Very strange. I think I'll reflash the BIOS. But everytime I try to do that I get a message saying that I got the latest verion BIOS. Is there a way to fool the laptop into reflashing it?

Hey all I have a sony vaio flip 14 just with windows 8.1 pro just wondering if anyone has updated to windows 10 and what is the verdict?
-
This whole thread is dead. Thank god I sold miy flip and got a new laptop from another company.. thank god!!. No more stupid headaches now
-
I still love my Vaio Flip 13A, when you know how to use it, it's the perfect device, but I understand it's not for newbie because to much problem to resolve.
-
Same with my Flip 15A. I use it as my main PC.
For games though, I switched back to my 3 year old Dell M4700 (i7 3840-QM; 32GB RAM; NVidia K2000M 2GB video RAM) 2 weeks ago after I started playing Homeworld Deserts of Kharak. The Flip 15A can only run it at 1280x768 40Hz at medium graphics settings. The Dell, because it's a quad-core, can run the game at full hd, 1920x1080 40Hz at ultra graphics settings.
The Dell has more muscle but when it comes to moving around, the Flip doesn't break my back and it can run on batteries for 4 - 4.5 hours. -
I still love this laptop and I'm a bit sad Sony doesn't make them anymore. Hopefully the new Vaio company will continue to make laptops based on this model in the future when it's time to get something else, but that won't be for a long time.
When I first bought it, it was the only laptop on the market which met my requirements, being HiDPI, 16GB of RAM and digitizer pen support. And I think the flip design beats every other hybrid solutions to date. With my SSD and wi-fi card upgrade it also still feels fresh, hence why I'm not getting anything else for a long time.
It's obviously not a gaming computer though. But even though I'm a gamer I've always preferred the fun and quirky games out of Japan and those I enjoy on consoles anyway. Also, throttling doesn't seem to be an issue for me if I'm using Throttlestop.
So I'm still a happy owner.gingk0 likes this. -
Mezi works even better on Windows 10.

Single key fell off on Sony VAIO Fit 14A Flip PC SVF14N11CXB
It would seem that I use my left arrow key (which is also the Home key when used with the Fn key) more times than most keys, since it has fallen off. The key mechanism works, just the thin rectangle key button cover has fallen off. The key cover will rest on the button, but it is loose and keeps falling off. Is there a recommended method of reattaching this so that it doesn't fall off? Are there certain types of recommended glues and techniques or other advice?
Thank you for reading this and offering your feedback!

Hello,
I have a new problem with my fit 13A (Pro 8.1 and same with 10). the "touch" of elan smart pad works well but for the last 4-5 weeks the use of the 2 buttons is random and mostly simple clicks randomly trigger double clicks. Therefore it’s difficult to select and move elements on screen it’s not reliable. Only solution I found is to use the pen !!
All this makes the use of smart pad very difficult. I have uninstalled reinstalled on the drivers and moved to win 10 but nothing changed. It occurs even without activating the elan functionality with the basic driver! In short it is not related to the functions of "tap" apparently. Maybe a something wrong with the hardware part when pressing the 2 buttons.
Thanks
Another small issue i have since i moved to win 10 is the audio volume wich is low. Only solution is to put it at max ! If better ideas ...Last edited: Jun 27, 2016 -
I have a Flip 13 and after updating to W10 it told me Intel WiDi (Wireless Display) no longer works.
I only did the upgrade because this month it's still free.
But I use it mostly with Kubuntu 16.04 on a USB3 stick.
When I have time, I will do some more testing with W10.
One word of caution. It's better to uninstall any 3rd party anti-virus before upgrading to W10. -
Hi I'm also among those who updated to win10.
I did a full recovery to factory, then updated all the sony sw and applied all the windows updates, then upgraded to 8.1.
Then again updated all the sony bits and installed the win updates also.
Now I updated to W10 (resolved the touchpad bug, updated the intel and the Geforce drivers and such...)
Now comes the fun part:
The device does not seem to recognize, that there is a rotation sensor in my Flip15 (rotation lock is greyed out, even in tablet mode)
Maybe a driver is missing. Which can be the driver which is missing ?
Any of you encountered a problem like this ?
Ive got an SVF15N1S2ES -
I tested tablet mode on my Flip 13 and it works as expected. When I flip the screen, Windows 10 asks me if I want to enable rotation of the screen and I tested if rotation works. I'm afraid I don't know which driver takes care of this.
-
Now its working, however, I cant set rotation lock
WEIRD -
In the meantime, I don't see it reported here, but actually the lower hinge (the hinge connecting the base and the lid) is broken. I can use it, but on the right connection it sits deeper than it is intended. Actually I can lift it to the normal position. Just a few millimeters. Also there is something inside the case, if i roll or yaw the case, I hear it travel from on side to the other. I assume the hinge broke. However I can use it full fledged.
-
I have a SVF15N190S. The rotation lock works for me. However, I took the clean install route - Win8.1 clean install; install Sony Drivers; upgrade to Win10 just to get the licence and activation; then clean installed Win10 and installed Sony Drivers.
Almost all of the Sony hardware customizations are handled by the "Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device" driver. Most probably, you're missing that. -
It's getting time to retire my flip... so many keys on the keyboard have broken. I just can't type properly anymore - this is the finall straw. It's a real shame the performance of this machine was never as good as its looks. Will hold out for another few weeks to see if anything interesting is announced at the IFA in Berlin - as I think the Flip was back in 2013. Thanks to all those who provided support & comments to posts I made over the years.

