Wow fan that loud? Which size you get

Please put up a review or first impressions. Can the fan noise be lowered?
-
Also curious to hear what you think of the thing so far. I'm surprised to hear the SSD model needs the fan to spin up much at all, since it doesn't need to cool off a spinning disk (the 13 inchers only come with SSD, right?)
I've thought about wandering in to a Best Buy and seeing what it's like, but since I've ordered my 15a already (i7, 256SSD, 16GB RAM, 2GB Graphics, and 2880 x 1620 display) I decided I want my first hands on impression to be my machine. That's gonna be a few weeks though. Sony Store website says my order has been "sent to warehouse" but won't arrive until around nov 17. The SSD seems to be what set that date back. -
-
BTW, my original delivery date was Nov 2-3, in their latest email they say it's 3-8. I hope it won't be pushed farther than that, I couldn't take it. -

I can't seem to turn off the auto brightness on this thing. When I am in my room the screen even on the highest setting won't get that bright. I've googled and they all say its in the Vaio Control Center -> Image Quality. But I don't have the option for Automatic Brightness.

Go to the charms -> settings -> press the text saying "Change PC-settings" (or computer-settings) -> (it will open up some app-like settings) -> go to "General" -> scroll Down to "Display" (/"Screen") -> here you can turn it on and off
otherwise I also found this for you as another option (though more cumbersome). How to turn off adaptive brightness on Windows 8 - YouTube -

Can you give a review of the pen usage.
I have one 13A in order but as I need it for note taking(and
then translation to text) I would like to know how it preforms.

Nobody has done a full battery rundown yet?

Can anyone check the wifi strength on it? I had the Vaio Fit and returned it hoping this one was better. Can you walk away from your router and check the speed? Thanks!

Anyone know if there is two slots for HDDs? I've seen it isn't on the 13 or 14, but does the 15 have like one mSATA and one SATA, perhaps? Looking for SSD as C: and a HDD as storage, since big SSDs are so expensive

Good to know, I think I'll run one more battery test overnight with the settings turned off as described above.
side note: as mentioned in the other Flip thread, I received the stylus and shoulder bag.
The shoulder bad is a stm alley air bought off of Amazon and the 13A fits perfectly in it. Actually alot more things fit in it. it is a bit bigger than I thought but currently I can put both the Flip 13A and my Dell Inspiron in it and still have space for a few minor things. Once I fully stop using the Dell and use the 13A only, the bag can put in the power adapter and other stuff in it.
Here are the pic of the bag next to the Flip 13A.
First flap open showing 3 small pockets
3 internal compartments
back side view with another compartment
Flip 13A inside first compartment
Bag closed with Flip 13a and Dell Inspiron inside

I am interested in buying a flip so I went to Best Buy to check them out. I was surprised to see that they had all three sizes on display. In comparing the 13 to the 14, the 14 was much heavier than the 13. It felt like it was twice as heavy, even though the form factor was not that much larger. It was certainly uncomfortable to hold in one hand. Now the 14 had a regular hard drive and the 13 a ssd drive, so I don't know if that contributed or not to the weight. The 15 was huge, and is not really practical to use as a tablet, other than sitting on a desk or table. The 13 did not have an ethernet port, which the 14 and 15 had, and the 15 had 3 usb 3.0 ports, while the other two had just 2. One thing about the design I did not like was the deck of the 14 and 15. The deck is larger to accommodate the larger screen, but the base underneath the deck is not. Therefore there is a rather sharp ledge overhang on these models. I can also see it getting in the way of plugging in things to the ports, since the shelf overhangs where the ports are. After checking out the three sizes, the 13 seems the most versatile, especially if you plan to use it as you would a tablet.

