I applied the pact already but I think this patch solves the problem partially (but still better than before) . The computer can go to sleep & wake up but if auto brightness is ON , then occassionally brightness goes to 100% but doesnt come down. However can be adjusted manually atleast unlike before . In any case , better than before becomes screen doesnt get stuck anymore .

No sound over HDMI on 8.1 here either.

Thanks.
No I think I prefer the sata one primarly because of its compatibility with Linux. I honestly don't know if and how PCIe ssd are supported. Anyway, what I think actually is that there isn't a substantial difference in performance such as between hdd and ssd, so it is likely that I wouldn't even notice it. I think it is an expense that is not worth doing, but I might also be proved wrong
Ah ok, thanks...anyway I think I won't use it because I'd rather have at least 90% battery charge available
-
Good point on the "Auto Brightness". I personally HATE the Auto Brightness function, as the constant adjustments are very distracting to me. Therefore, I have this functionality disabled in both the VAIO Control Center and the Intel Video Settings. When I have some time, I'll switch them on to see if I'm experiencing the same issues you've reported. I do recall experiencing the 100% brightness glitch when Auto was turned on, before I disabled the Auto feature all-together.
I'm certainly sorry if that issue still exists for you. However, I think you would agree that given the choice, you'd rather have the Sleeping/Waking/Brightness Lock issue resolved first, as I believe that affects virtually every user. Hopefully, the Auto Brightness issue will be tackled next. -
I gave up and uninstalled VAIO Care a long time ago. It took Sony over 8 months to address this issue... I find that ridiculous. This will be the last Sony computer I ever buy.geologist likes this.

So, my beautiful Vaio Pro got pinched today from my car when we were fixing a flat tyre. Will miss this beautiful machine
. Adieu folks, keep the forum going !

Sorry to hear that
Hopefully it takes revenge on your behalf and blows up their hands!
Are you going to get another? -
If someone needs extra sheet battery I can sell you brand new one cheaper than Sony. I received 2 sheet batteries and don't need second one

Hi guys,
Windows Update just popped up with another Intel Dualband Wireless N7260 Driver update.
After Installation, it's version 16.5.3.6 and it has slight improvement over previous version 16.5.1.6, but not magical.
For information of all Vaio Pro owners, November issue of Consumer Reports just ranked Sony Vaio Pro 13 as No.1 in 13in Laptop category for the Best of the year products scoring 79 points unseating MacBookAir 13 to 2nd place(74poins).
Dec issue of Consumer Reports also ranked Vaio Pro 13 as No.1 in their recommended Laptops over MacBook air 13, Samsung Ativ book 9, Toshiba Kirabook, MacBook Pro etc.
FYI, Consumer Reports is the largest, most trusted independent product testing organization in the world. They accept no advertising, pay for all the products they test, and, as a not for profit organization, they have no shareholders. -
I cannot find my model on the esupport site (SVP132A1CM) and downloaded another version of this patch.. but when clicking it nothing happens, windows user account asks for permission, which I give and then..nothing. Did you have a similar experience? could you maybe point me to where you got the patch?

There is a newer version available for some time: Station-Drivers - Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software Version 16.6.0.8dkb194 likes this.

I'm interested, but only if it is completely NEW and never used.
Could you tell the price via pm?

Guys, i can't go thru 250 pages, so a quick question:
VAIO Pro 13" or Samsung ATIV 9 Plus ?
And why? -
I bought the ATIV 9 plus and returned it - few issues:
1) The color yellow is not accurately reproduced - drove me crazy, biggest reason why I returned it
2) Font scaling - while better in Win 8.1, it's still not "there"
3) Limited to 4GB ram and 128GB SSD at the time - I think you can get larger now, but it's more expensive than the Pro 13 for a similar config
4) Battery - Pro 13 has the option for a sheet battery - which I have, and love for long trips
5) Keyboard - very shallow on the ATIV - I prefer the Pro 13's keyboard
Many reviews complain about the Pro 13's "build quality" - I actually think the build quality is great. There's no doubt the ATIV build quality feels more robust, but at the end of the day, it was not a huge differentiator. Oh, and the display on the pro 13 is just gorgeous. -
im having the same problem, except the patch was listed on my model's esupport website. other driver exe's are working -

