Uh.... My computer does that too? It does it after it posts with the VAIO bios splash right?
I have other older computers (the HP, my Dell might, but it goes through a few screens as it has two partitions on accident) that also do that after they post from Bios check. So I think some computers just do that. My SR has always done that. o-o (I don't know if it's bad or good though.)
Ccut- Mine kinda "sticks" I think. Well, I don't know how to explain it. I have to pull it out with a bit of force, but probably not what you are experiencing with your plug. You could get it looked at if it really does become more of a problem (becomes even more difficult to pull out than it is now, etc.)
(Oh yeah, fun little story- I helped my friend get a Sager M860TU... With a 250gb 7200 RPM [Can't remember which one currently, sorry], 9800M GTS nVidia GPU, 2GB Ram (DDR2-800 I'm sure), XP Pro, P8600 CPU, etc. What is funny is that he doesn't have too much stuff on his Sager and I have a fair amount of nothing on my Sony [But enough to lower it to 117GB of a 224GB HDD], and mine starts up and shuts down faster than his Sager does. Even I'm mystified at that. And I am sure I have a corrupted sector on my HDD that I need to separate too.)

Go in BIOS and have it boot on HDD first rather than CD or external device, my TT does the cursor thing while checking if a boot CD or USB boot device is connected.

I just called sony and the rep told me that the SR490 is due for release on june 26th, so if anyone is getting an SR sony vaio why not wait till the newer model is released -
Doubt that the 490 will be any different then the 390. The only huge difference between the 190 to 290 to 390 was the extra 128mb in the gpu and the hdmi port. For most people neither of those things really matter, so i wouldnt hold your breath for the SR to have a radeon 4xxx series or ddr3 ram.
Point being, if you see a good deal don't hesitate....with that being said sony has fantastic deals right before school starts for everyone... free ms office, usually free ram and harddrive upgrades, plus the whole 300 dollars off a warranty and two accesories bit. I got about 1850 worth of a notebook, warranty, accesories, etc for 1250 during the back to school deals and i already finished college(i purchased mine last august). -
-
They begin usually around July.
Best wait if you are planning to buy and you don't need a laptop ASAP -

Have you checked prices in other online stores? Sonystyle is usually expensive.
SR390 will probably see a price drop when the new model is introduced. -

Hi, everyone. I just noticed a little problem with my 1 week old SR220. It seems that the lower right corner of the touchpad surface is peeling up just a little bit. You can tell because the lower right corner of the touchpad surface is a little higher than the rest of the touchpad surface. It isn't too noticeable -- until you notice it
I can push the corner down, and then it sticks for 1 minute or so and looks fine and is even with the rest of the touchpad surface. Then it will start ever so slightly popping back up again.
Has anyone else seen this problem on their SR? Would it damage the laptop to use a small drop of superglue to make the corner of the touchpad surface stay down? Or should I take it to a Sony Style store to have it looked at. Or is this not a big deal (just a minor imperfection which won't get worse over time), and I should just ignore it
Unfortunately, a simple exchange is out of the question, as I bought this from OfficeMax on clearance, and they are now out of stock. I don't want to return it because then I'd lose the discount that I got on it.
Thanks for your help! -
I think I solved my own problem
The edge of the touchpad surface wasn't actually peeling up. It was being forced up by the rest of the touchpad mechanism underneath. So I pushed the right side of the touchpad down and dragged it to the left (not really, just describing my hand motion). Whatever was sticking up ever so slightly on the right side of the touchpad seems to now be seated correctly, and the lower right corner of the touchpad surface is no longer higher than the rest of the touchpad.
Nice! -

If you're buying a new Sony, don't forget to submit an old dell for trade in. They are worth $450 cash back and you should be able to buy one off craigs list if you don't have one sitting around. Needs to be at least a P4 and decent condition but you should be able to find one for $100 or $150.

