Anyone has this problem? I see a duplicated Processor showing up on my Device Manager. Is it a false display? I tried "Check for hardware changes" and it didn't work.

go for vaio cw16fg , it looks better than dell xps and also has better graphics card than xps13. also arent you bored seeing all dell and hp  , everyone seems to have one in india, i am from bangalore, where are you from, sony cw16fg costs rs 58000 here, you can get it for even less :)

just now checked the dell india website, the graphics card with xps 13 is 9500mg which is very very weak when compared to gt230 of vaio cw16fg, the vaio cw15 has g 210 graphics card whose performance is equal to 9500mg and vaio cw15 costs just rs 48000. so vaio cw 16fg has much better graphics card, looks, brand perception(specially in india) and will cost you rs 3000 less than xps13.. :)

Just got mine and have been playing with it :D

There's something odd though. The 2 USB ports on the left side are quite tight and I have to really push my USB drive in. The USB port on the right side is fine. Does anyone else have this problem? What can I do to make it easier to use?

Another question, which is quite embarrassing, but is there a port I can use to connect to broadband from ISPs? I don't have wi-fi and have to use a cable. The ethernet port at the back is for LAN only?

    Thanks!

The cablemodem should have an ethernet port. You connect with a regular network cable and probably use some software

    Hi,
    I got my CW yesterday :) :)
I am having a problem. I made my recovery discs (took me 4). There was just 283 gb available out of total 320 gb which itself I found really odd. And then as I planned to create yet another partition (mine came with just one), I discovered that 14.5 out of this 283 is labelled "Healthy (Recovery Partition)" but it is 100% free, according to stats in Disk Management.
Is this normal? I have heard Sony comes with a hidden recovery partition, but 14.5 gb!!! and that too its completely free.
Advice really appreciated. I just dunno how to proceed. Shall I just delete it?
    Thanks in advance.

The recovery partition is shown as a "RAW" partition in disk management. When you run the program that burns the discs, it gets mounted as drive H and you can see the contents. I would just leave it alone, because it's good to have. What if a DVD gets scratched or was burned with an error?

The rest of the missing space is because HDs are marketed with 1gb = 1000mb, but Windows counts 1024mb as 1gb. There is also a certain amount of space that stores info about where data is etc.

Thanks a bunch winkosmosis. And you were so right. I ran the recovery program again and saw the contents of the drive. I was not planning to delete it, only if it was empty and it showed itself empty in the disk management. I'm going to let it alone now. Thanks again

It is same with all I believe. The right one seems to be pretty loose where as the ones on the left are a bit tight.

For your second question, yes the one on the back, to the left, is indeed for wired broadband.

Here is a screenshot of the services I have disabled. I don't know what all of them do, so do your own research and disable services at your own risk!
I also uninstalled Google toolbar and browser, ran msconfig and disabled everything from Google. We don't need them spying on everything we do.

how to do this.. ? The simultaneous downloads should be optimized.

The current number of simultaneous connections to a single HTTP 1.0 or HTTP 1.1 server is limited to less than 10 respectively.
To comply with current Internet standards Internet Explorer normally limits the number of simultaneous connections made to a single web server. This behavior can be seen in Internet Explorer when downloading multiple files from a web site and only a certain number will be active at any one time. Windows will limit connections to a single HTTP 1.0 server to four simultaneous connections. Connections to a single HTTP 1.1 server will be limited to two simultaneous connections. However, as connection speeds increase and the number of total connections that are allowed to Internet servers increase, the connection limit may be restrictive.

how to do this.. ? The critical Microsoft Windows 7 services should be set to their default values.
The critical Microsoft Windows 7 services are currently not set to their default values.
Microsoft Windows 7 requires a number of services which are essential for the smooth functioning of your computer. Some of these include Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Plug And Play, Protected Storage, Windows Audio, Windows Management Instrumentation etc. It is highly recommended that the critical system services be set to their default values

how to do this.. ? Windows Mail Splash Screen should be removed.
Windows Mail in Windows 7 is similar to Outlook Express in previous versions of Windows. Although it has new features such as fast search, good junk mail filtering etc, loading takes slightly longer because of the splash screen. This splash screen can be safely disabled for an enhanced user experience.