The graphic chip died slowly on my VAIO 13A multiflip (SVF13) over a period of 6 months, with intermmitent screen for a few months and finally went dead: doesnt even work with an external digital screen but still works with an external analog screen. I tried tightening all the screws on the motherboard to fix the problem, but this did not help. Before dumping the machine, I was wondering if anybody experienced this problem and found a fix to it.
When I bought this machine, I liked its design and concept. Unfortunately, as time went by, the hardware quality revealed itself to be quite poor: I had to replace the fan twice and many little things went wrong as time went by. I know that many laptops do not have a very long life expectancy, but this one, actually didnt even reached the year no 3 anniversary. -
Hello people,
I own Sony VAIO flip 15a SVF15N17CXB
i have the following problem. Around a week ago my keyboard started acting strange. namely, letter "I" and "E" started not to be working. however, after some continuous tapping it finally typed the letters. then only the restart could help. after few days, it completely stopped working and few more letters not working now as well. these are: 'Q' & 'E' & 'T' & 'I' & 'G'. I am typing this now with touch keyboard, (fortunately, this one is working flawlessly).
to make sure this is not software related, tried to use the keys in Windows safe mode, BIOS, ran an OS from USB but still no use, they do not work. even activated the sound on keyboard tapping, but those keys do not make any sound.
I have tried disconnecting LED cable described as https://community.sony.com/t5/VAIO-...lace-Vaio-Flip-15-keyboard/td-p/507195/page/4, but didnt help either.
The only reason that comes to my mind could cause this is the playing the video games before this keyboard events occured. I think overheating caused this, Is this even possible that heating could cause few keys to be spoilt on keyboard?
Could you please advice anything else that might fix my problem before i will order a new keyboard from eBay? I'm also afraid it might not be helped
I am on m vacations and this completely spoilt my mood. please help. -
Hello! could someone help me? i own SVF13N1A4RB laptop. and ready to update ssd in it. but i cant figure out if my laptop supports M.2 PCI-E drives or only M.2 SATA?
-
Well, I don't know if anyone looks at the forum any more, but I have a SVF13N27PXB which I am running Windows 10 on. It is working very well, except every time there is a windows update, on restart it freezes on the Vaio logo screen. I then manually turn it off by holding in the power button and restart it. On restart, the update continues and installs with no problem. I guess it is a minor issue, but I would like to know if anyone else has this same problem, and if they have figured out a way to prevent this from happening.

Hey guys,
I have a Vaio flip 13 SVF13N13CXB. I am trying to upgrade to Windows 10 but I get stuck at the Vaio booting screen when the laptop restarts during the installation.
At first, I did a system recovery to revert my laptop back to factory settings. Then, once the laptop boots into stock windows 8, I upgraded everything possible in the Vaio update app. Finally, I downloaded the Windows 10 upgrade installer from www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade
The installer downloaded the necessary file, and during the install process the laptop restarted. It was then my laptop got stuck at the Vaio screen, even after several reboots.
If anyone could give me some insight on how to properly upgrade to Windows 10 I would really appreciate it. Am I using the right windows 10 upgrade file? -
I need recovery of the Vaio Fit 15A. Can someone provide me the link to download recovery or can someone upload the recovery. I will be very thankfull.
-
@yousaf2k
I have a Vaio Fit 15A as well. My 2cents is to just do a fresh Win10 x64 install. Then just install the Sony custom drivers for system components - Sony Firmware Extension Parser, Hotkey Utilities. For rest of the hardware, the Win10 install will take care of them.
If you want to install the VAIO support and utility software, you need to install the Sony Shared library before you install any of the VAIO software. The AUstralian site is more friendly in the sense that it allows you to filter for original drivers - which is what you need. Since you're rebuilding, use 64bit drivers as much as possible. This means you have to use Win x64 OS.
You can get the drivers from the links below. If you want to install the drivers, download the oldest ones. They contain the full installs. The later ones are patches. They won't work unless the original software is installed.

