Yes, I also pre-ordered mine last week :)

    13'' Black
    i5-4200u 1.6 GHz
    256GB SSD
    8GB RAM

Delivery seems to be around 29-30 October, I also got the 7% student discount and the "free" 4-year warranty.
The issue with the Ethernet/VGA-Dongle is the same in Switzerland, claimed to be free but added CHF 65 to the amount. Whatever, I just hope there will be no problems with the WIFI connection as already mentioned  Maybe it would have been better to get the 14'' with the ethernet-port, we will see  anyway I'm really excited to get mine next week, I hope there won't be any delay!

    I ordered one too.

    14 inch. Black
    i7
    8GB
    128 GB SSD.
    Digital stylus
    Windows 8 Pro

First configuration was i5 with 256 GB ssd. But seeing I have an external 1 terabyte disk I decided to flip things around for a bit more power for a added value of 10 euros.

Prettttyyy excited, but estimated delivery is 28 nov. Which I'm sure will be delayed..

Btw, does the 14A have a magnetic a/c charger?

I called the sony support and the production of my order hasn't even started.. ?!?!?!
Still my status, for the 13' i7 8gb 256gb SSD, is delivery 22/23 but helpdesk suggests somewhere around the end of the month?!
They will let me know when they ship?

But no hard dates, shortage of components according to the employee :-(
If that is the case why haven't I be notified that the order is delayed?!

I know it is a new product but you can't tell me they haven't be stockpiling the basis first and that for the order it is just adding the 'extra' components..
    Disappointed in Sony thus far!

be carefull, the 128 gb disk only gives you 60 GB of free space...or if you have your external always with you, not a problem offcourse.
my delivery date for almost same config is 12 nov

...and only the 13" has magnetic charger

Meh 60gb will be enough. I barely listen to music on my laptop and delete a movie once I watched it.

Sucks not to have a magnetic charger though, I like the click :( .

there is no ethernet on the 13" but you can use usb3 to gigabit lan adapter

and most of the space SSD space can be restored by disabling hibernation and pagefile, and removing recovery to usb drive

Sony disappointed me before I even ordered. I signed up to the Sony newsletter specifically to get a 'Special pre-order offer' for the Flip and still to this day I've heard nothing from them. I ended finding the Flip available by randomly looking on Sony's website. I don't understand how they can screw that up really, it feels like they just don't care very much :(.

    Anyway, my order was for:

    Flip 13A
    Core i7
    256GB
    8GB
    Win 8 Pro (I assume that's 8.1 right?)

Expected Delivery date was 10-29th Oct, they haven't sent me an email to say the build has been started yet...

No 8 pro is just windows 8 with more 'network' options. see here All windows 8 editions can be upgraded to 8.1 for free.

The most important difference for regular users is that in pro, you can install windows media center afterwards.
In windows 8, this is not possible...

But i guess most people use xbmc anyway...

I'm thinking about ordering one of these and have a few question that I'm hoping some might have answers to (I don't know if anyone has received theirs yet)...

    1. Does it have an accelerometer that causes the display to automatically switch to portrait mode when held that way?

    2. Is it easy to swap out the battery - e.g. on a plane on a long flight if you have a spare battery with you?

    3. Is it possible for end-users to swap out the harddrive? Is the harddrive accessible by simply removing a cover plate on the bottom?

    4. I've heard in the past horror stories when it comes to getting raw drivers from Sony. I.e. they always want you to install their full suite of software and nothing else. Is that still the case or have they come to their senses? I.e. can I wipe the drive and do a fresh install of Windows and drivers (without any Sony utility software) from scratch?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    1. Yes it has

    2. For the 13" i think not, all is onboard to keep it within ultrabook specs. So no changing ssd, ram or battery (ofcourse if
you dissasemble you probably can change battery)
...check this reverse dissasembling video, it's from 14" or 15" Sony VAIO® | Flip PC: Reverse Teardown - YouTube
(i'm sure this is not 13", because you see a 2.5" SSD)

    3. See 2

    4. I never go to a company's download page. When i repair pc's i do a fresh windows install and then use driver genius
for searching and installing latest missing drivers. never had any problems, even with vaio's...

Cool thanks for the quick reply. I didn't even think to check for a tear down video, that explained a lot, and it does look like both the SSD and the RAM on the 15" model are very easy to replace, which is good news. The battery is a shame, but to be expected.

