Glad to see you finally got something from Sony. Our build email came yesterday afternoon, but in the email and on the website it still says the 22nd is our estimated ship date. Just hoping we'll get it next week while both my husband and I are home.

they're fine for youtube, but music listening is a big NO NO. on the plus, they're loud, unlike what some reviews wrote, that they weren't loud enough. -
Happy Holidays Everyone!

What drive is your optical disks on guys? Mine's G. I would of thought it be like D or E or something.
-
-
Well I guess I'm not alone lol but , I don't get why it would be different. I know I got a memory stick in but why does the memory stick go before the optical disk? ?
and what brand is your dvd-writer if u got one? I thought it be the samsung one cause it has drivers for it but its not. -
i belive the sony uses Pioneer dvd drives...i had this on my older Sony... -
According to Wikipedia -
i got my CW monday.and i absolutely love it. sorry, im almost computer illiterate. what do i do to connect it to my tv. older tv. and how much would it cost
-
Btw, what temperatures do you guys get while gaming? I get about 50-53 degrees while playing GTA IV. Should I be worried? :[
CPU is always cool though... Well, pretty much anyway. -
Has anyone written up a guide for the wireless card? I have an Atheros card in currently. Is there any other one that I can upgrade it with??
Thanks -
for older televisions E.g CRT i'm not sure. since the CW doesnt have an S-video port you would need to use some sort of VGA to RCA/scart/s-video converter for the video, and for the audio a 3.5mm jack to stereo rca cable.
dunno if theres any other methods but id say these two are probably your best bet
edit: HDMI cables cost around £6 or £7 off amazon ($10 in the usa, sorry not good with £-$ conversion)
not sure how much a VGA-RCA/S-video would cost, but the 3.5mm to RCA is about £3 ($5) -
Hi,
This is my first post in here. I'm not sure if this doubt has been put forward before, but I'm really not able to dig it out.
I'm almost at the verge of getting a CW myself. I just fell in love with it.
The problem is the CWs avalable here are loaded with Home Premium and not Professional. My work mostly concerns with utilizing multiple Vms (usually in VMWare), and I'm not sure it's supported in the Home edition in CW.
My understanding is that I could possibly just enable virtualization in the bios. Is it right? Or should I hold on a bit more till one loaded with Professional hits the market here? I would not be using Win7, as such, that much frequently and would prefer to go with the Home Premium is it supports Vmware.
Any advise appreciated. Thanks. -
How are u guys able to tell what brand your optical disk is? mine just says jibberish in the device manger.
and to Viao. You will need the P8700 or better CPU with the Upgraded windows, You can do this after you buy your cw as well. Seems like Windows Upgrades are pretty nice. But other than that, you will be able to run VMware if you have the right CPU with the windows. And once you do. You enable it in Bios. -
Hi, what do you think about VPCCW16FG!? Is it good or not? advantages and disadvantages? it has a good specifications, what do you think about SR45? i'm an electronic engineering and MA student, mabye SR45 is better because of the lower weight, but SR45 graphic is intel, i have some heavy softwares like matlab, which one is better for me?
-
So, obviously, I have my new computer in my hands. Love it. Got the recovery disks done. Put Adobe stuff on. Office. Got the home hooked up for wireless. ...I don't know what else to do with it now. I just sit here and look at it, lol. Are there any updates I should be looking out for?
Does anyone know anything more that could be done with the webcam? Like can I make it do any sort of facial recognition/log on stuff? -
What is the jibberish? copy and paste it into hereor you could just google it. and if nothing comes up, then look in the section "Hardware Ids" of the properties page.
In the device manager:
right-click > properties > go to the tab DETAILS > then select hardware Ids in the drop-down selection box
then from the writing under hardware Ids, you should be able to find one word that tells you what make the drive it is
and if not, well then i dunno to be quite honest, could be a generic drive, although it would be very very unlikely considering this is a sony -
got my cw from best buy three days ago.. everything is all fine except two system crashes, and a broken bluetooth.. the computer says the device is not plugged in properly.. am i the only one having this problem? how do i fix this kind of problem? happy holidays everyone!

