Memory Read from ~ 5900 MB/s to ~ 6850 MB/s!!!


It run not hotter than the T6400! I used liquid metal.

 

how much did you pay for the processor? I was interested about changing my processor as well.

Ya, I've looked into the samsung, it looks like a nice machine. I may do that..Does it use the Atom processor though?

 

Yes it uses an Atom N280.

 

dmg3, oh man, seriously, you really did type in fleabay? I aint suppose to use that word, but what I mean is ebay, which everyone knows. I prefer competiton but it seems like there is only one of dam so far.

 

I recently restored my C: drive using Vaio Recovery Center.

But when I try to install Sony Notebook Utility it says "This update is not intended to use with your computer model". "BIOS Update" didn't worked too.

I tried to install Sony Shared Library, which didn't gave me any indication of being successfully completed. This is strange since I already restored my Vaio back to factory condition.

Anyone knows how to fix this? For me it seems Vaio system checker is not able to verify my model.

 

So i Just ordered my Sony SR after contemplation between a Z and SR. I went with the SR for now and if i dont like it plan on returning it in a month and upgrading to the Vaio Z.

Couple of questions. How's the screen on the SR? I read its resolution is 1280 x 800. Expected it to be higher, but overall how is it? Especially when watching 720p content?

Also anyone have any info on CTO returns ? I know Sony online offers 30 days. can't find if CTO models are exempt from this. Thanks

 

The SonyStyle online store's 30 days return policy apply to CTO models as well. Only thing to note is that models with engraving options selected are exempted from this return policy. Good luck.

 

On the subject of battery life, what can I do to maximize the life expectancy of the battery so it can charge to its full capacity.

Is it ok to leave the ac cord plugged in even though the comp. is fully charged? Should I let the battery drain itself out and then recharge it? Thx for the help in advance.

 

So, how much battery life should be possible with the SR430 (wifi on, backlight set to 70%, no gaming, photoshop / browsing)? 3-4 Hours?

 

LOL. How could you get fleabay and ebay confused.. jk. I was looking at the Acer timeline 5810...a 15" which gets 8hrs battery life and is marginally better than the Atom processor. It's also very light and slim at 1".

 

3 at the utter most with 70%.

 

im only gettin 2hrs 35mins with 70% screen.....how do they actually say 5-6 hrs on the website

 

The other thing is undervolt. That will last longer.

I am making an image of my SR now to my USB hd. Then I am going to install W7 and see how it goes.

 

Don't trust Window's estimated battery life thing; it is off.

 

After charging to about 95% battery life, after 6 days of shutdown, my sr490 has 75% left. Is this considered abnormal or is it ok?

Also, what's the normal leak for most laptops?

 

I seen this in my Z. It just keep on leaking.

Whats the norm for the SR? I am curious too.

Another Question: Whats everyones experience with the estimated shipping of their SR or any Vaio for that matter. I just spoke with a representative and my order is ready to ship in cali at the moment. I have the standard shipping.

Estimated arrival is on 8/25 but i dont get how when you select the 5day shipping it takes 9... So how accurate is the estimate? (I only ask because it would be so much better if i got it by the 23rd since i move back to school and would have to go back home to pick it up)

 

I just finish install W7 RTM on my SR430. It works 100%. See the other thread for my experience.

I freak for a moment when it say graphic was 2.0 on the index. It turn out its in the gaming category. I think you need a min. of 3.0 for AERO?

 

Yea you do, when i did the index thing. I got a 3.5 on the graphics. Then i was like wth, this isnt right, so i closed everything that wasnt needed, and redid it. I later got a score of 4.7. So i guess having things in the background effects the score.

 

weird i got a 6.2 for gaming graphics and 5.0 for aero

I guess chong should redo the indexing after closing unnecessary processes, and anything that uses the video card cause a 2.0 is a big drop from 6.2

 

I installed Win7 RTM, and I have only one issue. After resuming from standby, the Fn key brightness controls don't work anymore. I have to go through the control panel to change it.

Does this happen for anyone else?

Everything else works perfectly fine; e.g. volume keys, zoom keys, mode switch, fingerprint scanner, etc

 

I have a strange problem: whenever i press backspace on the find function in a website or chat program, the computer makes a ding noise. But when i press backspace repeatedly (to erase a lot of stuff), the noise gets all scratchy because it's trying to make it several times and i have a weird sound glitch that sounds like a loop (most noticeable in google chrome ctrl F function and chat programs). Does anyone else have this problem and what's the solution?

 

Does the SR having battery-saving modes that lower the CPU/GPU speeds? Sort of like "Eco-mode".

 

Speedstep to lower CPU voltage/frequency in idle mode is a normal part of Core 2 CPUs; ATI GPU has powerplay to enter a more battery-saving mode, and I believe the Intel IGP also has something similar. The GPU setting is adjustable through Windows interface, a part of Sony's utility.

 

Yeah just click on the battery icon=> more power option=> change plan settings and you can adjust a lot of things

Hey VGN-SR owners, how do you access the BIOS during boot-up? I tried F10, F1, all the F's I think. My laptop is VGN-SR430J/B more specifically. Thanks

 

Use F2 to access the BIOS.

I have the same laptop, and it is one of the F keys. It's either F2, F8, or F12, as I press all three of the keys and eventually i do get into the BIOS

Grr hope mine gets here soon so I can install win7 and get going... although i fear i might return it to get the slightly better (imho) Z series. Idk... we'll see when I get it, i'm just worried that the screen on the SR is not gonna live up to my expectations.

 

what are your expectations on the screen? the Z is way overpriced compared to the SR with the deals

 

The SR screen is fine. I actually like it better now that is a little shiny. It is not as glossy as others.

I have to admit that for .3 lb more, you get a nice muscle Z compared to a netbook.

It seem like W7 blinded all my BIOS screen now. I dont get to see it anymore. I will do the F2 also.

 

its also $1300 more then a netbook, id rather ha ve the better video card in the Sr i think

 

Do you have an issue with changing the brightness with Fn+F5/6 after going to standby?

 

have this problem too, probably just bug in the sony util that enables the FN keys

 

i lost 30% of my battery with 60% brightness in the past 30mins, this battery is a disaster

 

its a pretty bad bug heh. i hope they fix it with a proper win7 release

 

I never had my laptop in standby. But I always have it turn off the screen after 5 mins.

 

im running the final windows 7, i doubt its that, probably just the battery

 

It has to do with the circuit board using the battery even with the device off; I don't think the battery is the problem. And, Sony would have to recall every laptop and redesign it.

 

I ordered my SR from J&R last Wednesday, and it still hasn't been shipped. Their website states that the SR I ordered should be shipped within 1 to 2 business days... Is this normal, to wait this long for it to be shipped?

Question for 490& 490CTO users!
When I run Vaio SR BIOS update it says "This update is not intended to use with your computer model" What could be the problem? I restored my VAIO completely and it still exists.

 

Mine took 2 days. I keep calling them. Then they ship.

There is a BIOS update? I didnt see it on the support site.

Did you all notice that the BIOS is skeleton? There is not even an option to turn on your laptop at a certain time.

 

Wow this sucks. My credit card company denied my transaction thinking it was fraud, now my sony order got canceled. My luck it'll take even longer now. Joy!