FWIW, I did a fresh install of Win10 on my Fit when Win10 was officially released. You can search this thread for the notes I posted.

This thread is dead and gone but I'm gonna post here anyway!
Just bought a black SVF15N i7 with an Nvidia GPU off eBay for $400. Absolutely gorgeous design!
Replaced the keyboard, upgraded the 1TB HHDD to a Samsung EVO 500GB, added 8GB of RAM for a total of 16GB, cleaned and replaced the thermal paste on the cpu and gpu chips. Did the whole system recovery to 8.1 and upgrade to Windows 10. With BIOS and Windows 10 updates this laptop boots in 7 seconds and runs like the champ!
I like it slightly more than my Surface Pro 4 i7. It's a little more lappable, has a bigger display, plays games a little better (e.g. XCOM2), and the keyboard is nicer. Touchscreen is slightly less responsive, camera quality is worse but this thing is way more repairable!
Wonderful laptop. Wish Sony still made these!!rbar3154 and leventebandi like this. -
Well Vaio is back with the 13 inch flip. Of course it has a very high price, and dont have the dGPU

Looking for info why my 15'' multi-flip refuses to go on after wiping all partitions ( i don't need the Assist button) and installing qube-os.
I do have a rescue USB stick made and used clonezilla to backup all partitions including the win10 that was running for over a year but i am clueless why i cannot switch it on right now. Nothing happens.
I tried Battery reset, clicked it once but still no go.
When i had to replace to keyboard few weeks ago the 500GB SSD looked like a M.2 stick i would just need a USB adapter to clone back the partitions but i am unsure if that would even help.
Any ideas would be very help full. -
nvm i got it to go on again, guess i did not hold the Battery Reset long enough the first time.
For those who run into the same problem. Unplug Power, Hold Battery Reset longer then 5sec, plug in power cord again and press the Assist Button. -
The Intel 7260N wireless card is a piece! Just replaced with the 7260AC variant. Plugged right in and booted right up no issues. Much faster dual-band Wi-Fi!
-
How did you update BIOS and witch version ?
-
Hi guys. the shift keys have stopped working on my keyboard. anyone had this happen ?
Have looked at replacements and am only finding SVF13N1 where as mine is SVF13N2. What is the difference with this ? -
Hi Everyone,
I am finally getting around to upgrading my Flip 14A to have an SSD and a dual-band wireless-AC Wi-Fi card.
I plan to remove the original Hard Drive and leave it the way it is, and perform a fresh install of Windows 10 on the SSD. This was upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 and then finally Windows 10.
Is there any way to re-download or save off the pre-installed software (like ArtRage or the Sony audio/video studios)? Is there any value in doing so, or does the latest Windows 10 updates contain nearly equivalent software?
Thanks! -
Update - need help:
Yesterday morning, I installed the SSD and the new Wi-Fi card, and now the laptop does not boot. I haven't fully reassembled the bottom cover yet.
The battery indicator LED used to light up in amber when plugged into AC power. Then, pressing the power button would turn off this LED, but the LED would turn back on when the power button was released. Either way, the laptop would not boot.
I left it plugged in for a few hours, and in the evening, no LEDs turn on when plugged in. The power button doesn't seem to do anything.
I have tried all combinations of removing and replacing both the new and old Wi-Fi card and Hard Drive/SSD, and nothing seems to work.
I also tried pressing the "pinhole" power reset button on the motherboard a few times, as well as removing and re-seating the battery multiple times.
The only thing I haven't tried is fully reattaching the bottom cover with only the old components.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
The last time the laptop wouldn't boot (a few years ago), re-seating the battery fixed it.