Hi guys, I've read through quite a few pages of this mammoth thread but I just want to check that if I want to do a clean install and get rid of the crapware, all I need to is to make some recovery discs, then just stick them in and let the installation process run its course? Could someone confirm how many DVDs I'll need? Oh and how long will it take to install Windows 7 (again)?

I ordered mine from oyy.co.uk on Sunday and it would've come today were it not for the bank holiday yesterday  There was 5 available in red but now it's all sold out. Can't wait!

    Cheers

Anyone tried the LAN connectivity? With an ethernet (crossover) cable?

I've tried connecting the CW onto my Windows XP desktop... But it fails every single time. Now I've downloaded drivers for the VAIO from Marvells site and likewise drivers from Intels site for my desktop. But none of them have helped me to get proper connection.

It just says "The network is not identified - No internet access" on the CW. On the XP machine it says it's connected.

    Using this guide btw: http://www.dibugs.com/how-create-ne...computers-using-ethernet-cable-and-xp-windows

As VAIO disbles the Intel VT, what is the signifigance of this?
What gotchas should I be looking for? ie.How does it affect compatibility with peripherals?
Why does VAIO disble this feature when INTEL has built it in?

To someone who has overclocked the 230m:

What do you change to set the memory value higher than 816Mhz?

:D A little walkthrough would be nice, I'm not as technically minded when it comes to overclocking GPU's.

Sony no longer disables access to the VT features of the processor. it can now be enabled in the bios, as long as the processor supports it (With the VAIO CW the only processors offered that support VT are the P8700 and the T9600).

It wont affect the compatibility of peripherals. The only things that use VT is virtual machines (windows virtual pc[XP mode], VMware etc),Hypervisors, and the Hyper-v function in windows server 2008. There isn't any performance differences in normal applications (Games, office, media, internet explorer etc).

Show hidden files first then navigate to:

    C:\Users\??????\AppData\Local\NVIDIA Corporation\nTune\Profiles

(replace ?????? with your windows username)

open osbootpf.nsu file with notepad and change the GPUMEMMHZ0= in there to whatever you want. (mines at 900) then restart the laptop.

Why would they discontinue the CW? It's one of the best selling laptops they have... If not THE best selling one?

It doesn't have any major issues that we know of which could lead to a discontinuation and it's available in pretty much all Sony online stores.

I'm currently waiting for sony to restock the 230M gpu, but have no idea if and when they will... Any guesses, suggestions, or reputable resellers with better configs you might have bought from/ know of?
Thanks guys, I'm getting tired of waiting in the dark on this! Hope they restock soon...

Hey guys, ive been following this forum up until Christmas when i finally got my own. =) Ive put in many hours to personalize my computer. But have come to find an error that occurs when i use the vaio care report. After the one-click care, i get my results, and under maintenance, i get 100+ problems under "disk cleaner", i click it to review the problem and fix it, but after a while or when i restart, i get a higher number of problems under the same category. Anyone else having this, is this normal? I had a chat with cs, and have sadly rebooted my computer. But prob still occuring. need help please. could anyone run their vaio care program and tell me what they get?

Just got mine in yesterday and getting it all set up. I notice the start up time has slowed significantly. What are your start up times like? I installed Norton 360, Webroot internet security as well. Wondering how those things may be affecting it as well

I tried to order a CW this evening and could not =(

I tried a couple different variations on the options re: video card, blue-ray or not cd/dvd, fresh start, etc. - and nothing. It takes me all the way to the 2nd page of options and that's it, no option to buy.

Are they completely out of stock on all CW models?
