will come soon (or better I hope it will come soon...).

Here is the first review of P21Z : Sony VAIO P, VGN-P21Z, πρώτη παρουσίαση επί ελληνικού εδάφους.
It is in greek, but Google translates it in english.
It should be available at the beginning of june. Price : 1000 euros -
Interesting, where is the "P29" though?
-
You guys are amazing! I am greek and you found it first...
Is strange that was announced in Greece, maybe because we never saw the original model P11. Where are the models with SSD though? So the only update is just the hard drive that from 60 GB goes to 80 GB? Ahh Sony you never change! I mean who the 1.33 ghZ is already passed out no? -

Great thread, very informative. I've just gone and bought a used Vaio P after losing out on a TX5 on ebay. For an extra $300 I could have bought a new P from Conics.net with the top end Z540 but I couldn't justify the extra expense.
Hope I don't regret it! -
A Couple of questions for owners:
How long did your initial defrag take once you got everything you needed on the device installed? mines been going over night and i have 20 gig spare!
Is there a better defrag program that you can use or should i stick with the inbuilt on?
Those that have installed windows 7 rc1, does everything work ie camera, volume control etc?
thanks, just got my p11z last night!!
