Think lots of people like myself already posted in the thread saying we did clean windows 7 installs, had no problems with drivers at all.

Unless your talking about something else and I'm offcourse.

You can't download it, you have to get it off the recovery DVDs

press the assist button to get into vaio care, then run recovery&restore , lauch vaio recovery , then reinstall programs and drivers , then click next twice and select program and windvd should be there.

If you have deleted your recover partiton , I have read you can recover windvd from the recovery dvd`s , but you have to do it manually and you need a sony extraction utility, I read this on the Vaio F forum.

has anyone opened up their laptop? please for the love of god some one tell me that the graphics card can *possibly* be replaced, i'm stuck with an ultra crap graphics card.

and how the hell do you get your laptop specs to come up under your reply like all the cool guys here have it?

    You can't replace the GPU.

You're not necessarily stuck with it though.. you could just cancel your order, or send it back when it arrives.

The thing is, if I cancel and try to order again, I cant, they are out of stock and the offer ends today so I wont be able to get a free processor upgrade or blu-ray writer...so well, if some one could conclude, I dont really play much games but would like to have the occasional gameplay. My main use is for video encoding and having like 5 photoshop windows open at the same time, that sort of thing, the reason I am worrying is cause I think a good graphics card also helps with these tasks and thats where I think I screwed up big time...damn....

Or I can cancel and order again, but I will ned them to put my order into priority or something. Do you think Sony will do that?

Have you tried calling them? You could just ask them if they can change your order to include the 5650. If you explain your situation they might offer a solution, you never know.

I guess I'll say this on here for everyone. I called Sony and the guy asked the geeks at Sony. He confirmed that Sony Vaio notebooks CAN have their GPU upgraded/replaced but they recommend that it's done by professionals. So there, thats some news! He told me this without the knowledge of my order so I guess it applies to Vaios in general. He also suggested that it be handed to a Sony Servicing center and not the geek squad or something...WHOOPIE!!!

I have seen pictures of my previous notebooks motherboard a sony vaio f , and the gpu and memory where soldered to the motherboard , it was an nvidia 330m , so i think that sony rep was talking out of his you know what.

This is true, I'm afraid! The GPU is soldered on, it's an integrated part of the mobo. You can't just take one out and plop a new one in. Sony Service don't do GPU upgrades, either. They support memory and HDD upgrades, maybe they just flicked through a helpbook and regurgitated something vaguely related to upgrades.

I wouldn't take anything a tech support helpline says seriously.. they're there to help people who can't figure out how to change their wallpaper, or don't know where to plug the power cord in, not for serious technical questions.

Aw darn, I so badly hoped it wasent soldered in....Any way, the first thing I'm going to do when I get my EB is to take it apart and get down to the bottom of this or I'll be stranded and miserable for life with a HD5470 (with 6 gigs of system RAM!), and what the hell why would you make some of the "4" series better than the "5"? humph...these marketing guys...say, I've been looking around for vaio motherboard pics, Tinderbox, would you know any links?

I ask again: I dont really do much gaming(occasional), but I need to have like a couple of photoshop windows open and encode videos and create movies often, will a HD5470 bring my productivity to an all time low or will the 6gigs and i5 450m compensate?

Laptop was collected for repair today. Wireless signal was cut whenever lid was closed. Downloads would not finish unless lid was always kept open.

Hey guys, I've got a question regarding my VAIO EB (core i5, ATI 5470). I plugged it into my A/V receiver via HDMI a few days ago and it was working fine. Yesterday, while plugged in I closed the lid by accident and it went to sleep. I opened it up a few seconds later, but now the image on my TV only fills ~90% of the screen.

I've restarted the computer, turned the TV and A/V receiver on and off and fiddled around with all the display settings on the laptop (through the VAIO software and just by right clicking on the desktop and clicking on display) but I cannot get the image to fill the screen to 100% again. Everything else is working just fine. Anybody got an idea as to what's going on and how to fix it?

    Thanks.

