how much are you paying for the z27gn?
-
I wouldn't even pay 4.5k for the Z. You gotta draw a bottom line for where a gadget should worth no less than and a ceiling price where a gadget should not worth more than. 3k for the Z is already a stretch for me, 4.5k for the Z will just be plain stupid. Besides, you guys should know Sony give out discount based on purchase price --> if you're buying something over 3k, I think there is additional discount.... as long as you KNOW how to ask for it
-
Standard price. (you gotta get freebies - the price control is pretty strict)
I just got it - am using it to type this
-
Hmm. someone who doesn't have a premium carbon model - could you look underneath your laptop and tell us if you see blue flecks in the carbon? It's actually quite pretty and I'm just curious as to whether it's an /X thing.
-
InfyMcGirk while(!(succeed=try()));
It's plastic rather than carbon I think, but it's pretty, I agree. My model has the same (Z11VN/B).
-
it's carbon reinforced plastic - which (you're right) is plastic.
And.. sweet.
I've never even remotely considered a Sony laptop before this one - but I am liking it!
The screen is really gorgeous. -
um ....whats the standard price as have no idea where you are located...
-
This may appear here, but I missed it if it has....
In speed mode, my desktop icons would all move to the left upon a reboot even if "auto arrange" was not selected.
Apparently, either you MUST have a Windows password OR a second user account must be established to avoid this (I have confirmed).
This does not happen in stamina mode. -
Just got a Z570N for $2,000 (320Gb 3Gb) and am so much preferring it to my SZ!
-
Just in case this helps anyone else, I logged a call on the sony support site after registering and they increased my warranty to three years, so you should be able to get this regardless of which shop you bought the z if you registered within a month of purchase.
(This may only apply to the UK z's though, I quoted the PDF that sector mentioned on the sonystyle web site).
Thanks for the suggestion infy & sector.

I don't believe anyone has posted this Z review yet...
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/11/28/review_laptop_sony_vaio_z11/
They only gave it a 70%.. What's up with the unbelievable poor battery life? -
Hey I just bought a Z590UBB too for $2550 and thought it was a good deal so why not. It should arrive somewhere next week, I just have a quick question.
The double typing and fan problem, is he talking about the vaio Z in general or only the Z590UBB? -
How did you get it for that price?
-
all the z series are made the same; the different letters and numbers are simply different components installed on the same chassis. Some will say the CTO is made in america while pre-config is made in japan, but no matter what, the keyboard is the same throughout the whole line. So, obviously he is talking about (or should be talking about) the whole z series line.
-
Ebay, got it for $2550 and with live cashback another $200 so total is $2350.
It's brand new sealed in box so hopefully no problem.
I know I know, ebay untrustworthy but the guy has sold a couple of z590ubb with +ve feedbacks and I'm covered by paypal so it's okay.
128gb SSD , yay!! -
thats great info mate! Thanks for posting this here! I'll do this same today.
btw. I recieved my Z (Z21WN/B) yesterday
-
Thats a great price for that specs... u lucifer...
-
Wow... great day so far...
Got my paycheck. Then my order from Amazon. Then I got my Vaio Z!!! I'm using it as we speak. Still tinkering with it being its my first laptop. Sony is pretty awesome with the delivery. Only a week since I ordered it and it came in today.
No flaws on the laptop so far. I've just noticed some heat from the left side and that the power plug is wobbly.
Anyways, I'll update you guys later after some more tinkering on it. -
I wonder if maybe the wobbly power plug is intentional. Think of it as a cheap version of Apple's MagSafe feature.
-
I agree. It is wobbly so that when you accidentally hit it, it would not break.
-
Found a nice work around by accident:
Instead of pressing FN-PgUp/Dwn (I hate this), you can also use the Space/Bacspace-Key in some applications.
Works great in Adobe Reader. -
Bought my Sony Vaio Z21 from Sony Style Sweden....and still haven't received it. They wanna cancel my order cause they say I bought it too cheap, does 2500 USD sounds too cheap?
-
Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a Z11WN/B with WWAN and was wondering if anyone know if my Blackberry Bold Vodafone UK unlimited mobile internet would work with the Z series? I've never used WWAN before so not totally sure how it works?
Many thanks for any help! -
ahaha don't make excuses for a defect!!
-
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
Thats not an excuse. Almost all Sony laptops have this 'feature'
-
So are most of the sub-brand laptops..
I guess it's one of those things that you really need to see in person to see if you can tolerate it or not. -
What is your point? If you don't believe it, and don't like it, go buy a mac.
-
how did mac's get brought into this?? someone is getting a little offensive!
-
I apologize.
-
Well, you could say Apple's MagSafe feature is what brought Mac's into this. Then again, there are some people who are annoyed by that feature (cord coming out too easily).