Hey guys. First off, thanks a lot for this thread!
I just got my SR in the mail and it is awesome! (Will be much better when I install my copy of Windows 7.
I was going to get the Z series...but the screen is CRAZY small for the res (My 15.4inch nc8430 is 1680X1050 and it seems pretty much as good as you can get with a screen res) plus the SR is so much cheaper for still a superior quality compared to the other models.
I must say the screen is Great! I came from an hp nc8430. So not only does the screen look great....but its great for my legs not to burn when my computer is sitting on them for once! Keep up the good advice.

Hi All, just got my night black SR35 last week, and I am loving it.. My previous laptop was vaio sz 75gn. I could say that the SR is really a improvement over the SZ, in terms of build quality. Though I miss the switchable graphics, however, didn't really much enjoy it, but my son did. I do most of my work, on developing straight forward web apps, so an SR35g works fine w/ me...
-
Btw, w/ wifi on, i am averaging 3.5 hrs, however, I have ordered an extended battery, will be expecting it next week. A 5hr work time will be something that will be GRAND for me.

just an observation, a bit of a design issue, when u close the lid, the rubber between the cam touches the right click button, and as a result, the pop-up menu comes out.

Hey can anyone tell me how the SR with the 4570 performs with games?
-
what the, so it true? the sr has a 4570 now?
-
anyone can tell me where i can find bluetooth's and ricoh's driver sd/mmc for VAIO SR 150?
and why i cant get VAIO MODE SWITCH to work, always fail at inicialization..
thanks in advance guys!
**im using a clean vista ultimate instalation -
-
-
hmm are the drivers in sony support?
for the mode switch part, you just installed the drivers in the wrong order
if you did a clean install then install the drivers in this order.
utilities, utilities update, shared library, firmware extention parson, hdd protection, both memory card drivers, bluetooth, fingerprint scanner driver, audio drive
all the drivers should be on the sony support website -
Has anybody gotten multitouch to work with the SR's touchpad?
-
Can anyone confirm that Vaio SR CTOs have built-in gigabit ethernet?

I am looking for the best gaming notebook and I am stuck between Vaio Z and Vaio SR because I am looking for a 13'' range for gaming(I know they are much weaker than 15-70 inch ones).
The choice is between:
Vaio SR: Core 2 Duo T6400 2,0 GHz and ATI Radeon 4570
Vaio Z: Core 2 Duo P9600 2,6 GHz and Nvidia 9300m GS
The SR has the weaker processor but stronger graphicss card. The Z costs over twice as much as the SR(and that's without Blu-Ray).
I don't know if I should pay twice as much for the Z for the better processor. Is SR bottlenecked by the CPU so the GPU can't be taken advantage of?
And is the Z bottlenecked by the GPU so the CPU can't take full advantage of?
For a gamer I don't know which to go with. They both have 4 Gigs of Ram, moderately big hard drives, and the 4570 has 512 DDR3, but I don't know if it can take advantage of all those 512. I don't know if the 9300m is DDR3.
Advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.
Also, I know they are not gaming notebooks, but they are the only 13' I like. LG P300/P310, XPS Studio 13, Asus Ideapad U330, Asus F6V and many others are not an option, for one reason or another.
Also, I can not configure the specs(not possible in my sonystyle) so I have to buy it with these specifications listed above.
I like to play; shooters, rpgs, mmos, action games, online games.
Not that important; RTS, racing, sports, simulations, party. -

The Z is not designed for gaming. The video card is only really good for blu-ray / dvd playback. Sure it can play some games but you will not be able to use high settings. Go for the SR. The video card is, well, alot better than the Z. Don't worry about the CPU - it is the video card that determines whether a machine can play a particular game properly. -

Don't worry, pretty sure HDMI will be there with ATI -4570 units
-
Oh goodness im wondering if I should sell my z and get the new sr! For some reason I'm still paranoid about the reliability of nvidia graphics cards
-
I'm going to return my Z for the SR. =D
