Hello everyone. Sorry if keep on rambling. I think I am beginning to sound like Andy Roonie.

I do have to say that the speaker on the SR is not as loud as on the Z. But you cant expect much out of a laptop. We dont even have room for most things. I mean if I am at home I would just put it on my 24" LCD monitor and hook up my wireless keyboard and mouse and jack in the audio port to a BOSE speakers and forget about the SR.

The other thing is my new SR is woobley on the bottom right. Now I had to put 20 stack sticky notes to keep it from rumbling.

    Did this happen to you?

Sorry, I thought you all know what I try to stay.

I put like 20 stacks of sticky notes on the bottom right of my laptop to keep it from woobling!

I dont know. I think I am going to keep it. At least there are no dead pixel.

It is from J&R. It is not that thick. It just a little thicker and little heavier than the Z.

Since its Made in China, is that why?

When you get it, you check it out and let us know if yours wobble. Are you going to put in a bigger hard drive and do a clean retail Vista install?

I think you might be missing one of those rubber paws. And yeah, that does look sort of... weird for an SR, although it might be just the perspective.

I am downloading Window 7 now. Big brother MSFT released it to Technet and MSDN subscribers today.

I wonder how much longer before Sony will put the W7 drivers out there.

From what I read, the drivers for Vista and Window 7 are similiar. I am always wrong.

There's a thread on this forum that allows for semi clean install. It shows you where to backup your stuff and make a recovery disk. I would then just wipe out the windows vista and install win 7. However I would download win7 drivers online first. Best of luck!

    :)

it gives you instructions for how to backup and which drivers to save. you don't have to do a semi-clean per their instructions but follow their backup methods and do a clean install with win 7. good luck, hope that helps!

don't know why you would want to install from dvd over usb. But ok, if you want to use the antiquated approach, burn to dvd, wait half an hour, install.

Estimated time on OS...just looked at the battery icon where it estimates the percentage as well as hour and minutes.

I havn't timed it yet, but it seems to go down pretty fast. I will time it by using my clock next time...I'll get the 9 cell battery down the road as this is my road traveler while in school.

Also, for those talkin about the weak speakrs, there is drop down menu where you can change it to live, classical, pop, rock etc. It sort of helps a little and increase some bass.

My other Dell blows these speakers away, and I do like to listen to talkradiolive radio hosts, so that kinda sucks, but the volume is clean and I can hear it decently.

I also agree in how you can put the volume controls up in the mode settings. I know there is a mute, but to change the volume up top would make it real convenient.

Somebody else was asking about it, and I to was interested. My Dell has it and its so convenient and instant w/o having to look for two tiny dark buttons in the dark each time..

Exactly. No backlighting on this keyboard sucks however if I could just use those buttons on top, it would be super helpful. Would prevent any embarrassment if I was playing some pop tunes in public! :D

    Exchange rate (X 1.2) + shipping (+$50) + import taxes (+~$300) + low population rape everything Australia.

I'd say its because we're on the other side of the world where dragons live. Also population wise, we're very small, so the market is much smaller. These two things generally raise the price on these things. Still, what a country to live in :)

The issue of why the things cost so much more, say, here in Europe than in America comes basically (in a REALLY simplistic way) down to that they simply can. The prices are at a point where supply and demand meet. They're at the point where the most people will buy them with the maximum amount of money they can get.

    Basic market economy, really.

I just spoke with a salesperson at Sonystyle in Sweden. When I explained the problem with the models (either you get T6400+R4570 or you get P8800+R3470), she said that I should wait for the new 50-series models comming in the "autumn". She didn't have any specifications on those though.

Does anyone here know anything more about the 50-series?

I really hope they make a performance model in scandinavia, with more color options. I would also like to see gigabit ethernet and an extra usb-port. Backlit keyboard would be nice too :)

I could've sworn I read earlier in this thread that it won't support output to a higher-res screen (won't show it correctly, anyways). Which sounds lame, but could that be the problem?
