In US only the Vaio Display Premium is available. In Asia there is both Plus and Premium and in Europe 3 according to you. I think 1600x900, 1920x1080 plus, and 1920x1080 premium, right ?
And yes the screen on the F22 is better than macbook pro and thinkpad W520. It has much higher contrast ratio than both and better viewing angles and color saturation.
-
Yes. 1600x900, 1920x1080 plus, and 1920x1080 premium *)
Ok, F22 with premium display, i think, will be my next laptope *)
thx. -
Hope the next F22 will have the same screen as the F22 3D does currently w/o the added cost of 3D. 17 inch laptops w/ 1080p IPS display costs too much, so I hope this happens. -
^^
Of course people can have subjective opinions about screen quality. But objectively the F22 screen is superior to the Macbook Pro in every area be it contrast ratio, black levels, brightness, color accuracy and viewing angles. In fact as far as contrast ratio goes it is the No.1 screen in the market today beating F21 3D, HP Elitebook IPS Dreamcolor, Asus G74SX etc. And matches the high end desktop monitors.

Hi,
I will be getting my Sony vaio VPCF226FM from best buy. The first thing, I will be looking is to install Ubuntu Linux. Is any one using Ubuntu on their Sony Vaio f22?
Linux users, please let me know your experince with f22.
Thanks,

I love this machine but I've found a problem with the audio that I just can't seem to correct.
Whenever I play an audio file, the sound seems to fade in very quickly instead of starting immediately at full volume. This makes it sound like the beginning of the sound is cut off.
This even happens with the speaker test buttons in the audio properties dialogs.
Does anybody know if there is a setting somewhere that affects this? I've tried looking everywhere in Windows and in the Vaio Control Center, but no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -
Just got mine the other day and I love it. My only gripe is the audio/speakers. Not exactly the greatest. I'm trying to find a way to boost the bass on this thing. Any suggestions?
-
Go to Sound- Speakers- Properties - Dolby Tab- Check Audio Enhancer and Dolby Surround - Apply- OK.
-
-
Sorry Go to Vaio Control Center - Sound Effects - Dolby.
-
-
Of course you will not get good bass but it improves the overall sound.

Where is the air taken in for the cooling system? Are there intake vents underneath, so the extended-capacity battery (or better yet, a fan-equipped laptop cooler) could increase airflow? Or is it through the keyboard, where a keyboard skin could starve the system of cool fresh air?
Despite the 540M (seriously Sony? Not even a 555M, or an Optimus-enabled 540M?), I'm considering this machine because of the great screen and good keyboard. But after NoteBookCheck.net's review, I'm a bit concerned about heat management. -
Hi Guys
Couple of things - firstly, I notice that the UK Sony website are now offering keyboard skins for the F series - not sure whether these are for the F22, although as they have only just become available, I assume so. I'm interested to know whether they plan to increase the range of colours and specifically whether they plan to introduce a UK version of the VGP-KBL3/B available in the US designed specifically for backlit keyboards? Any thoughts welcome- the UK link is here: VGP-KBV3 (VGPKBV3, VGPKBV3/P.UK) : Technical Specifications : VAIO & computing : Sony
Also, a couple of pages back, someone asked about a decent laptop bag/case for the F22 - I have gone for this: Belkin : Messenger Bag for notebooks up to 17" which you can find on Amazon for <£20 - I thought it was a good price for a decent case. Hope this helps,
Cheers
Matt. -
Does the CTO Vaio F have the premium display?
...and I'm in the US/NYC, what's the best route for a VAIO F on a $1200-1300 budget? CTO? Brick & Mortar deal somewhere? I am a college student so maybe a student deal somewhere? -
Edit: Here it is. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+...lack/2794192.p?id=1218351655699&skuId=2794192 -
Give Sony Style a Ring, I've heard they give a 5% discount if your lucky . . . . -
Thanks guys, going to take a look at the models at Bestbuy to get a better feel. I've seen it before and it caught my eye but ended up getting the HP DV6T (after returning a Dell XPS 15z).
My DV6T has great specs, but coming from a Macbook/Envy/XPS 15z, the design/build just doesn't satisfy. The VAIO F doesn't look like it'll be that close either but it sure looks several notches better.
By the way, does anyone know if this VAIO has the high capacity battery or the 2720QM? Amazon's description says that it has the 2720QM but I've seen the same model being advertised as 2630QM. That'd be a pretty huge mistake... No mention of the battery. -
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/specs/VPCF227FXB_mksp.pdf -
Yes, 2720qm seems to be a mistake. The model is listed equipped with i7 2630qm and standard battery in all websites.
-
-
i'm wondering, if i got this laptop at best buy does the Adobe Photoshop Elements also included as a software? or only if you buy this laptop thru sony online store?