Does anyone know why it will not play a bluray movie thru the HDMI? It says "the display environment does not support protected content". I can watch on the laptop but when I plug the HDMI cable in, it stops the movie.
-
You should have it set to rather extended mode, or external display only, so that the movie is only shown on 1 screen.
if you have tried these, or were already set to one of these then it is probably that your external display doesn't support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), which will prevent you from playing anything that is protected e.g like your blu-ray disk.
Hope this helps -
My DVDRW is a MAT$HITA DVD-RAM UJ880AS
The $ is because the name gets censored. -
-
what is the best setting if i want to connect to my lcd 32 inch tv through hdmi.. ???
-
Got my CW. Its pretty sweet. I already changed out the 5400 HD for my new 7200 RPM HD. Things load much quicker now. Played some games on it, NFS shift BF2 all run perfectly smooth at high settings. Played them threw the HDMI onto my 42 inch LCD. So far loving the CW. The only grip I have is the fingerprints. The black one which is what I have is a fingerprint magnet. I wish them would have made the palm rest matte. I have to clean the thing everytime I am finished with it. Also tried out the Blu-Ray drive on my 42 inch, worked perfect
And it turns out my 6GB's of ram is running in dual channel, at least according to CPUZ anyway...

Merry Christmas to all Sony Vaio owners
, and to those who are awaiting to own one, hope you've been good and that Santa will get you one soon.
-
Thank you, Sir Dudley. I am planning to get a CW16 and it does have a P8700 which supports virtualization. But the models available here comes loaded with Home Premium and not Professional. I read online that the models with Home have their VT disabled. Can I enable it myself? Or I need some Bios upgrade? or is it just not possible?
I'm not a tech expert, but I require to use Vms. Home Premium suits my needs well but if I can't use VMs I'll go for Professional. Please advise. -
You will for sure need Windows Pro no matter what to get VT working. But like I said, if you get Home Premium, I'm pretty sure its easy to upgrade to Pro by just a few buttons. But yes go pro.
But yeah my DVD drive says its a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20N.... I wonder what it is lol -
Merry christmas everyone -
merry christmas guys..does anyone know how to upgrade to windows ultimate? i have the key but not a dvd...
-
Thanks again, sir Dudley. It was a gr8 help. I think I'll go Pro itself. Though I ain't gonna use Win 7 as such that much, I really need to use VT technology.
-
Yep go pro and you will run old school stuff all day long and vmware, vt all the same to me haha. But yeah isn't weird I got the Hitachi and people got Samsung or Pioneer? is that? I'm talking about dvd players. Is my brand okay? but meh its just a dvd player anyways lol
but yes Happy Holidays all, Hope you all were good and got what you wanted! or spent enough to cry at the bill for a few months hehe -
According to Best Buy the CW series is going to be discontinued. I just talked to a in store rep and also called their main store.
-
Why would sony discontinued one of their newest and best selling laptop lines....
-
-
is it important to make a partition.. ? i have put lot of music, videos and photos and the start up is very slow.. is it coz there is no partition or is it too much of load.. ?
-
As I'm sure a few others did, I got my CW yesterday
Been playing with it pretty much ever since.
-
-
Cheers!
Edit: i would check it out for you myself but my current temp computer is this crap from 2004 lol running xp so ahhhh patience is a virtue -

Hey guys,
any of u having trouble creating recovery disk?? Im supposed to do 4DVD or 2 double layer dvd. Im trying to do single layer DVDs, but at 23% it stops and writes an error. Any recommedation?? -
-
I couldn't get mine to write to about 6 Verbatin Dual-layer DVD+R's, but it worked first time using 3 Sony DVD-R discs. Just experiment with different discs, and if you still cant get it to work then the best thing would be to contact sony, and ask them to provide a copy since your computer won't burn them. -
Shrinking your original partition and creating a new one is good because it will allow you to keep your data if you do a restore (I assume Restore doesn't make you format the whole drive....) -
If anyone wants windows 7 home or professional for 29 bucks go to the link posted below. There is about 7 days left. The only catch is you need a education email address. I've been following this thread for awhile so I guess I'm the only one with bad luck.
I received my CW four days ago and found out I have corrupt RAM. So can anyone tell me how to send my laptop back in to Sony? I can't find anything on their website and when I try to call them they tell me to call the international services, who don't help at all. -

I found on ebay Windows 7 professional for 10 dollars, do you think its safe to use it with CW, or it will effect anything with sony website?
