Official Sony Vaio CW Core 2 Duo Series Owner's Thread

That's what I thought too but I talked to two different reps from Sony and they both told me that they can charge it either when it is being built or when it is shipped.

I said f sonystyle for hurting my feelings and went with a different one. I really hope I didn't miss a better deal than this one. well besides the sony style one but i dont need the blu-ray. 850.

and he said all the sony cw's have no blu-ray in them. so dont be sad. and theres only 1 left too. well in black. i bought the other one lol

 

LOL.......~_~ I don't wanna click for it, I want a 500gb HDD..... Not sure if the video card will make a huge difference......=/ I'll decide by tonite......but it's still temp out of stock and expected shipping Dec 15 ~_~ I'd be so pissed if by the 13th or so they got the stuff back in stock and ship mine? Either that or they cancel it again and the price went up

 

anyone know whats the difference between VPCCW18FX and VPCCW190x

I know its cto but why is it so different? please don't tell me some of them have older motherboards or something. Like whats the difference between the 18fx and 190x.

cause i know they both have the intel card so can i assume they both are the newer cw's?

 

there is no difference between them other than that the 18fx is pre-config model and 190x is cto
if you look at other vaio's its the same thing, pre-config models have various numbers and letters to match different specs and colours and all of the cto are 190, 290,390,490,590, 690, etc. so thats how you can tell the diff between a model that is a cto and one that is already pre-config
EDIT: 18FX is the highest pre-config model available up to date, when an earlier member spoke to a sony rep and they said they are getting new cw's either it could mean they are expanding there various config model's so there is avariety of diff options instead of having to cto what you want. OR which im extremely unsure, is that they are having a refresh but highly unlikely since we just got a new refresh in oct but according to all the diff vaio's it wasnt that big only bug diff was win7 so maybe it might be a refresh but in my opinion i would say that all models might get a refresh in feb or march, if they do it during the new year that would be awesome, becuz looking now that the cw has 2 diff gpu options, means in the next refresh or maybe the 2nd or 3rd refresh they might up the gpu to 240 or 260 who knows, i can wish cant i?
What i want in the next refresh or two: a better screen maybe a hiBrite X-Black screen, or a higher quailty and higher res maybe, not needed but a hugh gpu would be a nice upgrade but no way im complaing about the G230m ill be happy if they stay with it through the whole run, and fingerprint on regular models rather than only on the business models, last but not least 72k rpm hdd. I would add a 5300 ultimate wifi card but its highly unlikely as non of the higher model vaio's have it, al have standard 5100.

+1 for that i keep saying the same thing to myself, since i download everything, i look at myself and say im never gonna buy a blu-ray anyways maybe like once to check it out but whats the point when you dont have a full hd screen, so better i just download and play it through tv, plus since im getting the cw soon, more like january now, we are getting a tv too and hopefully a ps3 so i guess that already has a blu ray drive built in so i wont really need it. IF i ever need something that would be bluray burner to burn those huge 25Gb of data on one disc, but im too lazy to buy an overpriced disc so ill stick to usb's and hdds.

i forgot to add in my lenghty post above, it might be that as someone else said(cant be bothered to go scroll up and look for who ) that they might be releasing new models all in all, and the more i think about it, i think that is a really good guess and it might be true, but looking at it, the SR and FW will both have to be upgraded i think since they both are on FW5xx and SR5xx but i guess its up to Sony to decide.
Its really horrible what Sony did to you, i didnt expect that from Sony no prior consent or notice just cancelled then notified you, a real eye-opener.

 

Well I just called the SonyStyle customer support and I talked to Francine ( I think that was her name ) and she was very nice and she used this "tool" saying my shipping date will be on December 9th-15th. (BTW, I ordered it on Black Friday, 8 am PST) But she also said that I might receive a cancellation order if i'm not one of the lucky few.

 

fingers crossed! i also ordered mine on black friday. my online shipping date says 11/30 and i'm scared to call a representative i do no want them to cancel my order.


on a more annoying note (to add to rehangohar77's post) if i get the CW and then they come out with a newer model that's better?? I am sure I will be satisfied with what I ordered, but this whole mess is frustrating.

 

From what i'm thinking, the next model would probably be a little if not a lot more pricey but imo I think I got a really good deal on this laptop since its socketed(upgradeable) and such

dont know yet it was the same config that many people had here including the black cto, still says shipping update, id be pissed if they canceled my order, i mean i got the p8700, blu ray, 4 gb ram, 500 gb hdd, and the 230 gtm all for 859, i mean that is a damn good deal...still keeping fingers crossed, no email yet regarding cancellation or building..

This computer is way too slow to even search. Pen1 with 128mb ram, ow. i think ive been popping a blood vessel for over a few hours just searching stuff that usually would take a second.

