Well I was referring to their SonyStyle stores.

Man I want to enable VT on my TT but I am worried I may muck it up by mistake some how.

itworker, how did you install the SSD --- did you follow the pics from the japanese site?

I think I'll be doing it in a couple of months now that the new (and cheaper) 2nd gen x18m has been announced...

Yes, I followed instructions from the Japanese site. It was accurate. I also followed the advice of someone if this forum a few pages back that suggested you draw a layout of the TT on a piece of paper. I did that and marked all the screw locations by letter and then separated all the screws by letter using post it notes.

It was a bit nerve racking but not hard at all. I was expecting worse.

Is there a systems manual for TT so we can see how to change the WIFI Card from 5100 5300?

    Thanks.

itworker, what are your thoughts post the upgrade? I'm sure boot time and application launch times are dramatially improved -- aside for those two things, does your TT feel a lot snappier in day to day use?

MrT- yes my TT at least now feels more or less on par with my T9300 equipped Macbook Pro on Vista running Office apps. Of particular note is how much faster Adobe Lightroom runs. I have over 11,000 pics on Lightroom and prior to the upgrade it was running quite sluggish. Big change in office apps like Excel or Word which I use all day. Excel opens in 2+ seconds now after I click on an attachment. Same thing for Word.

The only benchmark I've run is HDTune. Access time was 0.1ms and transfer rate average was 180M/b+.

I'm ecstatic about the HD transfer rate as I was told by Sony to expect SATA 1.5G speeds and NOT 3.0G.

Keep in mind the TT has like 6+ hr battery life, so any impact from going to an SSD or from battery drain (if there is battery drain... I don't think so but I haven't specifically tested it) is likely going to be much less significant, as a %, than on the Z.

Yeah the TT is decent for sunlight, much better than my first gen MBP with glossy screen. I am also in the California sun.

I'm in the market at the moment for a TT.

Do you mind if I ask where did you get yours from at this price?

See this thread, both of those outlets which sold them for £803 are sold out.

    Moving on

Sony didn't even update the TT in the UK anyway to the refreshed model that supports 8GB of ram.

At least people have the option to upgrade by themselves if they want to but Sony have not given people this option in the UK and possibly the EU. The processor is also capped at 1.4 and colour options are limited.

I was thinking that i would try and get used to the screen size of my Sony TX more and then when this line is refreshed probably buy the TT. I won't buy it though if the above is not addressed.
I hope that this line is not phased out.

Silk Black is not available with Intel® Core 2™ Duo Processor SU9400 (1.40GHz).
    # Electric Blue [VAIO Signature Collection] [add $0.00]

Okay so this what CPU-Z shows for my U9300 cpu. I thought it was suppose to be clocked at 1.2ghz. Not complaining that I'm complaining about the "faster" speed, I just want to know/make sure that CPU-Z is not showing an error and that my computer is actually working at a faster speed.

This has to do with Intel's Speedstep. Speedstep can overclock or underclock the processor depending on the computers load.

I am just about to buy that one as well. Did you find answers to your question? And why is it so cheap considered to US?

To all the TT owners, this machine mentioned above will be my 6th notebook, and I am planning to use it around 3 years (next to my business notebook which is 14' HP). Do you see anything problematic with this machine from your current experience?

There was a thread here awhile back about issues with the trackpad. I didn't experience any issues but at least one guy went through 3 or 4 systems and still was not happy.

I love mine. I am slightly annoyed by the bit of flex and wobble in the battery, but it not that it has caused any problems, but just feels slightly cheap on an otherwise expensive laptop.

But the battery life makes up for it

Can't answer your question regarding price but with regards to build quality I can attest that the TT is built very well. My TT goes with me to the office everyday for 10 hrs in a docking station and comes home with me every night. I've had mine for about six months and I don't see any reason why the machine wouldn't survive 3 years. We have lower end Sony Vaio's in our office that's still running after four years and these are machines that have seen a lot of travel and wear.

    My $0.02c.

    An interesting question.

Would you buy a 1.4 GHZ TT with 128 SSD and HDMI out for 2180 USD and pay it without interest for 5 installments

    or

Would you buy a 1.6 GHZ TT with 250 HDD, without HDMI out and with the ability to use 8GB ram for 1420 USD and pay in one payment.

It all depends if HDMI is a deal breaker for you. I personally would go for the faster processor and lower price. You could always upgrade the Hard Drive to a SSD later. My understanding is the CPU is soldered on the board.

So I did a format and reinstall of Windows 7 with the latest RC1 build or what not, and it feels a bit slower, but I now also notice that CPUZ is showing that the cpu is working at normal speed and not showing the higher speed I previously posted. Could that be the reason for the slow down? If that is so, how can I get Windows/cpu-itself to go to the slightly higher speed? Thank you.

BTW: How legit is this place and the ram they are offering? http://www.memoryupgrade.pro/2gb-so...m2ge-pc2-6400-ddr3-800mhz-sodimm-upgrade.html

I was hoping this would be the case, but sadly it seems that the TT is being discontinued. Ordering options have become increasingly limited and various accessories like carrying cases and standard size batteries are no longer available. I asked about this at the Seattle Sony Style store and was told that the TT is being discontinued. I asked specifically if it was being refreshed and was told that it would not be continued. The size point will be taken over by the W series (though this model is not meant to be a performance replacement as it is more of a netbook) and the Z series (better performance/value). Poor sales relative to other models was the reason I've heard most often for the TT's diminishing presence in the stores and on sonystyle.com.

This supposition seems to be reinforced by the absence of the TT in Sony's 2009 Back to School catalog, though I haven't been a VAIO owner/customer long enough to know how long it takes them to introduce new models/refreshes. I suspect if they were doing a simple refresh, the model would not be dropped from a season's list of available models.

If that is the case bdm and it sure looks like it then another ultraportable 11-12 makes way for a netbook. It is a shame.

Perhaps Sony is waiting for Arrandale before putting out another 11.1" - I also had my eye on a TT, but I've decided I'm going to be content with my MSI 1223, and also wait for USB 3.0 before spending so much on a laptop. Perhaps also it will come with VT enabled.