Now I just need to do some soul searching and decide if I should upgrade my old laptop with one that can't be docked. I suspect I'll get annoyed plugging and unplugging my video, power, USB, and LAN twice a day as I go to/from work...

    Cheers,
    Chris

WELP just got a call from Sony that my order is cancelled, they didn't accept my paypal payment, for god knows what reason.
So I wanted to place a new order, seems that they are out of 128gb ssd's. So now I have to wait till it's back in stock to place a new order.
Which means my delivery date is being postponed.

    SMH.

are you using paypal for a long time?

because if you havent, in the beginning you have like a 1500$ limit. when reached that limit you have to confirm your credit card with a code found on your creditcard statement.
once confirmed and activated, your account is unlimited.

so if your limit was reached, you can't do any payments anymore until your card is confirmed...

    I pre-ordered mine on monday

    13 inch
    i7-4500U 1,8 GHz
    Windows 8
    256 GB SATA Flash SSD
    8 GB RAM

It should be delivered on the 6. november

Back then I paid 1462 swiss francs.
But I noticed that now you have to pay for the exact same configuration (without the extended warranty) 1575 swiss francs!

Do you have any idea why this might be the case?

Yeah quite a while. I've been ordering a lot of items from ebay using my paypal. My paypal is connected to my bank account, not to my credit card or something. Also paypal processed the payment already, Sony decided not to accept it and now I recieved the amount back on my paypal-account.

Thanks for the reply to that guys! I should have been more clear there, I do know that 8.1 is not Pro, what I meant to say was that the Flip would come with Win 8.1 and not 8.0, purely because it's being shipped after the launch of 8.1. Interesting about the media center stuff though, I didn't know that. I do use XBMC anyway, but I will look into that.

Oh btw, I noticed the price of my configuration has gone up in the UK now (i7, 8GB, 256GB, Win 8 Pro). It was £1274, but now it's gone up to £1419 + £140 for the extended warranty.

It looks that there was some change to 13" i7, its more expensive now, also 15" i5 and i7 are more expensive, at least in polish store. But 14" is still the same which doesnt make sense. Also price for ethernet/vga is fixed

When i ordered on the 9th it was clearly mentioned that the extended warrenty was only when purchased (not ordered) before the 20th...
I'm not shure if there were other discounts that ended the 20th...
ordering and purchasing are 2 different things... they can't change price after a purchase...

edit: i called support to check if everything was still the same.
they said that once order is placed and confirmed (paid or not paid makes no
    difference) price can't change.
but the promo is changed now from a free 4 year warranty to free upgrade from
    4 to 8 GB RAM

Just ordered a new setup: 13A with i7, 128GB, 8GB ram, for 1261,09 euros uncluding the 4 year warranty for free. Costumer support hooked me up with free ram upgrade from 4 to 8 GB because of the extra trouble.

Plus my delivery date reduced with 2 weeks, I hope.

Looks like i was lucky. i7,8GB, 256GB SSD + dongle for 1098€ incl 4 years. Had the 25% coupon and student discount :). Still have to wait till 31/10.
Do you guys think that Sony will release a good notebook sleeve for the 13?

Yeah that 25% coupon made you very lucky. But I thought that any discount coupon cancels out the studentdiscount? At least thats what they told me when I asked for an extra discount. They could only give 5% which is less than the studentdiscount.

The free ram upgrade is the special offer going on now on Sony.nl.

Let's just hope we will recieve our flips before Sinterklaas :p .

Anyway they stated my order should be ready for dispatch on 28th to 2nd... not too much longer!
    Still minimal reviews outs.

If you spec up the Flip 13 in the UK now (not when I ordered) there is an extra tab at the end for accessories. In there is a sleeve so I assume the Flip 13 fits inside it (would be silly if it didn't), but it is not specifically for this model. It's part number is: VGPCP24.AE, here it is being sold on Amazon:

Sony VAIO Carrying Pouch for 13 inch notebooks: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

I thought this one looks interesting ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/EasyAcc®-Macbook-Sleeve-Carrying-Ultrabook/dp/B00DE80OUG), but I'm also looking on Etsy to see if there is anything a bit more special.

