Maybe someone will have better luck. I searched the boards as well, found a few mentions of 1080p output on the SR but it was all positive and very brief comments.
I'm interested to know if anyone else has had problems using an external monitor? Or if you've had success, what type of monitor are you using? My boyfriend is a graphic designer and I'm in digital photography classes this fall, so we're looking to purchase a good monitor to output my SR480 to (i'm going with the HDMI option.) Suggestions? Cautionary tips? thx. -
probably just the overscan setting in the ati catalyst manager
-
well just got mine in the mail and it seems like the dvd drive is very loose, looks like im returning it
-
seems like the dvd rom drive is supposed to be a little flimsy, i think i see a dead pixel or 2 also
-
i dont know at this point...is the DVD ROM drive supposed to be like not aligned properly, im gonna take some pics
-
did you order it from sonystyle or a reseller?
-
is that gap supposed to be there? can i fix it myself? or do i have to send it back to J&R?
-
it was just dust not dead pixels, but id love to know if this cd rom issue is normal

Your optical drive looks normal to me.
-
An yes your optical drive is normal, this isn't a slot load. -
i know its not a slot load but is the gap suppposed to be that big...to the point where you pretty much push it up everytime you grasp the laptop?
-
ok i just installed RTM final of windows 7
device manager shows trouble with
base system device
fingerprint sensor
unknown device -
do i use the vista ultimate drivers for the window 7 ultimate rtm?
-
-
unable to get the catalyst software on here
-
LOL
And some of you blame me for making complaints.
Demarco05, with your laptop lid up, can you see if your laptop wiggle at all the 4 corners? Mine takes 20 stack of sticky notes to stool on it so it will not rattle.
My DVD drive is loose too. I try to push it all the way and it and will not.
1 or maybe 2 dead pixel?
You definately got a water mellon, not just a lemon.
Return it. I wonder if you return to JR or to Sony?
My chinese friend in China, you need quality control dude. -
-
as for the dead pixels it was only dust
and the people on here said my optical drive looked normal......so i guess im good to go?
im running win 7 now, just trying to get the latest ati drivers working -
well device manager is showing everything installed correctly....last thing to do is install this 9.7 ATI driver.
can anyone confirm the optical drive is supposed to have a little gap and feel flimsy? the cover? -
where is the gap located?, flimsy like it wiggles?
-
Well, you know Sony will put the drivers for the Window 7 soon right? I mean why would they give us W7 as mail in if they dont do it.
Some of you are in so rush to install W7. What are the main reasons why is so much better than Vista? -
-
It probably should look like this
-
Fonts doesn't sharp look with enough details, do you know how to fix this? Maybe its because I'm sitting too near to the display? -
yeah i guess my optical is broke then........now what the hell do i do
-
You should give a call. And look for possible options. -
The build quality on mine is great. I bought mine from sonystyle. -
I'm having sluggish performance on Vista (Home Premium). Videos (SD) play choppy... What could be the problem? (HDD read write/some resource eating app?)

I just called Sony. They are sending me a 6 pack of rubber feet.
I tell them about quality control. Of course they say Sony make the best computer and they are all properly checked by technician.
You might want to look at another thread here about how to install Window 7. For me I will just wait. -
-
here you go guys a much better angle of my problem
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upVlXxS9ae4
is this normal? either way i have a sony tech coming to the house in 3-5 business days to check it out -
-
However if you push towards the drive it would go inside. That's ok. -
Looks like its deformed. Have tried seeing back of it? Is it flat? i think its not flat -

any other opinions on that youtube video of my optical drive? nobody else has any gap there?
-
-
anyone have the driver for the "mode" settings for the 490 on windows 7 rtm?
EDIT: its the sony notebook utility, but it won't let me install because its only for vista.... ugh
EDIT AGAIN: I GOT EVERYTHING WORKING! WOOT
-
i got all my drivers working too, it doesnt show any conflicts in the device manager, however which software did you use to get al those icons back up on the screen. the sony power software kept giving me battery errors
-
its the sony notebook utilities. you have to extract it or else it'll give you the error "this will only work on windows vista"
-
I think this lemon I got probably doesnt have a even surface. Anyhow Sony is sending me 6 pack of rubber to try each one of them out to level things out.
Its going to be OK I guess.