Guys, download the notebookcheck Calibrated ICC profile for your screen from here Scroll down to "DISPLAY" and below the display measurements you will see a link "ICC Datei (X-Rite i1Display 2)" Right click on it click save as and save to desktop. After its download follow the steps listed here.
Using this profile will correct the colors on your display and make colors more true to life.
Note:
Use it if your Monitor Hardware ID is CMO1601-N164HGE-L12 -
@Mitlov
I'm a new owner of the F 2D. I am loving the screen and keyboard. I am so happy of my purchase since these two basic things are being overloooked my most laptop hardware makers today. In terms of performance though, I'm satisfied with the i5 2410m, as well as with the nvdia gpu.
My only gripes are the thickness and battery life. I wish Sony included a switchable graphics to have more juice on the go as I bring this laptop with me frequently. I'm averaging 3 hours w/ wifi and 85% brightness, power-saving mode w/ using internet explorer (w/o FLash), and Office programs. I believe if this has the low powered Intel GPU, the battery might strech to as long as 5-6 hours w/ the same usage as I have mentioned. -
I live in Canada but I can't get this laptop with a SSD. I see that you can in the US. Anyone have anymore info on this?

So there may be some upsides to not using the 540M's Optimus system. Fewer bugs. -
Not sure if this has been asked, nor do I remember, as I just finished going through all 19 pages, and my brain might be slightly fried...
Is the motherboard SATAIII compatible? Or is it only SATAII? -
The 3D F21 is SATA3, so I don't see any reason the 3D or 2D F22 wouldn't be as well.
-
And of course, the first thing I'll be doing is buying an SSD, and was simply wondering if I was limited to SATAII or if the newer SATAIII drives would be compatible. -
So about 3 years ago, I bought a lower end F series which is still running fine, but definitely showing its age. So now I really want to buy a new F22. With school starting soon, getting it quickly is somewhat of an important factor to consider so I'm currently debating between getting a CTO of ready to ship from Sony, or just picking up the model available at best buy.
What have people's experiences with ordering from sony been like? Are there any specific customization options that I would miss by buying it from best buy? I mainly plan on using it for general multimedia stuff and some light-medium gaming so I don't expect to need any of the top end specs. The model at Best Buy seems pretty close to what I would want if I ordered a custom one so I'm wondering if there are any major deficiencies that I'm overlooking. Thanks in advance. -
-you would be missing the Adobe Software bundle
-you would be getting a lower speed 5400 HDD (which you can replace yourself if you wish)
-you would be missing the option to upgrade to a BluRay writer
-you would be missing the option to upgrade your CPU
Also, since you are a student, you would be missing out on student discounts through Sony, which may be worth it to you. I haven't looked recently, but it used to be a nice discount if you purchase an extended warranty. If you were not interested in the extended warranty, it would pretty much be a bust though. But look or call them to see what their current student discounts are and also if they will give you an extra discount for ordering through them instead of best buy - I only got 5%, which only covered half my sales tax, but better than nothing. Then configure a CTO the way you would want it to see the price and you will have all the info you need to make a decision.
Also, it usually takes about 2 weeks for a CTO model (unless it says differently on the order page) so that may be too long for you to wait? But if you did go the CTO route, memory is much cheaper these days, so I would just configure the 4GB and then buy your own 8GB. -
+ I believe, students don't pay tax either. And are supposed to get a 10% discount. -
Hey guys,
I have a tough time deciding between this and the Asus N53.
for my particular budget (<$1k bc it's a tech grant), N53 has a faster video card, Optimus enabled, and the Sony has a better screen, but same res. What runs cooler, looks nicer (I know, subjective, but what the hell), has better build quality? I haven't had the chance to see either one in person and don't know if I will before I buy. What are other significant differences between the two?
Thanks! -
If you are really into Gaming then get the N53, otherwise get the F22 Much better screen and overall build quality and feel. P.S. I hope you mean the N53 has Nvidia GT550M and the F22 has Nvidia GT540. If you're talking about the F22 with Nvidia GT520M then I would not recommend it.
-
Aww well, learn something new everyday . . .
I dont live in the states anyways so i would be hard pushed to pick up the discount on an Irish degree. -
-
I guess - but when I configure a machine, and check out (all the way to inputing CC info) it isn't adding tax. At one point there was tax, but it was taken away once I continued.
I could enter in my info, and pay (no tax).