I do desperately want to upgrade from my six year old Dell. I've been waiting for the best match to my desired specs (price isn't my biggest concern) for nearly two years. Finally the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga and Ideapad Pro 2 came along, then the three Sony Flip models. I probed the web for data in the months past and, as data leaked out, I finally thought I would have several choices. Alas one thing is keeping me from making a purchase - battery life.
I just don't get how Apple is squeezing out 10+ hours with a Haswell i5 and the PC community can only promise something near 7 hours but users are only getting 5 hours. As if that isn't bad enough these new computers don't have user replaceable batteries. Give me a break. If I can't replace the battery at least give me 8-10 hours of useful battery life. That way in two or three years when the battery is losing its ability to hold a charge it will still be on the order of 4+ hours.
So I'm back to square one. I will only buy a convertible Windows 8.x computer. These Sony Vaio Flips have good prices, good specs, and I like the design. What's up with the battery life!!! -
I currently have the Duo 13 and was thinking of switching to the Fit/Flip 13...any Duo 13 owners here that made the switch to the flip?

It depends on what you do. I would probably hook it up after a holiday to copy the odd 30 - 40 GB of photos to my NAS and desktop system. It's not a necessary accesory, but it can come in handy. You could also use it as a sort of docking station and have a keyboard and mouse connected to it if you like. Then again, it is an accessory. You don't have to buy it.
-
Having an SD card slot for my DSLR photos is a must for me. That's why the Lenovo and Sony Flips are on my list. Dell has a few interesting models but they left the SD card slot out so they aren't on my list. -
I have a fast 32 GB SD card, but I will typically do singe Lightroom editing on holiday already. Then it will bee easier to copy the whole catalog over the network, instead of doing it indirectly through an SD card or pen drive.

So no one is having problems with WiFi range? makes me a little less worried about this!

Woohoo! Mine is being shipped (aka Little Johnny is coming with his trolley). No tracking ref yet, so I imagine it is ready to be shipped, rather than actually shipped.
For ref, I ordered on the 20th Oct, went into production 29th Oct. (13A, 8GB, 256GB SSD, with VGA/Ethernet adapter).HoodCP likes this. -

Just got an email with the TNT consignment number. It is being shipped directly from China (Shanghai) to me. TNT says it is at Shanghai airport! Arrives Monday. Shame, not in time for the weekend.

It's amazing how Sony does its production planning. Early ordering apparently does not mean you get it first. It's appaling that Sony cannot seem to ship orders from the first batch while it is shipping orders of a week and a half later. Mind you, I'm talking about similar to identical configurations. I'm starting to get the feeling that the ordering process is flawed as well. Each time they change the planning, my account gives a changed 'order date'.
-
Going to my online account also shows that their systems are not talking to each other as there's no information there about dispatch, unlike what was in the email I got. -

To everyone who is having a problem with shipment, i would suggest posting on this thread: Sony Vaio Fit 15 Flip PC Shipment Delays - Sony's Community Site
-
yup, today got a delay message
and yesterday sony confirmed me on the phone i would get it next week... -
Ordered mine at Oct 9th (Austria, EU), after it was delayed twice (info via email) I got a notification about shipment this Tuesday and a tracking ID on Wednesday.
It will be delivered tomorrow in the afternoon via TNT.

Meh. Ordered mine (same congig as yours and same color!!!) on Oct 21, have just gotten the message about them delaying shipment another week. Although I'm in Switzerland, which would even be closer to them ....ers. Jeeez, SONY, seriously! I'm guessing they started production on Oct 29 or about, when we all got their messages, and not a day before. This is so unprofessional. Yeah, you can choose any pizza you like from the menu, in the meantime I'll go plant the tomatoes...
I'm so maaaaaaaad at them, I think I'm gonna scream their heads off right now.
Hey, Karcsi, not a fellow Hungarian by any chance? -
Lucky you, I ordered 14 inch, silver on Oct 12th. Today it was again delayed (4th time) to November 19th / 21st dispatch date.
As the last delay was only 3 working days ago, and they promissed delivery November 14th-16th they are getting worse, and seems still to have massive problems with the production (products ???).
keep you informed. -
The second time they delayed it (which was 29.10.) to 2. Nov. / 7.Nov.
I'll receive it tomorrow, only one day later.
Hopefully the fan isn't too loud and the battery lasts longer than 5h ... would be very disappointing to wait for weeks and then getting a product which I don't like. -
I'm more than angry with Sony
