I would think they would still offer the TT and the 12in business model the G3 in Asia still. While the rest wait for a newer model with a better cpu and gpu. Also, didn't the TT get upgrade to support 8gb of ram?

On another topic, does anyone think it is possible to upgrade the cpu on the TT to use the su9600 1.6ghz cpu?

The cpu is soldiered on, so it would take a lot of work.

Well I was referring to the model we get here in North America. I was told we the latest model get support for 8gb of ram.

I would have thought it be a little easier. You think if I get the cpu, and go to a computer shop they might be able to this?

Odd didn't know they offered the TT with a Celeron CPU. Interesting I read the 8gb of ram stateside here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=382225&page=11

As an interesting note I read that some Z owners, who's machine only had a max 4gb of ram support ie Z600 line and lower, were successful in getting their machine to support/recognize 8gb of ram, using the same 8gb(2x4gb) ram that the newer Z uses. This was done with out any bios hacks or what not. I'm thinking that if users were successful with the Z, we try the same with the ram of TT with 8gb of ram support, and see if it works? http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=384968

On a related note, I posted this once before and didn't get a reply. Is this a legit retailer, and is the ram legit? http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...m2ge-pc2-6400-ddr3-800mhz-sodimm-upgrade.html Thanks.

Also I am waiting for the next in line after the TT. Hope the new model will have a screen of prime quality, like the TZ. I would prefer a non-matte screen. (Have there been some users of the TT that have commented that they were not that satisfied with the TT screen, compared to earlier models in the T series? I think I have came across some viewpoints of this kind in this forum.)

Further, I really hope that Sony keep the same T series keyboard layout for future models, and NOT copies the keyboard layout from the new P and W series, with its crampy right shift key and arrow key arrangements.

Several people have commented that compared to the TZ, the TT doesn't seem as polished, citing things like the chrome-painted plastic and the screen quality. I never owned a TZ, but I'm sure I would have loved it. I liked the TT's design except for the "cheapness" of some of the finishing touches. A $4000 laptop/notebook should be polished down to the tiniest detail, using quality materials and should never feature low-endurance plastic in high-wear positions, such as ethernet port covers.

The TT has now been officially removed from the US SonyStyle website (after having been present but not allowing any order to be placed due to ambiguous "out of stock" messages). I certainly hope Sony USA doesn't plan to abandon the subnotebook class in favor of netbooks.

Or they might bring out a 11.6in device like the Dell 11z and the 11.6in acer timeline. Or a TT with a the Intel LV SL9x00 series cpu, which is faster.

Why would Sony use the LV series, they use 7W more power than the current SU9400/9600 in the TT. I also don't think they will increase the size to 11.6".

Well I am saying they might go with a 11.6in competitor? Or they might go with the SL cpu to justify the price they are selling the TT for right now and differentiate from devices like the Timeline and heck even netbooks(as some consumers may see it being slower(or the same speed) while costing more than the TT. The whole 1.4ghz vs 1.6ghz numbers game thing.

Who knows what Sony will really do. It is a shame to see the TT series being phased out. There is still a market for those that want high end ultraportable laptops. Sony have though obviously lost some of their market base to the likes of the HP Mini note etc. They should have reduced the price a bit, prices were quite extreme in the EU.
An 11.1 is a good size for an ultraportable.
I only personally like high end ultraportables like the Fujistu P series and the Sony TT series. The P series might be phased out as well.

Asus phased out some of their high end ultraportables quite some time ago.
There are rumours that Apple might be bringing out an ultraportable Apple tablet. This might be a decent replacement for some if the specs are decent.

If they start going really cheap I might pick one up.
I can't see them bringing an ultraportable back at least for quite some time. I don't think that they really want to compete with the likes of the Acer Timeline series right now.

That is odd you say that about Asus since I still see them on their US site, and still see the 12in(or was it 11in) Bamboo device at a local store here.