hi every one ...
I want to ask a question ... I intend to bey a vaio f 22 a customized model over sony store costed $1740 (i didn't order it yet) ... I'm an interior design student so I will use it for graphic design with autocad , 3ds max , photoshop and other graphics programes ... but I'm not sure if the f 22 is the best choice for me because there is the hp dv7(i' m not a fan of hp actually) , the dell xps 15z , the macbook pro 13" (i heard that it has an over heat problem) or the 15" (but i'm not sure that i can afford it) .... so i want your advice ... should i go for the f 22 or for a different choice???? -
Hi guys, how do you like your F22`s so far?? I need your advice. I am planning to purchase this system. I was wondering If the Sony will be announced new F Series for 2012. Should I wait for couple of months more? My budget is maximum $1200 anyway.
Is it true that the screen is matte but not glossy? If it`s not glossy what`s the point of having fullHD screen.
VPCF2290X 2D Configure-to-Order
*Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM quad-core processor (2.0GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 2.90GHz
*Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
*16.4" 2D Full HD LCD display (1920x1080) with LED backlight
*Silver
*NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M (1GB VRAM) dedicated graphics
*CD/DVD player / burner
*500GB (7200rpm) hard drive
*6GB (4GBx1 + 2GBx1) DDR3-SDRAM-1333
Total: $1129.99
PS: I don`t need Blu-ray. Since I will be using the laptop for mostly and only for gaming, which one is more important (Processor or Memory) ?
I was thinking of getting E Series with 17.3". But there is no option for FullHD screen also F series graphic card is better.
Thank You -
Ideally, a better GPU is what your after, but a processor is more important than the amount of ram - since there's still quite a few games out there that are CPU hungry. -
Hi,
I am considering purchasing the Vaio F Series VPCF22KFX/B, but I'm confused about the screen.
It's Monitor 1920x1080 Matte VAIO Display Premium or 1920x1080 VAIO Plus Display?
The keyboard of the F22 2D it's the same or compatible F11, F12 and F13 ?

Hi! i've made a big mistake, so only you guys can help me! i've bought new vaio f22 (VPCF22FGX/B - great laptop i think), but i've lost HDD from it. it's a long story how it's happened, but now i put new hdd on it & really need recovery dvd. maybe someone can post it on torrents or smth else? drivers on official sony support doesnt work. please someone help me, i can't find recovery dvd on net!
-
Hey everyone, this is actually my very first post on a forum ever!
But I decided I would post here because I know there aren't very many reviews for the Sony Vaio 2290x (2D) version yet. I have had it for about three days now and here are somethings that I have observed.
First, I have the 2D version in Silver, with 8gm ram, the i7 2720, 1gb graphics, and a regular 640gb (7200 RPM) hard drive, and the extended battery.
-The power supply is very big, but not heavy. It's rather light weight. Also, when the battery is done charging it stops giving the battery power. This is really convenient so your battery doesn't wear out as quick
-Heat: The computer is super quite when you are just browsing the internet/listening to music. However, during initial set up (where you're installing all your programs, transferring your files and all that) the computers fan REALLY kicked in. It's pretty loud I thought, compared to my old HP Pavillion. However, even though the fan kicks in when it needs to the computer does not get hot! It gets "warm" at the most. When it comes to gaming I can't give you a review on that because I don't do any gaming
-The display: IS AMAZING! it's exactly what you would expect from a 1080p display. And it's not glossy!
-Speakers- Really these aren't any different from any other laptop speakers. I had somewhat of an expectation from them since Sony advertises a "S Force Surround Sound" or whatever. Really, they're NOTHING special. Just regular laptop speakers. I have tried tweaking some settings, but even then couldn't tell much of a difference. (edit: actually eehpeehthreeh informed me about the "vaio control center" where I enabled the Dolby Audio enhancer feature and it made a HUGE difference in the sound quality. Much better! Although, again it's not the best in the world.)
-Camera- Okay so I had pretty high expectations for this "HD Webcam powered by an EXMOR sensor". Really though it didn't seem very "HD" there was still some grain to it. In low light it performs just as crappy as any other laptop webcam. It does however, represent colors more accurately then my old HP's webcam.
- The touchpad: It has a really nice feel to it and is a pleasure to use compared to other laptop touchpads. But really just go into a store that has these in stock and you can judge it yourself.
-Battery Life: So I haven't done any formal testing. However, when the battery was 100% charged I unplugged it (took note of the time) and did my entire initial set up. This includes burning the recovery disk, downloading software that I had on my old computer, downloading 150mb worth of windows update and having them installed, transferring old files, putting in old software disc, and setting things up in general. The laptop lasted me through the whole process giving me exactly 3 hours and 35 minutes of battery life until it reached 10% at which point I plugged it back in. Now keep in mind I had to do numerous restarts of the computer because lots of things were being installed. Also, remember that I have the extended battery.
-Keyboard- Very comfortable to type on. Back light keyboard is really nice. No complains here.
-Size/Weight: So this is something that I was considering when I was deciding what laptop to get. Honestly, although this laptop is big and rather "fat" it's not very heavy. I mean I don't see myself taking it to many places for an extended period of time anywhere. So I was okay with sacrificing size and weight for performance.
So there you have it. Those were my initial observations. I hope this helps some of you one way or another. Honestly, I love this laptop. It's replacing a 3 year old HP pavilion that constantly was overheating and whining about every little task that was thrown at it. I could post come pictures of my computer if someone request them as well.
