It also has a P6670 processor though instead of the T6600. I don't know what kind of a difference that makes though.

So you're saying that with my on-it's-way CW that has the P8700 and W7 Premium I can't activate VT in the BIOS? What if I install W7 Pro after I receive the laptop? Can I activate VT then or am I out of luck cause I didn't initially get it with Pro? (It's a preconfigured model with all the juice, it's ridiculous to have to wait for weeks for a custom one to get an OS I don't need to acivate something totally unrelated! Cmon Sony!)

    Here it is:

Here's sonystyle reply about my order status:

Thank you for shopping with Sony Style!

Due to the large number of requests for the VPCCW190X CTO, your estimated ship date has been delayed. I apologize for this inconvenience. I expect the product to arrive on December 22, and your order will ship shortly thereafter.

Not a big concern me as they are not cancelling my order.. till then my E1505 can help me survive.. I ordered it on 27th 11am and jetblack color.

EDIT: My earlier ship date was Dec 15

You WILL be able to activate VT when you upgrade your Win 7 to PRO or higher, since your configuration shows the P8700 CPU. I already have. You change the bios setting, then download and install two programs from Microsoft.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
The limitation isn't with Sony. VT simply will not work with Win 7 Home Premium. And even if you did get Win 7 Pro from Sony, you would STILL have to set the bios yourself and install the two programs. Not everyone needs VT, and it requires over 500Mb of disk space just for the VT version of XP you need to install.

One word of warning. If you do upgrade your Win 7, MAKE SURE your installed copy of Win 7 Home Premium is activated first... For some reason mine wasn't activated immediately when I went through the registration process, even though I was connected to the Internet at the time. It had "scheduled" automatic activation for a few days later... When I did the upgrade, I couldn't "activate" Win 7 Ultimate because I used an "Upgrade" key code, but it hadn't detected the prior system as installed. This took over 2.5 hours of phone time to Microsoft to resolve, but at least the problem and solution ought to be in their database now.

First question: Is it hard for anyone else to plug in the ethernet cable? it was hard and at first i thought it might of been a plug for something else but it was it. It was really like hard to push in. Anyone?

Second question: Is it bad changing the refresh rate from 59 to 60? Thanks

I actually just bought a Sony Vaio CW in white from Best Buy and I love it! It runs so cool and so quiet and its very fast. For all of you who have the laptop did your laptop come with 70 "vaio sample videos" of a little Japanese girl named Yuko? I hope so, or else Best Buy sold me a used laptop when I paid for a brand new one. Its just really weird i've never had a computer with 70 videos of a little girl its really creepy because she is bathing in a few of them!!!

I'll give it a try tonigh.

Did you find a way to find how fast the fans are spinning and whether they're regulated by the load?

    thanks again

    I wouldn't do that!
The recovery disks IMHO are to re-create the CW as was originally delivered. If you install any driver update and have a problem you'll have that problem on your recovery disk also.
I'd create the recovery disks with the original system. Then I'd update drivers and then do a system backup (directly via the W7 or via a third party soft like Norton Ghost).

Did you find any way to know how many round per minute the fans spin ? and whether they are regulated or not ?

I also have the colors washed out.

Would you PLEASE, guide me step by step on how to get the screen look good by tweaking the parameters ???

I don't want to take any risk to alter those parameters and not being able to undo in case I do something wrong on my own.
    MANY THANKS

May I suggest you to install SRS Audio Sandbox ? It really change the sound. Also, you may want to equalize via WMP or Winamp. The Winamp equilizer is really bad and introduce latency. You may just use it in order to amplify the sound without playing with the frequencies.
Anyway, don't expect much changes on bass with so tiny speakers. You can improve the sound but not change physics laws!

I agree with you on Bloatware and BIOS.
I did a clean install to remove the Bloatware because uninstalling them don't always work since some processes still keep running.

1/ the only review so far from notebookcheck (in german you can translate it by google) on CW don't mention any leakage. They "measured" and didn't find any component sucking power when Off. Someone in this thread did post the link to this review but I don't remember it

2/ You're right about VT. Not all CPUs support that. The following link is a chart from intel (look on VT column):

In theory it could work. But how if Sony deliberately locks in the BIOS the possibility to activate the VT if you get a Home premium instead of Pro ?!

Try to find an owner with P8700 and a W7 Home Premium and ask him to look at the BIOS setting

Ethernet seemed to go in fine the one time I tried it.

I think my monitor at home always shows the refresh rate at 59. I change it to 60 and it just goes back. Probably the same thing will happen with the laptop.