Also isnt the P running an Atom CPU now? I really hope they move the TT to the SL line of cpu's and keep it the same size and weight while keeping battery life about the same.

    Hi all,

I'm trying to connect my TT to my tv via hdmi. However, I can't get the audio to work.

On other machines I could change the sound to HDMI under playback devices but that option isnt on this machine.

In device manager I found "Intel High Definition Audio - HDMI" in device manager under sound, but its not under playback devices.

    Any ideas?

The S6FM range and U series were 11.1 in high end ultraportables. The U series used to be a high end range similar to the Sony TZ. Asus latest models have not been high end. Netbooks seem to be more their focus now. Those Asus models I think are also over 4lbs in weight.

Then where does the 12in Asus U20/N20 fit in, which have the same specs as the TT? But you are right about them focusing on netbooks though.

From what i've seen of them anyway they don't look high end to me. The materials used are cheaper. You can get a Timeline say with the same specs as the x301 but it doesn't make the Timeline high end.

RESPONSE TO GETTING HDMI SOUND WORKING...

I struggled with this as well. I am using the XP downgrade on my TT190. I don't know what to tell you if you are using Vista.

You have to have your computer plugged in to the HDMI device. Have the HDMI device ready to accept your signal. Then --

In the Sound control properties, accessed either from Control Panel or from the Sound icon in the system tray, you want to access the Audio tab. If your HDMI device is activated, you should now have an ADDITIONAL drop down value in the Sound Playback/Default device drop down selector. Realize you will only see this value if your HDMI is connected and ready to accept your signal. Select the new HDMI value as your default device.

Now start the program you want to use (i.e. WMP). If you had started WMP first, you'll still get no sound -- you have to restart it.

***Understand that if you do NOT have your HDMI device plugged in and ready to receive, then you will NOT see this additional value in the dropdown. I played around with this forever before i got lucky and stumbled on it. Also remember, if you have already started the program that would send sound, restart it. This fooled me as well and i gave up trying to get it to work until weeks later after purchasing my unit.

I was told by Sony that HDMI output was not even supported with the XP downgrade -- alas it works, though only with 2.1 stereo. I am plugged in to an Onkyo SR674 Digital AV Receiver and can only get stereo to work -- not my 7.1 surround sound. I think you *would* get that with the Vista install.

WIRELESS QUESTION FOR XP DOWNGRADE USERS?

Does anyone who is using the XP downgrade get more than 72mbps on their wireless even though they are using an 'n' router?

What is also weird is that after coming out of hibernating the wireless jumps to 144mbps for about 8 secs and then returns to 72mbps.

I was in the Sony Style store yesterday playing with the P series computers.

While I was in there I asked about the TT's since I did not see any on display. The manager said that the TT series were done, replaced by the W series which he said was going to get higher spec models soon.

Anybody else heard this. If it's true, I'm glad i bought mine when i did.

I was told something similar when I asked at the Seattle SonyStyle store: that the W series would be taking up the slack for the discontinued TT series, but that the W series would not be configurable. I haven't heard anything about a higher-spec W series being offered. In my opinion, the W series does not look like a business ultraportable, which is what the TT was marketed as - it looks more like something you'd give your teenage daughter when she goes off to college.

agreed. I saw the ws at best buy. Looks like a typical consumer computer (though with an exceptional screen) but definitely not in the same league as the TT.

Our company has a bunch of them (and I bought one as well). We also just ordered one of the new Dell 11z's for evaluation. Not in the same league either but a lot less bucks

We're sure to get another ultraportable. Perhaps one less compromised than the TT - one can hope. I'm extra-glad I bugged out now.The problem is the TT wasn't a Sony. It was at best a Samsung.

Ok. When i first purchased my unit (tt190) i was dismayed to learn from Sony support that the 'n' wireless speed when using XP downgrade could not be better than 78mbps. This from Sony support to my ears.