If you have responded to Windows UAC to install the patch, although it appeared to have nothing happened, it did install the patch. I experienced the same thing and thought the installation failed, but when I went ahead to test the Sleep issue numerous times especially Close Lid to sleep, the brightness Fn key n slider are working now as normal after resume from Sleep. -
Hi, wish there was a search option for just this thread, but don't think there is.
Looking to help with some of the heating issues with the laptop. I haven't had much experience with it tbh, it's not mine. I also JUST recently learnt how to undervolt and that helped lower my other laptop by around 10 degrees.
Have any soni vaio pro 13 experts here done anything to modify the temperature? -
hello BJ ..
thank you for the input
i have done most of your recommended fixes .. though i am a bit leary of disabling items in the start up menu. before i do so, i was going to try and disable intel and sony power mgmt options. can you please elaborate on how to do this?
thank you

i have the same model. but when i use the online support, my model number comes up as svp1321dcxs...
i don't know why it is listed as one thing on the bottom of the computer, and something different in the properties folder .. -
I am going to but a new PRO 13 next week, and I would like to know if VMWare workstation works on the pro 13 with virtualization enabled in the bios. I want to run XP and Linux on those VM's.
Remco -
Correct model number should be the one from Vaio Care or you open up the Extended Battery Pack Connector Cover and look under Product Name.
-
I tested it several times but the problem is still there (black screen after wake up from sleep)... I also found my model on the support site (vaio care gives a different number than is actually printed on the laptop) but the patch is not listed (yet?) on the support site, so maybe the patch doesn't work on my model?
-
The patch is for fix of Brightness Fn key not functioning after Resume from sleep and not for the black screen issue. If you check back around 10-15 pages before here where someone managed to fix the black screen issue by downloading a new Display driver from intel site.

I decided to restore my Pro13 to factory settings @W8 (as originally came), updated all drivers using Vaio Care and then installed Windows 8.1... lastly, a new driver update.
All the issues went away after doing this.
If you have time.... do it

Yes - run this myself using VM WS 10 on 8.1 without any issues
-
I'd recommend doing a clean install straight to 8.1. It's cleaner and easily done. I recently did that and have no issues.

Hi guys, wondering if anyone else is having the same Bluetooth issues?
I've got a 13 Pro, I'm on 16.1.5.2 intel drivers for Wifi and on 3.1.306.346 driver for the BT.
I was on a previous version, but since I was using BT more and more (mouse), i was finding it was disconnecting every so often, so i downloaded the 3.1.306.346 driver from the AU support website (mine's an AU model) Support for SVP13218PG : VAIO® Pro 11/13 : VAIO Laptops & Computers : Sony Australia
For installation, i REMOVED the previous driver, rebooted, and then installed the new driver. But still it disconnects after a while (more stable than before, but still not cool). When it disconnects, I have to power off BT (sometimes thats not possible too - error) and then re switch it on.
anyone have this cracked yet?
thanks! -
I assume you are on Windows 8. To minimize Bluetooth disconnection, go to Device Manager> Universal Serial Bus Controller> Generic USB Hub>Properties>“Power Management” tab and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.
Although this driver version 3.1.306.346 has improved Bluetooth stability, it may cause system crashes or bluescreen. If you do come across that, uninstall this driver including software under Device Manager, then "Scan for hardware changes" to let Windows install a Microsoft generic Bluetooth driver which is more stable.
If you are on Windows 8.1, version 3.1.1307.362 from Sony eSupport has no issues at all. -
How do you factory reset? Whenever I click on the option I get the message some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery media will provide these files.
-
Wow thank you, it is finally solved, I thought I already installed that one (and the file was actually already in my downloads folder (huh?)).
-
Guys, i read that someone here successfully replaced the stock wireless adapter for the newer AC version.
Do you think such an upgrade possible on the PRO 11 ? -
Guys, I have a problem and Sony support is unable to help.
I have SVP1321CE5 version and there is a driver update listed for this model - SATA Driver (Intel) - 12.8.0.1016. Vaio Update prompts me to install it and I can find this driver on support pages for my laptop and other SVP versions as well. But I cannot install it, there comes an error about "not for this platform".
I found more detailed description of this driver update on asian support site, including this:
"To check if installation is successful:
1. Go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\iaStorA.sys
2. Version should indicate 12.8.0.1016"
But there is no iaStorA.sys file on my system, there are only iaStorAV.sys and iaStorV.sys.
My SVP1321C5E has 256GB PCiE Samsung SSD if that matters.
Any ideas what's going on? -
THanks, yes, i'm on W8. I have unchecked that box, thanks for the suggestions, I'll report back. -
Are there any problems returning non standard configuration of Vaio bought online in Sony Store? Or the configuration does not matter and I always got 30 days to return it?
-
Don't want to break the bank! going for the cheaper MBA 2013
.
-
It's a super-small (550K) patch file, not a full app update install. I experienced the same quick activity when I initiated the patch, but it was applied.
-
How did you do? I have read other places that people are having problems to install and activate windows 8.1 with a 8.0 key. A link to a guide would be nice
-
Not sure of the legality of posting links but I downloaded an untouched MSDN image of 8.1. These images have both the Core and Pro versions on them, the version that installs is based off of the ei.cfg file or the key that you enter. There are keys that you can use to just install the OS. Then after it's installed you activate using the key that is on your laptop. You get that key by using Jelly Bean Keyfinder BEFORE you wipe out your computer. When I installed 8.1 from that MSDN image I wiped out all partitions (even recovery partitions) to get as much space as possible on the C drive.kimh likes this.