Whats happening to my laptop???? Suddenly It's regularly freezing!!

Last week it first happened, so then I just switched the laptop off and on.
It then happened a day or so ago, every 20 seconds the laptop froze for like 15 seconds (I ended up restarting the computer)
Then just now my laptop just froze again... I then got the BSOD!!!!!!!!! -.-

All 3 happened while doing non intensive stuff (surfing internet/doing work on word)

Is anyone getting this problem ???!

Ermm i'm not sure of how to find this out, but i will find out for you ;)

Consider this a mini walkthrough. I've attached images incase i don't make sense

Right... To do this you need to disable a setting first in the vaio control centre first to prevent the colour profile being reset to sony's default the next time you log in.

    1. Start > All Programs, then find VAIO Control center and open it.
    menu.png
    2. To the left there is a tab that says DISPLAY, select that, and then select Colour mode setting
    3. Select "select from following colour modes", and then choose "do not apply colour mode", then press apply and close the VAIO control center.
    Untitled.png

Then to tweak colour/contrast settings, right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
    desktop.png

If it is the first time you have opened NVIDIA control panel, then a dialog will appear. Select advanced settings, and press ok. Then, to the left, expand the "DISPLAY" and then select "Ajust desktop colour settings".

Once on the adjust desktop colour page, check the "use nvidia settings" and then tweak the brightness and contrast only; I would leave the gamma setting alone, but you can adjust it slightly if ya like. It doesn't change much, moving gamma left makes edges darker, whereas moving it right makes edges lighter.

I would also set the digital vibrance to around 25% - 40%... :p This is what i think removes the "washed out" look :D
    nvidia.png

Roundup of my settings (these should make your display look better :p :
    Brightness 37%
    Contrast 57%
    Gamma 1.00
digital vibrance 39% ( i like colours to be... well.. colours :p)

hope this helps :D i like helping, it feels like a good deed :p

I'm not sure what was on my videos... i didn't watch them, but i had videos, as well as pictures of literally a families whole life... slighty weird, so i just deleted them... i don't see why sony put sample content like that on. it makes you feel as if your laptop is second hand when you see albums of weddings, sunbathing etc

Thanks Robotech for explaining it out, I think most people have this idea that you have to re-install windows to upgrade it, there is a Windows Anytime Upgrade option inside windows whcih will help you upgrade to Win7 for a smaller fee then having to pay for a brand new Win7 Pro. If you folow what robotech has written you should be fine :), it should show up in BIOS once you have upgraded. even when you buy it with win7 Pro pre-installed, the VT option in BIOS is disabled, so just go to bios once you have upgraded and enable it and install the two progs and you should be fine :)

I would rather have a tight fit then have a loose fit, some of the laptops i had and use ethernet with the port seems like its a big big and the wire is always loose and for that reason the internet goes on and off and its a pain in the butttt, trust me, as long as its going in and staying there i wouldnt worry about it at all

I havent tried the Ethernet option but will definitely gibit a shot today.
I faced a similar issue with one of my USB port. I put in a nano receiver for my mouse and the thing will not come out. i pulled at it a lot and was really afraid of damaging either the receiver or the usb port of both. I had read in the initial pages, someone had this issue as well and he had to use a plier to pull it out completely destroying his nano receiver. Luckily for me, it came out with a stroing pull.
My other two usb ports are just fine. No problems over there. Did anyone else face a similar issue with their usb ports?

But yeah check out the ethernet and let me know how it feels for ya, But yeah I guess it does feel nice and firm instead of loose and wiggley.

If you've bought an OEM licence, then you don't need slic. Otherwise, doing what I think you're planning to do may be treading on illegal grounds.

Hey guys, so my laptop is sitting at home (I'm at college still), waiting for me. Is there anything I can have/trust my parents to do in advance of me getting to it? Like, I'm thinking of having them open it and charging the battery so I won't have to wait much longer when I finally get home. I'd hate not being the first to unbox it, and doubt my dad would drop it or anything, but I'd like to have it ready for me.

Would this be relatively easy for them to do? Also, I asked for a sleeve for Christmas, but what else should I buy/prepare for in advance? A few dvd+r disks for backup for one, but is there anything else I should expect to deal with before or after starting this bad boy up?

Their are alot of places that sell the matte black version, and on top of that like 5 different models. Only problem is none of them have stock. I called almost everyone on the resellers list and they told me they will not have any in stock till late Dec or early Jan :-(