Sounds like you got the battery drain issue. Try downloading the bluetooth firmware update from the Sony support site, that fixed it for some people.

Hi guys - I actually cannot wait any longer for this laptop to come haha, it's only been something stupid like 5 days since I purchased as well  im so impatient!!!

I'm worrying a bit though, as I have heard that there is a high pitched sound that the e series makes, from the processor? It seems to be hit or miss whether people get it, can anyone let me know if they have that sound and how bad it is?

I'm not that picky and I have a feeling some people may be overreacting, if that's the case I prob won't even notice the sound - but I am worrying now about whether it may be really noticeable

Also does anyone have any ideas on what a good carrying case is for the Vaio EB? Are the sleeves good enough protection?

    Thanks guys!

I can't say I've noticed any such noise with my Vaio wether plugged in or not but half the time I have earphones connected listening to music or playing games, the other half has never said anything about hers so I'm guessing if we do have it its not such a noticable thing.

Sleeve wise I use THIS I travel a lot with work so just have the laptop inside that then sling it into my normal travel bag, it has probably been tossed around quite a bit in the last 3 months and no problems so far.

It's not that bad. It'll be worse for the first couple of weeks but it seems to fade a bit after that as the system 'burns in'. It's also at its worst if you have a USB device plugged in when on battery power.. if you don't use it in that scenario you'll barely notice it.

Does anyone know a possible cause for this? I thought it was the battery, but it seems to have a good capacity, faults in the circuit that handles the battery power conversion and distribution?

If your trying to activate a copy of windows 7 with the key on the underside of the laptop I don't think that works.

I bought Windows 7 when the preorders only cost about £40, I used this copy for my fresh install and so it had its own key.

    Just a quick question.
I placed a sony EB order on 7.Juli.
I get two emails "Order Acknowledgement" and "Payment Cleared".
    Since than nothing.

I can't find the CPU type confirmed.
Is this coded somehow in this codes?
    Product ID : VPCEB2X5E
    Description : Laptop VPC-EB2X - Configurable

Wher can I check production/delivery status?

That is all I have - I ordered on the 8th so don't worry too much.

It does give on the 'payment cleared' email an estimate as to when it will be delivered, it also says that we will get an email to let us know when the laptop has gone into production. I don't think there is anyway to find out before we get that email.

And as for the cpu type, mine doesn't give that either - must just be in the code like you mentioned. I got sent to a screen confirming my order after I entered my payment details, which I printed and that has all the CPU details on so I'm sure they know it all.

I know that most peoples orders take different times to start being made - but does anyone on here know as an idea how long it took from ordering for the email saying their laptop had gone into production? :)

Nobody go anywhere near the Sony UK site for the EB, they've extended the offer period to the 26th, they have just got stock in all except for the i5 450 and 520m, Imna cancel my configuration with the lame hd5470 and make a new order with the hd5650 and I want to do it in peace, so no body touch their pc! When you reach the end of this sentence, you will amazingly only remember not to go to the sony site....1......2....3...poof!

Ati catalyst control center -> desktop and displays -> right click your TV -> configure -> Image underscan/overscan settings.

    Set it at 0%.

Running Ati Catalyst 10.3 or higher? Sonys latest distributed driver was 10.2 but the card has a major bump in performance since 10.3.

So i just got the ea notebook at best buy. The notebook is awesome, but there seems to be a high pitch noise coming from the right side of the notebook every time i plug something into the usb drive. The sound disappears when i don't plug in anything into the usb drive. I really want to use the usb drive so i can use a mouse instead of the touchpad. anyone know what is causing this high pitched noise? Thanks.

Next time before fresh Windows installation you need to get "the real" CD key which is encrypted and hidden in your stock installation. You can do it using this software: Keyfinder | Magical Jelly Bean

Ohh no, they're sold out again - I ordered mine without any problems on the 8th July, so I'll get it still won't I? I went for the i5 450, so I hope I will still get it.

Maybe I should give them a ring after work...hmmm