While tinkering around with the wireless parameters on the Intel WiFi Link 5100 wireless card i changed the Channel Width properties from its default value of 20mhz (what it shipped with) to Auto and voila! I now have 150mbps with my Netgear n router. It still isn't the full 300mbps but now i'm not complaining. Hell, now for all i know there's maybe another tweek somewhere that will get me there.

That now makes 2 BIG things that Sony support have been TOTALLY wrong on since my initial complaint about the lack of features supported on the the tt190 when using the XP downgrade. To recap:

    - Sony support says sorry no sound through the HDMI port when using XP. WRONG!
    - Sony support says sorry no wireless speed greater than 78mbps using XP. WRONG!

Now i luv, luv, luv my TT. Now that they've discontinued the model i think i will buy another one just for a 'spare' -- these are the coolest notebooks on the market. Sure, the build could be a bit better for the price, but STILL they're just plain cool. Sony support -- not so much.

    Good luck all!!!

It's a bummer the TT is gone. However I have noticed that Sony has not announced any machines with intels CULV processors yet.

Maybe a TC line? I hope they try to keep this form factor. The battery life, size and built in drive make this a great road machine.

I am pretty sure Sony will have something new as well, if this is indeed a world-wide disconitnuation of TT series instead of local to US, which didn't even have G series. It seems to me Sony may want to combine G & TT line to create the next-gen high-end ultraportable that has a little bigger market. On the other hand, I kind of like to see G soldiers on to serve the niche market of laptop with non-wide, matte 1024x768 screen.

Vogelbung, other than the build quality, which may be a little subjective, but I know in general the Sony today is not the same as Sony in 2000, what functionality that's not in (or not very good in) TT or TZ that you think Sony should incorporate?

Allow me to disagree: I really hope the next model in the T series follow up will be a wide non-matte screen, and also a decent keyboard (unlike the keyboard layouts of the P and W series - with regard to arrow keys and right shift key location and size).

No, I meant that maybe G will soldier on while T's replacement does not try to also replace G, so we are actually not in disagreement. :)

    Spoken like a true basement-dweller.

There's nothing subjective about it. In fact, I can tell Sony exactly where the problems lie. And also in fact I did, face to face, and they were more interested in mounting a back-to-the-wall defence than discussing how to make it better. When I worked with another department of theirs a few years ago the same 'arrogance without justification' was evident. It's almost as if within the business they still don't realise that Sony is well on the way towards irrelevance.

Technically the TT already uses a CULV processor, but when the TT came out it was considered a high end processor. I would love to see another model with a CULV processor and hopefully a lower price. I'm assuming Sony was locked into the higher initial pricing which screwed them once Acer and company started to offer sub 1000 dollar options.

And there goes another great feat of Sony engineering.

I think the TT is a great portable notebook. People on-the-move usually don't require much grunt / power so the SU9x00 processors would be sufficient and it also increases battery life.

I reckon the reason why the TT (apparently) has come and gone is due to the pricing. TT and the Z are quite similar in price, if not the same. Z has so much more in terms of specs.

It seems that Sony sold the remaining stock of their TTs to the poor retailers like BestBuy which has been selling them as "online only" since release. However, today I saw one brand new TT at my local BB and I was . I asked about it and they had no idea. The price tag had no specs whatsoever besides the price!!! The salesman took a look at the system and he was . He said that they had this as a new product this week and he never heard of any discontinuation news! This machine is the only available piece in the entire state! He was even wondering why the store paid the price for one single machine!

It is really strange but it seems that Sony was arrogant enough to put their machines on clearance at their own stores and decided to sell them to retailers who can charge us full price for a discontinued product!

Even my local Sony store told me that they have one machine left but it is "NOT FOR SALE" which made me    . They even refused to give me any reasoning and they said that there is no news of the model being discontinued and that they are sure that some new updates are coming.

It seems that Sony is playing a hide and seek games with us and they are on denial that their stupid pricing system is what killed this great machine.

If anyone finds these systems on clearance, please let us know ;)