-
I'm considering buying a Z21. It would be great if any of you current owners could tell me the following:
- Is the display matte or glossy?
- What is different with Z21 compared to Z590?
- Did anyone manage to order the extended battery instead of the standard battery? (not having to get both)
Mike -
- display is normall
i mean for me is normal. I had before Dell XPS 1710 with 17 inch 1920x1200 pix and this one looks this same for me. Its not mate or glossy. It's just perfect <3
- i dont know difference between those two models. Give me link to sonystyle and ill check. -
Let's put it this way: if you are sitting with a window behind you, with daylight coming in, do you get reflections in the screen?
Here's a link to a page that is supposed to compare all "Z" models:
http://www.advizia.com/v41/Comparis...S&Models=VGN-Z590UAB|VGN-Z540EBB|VGN-Z570N/B|
As you can see the Z21 is missing. Maybe the Z21 is the same as the Z590, and they are just named differently in different countries? -
Has anyone else notice this?
b2b.sony.com and P1 have taken down their Z6's...
Don't quite know what to make out of this... -
hmm...thats weird...i'm really curious as to what they are gonna do with this refresh as i'm completely ready to order. If they fix some of the small issues with the keyboard (double type and squeeks) i would want to wait it out and then pick it up.
-
do you guys think Sony will update the Z series with the geforce 9400?
-
They've taken them off since Thursday.
IMO, Sony are probably trying to sell as many of the Z500 series as possible, given that they have this fabulous bundle main-in rebate thingy going on... To top things up, the Z620 was listed as $1899.99 (kinda "surprising low" IMO when compared to similar Z500 series config) before it was taken off the Sony B2B site. A simple math calculation shows that getting that Z620 (you can get it for an even lower price through the resellers) & then managing to claim the bundle would have meant that the price of the Z is so low that it is "laughable!" Therefore, at this point, I would think that the Z600 series will be released once that bundle offer ends, so we're probably looking at Jan 1, 2009 as the earliest date for the new releases in the USA. -
Yep, Z11 and the refresh Z21 are listed in Europe. After it depends what model you choose...Z21WN or Z21VN or Z21MN. All that change is the cpu (2.4 ghZ or 2.53 ghZ), the RAM and the storage of the hard drive. Check the sonystyle in your country and you will see all the options available.
-
I have a Z590....never experienced any type of keyboard issue.
Doesnt matter what laptop you consider buying if you goto a forum for it you're going to find users complaining about certain things. YMMV as always. My CTO 590 has been perfect -
I highly doubt it... I'm not very familiar with motherboard architecture, but wouldn't the addition of 9400 requires Sony to partially redesign the Z's motherboard, even if it's just an integrated graphics card?
I don't think there's much of a performance difference between the 9300 and the 9400, so what would be the point of having both?
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Yea, can't wait to see rest of the Z6's pre-configs. -
I was hoping they would release the Z6xx series this month. All of this waiting is starting to get on my nerves.
-
What were the configs of the Z620 for $1899? Was it (Z620) comparable to the Z550 or Z570?
-
FWIW, I have a Z6** equivalent, and I don't have any issues. Kinda new though so.
Also, regarding the 9400 - assuming that it sips power like the x4500 - then having the 9400 integrated would eliminate the need for having a 9300 at all (which could reduce costs) However, i doubt they'll do it anytime soon. Probably for the next model. Backlit keyboard is a far more likely addition.
While there's basically no performance difference, assuming that you really need to use all the ram, 9300 technically has an advantage - because it has 256BM dedicated memory. -
Details are in the following thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=325259 -
Hello, a bit out of topic here but why can't I find those series here in Sony Singapore? all they got are Z26 and Z27, if they're the same, I assume Z27 equals to Z600 series? Thanks..
-
Can you give us a crystal diskmark on your SSD?
-
I got my vaio z590ubb with 128gb ssd yesterday. I'm kinda concern right now because it takes around 1 minute for the comp to completely bootup.
Can anyone with a ssd vaio z tell me their bootup time please??
My macbook pro ssd takes only 30 secs to fully bootup, there must be something wrong with my z ssd -
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
Its probably bloatware. 1 min is still good though as I recall waiting longer on a 320gb 5400rpm
you should probably do clean install + Vista Tweaks and Tricks thread and how many processes do you have running at start up? -
I did, actually first few hours after I got the new vaio I cleaned install with a retail version of windows vista ult, the bootup time went to 30 secons, UNTILLLLLLLL I installed the 9300 nvidia display driver, for w/e reason that thing now makes my vaio bootup >1min, it's sad.... and I need the display driver to have the 1600*900 dis res.
Can you link me to the vista tweaks and tricks thread pls?? and how do I check the processes I have running at start up??, ctrl alt delete?
Does anyone with an vaio z ssd have the same bootup time..