 

You have 1 month from the ship date to return ur laptop....so if sony comes out with a new model or an upgrade, u can return ur current config for the better model.

 

don't forget there is a 15% restocking fee for returned laptop.

 

Got the email from sony cancelling my order They said they didn't know when it would ship. This really ruined my day. Time to look for a new laptop sony just lost a customer...

 

well as ajdelaghetto said it will be more pricey plus you got a really really good deal with your order, i wish i was able to order on black friday and get same specs as you. but dont worry, im always up a bit high in the clouds then i should be.

 

for me (CA), amazon, pcconnection. it depends on the state where you will get it shipped. for many others, it is buy.com, newegg,com, zipzoomfly.com and others. i hate them (just kidding).

and to add to mukhi... a restocking tax seems a little ridiculous, considering that these computers are hothothot but I do understand why Sony does it.

 

its because they put all returned laptops instantly into outlet.

 

IF mine gets cancelled, I may be inclined to buy a Best Buy model. I configured mine pretty much the same except for GT230 rather than the 210. So, my question is, what would I have to be doing to notice the difference in video cards. My usage: web browsing, MS office, netflix movies, blu-ray movies, Photoshop Lightroom. No video editing, just pictures. I am not a gamer, so would the gt210 be fine for me?

psh, this is can do that, and way more. This is absolutely fine for your uses.

 

Thats kinda what I thought, but it was $95 cheaper thru sony-style with the GT230. ($850 compared to $755) It's not too hard to figure out which one is the better buy. That is, IF I actually get it.

 

Restocking fee is only applicable under certain terms. This is what i found on the sonystyle site:

"Products must be returned in their original packaging. Shipping and handling is non-refundable. Issued RMAs are only valid for 30 days. You are responsible for and must prepay all shipping charges AND you shall assume all risk of loss or damage to the product while in transit to Sony. If you return your product to Sony (i) without a RMA from Sony, (ii) beyond the 30 day period, or (iii) without proper packaging, Sony retains the right to either refuse delivery of such a return or charge you a restocking fee.

Return Policy: Sony will issue a refund of purchase actually paid if the product was purchased directly from Sony, if a RMA has been obtained, and if the return is submitted during the 30 day period following shipment by Sony. Sony will not issue a refund on any CD or DVD that has been opened (taken out of its plastic wrap). Once the items are received back, credit will be processed to your original method of payment and will appear on your statement in 1 to 2 billing cycles. So, u can get ur full refund. I know this is true atleast for the HD TVs. One of my friends bro bought a 52" or 55" HDTV and cancelled his order while the TV was still in transit. Sony generated the RMA and even didnt charge him the return shipping fees. They just asked him to send drop it back at the fedex store with the RMA.

So far, If I am not mistaken. Everyone who got order cancelation email is one who ordered Jet Black. If there is one guy who ordered another color and got order cancelation email, then it will make me start to be panic T_T.

I think they are cancelling the orders because they ran out of the graphics cards, not the actual color of the laptop. The rep told me Sony ran out of 230Ms so they ordered a limited amount so the people who ordered early will be able to get their laptops built while the ones who ordered after black friday gets their order cancelled.

 

I just want them to ship my laptop already !

hi everyone, just plugged hdmi to my 1080p monitor and watched blue ray movie, everything looks and works nicely. Tried dirt 2 but its unplayable in full hd. modern warfare 2 in full hd works ok but performance decreased also tried command and conquer 3 nicely playable in full hd.

 

This is an update to my below problems - after the pc updated itself a few times. now the speed problem has disappeared for now. It's super fast with many softwares working at the same time! so i now feel really pleased. the only thing remains is the stuck pixel. Amazon has said that they are willing to fully refund me because they are out of stock for an exchange! now what should i do: keept it with the suck pixel or go though all the hassel of refunding and looking to buy another one including the updating, dramas?

I just received my CW in pink yesterday. Everything looks ok, but:

1. There is a dead pixel in the center of the screen that wouldnt go away no matter what I try (massage or run softwares)

2. It gets incredibly slow while there are more than 3 applications (IE, MSN messenger, and Word) running at the same time.

Is this normal? Peronsally the dead pixel doesn't bother me that much, but this slow speed is really killing me as I only chose this laptop because of its high specifications (on top of the cheap price). My previous VGN-TZ was way faster than this one even when the specifications seemed lower than this one (of course I downgraded it from VISTA to XP).

What should I do? Return this and buy a laptop from the business series?

@mx2106 - What is ur config? did you have fresh start? and as for the dead pixel? considering the shortage of inventory and stuff , if you can live with the dead pixel for some time, you could use the warranty after a month and get it changed... but if the speed is really slow...then you should return it...!