Thanks ggab, I will give it a try.
-
If I'll create recovery usb media, will I be able to restore unit to factory settings even if I completly wipe the SSD?
-
so I'm about to purchase a vaio pro 13. however I don't require it until JAN 30th 2014. would the price be dramatically cheaper then? even $100 would be a bit of a savings.
also do you recommend getting the extra battery pack straight away for those that need it (from the site when purchasing your vaio pro 13) or is it cheaper elsewhere separately?
also, what's the power efficiency difference between getting an i3/i5 and i7?
it'll need to play 1080p/full bluray movies.
thanks -

SSD Review has 2 articles regarding SSD performance with Sony Vaio pro 13
here is the link to the newest of the 2 reviews,i believe this will shed some light on/answer your concerns...
Sony VAIO Pro 13 Ultrabook M.2 Native PCIe SSD Review - 1GB/s Performance Fastest Ultra Speed To Date | The SSD Review -
I know this review and that's exactly why I ordered customized SVP version with faster PCIe SSD. Does it really mean that the SATA driver update is only for SATA SSD systems, not for VAIOs with PCIe SSD? That was my first thought, but Sony consultant couldn't confirm that...
-
I downloaded 8.1 by following this guide:
Windows 8.1 Tip: Download a Windows 8.1 ISO with a Windows 8 Product Key | Windows 8 content from Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows
I used a Pro key from this site:
Appendix A: KMS Client Setup Keys
Installtion went fine, but I am getting an error message when trying to change the key to my own key for activation.... I guess it is because the key used for installation is for Pro, and my key is for the normal version. Anybody know how to get around that? -
I have exactly the same problem. Does this mean I have the M.2 PCie version and therefore can't do the SATA driver update? If that's true then why does SW update have this as a recommended update?
-
Hi guys, just wanted to report a horrible experience with sony. I ordered a custom vaio pro on september 18. Would you believe that sony has not said anything about my laptop until I contacted them 5 days ago. They then told me my order has been cancelled because the model I ordered has been discontinued. So this has basically been almost two months. I only ordered from sony because I wanted the matte version of the vaio pro and I am truly shocked at this level of customer service. The real disaster here is that I still want the vaio pro as I have not found another laptop which appeals to me. Should I ask them for a rebate/upgrade to 8gb RAM or something over this? If so what argument can I use to do so?
-
You can't use a Pro key to install. That installs the Pro version and you don't have a key to activate the Pro version. You have a Core key from this laptop. You will need to format and reinstall to get to the Core version.
When you said you used a Pro key from that site, did you use that key to download the ISO? I didn't think our Vaio keys would allow the download, that's why I didn't go that route.kimh likes this. -
I guess I messed this up by downloading the iso from MS using the key from another PC running Pro. Anyway, I just succeeded the install by using a MSDN iso and a standard 8.1 core key, which I afterwards changed to my own key
Now, next step is the Vaio software. Any recommendations how to install this without messing things up again? Is it best to manually install Vaio Update and let that install the rest. Or should I download all the Vaio drivers from the support page for my model? -
Hi guys, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I am now getting frequent "USB device not recognized" errors. In Device Manager it says that the (Device Descriptor Request Failed) on the unrecognized device. It has happened on multiple devices now (all USB storage keys). It's bizarre though as some devices work on one of the USB ports but not the other :S
Has anyone else encountered this? Any ideas?