On a different note - I noticed that there is still no N-Trig pen included in the accessories section (say if you wanted an extra one). There is however an N-Trig pen available as an accessory for the Vaio Duo range. I wonder if these pens are different. I know that the Duo N-Trigs are duosense version 2 and are supposed to be better than older ones, but I think that's the latest version that exists. Does anyone else know anything more about this?

Thanks for the links. Would like one with a zipper or something like that, because I want to leave the sleeve in my bag and only take the flip out, but its kind of hard to find :x. Something like the DUO 13 sleeve would be nice.

Thanks for sharing TZac, I guess I will just keep glancing my phone for new mails from Sony and add a special ringtone for them :)

    About the case/pouch/bag:
I have personally considered the VAIO PRO Case since it looks quite exclusive
    Sony VGPE-MCP13 Slipcover for Vaio Pro 13 - Black:Amazon:Computers & Accessories

However, Teiger, I haven't considered your point about leaving in the bag before, and I like it. How about this one? (also looks quite neat, especially the third picture, I think):
Sony VGP-CK2 Slipcover for Vaio Duo 13:Amazon:Computers & Accessories

Yeah, the second one is exactly what I want. But I dont know if it fits, cause the flip is in one dimension about 1cm longer than the DUO 13.

Like I said on the other Vaio Flip thread already:

I ordered a 13A with i5, 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD from the German store on October 9. Original delivery date was October 22/23.
Yesterday I received an email stating that my laptop is being produced now and will presumably be shipped between October 28 and November 2, so I guess delivery will be some time around November 4... (depending on how long it takes to ship it from Asia to Germany)

I'll probably be getting a bag from Dawanda (I think the US equivalent would be Etsy) - biggest choice possible, usually you can get things custom made, and cheaper than in "regular" stores.

I have done some research :) And as far as I can see the different the three current VAIOs here are about the same dimensions:
    VAIOdimensions.png
But as you have mentioned, teiger, the Duo is about 1cm deeper/wider. Though we also have to take into consideration, for the DUO 13 Slip Cover, that it is made to fit the DUO 13 + its pen attached on the (short) side of the DUO.

Furthermore for the specific DUO 13 slip cover, a reviewer on Amazon reports that he would like it to be slightly smaller.

Yeah, I guess we are all waiting on our toes.
SONY could inform me that the high demand on the product has put heavy preasure on the production.

Leaving me with potentially 14 days of waiting in total from the initial expected delivery date of the 25th of October (for flip13)

Could this increase in demand have anything to say about SONY raising their prices?

Can't wait to get my hands on the machine. Ordered mine last week. Latest email suggests I will get it next week. Went for the following:

    Design:
    Silver

    Configured:
    Intel® CoreTM i7-4500U 1.8 GHz
    Windows 8
    512 GB SATA Flash SSD
    8 GB 1600 MT/s DDR3L-SDRAM
    33.7 cm LED, 1920x1080
    With digitizer stylus (pen)
No Ethernet Wi-Fi & VGA dongle

Feels a bit odd to have ordered a machine without trying it out at a shop first, or before any real reviews have come out, but hopefully it won't disappoint.

Yes, but the whole point of looking at the Duo cover is that it can accommodate the pen as well. So Vaio Flip + pen will be wider.

Ordered on the 9th of October and just received first communication from Sony, account is still showing for delivery between the 11/10 and 23/10

The fact this is the first email to say that my order has been delayed after an initial delivery between the 11th and the 23rd of October but now I can't cancel because production has started can't say I'm very impressed, do Sony normally debit your account straight away because the majority of other companies don't charge until dispatch.

I emailed Sony yesterday for updates on my order. Received a response today, stating that my order will be shipped on 7th Nov.

    Are there differences in shipping?
I see in some of the messages that it is sent to the european warehouse and then shipped to the destination address, while in my email message is no mentioning of the European warehouse and no extra 2-3 days?! Just a mentioning when it will be shipped from the factory.. A call to the supper earlier this week told me that the order is shipped directly to the destination address?!?!

My first email talked about going to a European warehouse first whereas my update today did not mention this. Hopefully it will come direct to save any further delay.

When I ordered the Vaio Pro 13, I was also told about going to a European warehouse, but my order reached me within 48 hours from China.

Yes I am using it now. Haven't done much except doing all the Windows Updates. It came with Windows 8 not 8.1. And the fan is quite annoying so far.
